The paper is devoted to some flow shop scheduling problems, where job processing times are defined by functions dependent on their positions in the schedule. An example is constructed to show that the classical Johnson's rule is not the optimal solution for two different models of the two-machine flow shop scheduling to minimize makespan. In order to solve the makespan minimization problem in the two-machine flow shop scheduling, we suggest Johnson's rule as a heuristic algorithm, for which the worst-case bound is calculated. We find polynomial time solutions to some special cases of the considered problems for the following optimization criteria: the weighted sum of completion times and maximum lateness. Some furthermore extensions of the problems are also shown.  相似文献

In this paper problems of time-dependent scheduling on dedicated machines are considered. The processing time of each job is described by a function which is dependent on the starting time of the job. The objective is to minimise the maximum completion time (makespan). We prove that under linear deterioration the two-machine flow shop problem is strongly NP-hard and the two-machine open shop problem is ordinarily NP-hard. We show that for the three-machine flow shop and simple linear deterioration there does not exist a polynomial-time approximation algorithm with the worst case ratio bounded by a constant, unless P=NP. We also prove that the three-machine open shop problem with simple linear deterioration is ordinarily NP-hard, even if the jobs have got equal deterioration rates on the third machine.  相似文献

The problem tackled in this paper deals with products of a finite number of triangular matrices in Max-Plus algebra, and more precisely with an optimization problem related to the product order. We propose a polynomial time optimization algorithm for 2×2 matrices products. We show that the problem under consideration generalizes numerous scheduling problems, like single machine problems or two-machine flow shop problems. Then, we show that for 3×3 matrices, the problem is NP-hard and we propose a branch-and-bound algorithm, lower bounds and upper bounds to solve it. We show that an important number of results in the literature can be obtained by solving the presented problem, which is a generalization of single machine problems, two- and three-machine flow shop scheduling problems. The branch-and-bound algorithm is tested in the general case and for a particular case and some computational experiments are presented and discussed.  相似文献

We consider the problem of introducing flexibility in the schedule determination phase, for shop scheduling problems with release dates and deadlines. The flexibility is provided by generating a family of schedules, instead of a unique one. We represent a family of schedules by an ordered group assignment defining for each machine a sequence of groups where the operations within a group are totally permutable. We propose a polynomial time algorithm to evaluate the worst case completion time of operations in an ordered group assignment. We then consider the single machine problem with heads and deadlines associated to operations, as a sub-problem of the job shop problem. We propose polynomial time dynamic programming algorithms for minimizing the number of groups and for maximizing the number of characterized sequences, under specific constraints. Finally, computational experiences on job shop benchmarks, show the impact of grouping operations on the solution makespan value.  相似文献

We consider a generalization of the classical open shop and flow shop scheduling problems where the jobs are located at the vertices of an undirected graph and the machines, initially located at the same vertex, have to travel along the graph to process the jobs. The objective is to minimize the makespan. In the tour-version the makespan means the time by which each machine has processed all jobs and returned to the initial location. While in the path-version the makespan represents the maximum completion time of the jobs. We present improved approximation algorithms for various cases of the open shop problem on a general graph, and the tour-version of the two-machine flow shop problem on a tree. Also, we prove that both versions of the latter problem are NP-hard, which answers an open question posed in the literature.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with two-machine no-wait flow shop scheduling problems in which the actual processing time of each job is a proportional function of its starting time and each machine may have non-availability intervals. The objective is to minimize the makespan. We assume that the non-availability intervals are imposed on only one machine. Moreover, the number of non-availability intervals, the start time and end time of each interval are known in advance. We show that the problem with a single non-availability interval is NP-hard in the ordinary sense and the problem with an arbitrary number of non-availability intervals is NP-hard in the strong sense.  相似文献

In this paper we consider coupled-task single-machine and two-machine flow shop scheduling problems with exact delays, unit processing times, and the makespan as an objective function. The main results of the paper are fast 7/4- and 3/2-approximation algorithms for solving the single- and two-machine problems, respectively.  相似文献

In most manufacturing and distribution systems, semi-finished jobs are transferred from one processing facility to another by transporters such as Automated Guided Vehicles, robots and conveyors, and finished jobs are delivered to warehouses or customers by vehicles such as trucks. This paper investigates two-machine flow shop scheduling problems taking transportation into account. The finished jobs are transferred from the processing facility and delivered to customers by truck. Both transportation capacity and transportation times are explicitly taken into account in these models. We study the class of flow shop problems by analysing their complexity. For the makespan objective function, we prove that this problem is strongly NP-hard when the capacity of a truck is limited to two or three parts with an unlimited buffer at the output of the each machine. This problem with additional constraints, such as blocking, is also proven to be strongly NP-hard.  相似文献

In 1954, Johnson gave an efficient algorithm for minimizing makespan in a two-machine flow shop; there is no advantage to preemption in this case. McNaughton's wrap-around rule of 1959 finds a shortest preemptive schedule on identical parallel machines in linear time. A similarly efficient algorithm is unlikely to exist for the simplest common generalization of these problems. We show that preemptive scheduling in a two-stage flow shop with at least two identical parallel machines in one of the stages so as to minimize makespan is NP-hard in the strong sense.  相似文献

In this note, we consider a class of problems for scheduling a set of jobs each of which consists of two consecutive operations. The jobs are to be processed in a two-machine flowshop in which either or both machines are versatile. A versatile machine can perform both operations of a job. The objective is to minimise the makespan. While the whole class of problems has been shown to be NP-complete, we provide a general pseudopolynomial dynamic programming scheme which solves the problems analytically. This also establishes that the problems are only NP-complete in the ordinary sense. The solution scheme can be modified to solve another class of similar two-machine flowshop scheduling problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we deal with the two-machine flow shop scheduling problem having an unavailability interval on the first machine, and nonresumable jobs. We first present an enhancement procedure that, once applied to any arbitrary solution, produces a schedule that is at most equal 2 times the optimal makespan. We then develop an improved heuristic, with a relative worst-case error of 3/2.  相似文献

We study the problem of minimizing total completion time in two-machine job shop with unit-time operations. We propose an efficient algorithm for the problem. The algorithm is polynomial with respect to a succinct encoding of the problem instances, where the number of bits necessary to encode a job with k operations is O(log(k + 1)). This result answers a long standing open question about the complexity of the problem.

In this paper we address the problem of minimizing makespan and sum of completion times simultaneously in a two-machine flow shop environment. We formulate the problem as a bicriteria scheduling problem, and develop a branch-and-bound procedure that iteratively solves restricted single objective scheduling problems until the set of efficient solutions is completely enumerated. We report computational results, and explore certain properties of the set of efficient solutions. We then discuss their implications for the Decision Maker.  相似文献

This paper addresses a generalization of the coupled-operations scheduling problem in the context of a flow shop environment. We consider the two-machine scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing the makespan. Each job consists of a coupled-operation to be processed first on the first machine and a single operation to be then processed on the second machine. A coupled-operation contains two operations separated by an exact time delay. The single operation can start on the second machine only when the coupled-operation on the first machine is completed. We prove the NP-completeness of two restricted versions of the general problem, whereas we also exhibit several other well solvable cases.

Lot streaming in the two-machine flow shop with setup times   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The lot streaming model can sometimes be analyzed as a variation of the basic flow shop model. In this paper, we consider the lot streaming model with setup times, transfer lots of size one, and makespan objective. We show how to harness existing theory for time lags and setup times in the two-machine flow shop to analyze the lot streaming case. Extensions to more than two machines are also discussed.  相似文献

We consider the problem of minimizing the maximum lateness in a m-machine flow shop subject to release dates. The objective of this paper is to develop a new branch-and-bound algorithm to solve exactly this strongly NP-hard problem. The proposed branch-and-bound algorithm encompasses several features including a procedure for adjusting heads and tails, heuristics, and a lower bounding procedure, which is based on the exact solution of the two-machine flow shop problem with time lags, ready times, and delivery times. Extensive computational experiments show that instances with up to 6000 operations can be solved exactly in a moderate CPU time.  相似文献

The paper surveys the complexity results for job shop, flow shop, open shop and mixed shop scheduling problems when the number n of jobs is fixed while the number r of operations per job is not restricted. In such cases, the asymptotical complexity of scheduling algorithms depends on the number m of machines for a flow shop and an open shop problem, and on the numbers m and r for a job shop problem. It is shown that almost all shop-scheduling problems with two jobs can be solved in polynomial time for any regular criterion, while those with three jobs are NP-hard. The only exceptions are the two-job, m-machine mixed shop problem without operation preemptions (which is NP-hard for any non-trivial regular criterion) and the n-job, m-machine open shop problem with allowed operation preemptions (which is polynomially solvable for minimizing makespan).  相似文献
