We present experimental results for Taylor-Couette flow subjected to a Coriolis force. We used an apparatus consisting of two concentric cylinders with the inner one rotating, and with a radius ratio near 0.75. It was mounted with its axis horizontal on a table which rotated with angular velocity about a vertical axis. For sufficiently low, the first bifurcation upon increasing the inner-cylinder rotation rate was to tilted vortices. With further increase in this bifurcation was followed by a secondary one to time-periodic tilted vortices. The two bifurcation lines met at higher. The initial bifurcation then became one to tilted traveling vortices. For even larger values of, the flow immediately above the initial transition was disordered, and for sufficiently large the initial bifurcation was to a featureless turbulent state. We studied these transitions with three different outer cylinders. Two had symmetric spatial ramps terminating both ends of a straight section to reduce the effect of the rigid, nonrotating ends, and one had no ramps. An expression is derived for the anomalous part (T, ) of the soft-mode damping function due to third-order interaction between critical optical phonons and acoustic phonons. It is shown that in crystals with a large elastic viscosity the damping function of critical phonons can have stronger temperature anomalies near phase-transition points. After quenching from 700C and aging, Cu-Sn alloys containing Ni and Al were found to have a precipitation of-solid solution, with a DO3 type of ordering, of metastable ,, and phases. It was established that the phase has an 4 type of ordering while the phase has the Cu3Ti type. Within the framework of the conditions ; » –1 ( –1 is the mean time of momentum relaxation), the coefficient of absorption () of a weak electromagnetic wave by the free carriers of a polar semiconductor is calculated in the presence of a strong wave (of frequency ), for arbitrary values of and . Photon absorption by band electrons is due to these latter interacting with optical phonons (of frequency o). The problem is solved by using an analogous approach to the theory of the linear Kubo reaction. The results are valid in the absence of electron heating, when a strong wave only influences the scattering probability. The appearance of a photostimulated tail of absorption is predicted for < o, including the jump () for ( – o + ) 0T as well as peaks in the function () at the points s=s (s=1, 2, 3,...). A study is made of instability at frequencies close to the electron cyclotron frequency B and its multiples, subject to the presence of two different groups of electrons. It is shown that a mixture of hot and cold electrons ( ph 2 pc 2 ) in the region of frequencies s B, s2 can be unstable with respect to waves of the flute type (k z=0) with maximum increment max ( ph/pc). B, if there exists an interval of transversal velocities in whichF/ >0. When the curvature of the magnetic field is taken into account, even waves with B can be unstable in such a plasma. The effect of spatial inhomogeneity of the hot component on flute-type instability and on two-beam cyclotron instability is also examined.The author extends his thanks to A. B. We study group extensions , where acts on a C*-algebraA. Given a twisted covariant representation ,V of the pairA, we construct 3-cocycles on with values in the centre of the group generated byV(). These 3-cocycles are obstructions to the existence of an extension of byV() which acts onA compatibly with . The main theorems of the paper introduce a subsidiary invariant which classifies actions of onV() and in terms of which a necessary and sufficient condition for the the cohomology class of the 3-cocycle to be non-trivial may be formulated. Examples are provided which show how non-trivial 3-cocycles may be realised. The framework we choose to exhibit these essentially mathematical results is influenced by anomalous gauge field theories. We show how to interpret our results in that setting in two ways, one motivated by an algebraic approach to constrained dynamics and the other by the descent equation approach to constructing cocycles on gauge groups. In order to make comparisons with the usual approach to cohomology in gauge theory we conclude with a Lie algebra version of the invariant and the 3-cocycle.  相似文献

Evolution characters of angular velocity H of a Kerr black hole (BH) and distribution characters of angular velocity p of accreting particles near the BH horizon are investigated in the case of thin and thick disks, respectively. It is shown that H evolves in a non-monotonous way in the case of thin-disk-pure-accretion, attaining a maximum at a * 0.994. This evolution character turns out to depend on the radial gradient of p near the BH horizon. It is proved that both quantities, ( dH /dt) ms and ( p /r)r=r H, vanish at the same value of a *: a *0.994, and an explanation for the non-monotonousness of H is provided.  相似文献

A high-frequency sum-rule expansion is derived for the transverse elements of the relativistic classical plasma dielectric tensor in an isotropic system. The relativistic results are different from the nonrelativistic ones by a factor of –1(1 – 2/3c 2) for 2 (k) and longitudinal plasmon and transverse photon frequencies, and by –2(1–2 2/3c 2) for 2 (k).  相似文献

The stability of the three-dimensional multiple-charged soliton solutions to the nonlinear field equations is studied by Lyapunov's method. It is proved that an absolutely stable soliton solution can not exist in any field model. By imposing the subsidiary condition pQi=0 (fixation of charges) we find a sufficient condition for stability of the stationary soliton which includes the inequality k i (Q i / k <0. Starting axiomatically with a system of finite degrees of freedom whose logic c is an atomic Boolean -algebra, we prove the existence of phase space c, as a separable metric space, and a natural (weak) topology on the set of statesI (all the probability measures on c) such that c, the subspace of pure statesP, the set of atoms of c and the spaceP( c) of all the atomic measures on c, are all homeomorphic. The purpose of this paper is to review and to extend, wherever possible, the Kramers-Kronig relations, sum rules, and symmetry properties for the electrodynamic transport tensors of a linear plasma medium. For complete generality, we consider both nonrelativistic and relativistic plasmas with and without external magnetic fields. Our study is carried out first within the framework of classical electrodynamics. We then exploit the statistical-mechanical fluctuation-dissipation theorem to further obtain the Onsager symmetry relations and Kubo sum-rule frequency moments. A time-harmonic electromagnetic plane wave obliquely incident on a half-space or a slab consisting of a so-called medium is considered. The up- and down-going eigenmodes in the medium are derived and used to calculate the reflection and transmission coefficients for TE and TM modes. The Brewster angles for an half-space are computed. We investigate the possible shapes of the surface of a rigidly rotating perfect fluid on which is matched the Kerr metric, using the Boyer (1965) surface condition. The solution, given in Figures 1 to 5, depends on three parameters, = qK, q = a/m, - (a/gwc), wherem denotes the mass of the source, a its angular momentum per unit mass, the angular velocity of rotation, andK is an integration constant appearing in Boyer's surface condition. When < 1, as in Figures 1 to 3, there are, for givenq and, two possible surfaces, of which the smaller one touches the ring-singularity at = a, z = 0. When > 1, as in Figures 4 and 5, there is only one possible surface of kidney-shaped tori, which also touch the ring singularity. In the case of a differentially rotating perfect fluid, we find a variety of possible strictly spheroidal surfaces, depending on the choice of an arbitrary integration function() of the angular velocity . If we choose() so that, at each point on the surface, is single-valued, then the resulting distribution exhibits an equatorial acceleration, similar to what is observed on the surface of the sun. This angular velocity distribution turns out to be identical with Thorne's (1971) angular velocity of cumulative dragging.  相似文献

The possibility to obtain information on n scattering at intermediate energies from the reaction dnp is analyzed. To this aim, the differential cross sectiond 3 /d ,d n dE n and the scattering asymmetry with linearly polarized photons are calculated at photon energies 100 to 400 MeV in the diagrammatic approach. The pole diagrams of the impulse approximation are evaluated with realistic n and p scattering amplitudes. One-loop diagrams withnp rescattering in the final state and with meson-exchange and isobar currents are taken into account as well. The main contribution to the differential cross sectiond 3 /d ,d n dE n in the kinematics of quasi-free n scattering arises from the neutron pole diagram. The correction due to other diagrams is typically –30% to –10% and decreases with increasing photon energy and momentum transfer. The sensitivity of the cross sections to the magnitude of the neutron electric polarizability and to the sign of the 02 decay constant is demonstrated.  相似文献

The2H(d, )4He differential cross section was measured at deuteron laboratory energies of 20, 24, and 28 MeV between cm=45° and cm=135°. We present an algorithm for numerically computing an absolutely continuous invariant measure associated with a piecewiseC 2 expanding mappingS: on a bounded region R N. The method is based on the Galerkin projection principle for solving an operator equation in a Banach space.
