This study attempts to derive the statistics of temperature and thermal stress in functionally graded material (FGM) plates exposed to random external temperatures. The thermomechanical properties of the FGM plates are assumed to vary arbitrarily only in the plate thickness direction. The external temperatures are expressed as random functions with respect to time. The transient temperature field in the FGM plate is determined by solving a nonhomogeneous heat conduction problem for a multilayered plate with linear nonhomogeneous thermal conductivity and different homogeneous heat capacity in each layer. The autocorrelations and power spectrum densities (PSDs) of temperature and thermal stress are derived analytically. These statistics for FGM plates composed of partially stabilised zirconia (PSZ) and austenitic stainless steel (SUS304) are computed under the condition that the fluctuation in the external temperature can be considered as white noise or a stationary Markov process.  相似文献

Exact solutions for generally supported functionally graded plane beams are given within the framework of symplectic elasticity. The Young’s modulus is assumed to exponentially vary along the longitudinal direction while the Poisson’s ratio remains constant. The state equation with a shift-Hamiltonian operator matrix has been established in the previous work, which is limited to the Saint-Venant solution. Here, a complete rational analysis of the displacement and stress distributions in the beam is presented by exploring the eigensolutions that are usually covered up by the Saint-Venant principle. These solutions play a significant role in the local behavior of materials that is usually ignored in the conventional elasticity methods but possibly crucial to the material/structure failures. The analysis makes full use of the symplectic orthogonality of the eigensolutions. Two illustrative examples are presented to compare the displacement and stress results with those for homogenous materials, demonstrating the effects of material inhomogeneity.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the determination of thermoelastic displacement, stress and temperature in a functionally graded spherically isotropic infinite elastic medium having a spherical cavity, in the context of the linear theory of generalized thermoelasticity with two relaxation time parameters (Green and Lindsay theory). The surface of cavity is stress-free and is subjected to a time-dependent thermal shock. The basic equations have been written in the form of a vector-matrix differential equation in the Laplace transform domain, which is then solved by an eigenvalue approach. Numerical inversion of the transforms is carried out using the Bellman method. Displacement, stress and temperature are computed and presented graphically. It is found that variation in the thermo-physical properties of a material strongly influences the response to loading. A comparative study with a corresponding homogeneous material is also made.  相似文献

Summary  In this paper, the dynamic anti-plane crack problem of two dissimilar homogeneous piezoelectric materials bonded through a functionally graded interfacial region is considered. Integral transforms are employed to reduce the problem to Cauchy singular integral equations. Numerical results illustrate the effect of the loading combination parameter λ, material property distribution and crack configuration on the dynamic stress and electric displacement intensity factors. It is found that the presence of the dynamic electric field could impede of enhance the crack propagation depending on the time elapsed and the direction of applied electric impact. We consider a linear elastic composite medium, which consists of a homogeneousmatrix containing aligned ellipsoidal uncoated or coated inclusions arranged in a doubly periodicarray and subjected to inhomogeneous boundary conditions. The hypothesis of effective fieldhomogeneity near the inclusions is used. The general integral equation obtained reduces theanalysis of infinite number of inclusion problems to the analysis of a finite number of inclusions insome representative volume element (RVE) . The integral equation is solved by a modifiedversion of the Neumann series; the fast convergence of this method is demonstrated for concreteexamples. The nonlocal macroscopic constitutive equation relating the cell averages of stress andstrain is derived in explicit iterative form of an integral equation. A doubly periodic inclusion fieldin a finite ply subjected to a stress gradient along the functionally graded direction is considered. The stresses averaged over the cell are explicitly represented as functions of the boundaryconditions. Finally, the employed of proposed explicit relations for numerical simulations oftensors describing the local and nonlocal effective elastic properties of finite inclusion pliescontaining a simple cubic lattice of rigid inclusions and voids are considered. The local andnonlocal parts of average strains are estimated for inclusion plies of different thickness. Theboundary layers and scale effects for effective local and nonlocal effective properties as well as foraverage stresses will be revealed.  相似文献

Thermal post-bunkling analyses of functionally graded material rod   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The non-linear governing differential equations of immovably simply supported functionally graded material (FGM) rod subjected to thermal loads were derived. The thermal post-buckling behaviors of FGM rod made of ZrO2 and Ti-6Al-4Vwere analyzed by shooting method. Firstly, the thermal post-buckling equilibrium paths of the FGM rod with different gradient index in the uniform temperature field were plotted, and compared with the behaviors of the homogeneous rods made of ZrO2 and Ti-6A1-4V materials, respectively. For given value of end rotation angles, the influence of gradient index on the thermal post-buckling behaviors of FGM rod was discussed. Secondly, the thermal post-buckling characteristics of the FGM rod were analyzed when the temperature difference parameter is changed while the bottom temperature parameter remains constant, and when the bottom temperature parameter is changed while the temperature difference parameter remains constant, and compared with the characteristics of the two homogeneous material rods.  相似文献

Bending of functionally graded piezoelectric rectangular plates   总被引:25,自引:0,他引:25
By introducing two displacement functions as well as two stress functions, two independent state equations with variable coefficients are derived from the three-dimensional theory equations of piezoelasticity for transverse isotropy. A laminated approximation is used to transform the state equations to those with constant coefficients in each sub-layer. The bending problem of a functionally graded rectangular plate is then analyzed based on the state equations. Numerical results are presented and the effect of material gradient index is discussed. The statistics (i.e., mean and variance) of temperature and thermal stress are analytically obtained in functionally graded material (FGM) plates with uncertainties in the thermal conductivity and coefficient of linear thermal expansion. These FGM plates are assumed to have arbitrary nonhomogeneous thermal and mechanical properties through the entire thickness of plate and are subjected to deterministic convective heating. The stochastic temperature and thermal stress fields are analysed by assuming the FGM plate is multilayered with distinct, random thermal conductivity and coefficient of linear thermal expansion in each layer. Vodicka’s method, which is a type of integral transform method, and a perturbation method are employed to obtain the analytical solutions for the statistics. The autocorrelation coefficients of each random property and cross-correlation coefficients between different random properties are expressed in exponential function forms as a non-homogeneous Markov random field of discrete space. Numerical calculations are performed for FGM plates composed of partially stabilised zirconia (PSZ) and austenitic stainless steel (SUS304), which have the largest dispersion of the random properties at the place where the volume fractions of the two constituent materials are both 0.5. The effects of the spatial change in material composition, thermal boundary condition and correlation coefficients on the standard deviations of the temperature and thermal stress are discussed.  相似文献

Love’s first approximation theory is used to analyze the natural frequencies of rotating functionally graded cylindrical shells. To verify the validity of the present method, the natural frequencies of the simply supported non-rotating isotropic cylindrical shell and the functionally graded cylindrical shell are compared with available published results.Good agreement is obtained. The effects of the power law index, the wave numbers along the x-and θ-directions,and the thickness-to-radius ratio on the natural frequencies of the simply supported rotating functionally graded cylindrical shell are investigated by several numerical examples. It is found that the fundamental frequencies of the backward waves increase with the increasing rotating speed, the fundamental frequencies of the forward waves decrease with the increasing rotating speed, and the forward and backward waves frequencies increase with the increasing thickness-to-radius ratio.  相似文献

Summary  The present study analyzes elasto–plastic thermal stresses in some particle-reinforced functionally graded material plates (FGP) by taking into consideration residual stresses of the fabrication process. For the FGP, the region near the cooling metal surface consists of distributed ceramic particles in a metal matrix, while the region near the heating ceramic surface contains distributed metal particles in a ceramic matrix. We use the thermo–elasto–plastic constitutive equation of a particle-reinforced composite, taking into consideration temperature changes and damage as well as the reinforcing effect of particles. Elasto–plastic thermal stresses are discussed here with the goal of reducing the thermal stresses. Two kinds of particle-reinforced FGP are considered: the first kind (FGP1) represents distributed ceramic particles in the metal matrix, and the second one (FGP2) represents distributed metal particles in the ceramic matrix. We modify the thermo–elasto–plastic constitutive equation of a particle-reinforced composite for the FGP2 by taking into consideration temperature changes and damage as well as the reinforcing effect of particles. Using the temperature-dependent material properties, three cases of temperature conditions are studied. The first one is the cooling from the fabrication temperature to the room temperature, the second one is the heating from the room temperature, and the last one is the heating after cooling from the fabrication temperature. The particle volume fraction is assumed to vary according to a power function in the thickness direction of the FGPs. Using the finite element method, the effects of the distribution parameter of the composition on the macroscopic stress, the stress in the matrix and the stress in the particle in the FGPs are discussed. Also, the effects of the particle volume fraction and the fabrication temperature on the maximum tensile matrix stress are discussed. The nonlinear interaction of tone bursts in functionally graded materials with strongly variable properties is studied resorting to the five constant nonlinear theory of elasticity in the 1D setting. The problem is solved numerically for an exponentially graded material. The influence of the material properties variation on the bursts profiles evolution is traced on the boundaries of the sample. A special case of the bursts interaction by which oscillations evoked by counterpropagating bursts disappear in the homogeneous material is proposed as a reference case for the problem of nondestructive material characterization. The deviation from this special case caused by inhomogeneity in material properties is analyzed by parametric plots. Obtained results may be used by qualitative nondestructive determination of the inhomogeneity in material properties.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical solution of a thick walled cylinder com- posed of a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) and subjected to a uniform electric field and non-axisymmetric thermo-mechanical loads. All material properties, except Poisson's ratio that is assumed to be constant, obey the same power law. An exact solution for the resulting Navier equations is developed by the separation of variables and complex Fourier series. Stress and strain distributions and a displacement field through the cylinder are obtained by this technique. To examine the analytical approach, different examples are solved by this method, and the results are discussed.  相似文献

An elastodynamic solution for plane-strain response of functionally graded thick hollow cylinders subjected to uniformly-distributed dynamic pressures at boundary surfaces is presented. The material properties, except Poisson’s ratio, are assumed to vary through the thickness according to a power law function. To achieve an exact solution, the dynamic radial displacement is divided into two quasi-static and dynamic parts, and for each part, an analytical solution is derived. The quasi-static solution is obtained by means of Euler’s equation, and the dynamic solution is derived using the method of the separation of variables and the orthogonal expansion technique. The radial displacement and stress distributions are plotted for various functionally graded material (FGM) hollow cylinders under different dynamic loads, and the advantages of the presented method are discussed. The proposed analytical solution is suitable for analyzing various arrangements of hollow FGM cylinders with arbitrary thickness and arbitrary initial conditions, which are subjected to arbitrary forms of dynamic pressures distributed uniformly on their boundary surfaces.  相似文献

The size effects on the shear buckling behaviors of skew nanoplates made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are presented. The material properties are supposed to be changed uniformly from the ceramic phase to the metal one along the plate thickness. To estimate the associated effective material properties, various homogenization schemes including the Reuss model, the Voigt model, the Mori-Tanaka model, and the Hashin-Shtrikman bound model are used. The nonlocal elasticity theory together with the oblique coordinate system is applied to the higher-order shear deformation plate theory to develop a size-dependent plate model for the shear buckling analysis of FGM skew nanoplates. The Ritz method using Gram-Schmidt shape functions is used to solve the size-dependent problem. It is found that the significance of the nonlocality in the reduction of the shear buckling load of an FGM skew nanoplate increases for a higher value of the material property gradient index. Also, by increasing the skew angle, the critical shear buckling load of an FGM skew nanoplate enhances. This pattern becomes a bit less significant for a higher value of the material property gradient index. Furthermore, among various homogenization models, the Voigt and Reuss models in order estimate the overestimated and underestimated shear buckling loads, and the difference between them reduces by increasing the aspect ratio of the skew nanoplate.  相似文献

The dynamic von Karman equations are used for nonlinear analysis of a thin circular plate made of a functionally graded material. The thickness of the plate is constant and the properties of the functionally graded material depend on temperature and vary throughout the thickness. It is assumed that the plate oscillates with large amplitudes. The forces and moments in the plate are determined in solving the equations for harmonic vibrations. Relevant results are obtained in the case of stead-state free vibrations. These results indicate that the volume fraction has a strong effect on the forces, moments, and material properties Published in Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 6, pp. 134–144, June 2008.
