The equilibrium stability of a fluid, heated from below, in a rectangular cavity with a vertical permeable partition is investigated. The small perturbation problem is solved by the Galerkin-Kantorovich method. The relations obtained for the dependence of the critical Rayleigh numbers on the partition parameters and the cavity dimensions make it possible to identify regions in which either even or odd perturbations, sensitive to only the normal or only the tangential resistance of the partition, respectively, are responsible for equilibrium crisis. The effect of a permeable partition on the convective instability of a horizontal layer of fluid under various heating conditions was considered in [1–3], where a significant dependence of the critical Rayleigh numbers on the properties of the partition was established.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 6–10, May–June, 1989.  相似文献

We give the results of a theoretical investigation of the hydrostatic stability of a plane horizontal layer of weakly conducting liquid for different constant temperatures and potentials on the thermally and electrically conducting capacitor plates bounding the layer. We found that the onset of electrothermal convection is of an oscillatory nature. The critical conditions for loss of stability were found.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 6, pp. 133–138, November–December, 1974.  相似文献

The effect of cooling of a permeable surface on the stability of a supersonic boundary layer on it is investigated. As distinct from the case of an impermeable surface, deep cooling can reduce the critical Reynolds number. Common points of the continuous and discrete spectra are found in the region of the disturbance parameters.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 1, pp. 41–46, January–February, 1977.The work was carried out at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Western Ontario in Canada. I am grateful to the Head of the Department Professor J. Blackwell for suggesting the investigation of this problem.  相似文献

In this paper we study the stability of the equilibrium of a liquid heated from below, wherein the liquid saturates a planar layer of a porous medium arbitrarily inclined to the direction of gravity. We consider the cases for which the boundaries of the layer are heat-conducting and also thermally insulated. In a horizontal layer with heat-conducting boundaries equilibrium is destroyed by perturbations of cellular structure [1], In a vertical layer the minimum critical temperature gradient corresponds to perturbations of plane-parallel structure. The transition to cellular perturbations in the case of heat-conducting boundaries takes place at an arbitrarily small angle of inclination of the layer to the vertical. For the thermally insulated layer the crisis of equilibrium is connected with plane-parallel perturbations at all angles of inclination.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 3, pp. 127–131, May–June, 1973.The author thanks G. We consider the problem of a hypersonic viscous flow of a nonreactive mixture of ideal gases around smooth thick bodies in the framework of a two-layer model of a thin shock layer for moderately small Reynolds numbers. We investigate the effect of blowing of a foreign gas through a permeable surface in the bow region of a spherical blunt body. We introduce a transformation of variables that gives a number of important advantages in the numerical solution of the problem under consideration. The problem of mass blowing from the surface of a body into a boundary layer has an extensive literature. The effect of blowing for moderately small Reynolds numbers has been considerably less studied [1–5], and in the majority of papers on this question either the critical point of a blunt body or the blowing of a gas homogeneous with the gas in the incoming flow is investigated.Moscow. We consider the stationary plane-parallel convective flow, studied in [1], which appears in a two-dimensional horizontal layer of a liquid in the presence of a longitudinal temperature gradient. In the present paper we examine the stability of this flow relative to small perturbations. To solve the spectral amplitude problem and to determine the stability boundaries we apply a version of the Galerkin method, which was used earlier for studying the stability of convective flows in vertical and inclined layers in the presence of a transverse temperature difference or of internal heat sources (see [2]). A horizontal plane-parallel flow is found to be unstable relative to two critical modes of perturbations. For small Prandtl numbers the instability has a hydrodynamic character and is associated with the development of vortices on the boundary of counterflows. For moderate and for large Prandtl numbers the instability has a Rayleigh character and is due to a thermal stratification arising in the stationary flow.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 1, pp. 95–100, January–February, 1974.  相似文献

The equilibrium stability is investigated of a system consisting of two semi-infinite isothermal masses of fluid divided by a horizontal layer of finite thickness of the same fluid with a vertical temperature gradient directed downwards. The transition layer is separated by thin permeable membranes. Neutral stability curves are constructed for different membrane resistances. In the case of high permeability, the equilibrium is absolutely unstable with respect to monotonic-type longwave perturbations. For low permeability membranes, instability with respect to monotonic finite-wavelength perturbations is characteristic.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 171–173, July–August, 1985.  相似文献

A plane-parallel convective flow in a vertical layer between boundaries maintained at different temperatures becomes unstable when the Grashof number reaches a critical value (see [1]). In [2, 3] the effect of high-frequency harmonic vibration in the vertical direction on the stability of this flow was investigated. The presence of vibration in a nonisothermal fluid leads to the appearance of a new instability mechanism which operates even under conditions of total weightlessness [4]. As shown in [2, 3], the interaction of the usual instability mechanisms in a static gravity field and the vibration mechanism has an important influence on the stability of convective flow. In this paper the flow stability is considered for an arbitrary direction of the vibration axis in the plane of the layer and the stability characteristics with respect to three-dimensional normal perturbations are determined.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 2, pp. 116–122, March–April, 1988.  相似文献

The instability of a bubbling layer due to the presence of a vertical gradient in the ascent velocity of the bubbles, causing stratification of the layer with respect to density, is considered in [1]. A similar instability mechanism of a fluidized bed is studied in [2]. The stabilizing influence of electrical and magnetic fields on a bubbling layer is shown in [3]. Consideration is given in [4] to the influence of the conditions of supply of the gas on the stability of a bubbling layer with an immobile filling. The present work deals with the stability of the mechanical equilibrium of a horizontal layer of liquid with an immobile filling through which a gas soluble in the liquid is bubbled. It is shown that there exists a critical solubility of the gas at which the mechanical equilibrium is unstable with respect to monotonie perturbations.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 68–74, September–October, 1984.The author would like to thank V. A theoretical study is made of the critical curves for the onset of convection in a plane horizontal layer of liquid rotating with constant angular velocity for different conditions on the boundary of the layer. It is shown that, in contrast to Chandresekhar's curves [1] obtained under the condition of constancy of the temperature on the boundaries, the curves for a constant heat flux lie significantly lower, so that convection occurs earlier for all Taylor numbers. At large Taylor numbers all the stability curves, as in [1], tend to the asymptotes RC Ta2/3, where Ta is the Taylor number and RC is the critical Rayleigh number. A similar investigation for a nonrotating liquid was made in [2].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 124–129, May–June, 1988.We thank G. S. Golitsyn for the proposed subject and constant interest in the work.  相似文献

The stability of the stationary (steady-state) laminar boundary layer of a non-Newtonian liquid obeying a power-type rheological law at a semiinfinite plate situated in a longitudinal flow is analyzed. An approximate formula is derived for estimating the minimum Reynolds number at which the flow loses stability with respect to slight two-dimensional perturbations. Calculations of the point of stability loss for aqueous solutions of carboxyl methyl cellulose are presented.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 2, pp. 121–124, March–April, 1971.  相似文献

Using the Navier-Stokes equation the stability of a layer of viscous liquid flowing down a solid surface under gravity is studied in the linear formulation. The effect of surface tension and the inclination of the solid surface on the limits of stability are examined also. Curves are calculated for the neutral stability with respect to two types of perturbations — surface waves and shear waves.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskol Fiziki, No. 2, pp. 172–176, March–April, 1975.  相似文献

In an inhomogeneously heated weakly conductive liquid (electrical conductivity 10–12–1 cm–1) located in a constant electric field a volume charge is induced because of thermal inhomogeneity of electrical conductivity and dielectric permittivity. The ponderomotive forces which develop set the liquid into intense motion [1–6]. However, under certain conditions equilibrium proves possible, and in that case the question of its stability may be considered. A theoretical analysis of liquid equilibrium stability in a planar horizontal condenser was performed in [2, 4]. Critical problem parameters were found for the case where Archimedean forces are absent [2]. Charge perturbation relaxation was considered instantaneous. It was shown that instability is of an oscillatory character. In [4] only heating from above was considered. Basic results were obtained in the limiting case of disappearingly small thermal diffusivity in the liquid (infinitely high Prandtl numbers). In the present study a more general formulation will be used to examine convective stability of equilibrium of a vertical liquid layer heated from above or below and located in an electric field. For the case of a layer with free thermally insulated boundaries, an exact solution is obtained. Values of critical Rayleigh number and neutral oscillation frequency for heating from above and below are found Neutral curves are constructed. It is demonstrated that with heating from below instability of both the oscillatory and monotonic types is possible, while with heating from above the instability has an oscillatory character. Values are found for the dimensionless field parameter at which the form of instability changes for heating from below and at which instability becomes possible for heating from above.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 16–23, September–October, 1976.In conclusion, the author thanks E. The results are given of measurements of friction behind a permeable section in a subsonic turbulent boundary layer at blowing intensity j = 0.003–0.04. Methods are proposed for calculating the local coefficients of friction in the region of a gas screen and the Reynolds number determined from the momentum loss thickness; these are in satisfactory agreement with experiment.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 2, pp. 159–162, March–April, 1979.  相似文献

The parametric instability of a nonuniformly heated horizontal layer of liquid dielectric with free isothermal boundaries in a transverse electric field is studied analytically. An instability map is obtained. It is shown that instability can develop at some critical electric field strength which depends on the frequency and is several times greater than the critical strength of the constant electric field.Translated from Izvestiya Rossiiskoi Akademii Nauk, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 184–186, September–October, 1993.  相似文献

The development of convection in a horizontal liquid layer located in a periodically modulated gravitational field (or with periodically varying temperature gradient) is examined. The effect of modulation frequency on stability is studied. Modulation stabilizes equilibrium if the direction of the gravitational force remains constant at all times. In the opposite case, stabilization occurs only at sufficiently high frequencies. In [1] the dependence of the critical Rayleigh number on modulation amplitude of the external force for several fixed frequencies was examined. In all cases examined in [1], the modulation proves to have a stabilizing influence.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 81–86, May–June, 1972.  相似文献
