In this paper we provide a generalized version of the Glimm scheme to establish the global existence of weak solutions to the initial-boundary value problem of 2×2 hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with source terms. We extend the methods in [J.B. Goodman, Initial boundary value problem for hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, Ph.D. Dissertation, Stanford University, 1982; J.M. Hong, An extension of Glimm’s method to inhomogeneous strictly hyperbolic systems of conservation laws by “weaker than weak” solutions of the Riemann problem, J. Differential Equations 222 (2006) 515-549] to construct the approximate solutions of Riemann and boundary Riemann problems, which can be adopted as the building block of approximate solutions for our initial-boundary value problem. By extending the results in [J. Glimm, Solutions in the large for nonlinear hyperbolic systems of equations, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 18 (1965) 697-715] and showing the weak convergence of residuals, we obtain stability and consistency of the scheme.  相似文献

We are concerned with the stability of steady multi-wave configurations for the full Euler equations of compressible fluid flow. In this paper, we focus on the stability of steady four-wave configurations that are the solutions of the Riemann problem in the flow direction, consisting of two shocks, one vortex sheet, and one entropy wave, which is one of the core multi-wave configurations for the two-dimensional Euler equations. It is proved that such steady four-wave configurations in supersonic flow are stable in structure globally, even under the BV perturbation of the incoming flow in the flow direction. In order to achieve this, we first formulate the problem as the Cauchy problem (initial value problem) in the flow direction, and then develop a modified Glimm difference scheme and identify a Glimm-type functional to obtain the required BV estimates by tracing the interactions not only between the strong shocks and weak waves, but also between the strong vortex sheet/entropy wave and weak waves. The key feature of the Euler equations is that the reflection coefficient is always less than $1$, when a weak wave of different family interacts with the strong vortex sheet/entropy wave or the shock wave, which is crucial to guarantee that the Glimm functional is decreasing. Then these estimates are employed to establish the convergence of the approximate solutions to a global entropy solution, close to the background solution of steady four-wave configuration.  相似文献

This work investigates the existence of globally Lipschitz continuous solutions to a class of Cauchy problem of quasilinear wave equations. Applying Lax's method and generalized Glimm's method, we construct the approximate solutions of the corresponding perturbed Riemann problem and establish the global existence for the derivatives of solutions. Then, the existence of global Lipschitz continuous solutions can be carried out by showing the weak convergence of residuals for the source term of equation.  相似文献

We construct a generalized solution of the Riemann problem for strictly hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with source terms, and we use this to show that Glimm's method can be used directly to establish the existence of solutions of the Cauchy problem. The source terms are taken to be of the form aG, and this enables us to extend the method introduced by Lax to construct general solutions of the Riemann problem. Our generalized solution of the Riemann problem is “weaker than weak” in the sense that it is weaker than a distributional solution. Thus, we prove that a weak solution of the Cauchy problem is the limit of a sequence of Glimm scheme approximate solutions that are based on “weaker than weak” solutions of the Riemann problem. By establishing the convergence of Glimm's method, it follows that all of the results on time asymptotics and uniqueness for Glimm's method (in the presence of a linearly degenerate field) now apply, unchanged, to inhomogeneous systems.  相似文献

The present paper concerns with the global structure and asymptotic behavior of the discontinuous solutions to flood wave equations. By solving a free boundary problem, we first obtain the global structure and large time behavior of the weak solutions containing two shock waves. For the Cauchy problem with a class of initial data, we use Glimm scheme to obtain a uniform BV estimate both with respect to time and the relaxation parameter. This yields the global existence of BV solution and convergence to the equilibrium equation as the relaxation parameter tends to 0.  相似文献

We deal with a single conservation law with discontinuous convex–concave type fluxes which arise while considering sign changing flux coefficients. The main difficulty is that a weak solution may not exist as the Rankine–Hugoniot condition at the interface may not be satisfied for certain choice of the initial data. We develop the concept of generalized entropy solutions for such equations by replacing the Rankine–Hugoniot condition by a generalized Rankine–Hugoniot condition. The uniqueness of solutions is shown by proving that the generalized entropy solutions form a contractive semi-group in L1L1. Existence follows by showing that a Godunov type finite difference scheme converges to the generalized entropy solution. The scheme is based on solutions of the associated Riemann problem and is neither consistent nor conservative. The analysis developed here enables to treat the cases of fluxes having at most one extrema in the domain of definition completely. Numerical results reporting the performance of the scheme are presented.  相似文献

This work investigates the existence of globally Lipschitz continuous solutions to a class of initial-boundary value problem of quasilinear wave equations. Applying the Lax's method and generalized Glimm's method, we construct the approximate solutions of initial-boundary Riemann problem near the boundary layer and perturbed Riemann problem away from the boundary layer. By showing the weak convergence of residuals for the approximate solutions, we establish the global existence for the derivatives of solutions and obtain the existence of global Lipschitz continuous solutions of the problem.  相似文献

The paper studies the 1-D piston problem of the relativistic Euler equations when the speed of the piston is a perturbation of a constant. A sequence of approximate solutions constructed by a modified Glimm scheme is proved to be convergent to the weak solution (which includes a strong leading shock) to the piston problem. In particular, we give the precise estimates on the reflection of the perturbed waves on the piston and the leading shock. In this paper,we construct a new two-dimensional convergent scheme to solve Cauchy problem of following two-dimensional scalar conservation law{?_tu +?_xf(u) + ?_yg(u) = 0,u(x,y,0) = u_0(x,y).In which initial data can be unbounded.Although the existence and uniqueness of the weak entropy solution are obtained, little is known about how to investigate two-dimensional or higher dimensional conservation law by the schemes based on wave interaction of 2D Riemann solutions and their estimation. So we construct such scheme in our paper and get some new results.  相似文献

We are concerned with global entropy solutions to the relativistic Euler equations for a class of large initial data which involve the interaction of shock waves and rarefaction waves. We first carefully analyze the global behavior of the shock curves, the rarefaction wave curves, and their corresponding inverse curves in the phase plane. Based on these analyses, we use the Glimm scheme to construct global entropy solutions to the relativistic Euler equations for the class of large discontinuous initial data.Received: May 23, 2004  相似文献

This paper deals with a new solution concept for partial differential equations in algebras of generalized functions. Introducing regularized derivatives for generalized functions, we show that the Cauchy problem is wellposed backward and forward in time for every system of linear partial differential equations of evolution type in this sense. We obtain existence and uniqueness of generalized solutions in situations where there is no distributional solution or where even smooth solutions are nonunique. In the case of symmetric hyperbolic systems, the generalized solution has the classical weak solution as macroscopic aspect. Two extensions to nonlinear systems are given: global solutions to quasilinear evolution equations with bounded nonlinearities and local solutions to quasilinear symmetric hyperbolic systems.  相似文献

The Riemann problem for a two-dimensional nonstrictly hyperbolic system of conservation laws is considered. Without the restriction that each jump of the initial data projects one planar elementary wave, ten topologically distinct solutions are obtained by applying the method of generalized characteristic analysis. Some of these solutions involve the nonclassical waves, i.e., the delta shock wave and the delta contact discontinuity, for which we explicitly give the expressions of their strengths, locations and propagation speeds. Moreover, we demonstrate that the nature of our solutions is identical with that of solutions to the corresponding one-dimensional Cauchy problem, which provides a verification that our construction produces the correct unique global solutions.  相似文献

We establish a general existence theory for the Cauchy problem associated with a scalar conservation law in one-space dimension. The flux-function is assumed to be nonconvex and we consider nonclassical entropy solutions selected by a kinetic relation. To solve the Cauchy problem, we construct a sequence of approximate solutions using a wave-front tracking scheme. The main difficulty is deriving a uniform estimate on the total variation of the approximate solutions. This is achieved here by introducing a generalized total variation functional, which is decreasing in time and, additionally, reduces to the standard total variation functional when the solutions contain only classical shocks. This functional seems sufficiently robust to be useful for systems as well.Received: June 3, 2002; revised: November 12, 2002  相似文献

The approach based on the construction of some nonlinear functionals was proved to be robust in the study of the well-posedness theories of hyperbolic conservation laws, especially in one space dimensional case. In particular, a generalized entropy functional was constructed in [T.-P. Liu, T. Yang, A new entropy functional for scalar conservation laws, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 52 (1999) 1427-1442] for the L1 stability of weak solutions. However, this generalized functional is so far only defined for scalar equations with convex flux function. In this paper, we introduce a new nonlinear functional which is motivated by the new Glimm functional introduced in [J.-L. Hua, Z.-H. Jiang, T. Yang, A new Glimm functional and convergence rate of Glimm scheme for general systems of hyperbolic conservation laws, preprint] for general scalar conservation laws. This functional improves the one given in [H.-X. Liu, T. Yang, A nonlinear functional for general scalar hyperbolic conservation laws, J. Differential Equations 235 (2) (2007) 658-667] and it can be viewed as a better attempt for the generalized entropy functional for general equations.  相似文献

In this paper, we solve the Riemann problem with the initial data containing Dirac delta functions for a class of coupled hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. Under suitably generalized Rankine–Hugoniot relation and entropy condition, the existence and uniqueness of solutions involving delta shock waves are proved. Further, four kinds of different structure for solutions are established uniquely.  相似文献

In this paper, the author proves the global structure stability of the Lax's Riemann solution , containing only shocks and contact discontinuities, of general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws. More precisely, the author proves the global existence and uniqueness of the piecewise C1 solution u=u(t,x) of a class of generalized Riemann problem, which can be regarded as a perturbation of the corresponding Riemann problem, for the quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws; moreover, this solution has a global structure similar to that of the solution . Combining the results in Kong (Global structure instability of Riemann solutions of quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws: rarefaction waves, to appear), the author proves that the Lax's Riemann solution of general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws is globally structurally stable if and only if it contains only non-degenerate shocks and contact discontinuities, but no rarefaction waves and other weak discontinuities.  相似文献

We prove the asymptotic stability of nonplanar two-states Riemann solutions in BGK approximations of a class of multidimensional systems of conservation laws. The latter consists of systems whose flux-functions in different directions share a common complete system of Riemann invariants, the level surfaces of which are hyperplanes. The asymptotic stability to which the main result refers is in the sense of the convergence as t→∞ in of the space of directions ζ=x/t. That is, the solution z(t,x,ξ) of the perturbed Cauchy problem for the corresponding BGK system satisfies as t→∞, in , where R(ζ) is the self-similar entropy solution of the two-states nonplanar Riemann problem for the system of conservation laws.  相似文献

In this paper, concerned with the Cauchy problem for 2D nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws, we construct a class of uniformly second order accurate finite difference schemes, which are based on the E-schemes. By applying the convergence theorem of Coquel-Le Floch [1], the family of approximate solutions defined by the scheme is proven to converge to the unique entropy weak $L^{\infty}$-solution. Furthermore, some numerical experiments on the Cauchy problem for the advection equation and the Riemann problem for the 2D Burgers equation are given and the relatively satisfied result is obtained.  相似文献

In this article, we give the existence of global L bounded entropy solutions to the Cauchy problem of a generalized n × n hyperbolic system of LeRoux type. The main difficulty lies in establishing some compactness estimates of the viscosity solutions because the system has been generalized from 2 × 2 to n × n and more linearly degenerate characteristic fields emerged, and the emergence of singularity in the region {v1=0} is another difficulty. We obtain the existence of the global weak solutions using the compensated compactness method coupled with the construction of entropy-entropy flux and BV estimates on viscous solutions.  相似文献

This paper addresses the analysis of dynamical systems generated by doubly nonlinear evolution equations governed by subdifferential operators with non-monotone perturbations in a reflexive Banach space setting. In order to construct global attractors, an approach based on the notion of generalized semiflow is employed instead of the usual semigroup approach, since solutions of the Cauchy problem for the equation might not be unique. Moreover, the preceding abstract theory is applied to a generalized Allen-Cahn equation as well as a semilinear parabolic equation with a nonlinear term involving gradients.  相似文献
