Let G(n, k) denote the graph of the Johnson Scheme J(n, k), i.e., the graph whose vertices are all k-subsets of a fixed n-set, with two vertices adjacent if and only if their intersection is of size k ? 1. It is known that G(n, k) is a distance regular graph with diameter k. Much work has been devoted to the question of whether a distance regular graph with the parameters of G(n, k) must isomorphic to G(n, k). In this paper, this question is settled affirmatively for n ≥ 20. In fact the result is proved with weaker conditions.  相似文献

The graphs of the Johnson schemes G(3k, k) and G(3k + 1, k) are characterized by their parameters. In particular this finishes the characterization of the tetrahedral graphs G(n, 3).  相似文献

Let Gn,m be the family of graphs with n vertices and m edges, when n and m are previously given. It is well-known that there is a subset of Gn,m constituted by graphs G such that the vertex connectivity, the edge connectivity, and the minimum degree are all equal. In this paper, S(ab)-classes of connected (ab)-linear graphs with n vertices and m edges are described, where m is given as a function of a,bN/2. Some of them have extremal graphs for which the equalities above are extended to algebraic connectivity. These graphs are Laplacian integral although they are not threshold graphs. However, we do build threshold graphs in S(ab).  相似文献

T. A. Dowling (J. Combin. Theory6 (1969), 251–263) proved the uniqueness of the graphs G(n, k) of the Johnson schemes for n > 2k(k ? 1) + 4. We improve this result by showing the uniqueness of G(n, k) for n > 4k.  相似文献

We classify gradings by arbitrary abelian groups on the classical simple Lie superalgebras P(n), n2, and on the simple associative superalgebras M(m,n), m,n1, over an algebraically closed field: fine gradings up to equivalence and G-gradings, for a fixed group G, up to isomorphism. As a corollary, we also classify up to isomorphism the G-gradings on the classical Lie superalgebra A(m,n) that are induced from G-gradings on M(m+1,n+1). In the case of Lie superalgebras, the characteristic is assumed to be 0.  相似文献

Distance-regular graphs which have the same parameters as the Hamming scheme H(n, q) are classified. If q ≠ 4, H(n, q) is the only such graph. If q = 4, there are precisely [n2] (isomorphism classes of) such graphs other than H(n, q).  相似文献

After the change of variables Δi = γi ? δi and xi,i + 1 = δi ? δi + 1 we show that the invariant polynomials μG(n)q(, Δi, ; , xi,i+1,) characterizing U(n) tensor operators 〈p, q,…, q, 0,…, 0〉 become an integral linear combination of Schur functions Sλ(γ ? δ) in the symbol γ ? δ, where γ ? δ denotes the difference of the two sets of variables {γ1 ,…, γn} and {δ1 ,…, δn}. We obtain a similar result for the yet more general bisymmetric polynomials mμG(n)q(γ1 ,…, γn; δ1 ,…, δm). Making use of properties of skew Schur functions Sλρ and Sλ(γ ? δ) we put together an umbral calculus for mμG(n)q(γ; δ). That is, working entirely with polynomials, we uniquely determine mμG(n)q(γ; δ) from mμG(n)q ? 1(γ; δ) and combinatorial rules involving Ferrers diagrams (i.e., partitions), provided that n ≥ (μ + 1)q. (This restriction does not interfere with writing the general case of mμG(n)q(γ; δ) as a linear combination of Sλ(γ ? δ).) As an application we deduce “conjugation” symmetry for nμG(n)q(γ; δ) from “transposition” symmetry by showing that these two symmetries are equivalent.  相似文献

The pair of groups, complex reflection group G(r,1,n) and symmetric group Sn, is a Gelfand pair. Its zonal spherical functions are expressed in terms of multivariate hypergeometric functions called (n+1,m+1)-hypergeometric functions. Since the zonal spherical functions have orthogonality, they form discrete orthogonal polynomials. Also shown is a relation between monomial symmetric functions and the (n+1,m+1)-hypergeometric functions.  相似文献

Suppose G is a locally compact noncompact group. For abelian such G's, it is shown in this paper that L1(G), C(G), and L(G) always have discontinuous translation-invariant linear forms(TILF's) while C0(G) and Lp(G) for 1 < p < ∞ have such forms if and only if GH is a torsion group for some open σ-compact subgroup H of G. For σ-compact amenable G's, all the above spaces have discontinuous left TILF's.  相似文献

Let G be a compact group. If the trivial representation of G is not weakly contained in the left regular representation of G on L02(G) and X is either Lp(G) for 1<p?∞ or C(G), then we show that every complete norm |·| on X that makes translations from (X,|·|) into itself continuous is equivalent to ||·||p or ||·|| respectively. If 1<p?∞ and every left invariant linear functional on Lp(G) is a constant multiple of the Haar integral, then we show that every complete norm |·| on Lp(G) that makes translations from (Lp(G),|·|) into itself continuous and that makes the map t?Lt from G into bounded is equivalent to ||·||p.  相似文献

The complete graph Kn, is said to have a G-decomposition if it is the union of edge disjoint subgraphs each isomorphic to G. The set of values of n for which Kn has a G-decomposition is determined if G has four vertices or less.  相似文献

We investigate congruence classes of m-tuples of points in the quaternionic elliptic space ?P n . We establish a canonical bijection between the set of congruence classes of m-tuples of points in ?P n and the set of equivalence classes of positive semidefinite Hermitian m×m matrices of rank at most n+1 with the 1's on the diagonal. We show that with each m-tuple of points in ?P n is associated a tuple of points on the real unit sphere S 2. Then we get that the congruence class of an m-tuple of points in ?P n is determined by the congruence classes of all its triangles and by the direct congruence class of the associated tuple on the sphere S 2 provided that no pair of points of the m-tuple has distance π/2. Finally we carry out the same kind of investigation for the quaternionic hyperbolic space ?H n . Most of the results are completely analogous, although there are also some interesting differences.  相似文献

G is a locally compact group that contains the semidirect product J of a closed normal subgroup H and a closed connected subgroup K. Conditions on J are given that imply that the restriction map Bp(G) → Bp(H) (1 < p < ∞; G amenable if p ≠ 2) of the Fourier-Stieltjes algebras is not surjective. It is also shown that if the restriction map B(J) → B(H) is surjective, J need not be a direct product, even if H is nilpotent.  相似文献

For a nondiscrete σ-compact locally compact Hausdorff group G, L(G) is a commutative Banach algebra under pointwise multiplication which has many nonzero proper closed invariant ideals; there is at least a continuum of maximal invariant ideals {Nα} such that Nα1 + Nα2 = L(G) whenever α1α2. It follows from the construction of these ideals that when G is also amenable as a discrete group, then LIM?TLIM contains at least a continuum of mutually singular elements each of which is singular to any element of TLIM. The supports of left-invariant means are in the maximal ideal space of L(G); the structure of these supports leads to the notion of stationary and transitive maximal ideals. To prove that both these types of maximal ideals are dense among all maximal ideals, one shows that the intersection of all nonzero closed invariant ideals is zero. This is the case even though the intersection of any sequence of closed invariant ideals is not zero and the intersection of all the maximal invariant ideals is not zero.  相似文献

Let R and S be two vectors whose components are m and n non-negative integers, respectively. Let A(R, S) be the class consisting of all (0, 1)-matrices of size m by n with row sum vector R and column sum vector S. In this paper we derive a lower bound to the cardinality of the class A(R, S), which can be computed readily.  相似文献

We prove that Holman's hypergeometric series well-poised in SU(n) satisfy a general difference equation. We make use of the “path sum” function developed by Biedenharn and this equation to show that a special class of these series, multiplied by simple products, may be regarded as a U(n) generalization of Biedenharn and Louck's G(Δ; X) functions for U(3). The fact that these generalized G-functions are polynomials follows from a detailed study of their symmetries and zeros. As a further application of our general difference equations, we give an elementary proof of Holman's U(n) generalization of the 5F4(1) summation theorem.  相似文献

Let S be a finite solvable group, and suppose S acts on the finite group N, and they have coprime orders. Then, the celebrated Glauberman correspondence provides a natural bijection from the set IrrS(N) of irreducible characters of N which are invariant under the action of S to the set Irr(CN(S)) of all irreducible characters of the centralizer of S in N. Suppose, further, that the semidirect product SN is a normal subgroup of a finite group G. Let θ∈IrrS(N), and let ψ∈Irr(CN(S)) be its Glauberman correspondent. We prove that there is a bijection with good compatibility properties from the set Irr(G,θ) of the irreducible characters of G above θ to Irr(NG(S),ψ) such that, in the case when S is a p-group for some prime p, it preserves fields of values and Schur indices over Qp, the field of p-adic numbers. Using this result, we also prove a strengthening of the McKay Conjecture for all p-solvable groups.  相似文献

We establish the existence of universal G-spaces for proper actions of locally compact groups on Tychonoff spaces. A typical result sounds as follows: for each infinite cardinal number τ every locally compact, non-compact, σ-compact group G of weight w(G)?τ, can act properly on Rτ?{0} such that Rτ?{0} contains a G-homeomorphic copy of every Tychonoff proper G-space of weight ?τ. The metric cones Cone(G/H) with HG a compact subgroup such that G/H is a manifold, are the main building blocks in our approach. As a byproduct we prove that the cardinality of the set of all conjugacy classes of such subgroups HG does not exceed the weight of G.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear dispersive K(m,n) equation with the generalized evolution term and derive analytical expressions for some conserved quantities. By using a solitary wave ansatz in the form of sechp function, we obtain exact bright soliton solutions for (2 + 1)-dimensional and (3 + 1)-dimensional K(m,n) equations with the generalized evolution terms. The results are then generalized to multi-dimensional K(m,n) equations in the presence of the generalized evolution term. An extended form of the K(m,n) equation with perturbation term is investigated. Exact bright soliton solution for the proposed K(m,n) equation having higher-order nonlinear term is determined. The physical parameters in the soliton solutions are obtained as function of the dependent model coefficients.  相似文献

A Hilbert bundle (p, B, X) is a type of fibre space p:BX such that each fibre p?1(x) is a Hilbert space. However, p?1(x) may vary in dimension as x varies in X. We generalize the classical homotopy classification theory of vector bundles to a “homotopy” classification of certain Hilbert bundles. An (m, n)-bundle over the pair (X, A) is a Hilbert bundle (p, B, X) such that the dimension of p?1(x) is m for x in A and n otherwise. The main result here is that if A is a compact set lying in the “edge” of the metric space X (e.g. if X is a topological manifold and A is a compact subset of the boundary of X), then the problem of classifying (m, n)-bundles over (X, A) reduces to a problem in the classical theory of vector bundles. In particular, we show there is a one-to-one correspondence between the members of the orbit set, [A, Gm(Cn)]/[X, U(n)] ¦ A, and the isomorphism classes of (m, n)-bundles over (X, A) which are trivial over X, A.  相似文献
