In this article we study Drinfeld modular curves X0(pn) associated to congruence subgroups Γ0(pn) of GL(2,Fq[T]) where p is a prime of Fq[T]. For n>r>0 we compute the extension degrees and investigate the structure of the Galois closures of the covers X0(pn)→X0(pr) and some of their variations. The results have some immediate implications for the Galois closures of two well-known optimal wild towers of function fields over finite fields introduced by Garcia and Stichtenoth, for which the modular interpretation was given by Elkies.  相似文献

We prove the path sum formula for computing the U(n) invariant denominator functions associated to stretched U(n) Wigner operators. A family of U(n) invariant polynomials G[λ](n) is then defined which generalize the μGq(n) polynomials previously studied. The G[λ](n) polynomials are shown to satisfy a number of difference equations and have symmetry properties similar to the μGq(n) polynomials. We also give a direct proof of the important transposition symmetry for the G[λ](n) polynomials. To enable the non-specialist to understand the foundations for these remarkable polynomials, we provide an exposition of the boson calculus and the construction of the multiplicity-free U(n) Wigner operators.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the Fu?ik spectrum of the problem: (*) ?+(λ++q+(t))x++(λ+q(t))x=0 with the 2π-periodic boundary condition, where q±(t) are 2π-periodic. After introducing a rotation number function ρ(λ+, λ) for (*), we prove using the Hamiltonian structure and the positive homogeneity of (*) that for any positive integer n, the two boundary curves of the domain ρ−1(n/2) in the (λ+, λ)-plane are Fu?ik curves of (*). The result obtained in this paper shows that such a spectrum problem is much like that of the higher dimensional Fu?ik spectrum with the Dirichlet condition. In particular, it remains open if the Fu?ik spectrum of (*) is composed of only these curves.  相似文献

The prime graph of a finite group G is denoted by Γ(G). In this paper as the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G has a unique nonabelian composition factor isomorphic to F 4(q). We also show that if G is a finite group satisfying |G| = |F 4(q)| and Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G @ F4(q){G \cong F_4(q)}. As a consequence of our result we give a new proof for a conjecture of Shi and Bi for F 4(q) where q = 2 n  > 2.  相似文献

This is a continuation of our previous work. We classify all the simple ?q(D n )-modules via an automorphismh defined on the set { λ | Dλ ≠ 0}. Whenf n(q) ≠ 0, this yields a classification of all the simple ? q (D n)- modules for arbitrary n. In general ( i. e., q arbitrary), if λ(1) = λ(2),wegivea necessary and sufficient condition ( in terms of some polynomials ) to ensure that the irreducible ?q,1(B n )- module Dλ remains irreducible on restriction to ?q(D n ).  相似文献

We consider Hill's equation y″+(λq)y=0 where qL1[0,π]. We show that if ln—the length of the n-th instability interval—is of order O(n−(k+2)) then the real Fourier coefficients ank,bnk of q(k)k-th derivative of q—are of order O(n−2), which implies that q(k) is absolutely continuous almost everywhere for k=0,1,2,….  相似文献

Let F be a field, n a non-negative integer, λ a partition of n and Sλ the corresponding Specht module for the Iwahori-Hecke algebra HF,q(Sn). James and Mathas conjecture a necessary and sufficient condition on λ for Sλ to be irreducible. We prove the sufficiency of this condition in the case where F has infinite characteristic and also in the case where q=1.  相似文献

We introduce the distribution function Fn(q,t) of a pair of statistics on Catalan words and conjecture Fn(q,t) equals Garsia and Haiman's q,t-Catalan sequence Cn(q,t), which they defined as a sum of rational functions. We show that Fn,s(q,t), defined as the sum of these statistics restricted to Catalan words ending in s ones, satisfies a recurrence relation. As a corollary we are able to verify that Fn(q,t)=Cn(q,t) when t=1/q. We also show the partial symmetry relation Fn(q,1)=Fn(1,q). By modifying a proof of Haiman of a q-Lagrange inversion formula based on results of Garsia and Gessel, we obtain a q-analogue of the general Lagrange inversion formula which involves Catalan words grouped according to the number of ones at the end of the word.  相似文献

A single serving queueing model is studied where potential customers are discouraged at the rate λn = λqn, 0 < q < 1, n is the queue length. The serving rate is μn = μ(1 ? qn), n = 0, 1,…. The spectral function is computed and the corresponding set of orthogonal polynomials is studied in detail. The slightly more general model with λn = λqn(1 + bqn), μn = μ(1 ? qn)(1 + bqn) and the analogous orthogonal polynomials are also investigated. In both cases a method developed by Pollaczek is used which has been used very successfully to study new sets of orthogonal polynomials by Askey and Ismail.  相似文献

Let F ⊂ K be fields of characteristic 0, and let K[x] denote the ring of polynomials with coefficients in K. Let p(x) = ∑k = 0nakxk ∈ K[x], an ≠ 0. For p ∈ K[x]\F[x], define DF(p), the F deficit of p, to equal n − max{0 ≤ k ≤ n : akF}. For p ∈ F[x], define DF(p) = n. Let p(x) = ∑k = 0nakxk and let q(x) = ∑j = 0mbjxj, with an ≠ 0, bm ≠ 0, anbm ∈ F, bjF for some j ≥ 1. Suppose that p ∈ K[x], q ∈ K[x]\F[x], p, not constant. Our main result is that p ° q ∉ F[x] and DF(p ° q) = DF(q). With only the assumption that anbm ∈ F, we prove the inequality DF(p ° q) ≥ DF(q). This inequality also holds if F and K are only rings. Similar results are proven for fields of finite characteristic with the additional assumption that the characteristic of the field does not divide the degree of p. Finally we extend our results to polynomials in two variables and compositions of the form p(q(xy)), where p is a polynomial in one variable.  相似文献

Let Fq denote the finite field of order q, a power of a prime p, and n be a positive integer. We resolve completely the question of whether there exists a primitive element of Fqn which is such that it and its reciprocal both have zero trace over Fq. Trivially, there is no such element when n<5: we establish existence for all pairs (q, n) (n5) except (4, 5), (2, 6), and (3, 6). Equivalently, with the same exceptions, there is always a primitive polynomial P(x) of degree n over Fq whose coefficients of x and of xn-1 are both zero. The method employs Kloosterman sums and a sieving technique.  相似文献

We show that a maximal curve over Fq2 given by an equation A(X)=F(Y), where A(X)∈Fq2[X] is additive and separable and where F(Y)∈Fq2[Y] has degree m prime to the characteristic p, is such that all roots of A(X) belong to Fq2. In the particular case where F(Y)=Ym, we show that the degree m is a divisor of q+1.  相似文献

We present here a proof that a certain rational function Cn(q,t) which has come to be known as the “q,t-Catalan” is in fact a polynomial with positive integer coefficients. This has been an open problem since 1994. The precise form of the conjecture is given in Garsia and Haiman (J. Algebraic Combin. 5(3) (1996) 191), where it is further conjectured that Cn(q,t) is the Hilbert series of the diagonal harmonic alternants in the variables (x1,x2,…,xn;y1,y2,…,yn). Since Cn(q,t) evaluates to the Catalan number at t=q=1, it has also been an open problem to find a pair of statistics a(π),b(π) on Dyck paths π in the n×n square yielding Cn(q,t)=∑πta(π)qb(π). Our proof is based on a recursion for Cn(q,t) suggested by a pair of statistics a(π),b(π) recently proposed by Haglund. Thus, one of the byproducts of our developments is a proof of the validity of Haglund's conjecture. It should also be noted that our arguments rely and expand on the plethystic machinery developed in Bergeron et al. (Methods and Applications of Analysis, Vol. VII(3), 1999, p. 363).  相似文献

The dimension of a combinatorial design ${{\mathcal D}}$ over a finite field F = GF(q) was defined in (Tonchev, Des Codes Cryptogr 17:121–128, 1999) as the minimum dimension of a linear code over F that contains the blocks of ${{\mathcal D}}$ as supports of nonzero codewords. There it was proved that, for any prime power q and any integer n ≥ 2, the dimension over F of a design ${{\mathcal D}}$ that has the same parameters as the complement of a classical point-hyperplane design PG n-1(n, q) or AG n-1(n, q) is greater than or equal to n + 1, with equality if and only if ${{\mathcal D}}$ is isomorphic to the complement of the classical design. It is the aim of the present paper to generalize this Hamada type characterization of the classical point-hyperplane designs in terms of associated codes over F = GF(q) to a characterization of all classical geometric designs PG d (n, q), where 1 ≤ dn ? 1, in terms of associated codes defined over some extension field E?=?GF(q t ) of F. In the affine case, we conjecture an analogous result and reduce this to a purely geometric conjecture concerning the embedding of simple designs with the parameters of AG d (n, q) into PG(n, q). We settle this problem in the affirmative and thus obtain a Hamada type characterization of AG d (n, q) for d = 1 and for d > (n ? 2)/2.  相似文献

Let F1(x, y),…, F2h+1(x, y) be the representatives of equivalent classes of positive definite binary quadratic forms of discriminant ?q (q is a prime such that q ≡ 3 mod 4) with integer coefficients, then the number of integer solutions of Fi(x, y) = n (i = 1,…, 2h + 1) can be calculated for each natural number n using L-functions of imaginary quadratic field Q((?q)1/2).  相似文献

As the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(2 F 4(q)), where q = 22m+1 for some m ≧ 1, then G has a unique nonabelian composition factor isomorphic to 2 F 4(q). We also show that if G is a finite group satisfying |G| =|2 F 4(q)| and Γ(G) = Γ(2 F 4(q)), then G2 F 4(q). As a consequence of our result we give a new proof for a conjecture of W. Shi and J. Bi for 2 F 4(q). The third author was supported in part by a grant from IPM (No. 87200022).  相似文献

In this paper, we establish some relationships between the circuits of the connection-graph GC(F), and the circuits of theiteration-graph G1(F), of a monotone boolean function F. We first show that if G1(F) contains an element circuit of length multiple of p? {2,3}, then GC(F) contains an elementary circuit of length multiple of p; then we prove that if GC(F) is a subgraph of a caterpillar, then G1(F) is a subgraph of a tree; at last we exhibit an infinite family of monotone boolean functions {Fn; n = 2 × 5q, q ≥ 1} such that any GC(Fn) is a subgraph of a tree, and G1(Fn) contains a circuit of length 2q+1, i.e., of the order nlog2log5.  相似文献

Let f be a holomorphic cusp form of weight k for SL2(Z) and λf(n) its n-th Fourier coefficient. In this paper, the exponential sum Xn 2X λf(n)e(αnβ) twisted by Fourier coefficients λf(n) is proved toh ave a main term of size |λf(q)|X3/4 when β = 1/2 and α is close to ±2√q,q ∈ Z,and is smaller otherwise for β 3/4.This is a manifestation of the resonance spectrum of automorphic forms for SL2(Z).  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues the Sturm-Liouville operator Ly = ?y″ + q(x)y with potentials from the Sobolev space W 2 θ?1 , θ ≥ 0, including the nonclassical case θ ∈ [0, 1) in which the potential is a distribution. The results are obtained in new terms. Let s 2k (q) = λ k 1/2 (q) ? k, s 2k?1(q) = μ k 1/2 (q) ? k ? 1/2, where {λ k } 1 and {μ k } 1 are the sequences of eigenvalues of the operator L generated by the Dirichlet and Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions, respectively,. We construct special Hilbert spaces t 2 θ such that the mapping F:W 2 θ?1 t 2 θ defined by the equality F(q) = {s n } 1 is well defined for all θ ≥ 0. The main result is as follows: for θ > 0, the mapping F is weakly nonlinear, i.e., can be expressed as F(q) = Uq + Φ(q), where U is the isomorphism of the spaces W 2 θ?1 and t 2 θ , and Φ(q) is a compact mapping. Moreover, we prove the estimate ∥Ф(q)∥τCqθ?1, where the exact value of τ = τ(θ) > θ ? 1 is given and the constant C depends only on the radius of the ball ∥qθ?R, but is independent of the function q varying in this ball.  相似文献

For two given graphs F and H, the Ramsey number R(F,H) is the smallest positive integer p such that for every graph G on p vertices the following holds: either G contains F as a subgraph or the complement of G contains H as a subgraph. In this paper, we study the Ramsey numbers R(Pn,Fm), where Pn is a path on n vertices and Fm is the graph obtained from m disjoint triangles by identifying precisely one vertex of every triangle (Fm is the join of K1 and mK2). We determine the exact values of R(Pn,Fm) for the following values of n and m: 1?n?5 and m?2; n?6 and 2?m?(n+1)/2; 6?n?7 and m?n-1; n?8 and n-1?m?n or ((q·n-2q+1)/2?m?(q·n-q+2)/2 with 3?q?n-5) or m?(n-3)2/2; odd n?9 and ((q·n-3q+1)/2?m?(q·n-2q)/2 with 3?q?(n-3)/2) or ((q·n-q-n+4)/2?m?(q·n-2q)/2 with (n-1)/2?q?n-5). Moreover, we give nontrivial lower bounds and upper bounds for R(Pn,Fm) for the other values of m and n.  相似文献
