Normal stresses play a key role in polymer processing, yet accurate measurements are still challenging. Simultaneous rheo-optical measurements are conducted on a poly(vinyl methyl ether) homopolymer melt over a wide range of temperatures and oscillatory shear frequencies, in an effort to measure the normal stresses, by using quantitative flow birefringence measurements. The stress optical rule holds well for this polymer as expected, with the value of the stress optic coefficient of (6.38±0.19)×10−11 cm2/dyn at 30°C. The first and third normal stress difference coefficients, calculated using a single memory constitutive equation applied to the stress and birefringence data, are in excellent agreement. The ratio of the measured third and first normal stress difference coefficients, (1−β)=0.71±0.05, agrees well with the result of the Doi–Edwards model with independent alignment approximation (β=0.28). The measurement of normal stress difference coefficients with such small deviations proves the robust nature of the improved rheo-optical instrument and its ability to measure complete stress tensor.  相似文献

The effects of extensional flow orientation on the rheological properties of two poly(styrene)-poly(ethylene-co-butylene)-poly (styrene) (PS-PEB-PS) triblock copolymers containing either spherical or cylindrical PS microdomains were studied by oscillatory shear and oscillatory extensional experiments. Extensional measurements revealed that below the PS block glass transition temperature pre-oriented triblocks display highly anisotropic mechanical properties. For both polymers, the storage modulus E ′ is higher along the flow direction. Above the PS glass transition temperature the materials are no longer anisotropic and the same storage moduli are obtained along the flow direction and perpendicular to it. Above the PS glass transition temperature the rheological behaviour parallel and perpendicular to the flow direction was also probed in pre-oriented and non-oriented samples by oscillatory shear rheometry. At high frequencies, the mechanical response of the triblocks was found to be independent of the orientation for both copolymers while at low frequencies a strong effect of the flow orientation could be observed. For both polymers the value of the storage modulus was found to be lower along the flow direction that perpendicular to it. This was explained by the ability of PS blocks to relax more easily along the flow direction. Received: 10 September 1999/Accepted: 1 October 1999  相似文献

In this work, we studied the melt rheology of multigraft copolymers with a styrene–acrylonitrile maleic anhydride (SANMA) terpolymer backbone and randomly grafted polyamide 6 (PA 6) chains. The multi-grafted chains were formed by interfacial reactions between the maleic anhydride groups of SANMA and the amino end groups of PA 6 during melt blending. Because of the phase separation of SANMA and PA 6, the grafted SANMA backbones formed nearly circular domains which were embedded in the PA 6 melt with a diameter in the order of 20 to 40 nm. The linear viscoelastic behaviour of PA 6/SANMA blends at a sufficiently large SANMA concentration displayed the characteristics of the critical gel state, i.e. the power relations G′ ∝ G′′ ∝ ω 0.5. In elongation, the PA 6/SANMA blend at the critical gel state showed a non-linear strain hardening behaviour already at a very small Hencky strain. In contrast to neat PA 6, the elasticity of the PA 6/SANMA blends was strongly pronounced, which was demonstrated by recovery experiments. Rheotens tests agreed with the linear viscoelastic shear oscillations and the measurements using the elongational rheometer RME. Increasing the SANMA concentration led to a larger melt strength and a reduced drawability. The occurrence of the critical gel state can be interpreted by the cooperative motion of molecules which develops between the grafted PA 6 chains of neighbouring micelle-like SANMA domains.  相似文献

An experimental investigation was carried out to study the enhancement of the heat transfer from a heated flat plate fitted with rectangular blocks of 1 × 2 × 2 cm3 dimensions in a channel flow as a function of Reynolds number (Reh), spacing (S y ) of blocks in the flow direction, and the block orientation angle (α) with respect to the main flow direction. The experiments were performed in a channel of 18 cm width and 10 cm height, with air as the working fluid. For fixed S x =3.81 cm, which is the space between the blocks in transverse to the flow direction, the experimental ranges of the parameters were S y =3.33–4.33 cm, α=0–45°, Reh=7625–31550 based on the hydraulic diameter and the average velocity at the beginning of the test section in the channel. Correlations for Nusselt number were developed, and the ratios of heat transfer with blocks to those with no blocks were given. The results indicated that the heat transfer could be enhanced or reduced depending on the spacing between blocks, and the block orientation angle. The maximum heat transfer rate was obtained at the orientation angle of 45°. Received on 13 December 2000 / Published online: 29 November 2001  相似文献

The stress dependencies of the steady-state viscosity η and, particularly, that of the steady-state elastic compliance J e of various linear isotactic polypropylenes (PP) and one long-chain branched PP are investigated using creep-recovery tests. The creep stresses applied range from 2 to 10,000 Pa. In order to discuss the stress-dependent viscosity η and elastic compliance J e with respect to the influence of the weight average molar mass M w and the polydispersity factor M w/M n the PP are characterized by SEC–MALLS. For the linear PP, linear steady-state elastic compliances Je0J_{\rm e}^0 in the range of 10 − 5–10 − 3 Pa − 1 are obtained depending on the molar mass distribution. Je0J_{\rm e}^0 of the LCB-PP is distinctly higher and comes to lie at around 10 − 2 Pa − 1. Je0J_{\rm e}^0 is found to be independent of M w but strongly dependent on polydispersity. η and J e decrease with increasing stress. For the linear PP, J e as a function of the stress τ is temperature independent. The higher M w/M n the stronger is the shear thinning of η and the more pronounced is the stress dependence of J e. For the LCB-PP, the strongest stress dependence of η and J e is observed. Furthermore, for all PP J e reacts more sensitively to an increasing stress than η. A qualitative explanation for the stronger stress dependence of J e compared to η is given by analyzing the contribution of long relaxation times to the viscosity and elasticity.  相似文献

Understanding the radiation embrittlement of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels is required to be able to operate safely a nuclear power plant or to extend its lifetime. The mechanical properties degradation is partly due to the clustering of solute under irradiation. To gain knowledge about the clustering process, a Fe−1.1 Mn−0.7 Ni (at.%) alloy was irradiated in a test reactor at two fluxes of 0.15 and 9 ×1017 n E > 1MeV .m − 2.s − 1 and at increasing doses from 0.18 to 1.3 ×1024 n E > 1MeV .m − 2 at 300°C. Atom probe tomography (APT) experiments revealed that the irradiation promotes the formation in the α iron matrix of Mn/Mn and/or Ni/Ni pair correlations at low dose and Mn–Ni enriched clusters at high dose. These clusters dissolve partially after a thermal treatment at 400°C. Based on a comparison with thermodynamic calculations, we show that the solute clustering under irradiation can just result from an induced mechanism.  相似文献

Damped inertial water flow in a cylindrical vessel is investigated. A return effect or "recoil" as the shear strain rate falks to a value of the order of 10−3s−1 is observed. Over the range of low strain rates the water behaves like a medium with very low shear strength and a shear modulus of the order of 10−6 Pa. Ekaterinburg. In this work, we are concerned with the regularities of the solutions to the Boltzmann equation with physical collision kernels for the full range of intermolecular repulsive potentials, r −(p−1) with p > 2. We give new and constructive upper and lower bounds for the collision operator in terms of standard weighted fractional Sobolev norms. As an application, we get the global entropy dissipation estimate which is a little stronger than that described by Alexandre et al. (Arch Rational Mech Anal 152(4):327–355, 2000). As another application, we prove the smoothing effects for the strong solutions constructed by Desvillettes and Mouhot (Arch Rational Mech Anal 193(2):227–253, 2009) of the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation with “true” hard potential and “true” moderately soft potential.  相似文献

Let u(ε) be a rescaled 3-dimensional displacement field solution of the linear elastic model for a free prismatic rod Ωε having cross section with diameter of order ε, and let u (0) –Bernoulli–Navier displacement – and u (2) be the two first terms derived from the asymptotic method. We analyze the residue r(ε) = u(ε) − (u (0) + ε2 u (2)) and if the cross section is star-shaped, we prove such residue presents a Saint-Venant"s phenomenon near the ends of the rod. The compressible Navier–Stokes–Poisson (NSP) system is considered in ${\mathbb {R}^3}The compressible Navier–Stokes–Poisson (NSP) system is considered in \mathbb R3{\mathbb {R}^3} in the present paper, and the influences of the electric field of the internal electrostatic potential force governed by the self-consistent Poisson equation on the qualitative behaviors of solutions is analyzed. It is observed that the rotating effect of electric field affects the dispersion of fluids and reduces the time decay rate of solutions. Indeed, we show that the density of the NSP system converges to its equilibrium state at the same L 2-rate (1+t)-\frac 34{(1+t)^{-\frac {3}{4}}} or L -rate (1 + t)−3/2 respectively as the compressible Navier–Stokes system, but the momentum of the NSP system decays at the L 2-rate (1+t)-\frac 14{(1+t)^{-\frac {1}{4}}} or L -rate (1 + t)−1 respectively, which is slower than the L 2-rate (1+t)-\frac 34{(1+t)^{-\frac {3}{4}}} or L -rate (1 + t)−3/2 for compressible Navier–Stokes system [Duan et al., in Math Models Methods Appl Sci 17:737–758, 2007; Liu and Wang, in Comm Math Phys 196:145–173, 1998; Matsumura and Nishida, in J Math Kyoto Univ 20:67–104, 1980] and the L -rate (1 + t)p with p ? (1, 3/2){p \in (1, 3/2)} for irrotational Euler–Poisson system [Guo, in Comm Math Phys 195:249–265, 1998]. These convergence rates are shown to be optimal for the compressible NSP system.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental and theoretical investigation of drying of moist slab, cylinder and spherical products to study dimensionless moisture content distributions and their comparisons. Experimental study includes the measurement of the moisture content distributions of slab and cylindrical carrot, slab and cylindrical pumpkin and spherical blueberry during drying at various temperatures (e.g., 30, 40, 50 and 60°C) at specific constant velocity (U = 1 m/s) and the relative humidity φ = 30%. In theoretical analysis, two moisture transfer models are used to determine drying process parameters (e.g., drying coefficient and lag factor) and moisture transfer parameters (e.g., moisture diffusivity and moisture transfer coefficient), and to calculate the dimensionless moisture content distributions. The calculated results are then compared with the experimental moisture data. A considerably high agreement is obtained between the calculations and experimental measurements for the cases considered. The effective diffusivity values were evaluated between 0.741 × 10−5 and 5.981 × 10−5 m2/h for slab products, 0.818 × 10−5 and 6.287 × 10−5 m2/h for cylindrical products and 1.213 × 10−7 and 7.589 × 10−7 m2/h spherical products using the Model-I and 0.316 × 10−5–5.072 × 10−5 m2/h for slab products, 0.580 × 10−5–9.587 × 10−5 m2/h for cylindrical products and 1.408 × 10−7–13.913 × 10−7 m2/h spherical products using the Model-II.  相似文献

Natural convection in a partially filled porous square cavity is numerically investigated using SIMPLEC method. The Brinkman-Forchheimer extended model was used to govern the flow in the porous medium region. At the porous-fluid interface, the flow boundary condition imposed is a shear stress jump, which includes both the viscous and inertial effects, together with a continuity of normal stress. The thermal boundary condition is continuity of temperature and heat flux. The results are presented with flow configurations and isotherms, local and average Nusselt number along the cold wall for different Darcy numbers from 10−1 to 10−6, porosity values from 0.2 to 0.8, Rayleigh numbers from 103 to 107, and the ratio of porous layer thickness to cavity height from 0 to 0.50. The flow pattern inside the cavity is affected with these parameters and hence the local and global heat transfer. A modified Darcy–Rayleigh number is proposed for the heat convection intensity in porous/fluid filled domains. When its value is less than unit, global heat transfer keeps unchanged. The interfacial stress jump coefficients β 1 and β 2 were varied from  −1 to +1, and their effects on the local and average Nusselt numbers, velocity and temperature profiles in the mid-width of the cavity are investigated.  相似文献

The flow and heat transfer in an inclined and horizontal rectangular duct with a heated plate longitudinally mounted in the middle of cross section was experimentally investigated. The heated plate and rectangular duct were both made of highly conductive materials, and the heated plate was subjected to a uniform heat flux. The heat transfer processes through the test section were under various operating conditions: Pr ≈ 0.7, inclination angle ϕ = −60° to +60°, Reynolds number Re = 334–1,911, Grashof number Gr = 5.26 × 102–5.78 × 106. The experimental results showed that the average Nusselt number in the entrance region was 1.6–2 times as large as that in the fully developed region. The average Nusselt numbers and pressure drops increased with the Reynolds number. The average Nusselt numbers and pressure drops decreased with an increase in the inclination angle from −60° to +60° when the Reynolds number was less than 1,500. But when the Reynolds number increased to over about 1,800, the heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops were independent of inclination angles.  相似文献

We prove a blow-up criterion in terms of the upper bound of (ρ, ρ −1, θ) for a strong solution to three dimensional compressible viscous heat-conductive flows. The main ingredient of the proof is an a priori estimate for a quantity independently introduced in Haspot (Regularity of weak solutions of the compressible isentropic Navier–Stokes equation, arXiv:1001.1581, 2010) and Sun et al. (J Math Pure Appl 95:36–47, 2011), whose divergence can be viewed as the effective viscous flux.  相似文献

Natural convection flow in a differentially heated square enclosure filled with porous matrix with a solid adiabatic thin fin attached at the hot left wall is studied numerically. The Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended Darcy model is used to solve the momentum equations, in the porous medium. The numerical investigation is done through streamlines, isotherms, and heat transfer rates. A parametric study is carried out using the following parameters: Darcy number (Da) from 10−4 to 10−2, dimensionless thin fin lengths (L p) 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7, dimensionless positions (S p) 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 with Prandtl numbers (Pr) 0.7 and 100 for Ra = 106. For Da = 10−3 and Pr = 0.7, it is observed that there is a counter clock-wise secondary flow formation around the tip of the fin for S p = 0.5 for all lengths of L p. Moreover when Da = 10−2 the secondary circulation behavior has been observed for S p = 0.25 and 0.75 and there is another circulation between the top wall and the fin that is separated from the primary circulation. However, these secondary circulations features are not observed for Pr = 100. It is also found that the average Nusselt number decreases as the length of the fin increases for all locations. However, the rate of decrease of average Nusselt number becomes slower as the location of fin moves from the bottom wall to the top wall. The overall heat transfer rate can be controlled with a suitable selection of the fin location and length.  相似文献

Experiments are described in which a constant force F squeezed a fluid, either between two parallel circular plates, or between a plate and convex spherical lens. Newtonian fluids obeyed the relation of Stefan (1874) for plates, and the relation of Adams et al. (1994) for plate and lens. The non-Newtonian yield stress fluids Brylcreem, Laponite and Sephadex were squeezed between plates of various diameter D to attain a stationary separation h. Only for separations greater than h * (which depended on the fluid) did Brylcreem and Laponite obey the relation F/D 3 ∝ h −1 of Scott (1931) and give a yield stress in agreement with the vane method. For Sephadex the dependence of F/D 3 on h disagreed with Scott's relation, but varied as h −5/2 for h > 0.6 mm and h −3/2 for h < 0.6 mm. On rotating one plate in its plane the yield stress fluids at a fixed F suffered a marked decrease of h. This, and the existence of h *, are discussed in terms of the soft glassy material model of Sollich et al. (1997) and Sollich (1998). Brylcreem and Laponite were squeezed between a plate and lenses of various curvature and their yield stress obtained using the relation of Adams et al. (1994) was compared with measurements by plate-plate squeeze-flow and vane methods. Received: 12 April 2000 Accepted: 26 October 2000  相似文献

The laminar-turbulent transition is experimentally studied in boundary-layer flows on cones with a rectangular axisymmetric step in the base part of the cone and without the step. The experiments are performed in an A-1 two-step piston-driven gas-dynamic facility with adiabatic compression of the working gas with Mach numbers at the nozzle exit M = 12–14 and pressures in the settling chamber P0 = 60–600 MPa. These values of parameters allow obtaining Reynolds numbers per meter near the cone surface equal to Re 1e = (53–200) · 106 m −1. The transition occurs at Reynolds numbers Re tr = (2.3–5.7) · 106. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 48, No. 3, pp. 76–83, May–June, 2007.  相似文献

Various soft solid suspensions were squeezed at constant force between polished and roughened circular glass plates and the time-dependence of the interplate separation was measured. The filterability of suspensions was quantified by their desorptivity S obtained from measurements of capillary suction time. The squeeze flow (SF) of suspensions for which S < 2 μm s−1/2 was largely consistent with rheological theory, which neglected radial filtration: the relative motion between the liquid and solid phases of the suspension in the radial pressure gradient. Suspensions having S > 2 μm s−1/2 showed SF behavior that was consistent with the presence of radial filtration.  相似文献
