We study boundary-contact problems for elliptic equations (and systems) with interfaces that have edge singularities. Such problems represent continuous operators between weighted edge spaces and subspaces with asymptotics. Ellipticity is formulated in terms of a principal symbolic hierarchy, containing interior, transmission, and edge symbols. We construct parametrices, show regularity with asymptotics of solutions in weighted edge spaces and illustrate the results by boundary-contact problems for the Laplacian with jumping coefficients.  相似文献

We study boundary-contact problems for elliptic equations (and systems) with interfaces that have conical singularities. Such problems represent continuous operators between weighted Sobolev spaces and subspaces with asymptotics. Ellipticity is formulated in terms of extra transmission conditions along the interfaces with a control of the conormal symbolic structure near conical singularities. We show regularity and asymptotics of solutions in weighted spaces, and we construct parametrices. The result will be illustrated by a number of explicit examples.  相似文献

Ellipticity of a manifold with edges and boundary is connected to boundary and edge conditions that complete corresponding operators to Fredholm operators between weighted Sobolev spaces. We study a new parameter-dependent calculus of elliptic operators, where the interior symbols have specific properties on the boundary. We construct elliptic operators with a prescribed number of edge conditions and obtain isomorphisms in the scale of edge Sobolev spaces. We study pseudo-differential operators on a cylinder where B has conical singularities. Configurations of that kind are the local model of corner singularities with cross section B. Operators in our calculus are assumed to have symbols a which are meromorphic in the complex covariable with values in the algebra of all cone operators on B. We show an explicit formula for solutions of the homogeneous equation if a is independent of the axial variable Each non-bijectivity point of the symbol in the complex plane corresponds to a finite-dimensional space of solutions. Moreover, we give a relative index formula.  相似文献

We investigate the ideal of Green and Mellin operators with asymptotics for a manifold with edge‐corner singularities and boundary which belongs to the structure of parametrices of elliptic boundary value problems on a configuration with corners whose base manifolds have edges. We combine the calculus of conormal distributions, in particular the Pull‐Back and Push‐Forward Theorems, with the method of layer potentials to solve the Dirichlet and Neumann problems on half‐spaces. We obtain full asymptotic expansions for the solutions, show that boundary layer potential operators are elements of the full b‐calculus and give a new proof of the classical jump relations. En route, we improve Siegel and Talvila's growth estimates for the modified layer potentials in the case of polyhomogeneous boundary data. The techniques we use here can be generalised to geometrically more complex settings, as for instance the exterior domain of touching domains or domains with fibred cusps. This work is intended to be a first step in a longer program aiming at understanding the method of layer potentials in the setting of certain non‐Lipschitz singularities that can be resolved in the sense of Melrose using manifolds with corners and at applying a matching asymptotics ansatz to singular perturbations of related problems.  相似文献

Boundary value problems for (pseudo-) differential operators on a manifold with edges can be characterised by a hierarchy of symbols. The symbolic structure is responsible for ellipticity and for the nature of parametrices within an algebra of “edge-degenerate” pseudo-differential operators. The edge symbolic component of that hierarchy takes values in boundary value problems on an infinite model cone, with edge variables and covariables as parameters. Edge symbols play a crucial role in this theory, in particular, the contribution with holomorphic operator-valued Mellin symbols. We establish a calculus in a framework of “twisted homogeneity” that refers to strongly continuous groups of isomorphisms on weighted cone Sobolev spaces. We then derive an equivalent representation with a particularly transparent composition behaviour.  相似文献

The computation of a stable homotopic classification of elliptic operators is an important problem of elliptic theory. The classical solution of this problem is given by Atiyah and Singer for the case of smooth compact manifolds. It is formulated in terms of K-theory for a cotangent fibering of the given manifold. It cannot be extended for the case of nonsmooth manifolds because their cotangent fiberings do not contain all necessary information. Another Atiyah definition might fit in such a case: it is based on the concept of abstract elliptic operators and is given in term of K-homologies of the manifold itself (instead of its fiberings). Indeed, this theorem is recently extended for manifolds with conic singularities, ribs, and general so-called stratified manifolds: it suffices just to replace the phrase “smooth manifold” by the phrase “stratified manifold” (of the corresponding class). Thus, stratified manifolds is a strange phenomenon in a way: the algebra of symbols of differential (pseudodifferential) operators is quite noncommutative on such manifolds (the symbol components corresponding to strata of positive codimensions are operator-valued functions), but the solution of the classification problem can be found in purely geometric terms. In general, it is impossible for other classes of nonsmooth manifolds. In particular, the authors recently found that, for manifolds with angles, the classification is given by a K-group of a noncommutative C* -algebra and it cannot be reduced to a commutative algebra if normal fiberings of faces of the considered manifold are nontrivial. Note that the proofs are based on noncommutative geometry (more exactly, the K-theory of C* -algebras) even in the case of stratified manifolds though the results are “classical.” In this paper, we provide a review of the abovementioned classification results for elliptic operators on manifolds with singularities and corresponding methods of noncommutative geometry (in particular, the localization principle in C* -algebras).  相似文献

A sub‐calculus of the calculus (“algebra”) of all complete conormal symbols arising in the edge pseudodifferential calculus is constructed. This calculus of complete conormal symbols is suitable for constructing sub‐calculi of the general edge pseudodifferential calculus, for which the edge‐degenerate pseudodifferential operators involved map conormal asymptotics of distributions near the edges in a prescribed manner. We introduce the algebra of smoothing Mellin and Green symbols in a pseudodifferential calculus for manifolds with edges. In addition, we define scales of weighted Sobolev spaces with asymptotics based on the Mellin transform and analyze the mapping properties of the operators on these spaces. This will allow us to obtain complete information on the regularity and asymptotics of solutions to elliptic equations on these spaces.  相似文献

For general elliptic pseudodifferential operators on manifolds with singular points, we prove an algebraic index formula. In this formula the symbolic contributions from the interior and from the singular points are explicitly singled out. For two-dimensional manifolds, the interior contribution is reduced to the Atiyah-Singer integral over the cosphere bundle while two additional terms arise. The first of the two is one half of the "eta" invariant associated to the conormal symbol of the operator at singular points. The second term is also completely determined by the conormal symbol. The example of the Cauchy-Riemann operator on the complex plane shows that all the three terms may be nonzero. Moreover, we introduce a natural symmetry condition for a pseudodifferential operator on a manifold with cylindrical ends ensuring that the operator admits a doubling across the boundary. For such operators we prove an explicit index formula containing, apart from the Atiyah-Singer integral, a finite number of residues of the logarithmic derivative of the conormal symbol.  相似文献

We discuss algebraic properties for the symbols of geometric first order differential operators on Kähler manifolds. Through a study of the universal enveloping algebra and higher Casimir elements, we know a lot of relations for the symbols, which induce Bochner identities for the operators. As applications, we have vanishing theorems, eigenvalue estimates, and so on.  相似文献

We are interested in the following question: when regularity properties of a linear differential operator imply solvability of its transpose in the sense of Gevrey ultradistributions? This question is studied for a class of abstract operators that contains the usual differential operators with real‐analytic coefficients. We obtain a new proof of a global result on compact manifolds (global Gevrey hypoellipticity implying global solvability of the transpose), as well as some results in the non‐compact case by means of the so‐called property of non‐confinement of singularities. We provide applications to Hörmander operators, to operators of constant strength and to locally integrable systems of vector fields. We also analyze a conjecture stated in a recent paper of Malaspina and Nicola, which asserts that, in differential complexes naturally arising from locally integrable structures, local solvability in the sense of ultradistributions implies local solvability in the sense of distributions. We establish the validity of the conjecture when the cotangent structure bundle is spanned by the differential of a single first integral.  相似文献

We consider elliptic operators on stratified manifolds with stratification of arbitrary length. Under some (symmetry-like) conditions imposed on the symbols of these operators, we obtain index formulas in which the index of an operator is expressed as the sum of indices of some (explicitly written out) elliptic operators on the strata.  相似文献

Given asymptotics types P, Q, pseudodifferential operators are constructed in such a way that if u(t) possesses conormal asymptotics of type P as t +0, then Au(t) possesses conormal asymptotics of type Q as t +0. This is achieved by choosing the operators A in Schulzes cone algebra on the half-line , controlling their complete Mellin symbols { }, and prescribing the mapping properties of the residual Green operators. The constructions lead to a coordinate invariant calculus, including trace and potential operators at t = 0, in which a parametrix construction for the elliptic elements is possible. Boutet de Monvels calculus for pseudodifferential boundary problems occurs as a special case when P = Q is the type resulting from Taylor expansion at t = 0.  相似文献

We are concerned here with the eigenvalue asymptotics for a non-selfadjoint elliptic boundary problem involving an indefinite weight function which vanishes on a set of positive measure. The asymptotic behaviour of the eigenvalues is well known for the case of second order operators. However for higher order operators, results have only been established under the restriction that the order of the operator exceeds the dimension of the underlying Euclidean space in which the problem is set. In this paper we establish the eigenvalue asymptotics for the case of higher order operators without any such restriction.Supported in part by the John Knopfmacher Centre for Applicable Analysis and Number Theory, University of the Witwatersrand.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce weighted p-Sobolev spaces on manifolds with edge singularities. We give the proof for the corresponding edge type Sobolev inequality, Poincaré inequality and Hardy inequality. As an application of these inequalities, we prove the existence of nontrivial weak solutions for the Dirichlet problem of semilinear elliptic equations with singular potentials on manifolds with edge singularities.  相似文献

We generalize the Donsker-Varadhan minimax formula for the principal eigenvalue of a uniformly elliptic operator in nondivergence form to the first principal half-eigenvalue of a fully nonlinear operator which is concave (or convex) and positively homogeneous. Examples of such operators include the Bellman operator and the Pucci extremal operators. In the case that the two principal half-eigenvalues are not equal, we show that the measures which achieve the minimum in this formula provide a partial characterization of the solvability of the corresponding Dirichlet problem at resonance.  相似文献

In this paper we prove new Hardy-like inequalities with optimal potential singularities for functions in W1,p(Ω), where Ω is either bounded or the whole space and also some extensions to arbitrary Riemannian manifolds. We also study the spectrum of perturbed Schr?dinger operators for perturbations which are just below the optimality threshold for the corresponding Hardy inequality.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to some of the properties of uniformly elliptic differential operators with bounded coefficients on manifolds of bounded geometry in L pspaces. We prove the coincidence of minimal and maximal extensions of an operator of a considered type with a positive principal symbol, the existence of holomorphic semigroup, generated by it, and the estimates of L p-norms of the operators of this semigroup. Some spectral properties of such operators in L pspaces are also studied.  相似文献
