High-spin states of 117Xe were investigated by means of in-beam γ-ray spectroscopic techniques via the reaction of 28Si bombarding a 92Mo target at beam energies of 100-120 MeV. A positive-parity rotational band decaying into the yrast negative-parity band
by a series of enhanced E1 transitions was observed for the first time, implying the existence of octupole correlations in
117Xe. The B(E1) values increase with spin. The νd5/2 band was firmly established up to 27/2+ and the B(M1)/B(E2) ratios were extracted from the relative intensities of γ-rays in this band. The previously known νh11/2 and νg7/2 [413]5/2+α=−1/2 bands were confirmed and extended up to high spins and two bandcrossings are observed in the latter at ħω=0.33 and
0.44 MeV, respectively. The bandcrossings and configurations of these bands are discussed by TRS and CSM calculations. In
a γ–γ–t measurement, the 11/2− and 7/2− levels were identified as two isomers with half-lives of 59.4±20 ns and 16.5±8.0 ns, respectively.

The neutron g
9/2 single-particle state in 57Ni has been unambiguously identified in a combined measurement of the linear polarization, angular distribution, and angular
correlation of γ rays following the fusion-evaporation reaction 28Si(32S,2pn)57Ni at a beam energy of 90 MeV. The linear polarization was measured with a Euroball cluster detector and a prototype of an encapsulated six-fold segmented hexaconical Ge-detector. The spin of the 3701 keV
level in 57Ni was confirmed to be I= 9/2 and its parity determined to be positive.

An effort has been made to search for the decoupled bands in odd-odd 174Re via the 159Tb(20Ne,5n γ)174Re reaction through excitation functions, K x-γ and γ-γ coincidence measurements. The doubly decoupled band and the semidecoupled
one have been found in this work. Their quasiparticle configurations are proposed to be π1/2−[541] ⊗ν1/2−[521] and π1/2−[541] ⊗νi
13/2, respectively, according to the characteristics of band structures in this mass region. Another band with strongly coupled
character is also reported.

The in-beam spectroscopy on N = 91 isotones has been carried out using the 12C + 150Nd reaction. The νi
13/2 and νh
11/2 bands of 153Sm have been extended up to 33/2+ and 31/2-, respectively. Two new γ-rays have been located on the top of the unfavored band with νi
13/2 configuration in 157Dy. Two identical relationships have been established in the low-spin region of the yrast νi
13/2 configuration between 153Sm and 155Gd, and between unfavored bands of 155Gd and 157Dy. Here all these nuclei have the same neutron number N = 91.

High-spin states of nuclei near doubly magic 56Ni were studied with the reaction 28Si(36Ar,xpynzα) at 136 MeV beam energy. The Gammasphere array in conjunction with the 4π charged-particle detector array Microball and
neutron detectors were used to detect γ rays in coincidence with evaporated light particles. The resulting extensive decay
schemes of 54Fe, 54,55Co, 56,57Ni, and 58Cu are compared to shell model calculations in the fp shell.

High spin states in 170Ta have been studied via 159Tb(16O,5nγ)170Ta reaction through excitation functions, K X-γ and γ-γ-t coincidence measurements. Three rotational bands have been identified
among which one coupled band and an unfavored δI=2 E2 transition sequence are newly found in this work. The possible quasiparticle
configurations of these bands are discussed.

High-spin states of 155Gd were populated by using the 154Sm(α,3nγ)155Gd reaction at E
α= 33 MeV. γ-γ coincidence, E
γ singles, excitation function, and the DCO ratios were measured. we have identified three intermediate bands with ΔI= 2 feeding the positive yrast band. The bands are interpreted as such candidate bands that are mixed with the negative-parity
ground state band. This observation can provide a plausible explanation for unusually large population of the positive-parity
yrast band observed in a recent Coulomb excitation.

A nuclear resonance fluorescence experiment on 88Sr has been performed with bremsstrahlung of 6.7 MeV endpoint energy. The γ-ray linear polarisation has been measured with
a EUROBALL CLUSTER detector used as a Compton polarimeter. The results indicate positive parity for the J= 1 state at 4.742
MeV in 88Sr, in contrast to the previous interpretation as a 1− two-phonon (2+
1⊗ 3−
1) state and in conflict with the predictions of the quasiparticle-phonon model. On the basis of such calculations the 1+ state at 3.486 MeV may be considered as the 1+
1 one-phonon state and the very strong 1+
1→ 0+
1 deexcitation as proton spin-flip 2p1/2→ 2p3/2 transition.

13C= 58.5 MeV. γ-γ coincidence, E
γ singles, excitation function, and the DCO ratios were measured. Two rotational bands with signature splitting were populated,
among which the lower-energy band is identified as π 7/2+[404] ⊗ν 5/2+[642] in view of alignment and energy systematics.

The high energy γ-ray emission accompanying the spontaneous fission of 252Cf has been measured in coincidence with individual fission fragments selected by discrete γ-ray transitions. The enhancement
of the γ-ray emission probability in the energy range Eγ= 3–8 MeV has been observed for the fission fragments in the region of nearly symmetric mass splitting, confirming results
reported in previous investigations. The γ-γ coincidence technique employed in the present work clearly demonstrate that the
major contribution to this enhancement is caused by the fission channels where one fragment is near to the N= 82 or Z= 50 shell closures. The high energy γ-ray emission probability does not show any significant dependence on the number of
neutrons emitted in the fission process, supporting the hypothesis that high energy γ-rays are mainly emitted from the fragments
after the neutron evaporation.

The half-lives of the platinum isotopes 189,191,197Pt and of the 4-day isomer in 195mPt have been measured with high precision using the photoactivation technique. The γ-ray activity was counted over several
half-lives with a high-purity germanium detector. The measured half-lives are: T1/2(189Pt) = 12.1 ± 1.5 h; T1/2(191Pt) = 2.862 ± 0.007 d; T1/2(197Pt) = 19.96 ± 0.05 h; T1/2(195mPt) = 4.0104 ± 0.0047 d.

Lifetime measurements of states in nuclei with A=187 and 188 have been performed, using reactions between 155Gd and 36Ar and following the transport of evaporation residues to the focal plane of a gas-filled recoil separator. In a separate
experiment using the 159Tb(32S, 4n) reaction the γ-decay of isomeric levels in 187Tl has been studied using delayed γ-γ coincidence measurements. From observation of their subsequent γ decay, the mean lifetimes
were measured to be 1000 ± 55 ns and 1600 ± 100 ns. Although it was not possible to characterize the isomers completely, they
are proposed as candidates for one-proton, two-neutron excitations. In the course of this study, the decay of an isomer in
188Pb was also observed and its lifetime was measured as 1150 ± 30 ns, and limits of 20–600 ns were placed on the meanlife of
an isomer conjectured in 187Pb.

Excited states of 99Ag were populated via the 50Cr + 58Ni (261 MeV) reaction using the NORDBALL detector array equipped with charged-particle and neutron detector systems for reaction
channel separation. On the basis of the measured γγ-coincidence relations and angular distribution ratios a significantly
extended level scheme has been constructed up to E
x ∼ 7.8 MeV and I = 35/2. The experimental results were described within the framework of the shell model. Candidates for states fully aligned
in the πg
9/2
-3ν(d
5/2, g
7/2)2 valence configuration space were found at 4109 and 6265 keV.

A search for new isomers of nanosecond lifetimes were carried out in 153Eu via the 150Nd(7Li,xnγ) reaction. The single particle angular momentum alignment and dynamical moment of inertia estimated from the experimental
data indicate a configuration change at rotational energy ħω∼ 0.30 MeV. A decrease of B(E2) values is also observed at the
same frequency. An isomeric level is identified at an excitation energy of 3100 keV (Jπ=35/2−) which corresponds to this frequency. The lifetime of the level is found to be 8.6 ± 1.3 nanosecond.

High-spin states in 88Mo were studied using the Gammasphere germanium detector array in conjunction with the Microball CsI(Tl) charged-particle
detector system. Three γ-ray cascades with dynamic moments of inertia showing similar characteristics to superdeformed rotational
bands observed in the neighbouring A= 80 region have been identified and assigned to the nucleus 88Mo. The quadrupole moment of the strongest band, deduced by the Residual Doppler Shift Method, corresponds to a quadrupole
deformation of β2≈ 0.6. This confirms the superdeformed nature of this band. The experimental data are interpreted in the framework of total
routhian surface calculations. All three bands are assigned to two-quasi-particle proton configurations at superdeformed shape.

The decay of the 17 μs isomer of 133Sb was re-investigated experimentally. It was produced by thermal neutron induced fission of 241Pu. Its detection is based on time correlation between fission fragments selected by the LOHENGRIN spectrometer at ILL (Grenoble),
and the γ-rays, and conversion electrons from the isomer. The interpretation of the level scheme is based on shell model calculations,
where empirical two-body matrix elements were employed. The good agreement between theory and experiment suggests that the
isomer is the 21/2+ member of the 2p-1h πg
7/2ν(f
7/2
h
11/2
−1) configuration.

Three new bands in 174Ta have been identified by using the 160Gd(19F,5n) reaction at beam energies of 87 MeV and 96 MeV. Nilsson configurations are assigned to these bands. In the 9/2−[514]p+5/2−[512]n band, the AB neutron crossing occurs at a rotational frequency of 0.30 MeV. This is indicative of the disappearance of the
evidence for a reduction in neutron pair correlations.

Abstact: Multipolarities of γ-rays in 152Nd have been studied by conversion electron measurements in the β− decay of 152Pr. The praseodymium activities were obtained by the thermal neutron fission of 235U and followed with the on-line isotope separator KUR–ISOL. Conversion electrons and γ-rays were measured with a Si(Li) detector
and a HPGe detector, respectively. The two γ-rays, 226 keV and 285 keV, were decided to have the multipolarities of the E1
transition. The spins and parities of the 1600 keV and 1542 keV levels were determined to be 3+ and 2+, respectively.

13/2[642]5/2+ configurations, show anomalous signature-splitting and signature-inversion in the first one, to occur at ħω= 0.24 MeV. A
moderately delayed BC-crossing is anticipated in the second one.

The decay of the neutron–rich isotope 216Bi, produced by proton–induced spallation at the PS Booster–ISOLDE facility, was investigated by β-γγ, αγ coincidence and
spectrum-multiscaling measurements. A new method for reducing isobaric contamination enabled to cover the unknown region “east”
of 208Pb for the isobaric chain A=216. The half-life of the β decay of 216Bi was found as T1/2= 135 ± 5 s. Its decay scheme was extended and the possible shell model configurations are proposed.
