The most stable structures of V x O y +/V x O y (x=1, 2, y=1–5) clusters and their interaction with O2 are determined by density functional calculations, the B3LYP functional with the 6-31G* basis set. The nature of the bonding of these clusters and the interaction with O2 have been studied by topological analysis in the framework of both the atoms-in-molecules theory of Bader and the Becke–Edgecombe electron localization function. Bond critical points are localized by means of the analysis of the electron density gradient field, ∇ρ(r), and the electron localization function gradient field, ∇η(r). The values of the electron density properties, i.e., electron density, ρ(r), Laplacian of the electron density, ∇2ρ(r), and electron localization function, η(r), allow the nature of the bonds to be characterized, and linear correlation is found for the results obtained in both gradient fields. Vanadium-oxygen interactions are characterized as unshared-electron interactions, and linear correlation is observed between the electron density properties and the V–O bond length. In contrast, O2 units involve typical shared-electron interactions, as for the dioxygen molecule. Four different vanadium–oxygen interactions are found and characterized: a molecular O2 interaction, a peroxo O2 2− interaction, a superoxo O2 interaction and a side-on O2 interaction.  Localization, λ(A), and delocalization indices, δ(A,B), as defined in the atoms in molecules theory, are a convenient tool for the analysis of molecular electronic structure from an electron-pair perspective. These indices can be calculated at any level of theory, provided that first- and second-order electron densities are available. In particular, calculations at the Hartree–Fock (HF) and configuration interaction (CI) levels have been previously reported for many molecules. However, λ(A) and δ(A,B) cannot be calculated exactly in the framework of Kohn–Sham (KS) density functional theory (DFT), where the electron-pair density is not defined. As a practical workaround, one can derive a HF-like electron-pair density from the KS orbitals and calculate approximate localization and delocalization indices at the DFT level. Recently, several calculations using this approach have been reported. Here we present HF, CI and approximate DFT calculations of λ(A) and δ(A,B) values for a number of molecules. Furthermore, we also perform approximate CI calculations using the HF formalism to obtain the electron-pair density. In general, the approximate DFT and CI results are closer to the HF results than to the CI ones. Indeed, the approximate calculations take into account Coulomb electron correlation effects on the first-order electron density but not on the electron-pair density. In summary, approximate DFT and CI localization and delocalization indices are easy to calculate and can be useful in the analysis of molecular electronic structure; however, one should take into account that this approximation increases systematically the delocalization between covalently bonded atoms, with respect to the exact CI results.  The structures and isomerization pathways of various HC2P isomers in both singlet and triplet states are investigated at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p), QCISD/6-311G(d,p) (for isomers only) and single-point CCSD(T)/6-311G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) levels. At the CCSD(T)/6-311G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level, the lowest-lying isomer is a linear HCCP structure 3 1 in the 3 state. The second low-lying isomer has a CPC ring with exocyclic CH bonding 1 5 in a singlet state at 10.5 kcal/mol. The following third and fourth low-lying isomers are a singlet bent HCCP structure 1 1 at 20.9 kcal/mol and a bent singlet HPCC structure 1 3 at 35.8 kcal/mol, respectively. Investigation of the HC2P potential-energy surface indicates that in addition to the experimentally known isomer 3 1, the other isomers 1 1, 1 3 and 1 5 also have considerable kinetic stability and may thus be observable. However, the singlet and triplet bent isomers HCPC 1 2 and 3 2 as well as the triplet bent isomer HPCC 3 3 are not only high-lying but are also kinetically unstable, in sharp contrast to the situation of the analogous HCNC and HNCC species that are both kinetically stable and that have been observed experimentally. Furthermore, the reactivity of various HC2P isomers towards oxygen atoms is briefly discussed. The results presented here may be useful for future identification of the completely unknown yet kinetically stable HC2P isomers 1 1, 1 3 and 1 5 either in the laboratory or in interstellar space. Ab initio molecular orbital theory and density functional theory have been used to study nine isomers of N7 ionic clusters with low spin at the HF/6-31G*, MP2/6-31G*, B3LYP/6-31G*, and B3LYP/6-311(+)G* levels of theory. All stationary points are examined with harmonic vibrational frequency analyses. Four N7 + isomers and five N7 isomers are determined to be local minima or very close to the minima on their potential-energy hypersurfaces, respectively. For N7 + and N7 , the energetically low lying isomers are open-chain structures (C 2 v and C 2 v or C2). The results are very similar to those of other known odd-number nitrogen ions, such as N5 +, N9 +, and N9 , for which the open-chain structures are also the global minima. This research suggests that the N7 ionic clusters are likely to be stable and to be potential high-energy-density materials if they could be synthesized. For all isolated pentagon isomers of the fullerenes C60–C86 with nonzero HOMO–LUMO gap and for one nonclassical C72 isomer (C2 v ), endohedral chemical shifts have been computed at the GIAO-SCF/3-21G level using B3LYP/6-31G* optimized structures. The experimental 3He NMR signals are reproduced reasonably well in cases where assignments are unambiguous (e.g. C60, C70 and C76). On the basis of the calculated thermodynamic stability order and the comparison between the computed and experimental 3He chemical shifts, the assignments of the observed 3He NMR spectra are discussed for all higher fullerenes, and new assignments are proposed for one C82 and one C86 isomer (C82:3 and C86:17). The calculated helium chemical shifts also suggest the reassignment of the δ(3He) resonances of two C78 isomers. Relativistic energy-consistent small-core lanthanide pseudopotentials of the Stuttgart–Bonn variety and extended valence basis sets have been used for the investigation of the dimers La2 and Lu2. It was found that the ground states for La2 and Lu2 are most likely 1 g + g 2π u 4) and 3 g (4f 144f 14σ g 2σ u 2πu 2), respectively. The molecular constants including error bars were derived from multireference configuration interaction as well as coupled-cluster calculations, taking into account corrections for atomic spin–orbit splitting as well as possible basis set superposition errors. The theoretical values for La2 (R e=2.70±0.03 ?, D e=2.31±0.13 eV, ωe=186±13 cm−1) show good agreement with the experimental binding energy (D e=2.52±0.22 eV), but the experimental vibrational constant in an Ar matrix (ωe=236±0.8 cm−1) is significantly higher. For Lu2 the theoretical values (R e=3.07±0.03 ?, D e=1.40±0.12 eV, ωe=123±1 cm−1) are in overall excellent agreement with experimental data (D e=1.43±0.34 eV, ωe=122± 1 cm−1). The electronic structures of La2 and Lu2 are compared to those other lanthanide dimers and trends in the series are discussed. The structures, properties and the bonding character for sub-carbonyl Si, SiCO and Si(CO)2, in singlet and triplet states have been investigated using complete-active-space self-consistent field (CASSCF), density functional theory and second-order M?ller–Plesset methods with a 6-311+G* basis set. The results indicate that the SiCO species possesses a 3ground state, and the singlet 1Δ excited state is higher in energy than the 3 state by 17.3 kcalmol−1 at the CASSCF–MP2/6-311+G* level and by 16.4 kcalmol−1 at the CCSD(T)/6-311+G* level. The SiCO ground state may be classified as silene (carbonylsilene), and its COδ− moiety possesses CO property. The formation of SiCO causes the weakening of CO bonds. The Si–C bond consists of a weak σ bond and two weak π bonds. Although the Si–C bond length is similar to that of typical Si–C bonds, the bond strength is weaker than the Si–C bonds in Si-containing alkanes; the calculated dissociation energy is 26.2 kcalmol−1 at the CCSD(T)/6-311+G* level. The corresponding bending potential-energy surface is flat; therefore, the SiCO molecule is facile. For the bicarbonyl Si systems, Si(CO)2, there exist two V-type structures for both states. The stablest state is the singlet state (1A1), and may be referred to the ground state. The triplet state (3B1) is energetically higher in energy than the 1A1 state by about 40 kcalmol−1 at the CCSD(T)/6-311 + G* level. The bond lengths in the 1A1 state are very close to those of the SiCO species, but the SiCO moieties are bent by about 10°, and the CSiC angles are only about 78°. The corresponding 3B1 state has a CSiC angle of about 54° and a SiCO angle of about 165°, but its Si–C and C–O bonds are longer than those in the 1A1 state by about 0.07 and 0.03 ?, respectively. This Si(CO)2 (1A1) has essentially silene character and should be referred to as a bicarbonyl silene. Comparison of the CO dissociation energies of SiCO and Si(CO)2 in their ground states indicates that the first CO dissociation energy of Si(CO)2 is smaller by about 7 kcalmol−1 than that of SiCO; the average one over both CO groups is also smaller than that of SiCO. A detailed bonding analysis shows that the possibility is small for the existence of polycarbonyl Si with more than three CO. This prediction may also be true for similar carbonyl complexes containing other nonmetal and non-transition-metal atoms or clusters. Molecular geometries of fifty-six metallatranes N(CH2CH2Y)3M-X and fifty-six carbon analogs HC(CH2CH2Y)3M-X (M = Si, Ge; X = H, Me, OH, F; Y = CH2, O, NH, NMe, NSiMe3, PH, S) were optimized by the DFT method. Correlations between changes in the bond orbital populations, electron density ρ(r), electron density laplacian ∇2ρ(r), |λ1|/λ3 ratio, electronic energy density E(r), bond lengths, and displacement of the central atom from the plane of three equatorial substituents and the nature of substituents X and Y were studied. As the number of electronegative substituents at the central atom increases, the M←N, M-X, and M-Y bond lengths decrease, while the M←N bond strength and the electron density at critical points of the M←N, M-X, and M-Y bonds increase. An increase in electronegativity of a substituent (X or Y) is accompanied by a decrease in the ionicities of the other bonds (M-X, M-Y, and M←N) formed by the central atom (Si, Ge). A new molecular orbital diagram for bond formation is proposed, which takes into account the interaction of all five substituents at the central atom (M = Si, Ge) in atrane molecules. Gradient-corrected (GGA) and hybrid variants of density functional theory are used to compute geometries and 55Mn chemical shifts of MnO4 , Mn(CO)6 +, Mn2(CO)10, Mn(CO)5 X [X=H, Cl, C(O)Me], Mn(CO)5 , Mn(NO)3(CO), and Mn(C5H5)L x [L x =(CO)3, C6H6, C7H8]. For this set of compounds, substituent effects on δ(55Mn) are significantly underestimated with the pure GGA functional BPW91 and are well described with hybrid functionals such as mPW1PW91 and, in particular, B3LYP. The computed data provide evidence for solvent and counterion effects on δ(55Mn) of MnO4 and Mn(CO)6 +, respectively. The latter, in the presence of Cl, may be described as highly fluxional Mn(CO)5C(O)Cl. Electric field gradients computed with the B3LYP functional can be used for a qualitative rationalization of observed trends in 55Mn NMR line widths. Based on the continuum dielectric model, this work has established the relationship between the solvent reorganization energy of electron transfer (ET) and the equilibrium solvation free energy. The dipole-reaction field interaction model has been proposed to describe the electrostatic solute-solvent interaction. The self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) approach has been applied to the calculation of the solvent reorganization energy in self-exchange reactions. A series of redox couples, O2/O 2, NO/NO+, O3/O 3, N3/N 3, NO2/NO+ 2, CO2/CO 2, SO2/SO 2, and ClO2/ClO 2, as well as (CH2)2C-(-CH2-) n -C(CH2)2 (n=1 ∼ 3) model systems have been investigated using ab initio calculation. For these ET systems, solvent reorganization energies have been estimated. Comparisons between our single-sphere approximation and the Marcus two-sphere model have also been made. For the inner reorganization energies of inorganic redox couples, errors are found not larger than 15% when comparing our SCRF results with those obtained from the experimental estimation. While for the (CH2)2C–(–CH2–) n –C(CH2)2 (n=1 ∼ 3) systems, the results reveal that the solvent reorganization energy strongly depends on the bridge length due to the variation of the dipole moment of the ionic solute, and that solvent reorganization energies for different systems lead to slightly different two-sphere radii. From the second moments of the electron-pair densities in momentum space, accurate Hartree–Fock values of the average inner product sum 〈∑ i<j p i ·p j 〉 of electron linear momenta are evaluated for the 102 neutral atoms from He to Lr, the 53 singly charged cations from Li+ to Cs+, and the 43 stable anions from H to I in their experimental ground states.  The B3LYP/6-311G(d) and CCSD(T)/6-311G(2df) (single-point) methods have been used to investigate the singlet potential energy surface of C2NP, in which seven stationary isomers and seventeen interconversion transition states are involved. At the final CCSD(T)/6-311G(2df)//B3LYP6-311G(d) level with zero-point vibrational energy correction the lowest-lying isomer is a linear NCCP followed by two linear CNCP isomers at 23.9  and CCNP at 65.8 kcal mol−1, respectively. The three isomers are kinetically very stable towards both isomerization and dissociation, and CCNP is even more kinetically stable than CNCP – by 14.3 kcal mol−1 despite its high energy. Further comparative calculations were performed at the QCISD and QCISD(T) levels with the 6-311G(d) and 6-311G(2d) basis sets to obtain more reliable structures and spectroscopy for the three isomers. The calculated bond lengths, rotational constant, and dipole moment for NCCP were in close agreement with the experimentally determined values. Finally, similarities and discrepancies between the potential energy surface of C2NP and those of the analogous species C2N2 and C2P2 were compared. The results presented in this paper might be helpful for future identification of the two still unknown yet kinetically very stable isomers CNCP and CCNP, both in the laboratory and in interstellar space.  The nature of the Maxwell–Cartesian spherical harmonics S (n) K and their relation to tesseral harmonics Y nm is examined with the help of “tricorn arrays” that display the components of a totally symmetric Cartesian tensor of any rank in a systematic way. The arrays show the symmetries of the Maxwell–Cartesian harmonic tensors with respect to permutation of axes, the traceless properties of the tensors, the linearly independent subsets, the nonorthogonal subsets, and the subsets whose linear combinations produce the tesseral harmonics. The two families of harmonics are related by their connection with the gradients of 1/r, and explicit formulas for the transformation coefficients are derived. The rotational transformation of S (n) K functions is described by a relatively simple Cartesian tensor method. The utility of the Maxwell–Cartesian harmonics in the theory of multipole potentials, where these functions originated in the work of Maxwell, is illustrated with some newer applications which employ a detracer exchange theorem and make use of the partial linear independence of the functions. The properties of atomic orbitals whose angular part is described by Maxwell–Cartesian harmonics are explored, including their angular momenta, adherence to an Uns?ld-type spherical symmetry relation, and potential for eliminating an angular momentum “contamination” problem in Cartesian Gaussian basis sets.  The numerical properties of the radial part of overlap integrals with the same screening parameters in the form of polynomials in p = ξR over Slater-type orbitals have been studied and obtained by using three different methods. For that purpose, the characteristics of auxiliary functions were used first, then Fourier transform convolution theorem, and recurrence relations for the basic coefficients of A s n l λ, n l ′λ were used. The calculations of the radial part of overlap integrals with the same screening parameters were made in the range 1 ≤ n ≤ 75, 1 ≤ n′ ≤ 75, and 10−6 ≤ p. The Flory–Huggins interaction parameter, χ 23, characterizing the interaction between solvents in a mixed stationary phase has been calculated using inverse gas chromatography (IGC). The χ 23 parameters for four mixed solvent systems formed by mixing a non-polar branched alkane, 19, 24-dioctadecyldotetracontane (C78), with four different polar solvents are analysed as a function of temperature. Two of the polar solvents are formed by replacing one of the –CH3 groups of C78 by –OH (POH) group and –CN (PCN) group and the other two polar solvents are formed by replacing all the four –CH3 groups of C78 by four –CF3 (TTF) groups and four –OCH3 (TMO) groups. The five solvents have similar structures and nearly the same molar volume and in mixtures, they form regular solutions. For the mixture, C78 + POH, χ 23 was calculated at two compositions and for the remaining three mixtures χ 23 was calculated at equimolar composition. Eight solute probes representing all possible chemical structures and polarity were used under conditions approaching infinite dilution. The effects of temperature, concentration of the mixed solvent and probe solute on χ 23 are presented and discussed. The probe-independent χ 23 values were also calculated by linear regression analysis using the retention data of all the solute probes. In all the mixed solvents considered here the χ 23 values are probe-dependent and decrease with increase of temperature.  相似文献

The ground state and several low-lying excited states of the Mg2 dimer have been studied by means of a combination of the complete-active-space multiconfiguration self-consistent-field (CASSCF)/CAS multireference second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) method and coupled-cluster with single and double excitations and perturbative contribution of connected triple excitations [CCSD(T)] scheme. Reasonably good agreement with experiment has been obtained for the CCSD(T) ground-state potential curve but the dissociation energy of the only experimentally known A1Σ u + excited state of Mg2 is somewhat overestimated at the CASSCF/CASPT2 level. The spectroscopic constants D e, R e and ωe deduced from the calculated potential curves for other states are also reported. In addition, some spin–orbit matrix elements between the excited singlet and triplet states of Mg2 have been evaluated as a function of internuclear separation. We determine conditions for the parameters n and δ, for which the general Randić index R δ is not an acceptable index of branching of n-vertex trees, i.e., for which the n-vertex star and the n-vertex path have not extremal R δ-values among all n-vertex trees. Analogous results are established also in the case of n-vertex chemical trees. Numerous other results for the general Randić index of trees and chemical trees are obtained.   相似文献

Given PH a phenylene, and HS its corresponding hexagonal squeeze, their second-order Randić indices are denoted by 2χ(P H) and 2χ(H S), respectively. The expressions of both 2χ(P H) and 2χ(H S) in terms of their inlet features are found, and a simple relation is estabblished between the second order Randić index of a phenylene and of the corresponding hexagonal squeeze.  相似文献

A number of configurations of NLi n Na2 (n = 1–4) species were optimized using the B3LYP–density functional theory method; the 6-31G* basis set was used in this calculation. In order to study all possible dissociation energies, some related species such as NLi2Na, NLi n (n = 1–4), Li n (n = 1, 2) and Na n (n = 1, 2) were also considered. Optimizations of these species were followed by fundamental frequency calculations at the same level. Global minima of these species were shown to adopt C 2 v (NLi4Na2, NLi2Na2), D 3 h (NLi3Na2) and C s (NLiNa2 and NLi2Na) configurations. All possible dissociation energies were obtained. Let P be a polynomial of degree n, whose zeros λ1, λ2, ..., λ n are real-valued. The Coulson integral formula (first reported in 1940) is an expression for the sum of the positive–valued zeros of P, in terms of P. We show that the Coulson formula holds if and only if the condition λ12+...+λ n =0 is obeyed. We also show how the formula has to be modified, so that it be applicable in the case when λ12+...+λ n ≠ 0. Ams Classification (2000): primary: 92E10, secondary: 32A27, 81Q99  相似文献
