Wood-fiber phenol-formaldehyde-resin (PFR) modified surfaces, obtained from the adsorption of a PFR/water solution, are investigated as a function of the nature and the amount of PFR adsorbed. Surface are measurements are performed by using krypton adsorption at 77 K. Chemical modification is monitored by the electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) technique and the surface energy by the inverse phase gas chromatography (IPGC) method at infinite dilution. The London dispersive componentγ S L of the surface energy shows a relationship to the concentration of carbon and oxgen at the fiber surface.γ S L increases from 27.5 mN·m−1 for the untreated fiber to 42.5 mN·m−1 for the fibers treated with 20% high molecular-weight-grade phenol-formaldehyde. The surface atomic ratio O/C determined using the ESCA technique exhibits a decrease from 44% for untreated to 31% for treated samples. Surface area also decreases from 2.09 m2/g to 1.50 m2/g. The PFR adsorbed by wood fibers is observed as the dispersive component of surface energy starts to increase, as the surface oxygen concentration decreases, and on the surface area of the wood fiber.  相似文献

Wetting force at three-phase line was measured by the Wilhelmy technique using fibrous solids/liquid/liquid systems. Advancing and receding contact angles were calculated from the wetting forces during fiber immersion and emersion. The obtained results showed that contact angle hysteresis was due to the heterogeneity of the fiber surfaces. The dispersive and polar components of surface free energies of the fibers were determined from the advancing and receding contact angles, respectively. The Hamaker constants of the fibers were estimated from the dispersive components of their surface free energies.  相似文献

The conductance of the solution of calcium, strontium and barium butyrates in methanol has been measured at 35–50 °C (± 0.05 °C) in order to determine the CMC, dissociation constant, molecular conductance at infinite dilution, and thermodynamic parameters viz. enthalpy, free energy, entropy changes for both dissociation and association processes. The results show that these soaps behave as a weak electrolyte in methanol and Debye-Huckel-Onsager's equation is not applicable to the solutions of these soaps.  相似文献

Radiation-induced polymerization of monomers, for example N-methacryl-oxysuccinimide (MASu) and diethylene glycol dimethacrylate (2G), in ethyl propionate, was performed from +25°C to –78°C. The copoly (MASu/2G) microspheres were obtained in MASu monomer compositions of 30 wt % or below. The average particle diameter of copoly(MASu/2G, 20/80 wt %) microspheres obtained at irradiation temperatures of 25°, 0°, and –43 °C were 0.81±0.29, 0.63±0.26, and 0.90±0.43 m, respectively. No microspheres were formed when irradiated at –78 °C. The reactivity of the succinimide groups on the surface of copoly(MASu/2G, 20/80 wt%) microspheres was checked by reacting with ethylene diamine. The maximal amount of reacting succinimide groups was 9.4±0.5 nol/g, which corresponds to about 1 % of the total number of succinimide groups in the microsphere.  相似文献

The dispersive component s d of the surface free energy of glass fibers and its interaction energy with alkanes, benzene, 1-nitropropane, ethyleneglycol, glycerol, formamide, and water were quantitatively determined by the tensiometric method within two liquids. The values of nondispersive interaction energy I SL p were found to be a linear function of the square root of the nondispersive component of the surface free energy of liquids. This suggests that the nondispersive interaction energy may be represented by the geometric mean of the nondispersive component of the surface free energy of a solid and a liquid. The slope gave the nondispersive component s p of the surface free energy. The s p values are 33 and 14 mJ/m2 for the untreated and aminosilane-treated fibers, respectively, suggesting that organophilic character has developed on the surface after aminosilane treatment. The s p value was almost similar after the treatment, probably because of the polar characteristics of amino groups.  相似文献

Surface tension experiments were performed on severaln-alkyldimethylaminopropanesulfonate aqueous solutions at 15°, 25°, and 35°C. The critical micellar concentrations have been obtained and the surface properties calculated. The enthalpic and entropic contributions to either micellization and adsorption processes have been discussed. Cross-linking of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene was performed with electron-beam irradiation in the range of radiation dose from 12 to 96 Mrad under nitrogen. Dry gel films and melt films were used as specimens. Two kinds of cross-linked specimens could be kept at 200°C for a prolonged time in an undeformed state and this tendency was independent of radiation dose. The elongation of the gel films hampered the heat-resistant effect and the drawn specimens were broken at temperatures lower than 175 °C. The elongation of the melt films could not be realized, because of a marked fixation of chains in the fiber network, even at a dose of 12 Mrad.  相似文献

Three series of segmented polyurethanes based on MDI, variable chain extender, and polypropylene oxide of MW=1000, 2000, and 3000 were synthesized and their dielectric behavior examined.Dielectric relaxations in the segmented polyurethanes were investigated between –150°C and +150°C in the 100 Hz to 10 kHz range. In general, three transitions, designated as, , and were observed, and ascribed in accordance with calorimetric relaxations to glass transitions of the hard and soft segments, and Shatzki-type motions, respectively. The effect of structure variables such as soft segment size, type of chain extender (ethylene glycol, butane diol, and hexane diol) and soft segment concentration, as well as the effect of interaction of the phases on dielectric properties was discussed. It was found that a certain degree of phase mixing exists in all series, detected by the variation of theT g of the soft segment with soft segment concentration, contrary to DSC results, which was ascribed to thermal treatment prior to the dielectric measurements. It appears that interfacial polarization becomes important only above the transition temperature.  相似文献

Solution casted films of segmented polyurethanes based on poly (ethylene adipate) glycol, 4,4diphenylmethanediisocyanate, and 1,4 butanediol were studied by thermal-mechanical methods including differential scanning calorimetry and mechanical hysteresis. Data demonstrate that, following thermal treatment at 70 °C for 15 min, these polymers show time-dependent thermal and mechanical properties. In fact, because 70 °C is a temperature greater than the melting point of soft segments (about 42 °C), the soft-segment crystals are melted and their crystallization is time dependent. The results are explained in terms of phase separation. In particular, the sample with better phase separation has a faster and larger recovery.  相似文献

Uniform spherical silver particles were produced by decomposing the bis(1,2-ethanediamine)silver(I) complex, by aging a solution of 1.0×10–3 mole dm–3 in silver (I) nitrate, 1.0 mole dm–3 in 1,2-ethanediamine, and 2.5×10–1 mole dm–3 in nitric acid (basic solution) at 100°C for 42 min. The average modal diameter was estimated to be 0.52 m with a relative standard deviation of 0.10. A moderately oxygenrich layer, 40 Å thick, on the surface of the particles was detected by means of photoelectron surface microanalysis (XPS). The silver particles grew through a polynuclear-layer mechanism, as judged from the concentration change in soluble silver(I) species in the supernatant solution. The particles' point of zero charge (PZC) was estimated at pH 6.5 by potentiometric titration.  相似文献

The mechanical behavior of keratin is studied, focusing on the mechanism of failure. For this purpose, a new procedure has been suggested to differentiate the time-dependent and time-independent losses of energy at different strain levels. Two kinds of anionic polymer emulsions, of which particle sizes were greatly different, were blended and then cast on a release-paper at 30 °C. One was poly(butyl acrylate) emulsion, 0.46n in diameter, produced by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization, and the other was ethyl acrylate-methyl methacrylate (1/1, mole ratio) copolymer emulsion, 0.02m in diameter, produced by emulsifier-containing emulsion polymerization. The film produced had asymmetric surface properties: the air-side surface was nontacky and the bottom-side surface was tacky. The forming mechanism is discussed.  相似文献

Usingn-hexadecyl acrylate, surface pressure-area (F-A) curves and equilibrium spreading pressuresF e were measured at various temperatures (5.7°–46°C) by the Langmuir balance (F-A) and the Wilhelmy-plate method (F e). At low temperatures (T<13 °C) condensed films and the liquid-condensed/solid condensed transition can be observed. At high temperatures (T>30 °C) liquid-expanded films occur. In the intermediate range the compression curves have two transition points. The transition pressureF 1 between liquid-expanded and condensed film has a marked temperature dependence. The transition enthalpiesH 1 decrease with increasing temperature and become zero at 29.2 °C. The second transition is related to a transition between the condensed films (F 2). The slight temperature dependence of this transition is accompanied by an increasing change of area as well as by increasing transition enthalpiesH 2.TheF e-T curve has two distinct breaks, at the melting pointT m and atT=30 °C. The break atT m is due to the melting process and the break atT=30 °C is caused by a phase transition between a liquid-expanded film and a condensed film.The phase diagram was constructed from the transition pressures. It can be demonstrated that the highest pressures of the thermodynamic stable film occurs atT m. At temperaturesT>T m equilibrium spreading pressure and equilibrium collapse pressure are identical whereas atT m supercompression of the monolayer occurs. The film in this state behaves like a supercooled liquid. Obviously, rupture and collapse of such a film lead to a thermodynamically metastable bulk phase.  相似文献

Tensile tests were performed at low temperatures, both in liquid and gaseous nitrogen and also at room temperature, using a series of polypropylene (PP) samples with various technological parameters. Crystalline morphology was also measured for film samples. The results show that liquid nitrogen or solvents can induce materials to create hard elasticity, which strongly supports the bulk-microfibril composite structure proposed by Baer et al., and suggests that the nature of hard elasticity is essentially a craze phenomenon. Three conditions of forming hard elastic structure are discussed. The results from long-time relaxation of hard elastic polypropylene (HEPP) and the improvement of necking of the PP samples in ethanol and water suggest that elastic recovery is reduced by internal friction. The relation between morphology and elasticity is also discussed. The methods of estimating the contribution of surface energy in the recovery process and the increase of surface energy of HEPP during the stretching process are provided. The contribution of surface energy to recovery is about 43% to 66% in the first cycle and after relaxation for 1 h at a maximum of 50% strain. The increased surface energy during stretching is about twice the recovery work done by surface energy.  相似文献

Surface free energy of various carbon fibers was determined by tensiometric method in three different procedures. The dispersive s d and the nondispersive s p components were separately determined by contact angle measurements in two-phase system, formamide-n-alkanes. The s p increased by oxidation and decreased by hydrogen reduction, while the s d remained almost constant.The s p value determined from contact angle of water/ethyleneglycol solution tended to become higher. The critical surface free energy was in harmony with the total free energy determined from formamide-n-alkanes system as long as liquids were properly selected. The formation of oxygen-containing functional groups was evidenced by ESCA, and the surface [O]/[C] ratio was related linearly to the surface polarity defined by s p [ s d + s p ] Oxidation in liquid phase resulted in the formation of both hydroxyls and carboxyls, while only hydroxyls were formed in gas phase. The interfacial shear strength of the fiber-epoxy resin could be closely correlated with thermodynamical work of adhesion calculated on the basis of surface free energy and its component.  相似文献

The variation of amorphous orientation and crystalline regularity of hard elastic polypropylene (HEPP) films during cyclic deformation and stress relaxation processes were studied using a FTIR spectrometer. The result proves entropic elasticity and shows the orientational hysteresis in the amorphous region or within the microfibrils, and also shows that the amorphous orientation increases, but that the crystalline regularity decreases with the increase of extension rate.Three spin-spin relaxation timesT 2f,T 2m, andT 2s and associated mass fractionsF f,F m, andF s of HEPP fibers were measured with a solid echo of NMR method at different elongations and after relaxation or recovery for a long time A new possible interpretation was proposed that, while the microfibrils are formed in HEPP, the medium decay component should be ascribed to inner molecules of the microfibrils, and the slow decay component to the surface molecules of the microfibrils. According to this interpretation, the results implied that subfibrillation is the main process when HEPP is stretched up to 15% strain, and that at above 15% strain thinning and lengthening of the microfibrils become the main process. Thickening of the microfibrils was found in the recovery and relaxation processes.  相似文献

Small-angle x-ray scattering experiments were performed on concentrated dispersions in benzene, of silica particles coated with octadecyl-chains. Such dispersions are known to exhibit short-ranged attractive particle-interactions which depend on the temperature. At sufficiently low temperature, the attraction gives rise to a reversible phase-separation. In the present study, use was made of this phenomenon to fractionate the system. By analyzing two different fractions, the role of polydispersity in the attractive behavior was investigated.For both original and fractionated material, scattering curves were measured using a Kratky-camera equipped with a stepscanning setup and monitor-detector. The concentrations investigated were 0.033, 0.363, 0.496, and 0.628 g/ml, at temperatures ranging from 25° to 52°C.  相似文献

The enthalpy of solution of phenoxy 2-ethanol, 1 phenoxy,-3 propanol and benzylalcohol was determined at 25 °C in aqueous sodium dodecylsulfate and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide solution, up to 0.2 mol/kg surfactant concentration. Using the pseudo-phase model, the standard enthalpy of transfer and the partition coefficient of the alcohols between micelle and water are calculated. The latter quantity is found to be systematically larger when derived from enthalpy than from free energy measurements. Using the so-called compensation plot, the solution thermodynamics of aromatic and aliphatic alcohols in aqueous sodium dodecylsulfate and in the octane+water systems are compared. Aromatic alcohols display an anomalous behavior in the octane+ water system but not in the micellar one.The standard enthalpy of solution of various alcohols presents, when plotted against hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide concentration, a shoulder in the region around 0.05 mol/kg; a discussion is presented on the evidence for alleged micellar structural changes in aqueous micellar systems.  相似文献

Wettability of electrolytically oxidized graphite fibers has been investigated by contact angle measurements employing the Wilhelmy method. The atomic ratio of oxygen to carbon, O/C, in the surface layer of the graphite fiber increased with increasing electric specific charge. Contact angle hysteresis was not observed for the untreated graphite fiber (O/C=0.01). The contact angles decreased with increasing O/C, especially for the receding angle, and approached constant for O/C>0.2. The nondispersive and dispersive surface free energies of the oxidized graphite fibers were calculated from the experimentally determined contact angles. The nondispersive surface free energy increased by the oxidation, whereas the dispersive one decreased. From the results of surface analysis, it was found that the changes in the nondispersive and dispersive surface free energies were caused by the increase in O/C ratio and the decrease in surface crystallinity, respectively.  相似文献

The specific surface area of a muscovite sample increases drastically after exposure to a LiNO3 solution, e.g., from 3.4 m2/g, corresponding to platelets of ca. 200 silicate layers, to 295 m2/g (platelets of ca. 2–3 silicate layers) after treatment at 180°C under atmospheric pressure for 46 h. The efficiency of the cleavage process decreases with decreasing temperature (down to 50°C). The LiNO3/H2O weight ratio is also very important: at 130°C and a reaction time of 46 h, for instance, a value in the range of 1.7–1.8 leads to the highest specific surfaces. The cleaved products have the form of strong papers that disperse readily in water. During the cleaving procedure, not only the particle thickness, but also the diameter decreases. There is no evidence of damage or partial dissolution of the silicate structure after cleavage, by IR spectroscopy and yield. The use of LiCl also leads to an increase in specific surface area, but the effect is weaker than in the case of LiNO3. Treatment with some other alkaline and alkaline earth nitrates and chlorides did not increase the specific surface area of muscovite significantly.  相似文献
