We derive a finite-size scaling representation for the partition function for an Onsager-Temperley string model with a wetting transition, and analyze the zeros of this partition function in the complex scaled coupling parameter of relevance. The system models the one-dimensional interface between two phases in a rectangular two-dimensional region (x, y) 2,–L yL,oxN. The two phases are at coexistence. The string or interface has a surface tension 2KkT per unit length and an extra Boltzmann weighta per unit length if it touches the surfaces aty=±L. There is a critical valuea c=1/2K and fora>a c the string is confined to one of the surfaces, while fora a c the string moves roughly in the rectangular region. The finite-size scaling parameters are =a c 2 N/L 2 and =L(a–a c)/a c 2 . We find that for || large, the zeros of the scaled partition function lie close to the lines arg()=±/4 with re()>0. We discuss the motion of all the zeros as changes by both analytic and numerical arguments.  相似文献

Mori's scaling method is used to derive the kinetic equation for a dilute, nonuniform electron plasma in the kinetic region where the space-time cutoff (b, t c) satisfies Dbl f , D t c f , with D the Debye length, D –1= p the plasma frequency, andl f and f the mean free path and time, respectively. The kinetic equation takes account of the nonuniformity of the order ofl f and D for the single-and the two-particle distribution function, respectively. Thus the Vlasov term associated with the two-particle distribution function is retained. This kinetic equation is deduced from the kinetic equation in the coherent region obtained by Morita, Mori, and Tokuyama, where the space-time cutoff of the coherent region satisfies Dbr 0, Dt c 0, withr 0 the Landau length and 0 the corresponding time scale.  相似文献

Based on the (relativistic) Maxwell equations with displacement current E/t, the initial-boundary-value problem for the compression of an initially homogeneous magnetic fieldB={0,B(x,t),0} between a fixed liner atx=0 and a detonation-driven liner atx=s(t) is solved analytically. By homogenizing the boundary conditions at the moving boundary, the transient electromagnetic fields are shown to be a superposition of quasistatic elliptic (E/t=0) and hyperbolic (E/t0) wave solutions. The wave equation is solved by a Fourier expansion in time-dependent eigenfunctionsf n =f n [nx/s(t)] for the variable region 0xs(t), where the Fourier amplitudes n (t) are determined by coupled differential equations of second order. It is concluded that the conventional elliptic flux compression theories (E/t=0) hold approximately for nonrelativistic liner speeds , whereas the hyperbolic theory (E/t0) is valid for arbitrary liner speeds .  相似文献

We consider some models of classical statistical mechanics which admit an investigation by means of the theory of dominant ground states. Our models are related to the Gibbs ensemble for the multidimensional SOS model with symmetric constraints x m/2. The main result is that for 0, where 0 does not depend onm, the structure of thermodynamic phases in the model is determined by dominant ground states: for an evenm a Gibbs state is unique and for an oddm the number of space-periodic pure Gibbs states is two.  相似文献

The rocking curves of Ge (111), (220), (333) for CuK 1 radiation were measured by means of the triple-crystal diffractometer. Perfect silicon single crystals, cut parallel to the (111) plane were used in the monochromator part of the triple-crystal diffractometer. The results prove the suitability of such a monochromator for studying diffraction patterns.

The first part of the paper gives a general equation for triple-crystal arrangement with perfect crystals on the assumption that the third crystal is rotated. It is shown that in the case of perfect crystals the shape of the reflection curve is practically independent of the vertical divergence. The case of mosaic crystals is also solved and the possibility of rotation by other than the third crystal is considered. A method is proposed for investigating the imperfection of a crystal which is different from methods used up to now. The paper is supplemented by some experimental results.

We investigate the electronic structure of the ferromagnetic 4f-metal Gadolinium by use of a many-body evaluation of a generalized model of magnetism, the one-particle part of which is derived from an ASW-LSDA bandstructure calculation. A striking temperature-dependence of the conduction band states is traced back to a 4f-(5d, 6s) interband exchange. The conduction electron polarization (0.63 B atT=0) decreases forTT c very similar to the 4f-magnetization. A red shift of the lower -band edge of about 0.25 eV appears upon cooling fromT=T c toT=0. — The quasiparticle band-structure exibits a remarkable non uniform magnetic behaviour at different positions in the Brillouin zone, and in particular for different subbands. Weakly correlated (s-like) dispersions show a Stoner-likeT-dependence of the exchange splitting. On the other hand, stronger correlated (d-like) dispersions split belowT c into four branches, two for each spin direction. TheirT-dependence mainly concerns the spectral weights of the quasiparticle peaks and not so much the energetic positions. An exchange caused splitting remains even forT<T c .  相似文献

An unorthodox cosmology is based on a notion of standpoint, distinguishing past from future, realized through Hilbert-space representation of the complex conformai group for 3+1spacetime and associated coherent states. Physical (approximate) symmetry attaches to eight-parameter complex Poincaré displacements, interpretable as growth of standpoint age (one parameter), boost of matter energy-momentum in standpoint rest frame (three parameters) and displacement of matter location in a compact U(1)O(4)/O(3) spacetime attached to standpoint (four parameters). An initial condition (at big bang) is characterized by a huge dimensionless parameter that breaks dilation invariance. Four major length scales are recognized, called Planck, particle, lab, and Hubble, with separations controlled by ; all physical concepts, including spacetime, depend on wideness of scale separation.  相似文献

The change in integrated intensity of the (200) reflections of a solid solution during the formation of G.P. zones was measured and compared with the change in the character of the diffuse streaks corresponding to them. It was found that the. formation of G.P. zones does not lead to a decrease in primary extinction despite the great changes in the distribution of the copper atoms. It was shown that the formation of a precipitate accompanied by the formation of crystallographically incoherent boundaries greatly decreases the primary extinction.

For a -dimensional system of particles with the two-body potentialq(r)+ v K(r) and density , it is proved under fairly weak conditions onq andK that the canonical pressure (, ) and chemical potential (, ) tend to definite limits when 0. The limiting functions are absolutely continuous and are given in terms of the derivative of the limiting free energy density which was found in Part I.  相似文献

The paper gives the results of measuring ferromagnetic resonance on thin cobalt films, vacuum deposited on unheated glass slides. The values of the (g-factor, the width of the curve, the effective stress and uniaxial induced anisotropy were determined as a function of the thickness of the film from measurements of the ferromagnetic absorption in a magnetic field normal and parallel to the surface of the film. Measurements were carried out on a frequency of 9200 MHz and on film thicknesses of 180 to 1800 Å. A qualitative explanation of the observed dependences is given.

We derive the hydrodynamic (Euler) approximation for the harmonic time evolution of infinite classical oscillator system on one-dimensional lattice 1 It is known that equilibrium (i.e., time-invariant attractive) states for this model are translationally invariant Gaussian ones, with the mean 0, which satisfy some linear relations involving the interaction quadratic form. The natural parameter characterizing equilibrium states is the spectral density matrix function (SDMF)F(), [– , ). Time evolution of a space profile of local equilibrium parameters is described by a space-time SDMFF(t;x, ) t, xR 1. The hydrodynamic equation forF(t; x, ) which we derive in this paper means that the normal mode profiles indexed by are moving according to linear laws and are mutually independent. The procedure of deriving the hydrodynamic equation is the following: We fix an initial SDMF profileF(x, ) and a familyP ,>0 of mean 0 states which satisfy the two conditions imposed on the covariance of spins at various lattice points: (a) the covariance at points close to the value –1 x in the stateP is approximately described by the SDMFF(x, ); (b) The covariance (on large distances) decreases with distance quickly enough and uniformly in. Given nonzerotR 1, we consider the states P –1 ,>0, describing the system at the time moments –1 t during its harmonic time evolution. We check that the covariance at lattice points close to –1 x in the state P –1 is approximately described by a SDMFF(t;x, ) and establish the connection betweenF(t; x, ) andF(x,).  相似文献

The time evolution of a damped quantum particle is discussed. Dissipation is modeled by the bilinear coupling to a set of harmonic oscillators. Using a functional integral technique that accounts for initial correlations between the particle and the reservoir, one can express the dynamics of the damped particle entirely in terms of equilibrium correlation functions. The long-time behavior of these correlations is determined for memory damping arising from the coupling to a reservoir with spectral densityI() at low frequencies, where > 0. The time evolution of nonequilibrium initial states of the damped particle is discussed. At finite temperatures an initially localized state is found to spread subdiffusively or superdiffusively, depending on . For > 2 the damping becomes ineffective for long times, and the width of a state grows kinematically. At zero temperature and for < 1, an initially localized state remains localized for all times. For 1 the state spreads, but with a slower rate than at finite temperatures. Study of arbitrary initial states indicates that the process is ergodic at finite temperatures only for 2 and at zero temperature for 1 2.  相似文献

The Brownian motion of adsorbed particles is described in terms of the first four velocity moments of the distribution function (number density, momentum density, energy density and energy current density). The resulting hydrodynamic equations turn out to be sufficient for a simple derivation and extension of Kramers' results for chemical reaction rates in terms of the friction constant of an underlying Fokker-Planck equation. An interpolation formula is obtained for() containing Kramers' results for small and large as limiting cases. For temperaturesT small compared to the well depthV 0 one finds a large regionT/V 0/v 0V 0/T in which Eyring's absolute rate theory is approximately valid. On leave of absence from Physikdepartment der TUM, München-Garching  相似文献

An attempt to produce a continuous creation theory by adapting the Brans-Dicke theory is described. The universe is seen to be created out of self-contained gravitational, scalar, and matter fields. However, the solution of the one-body problem reveals unsatisfactory characteristics of the theory, and in particular the principle of equivalence is severely violated. A second theory is described which retains the attractive features of the first theory and which does not fall foul of its objections. There do exist empirical tests for the theory which are described and which will require further examination. In the limit this theory approaches general relativity in every respect.Notation 2 gf the invariant d'Alembertian - t 0 Hubble time - H Hubble's constant - scalar field - coupling constant - T M energy-momentum tensor of matter and nongravitational energy, and nonscalar field energy - T M energy-momentum tensor of scalar field energy - T M covariant form - T M contravariant form - T M mixed form - T M T M trace - T M ; covariant differentiation - contravariant differentiation - T Ricci tensor - R curvature scalar (in tensorial equations) - Kronecker symbol - () a function of used in the text - density - p pressure - g the metric tensor - R(t) scale factor (in cosmological equations) - U the fluid 4-velocity (covariant) - U the fluid 4-velocity (contravariant) - functions differentiated once with respect to time ( , differenciated twice) - k the Robertson-Walker curvature constant=+1, 0, or –1 - proportional to - g gravitational coefficient - parameter - angle of deflection, or coordinate - angle of precession or coordinate - angle of precession - G v the force density - 3( – n (t)) the Dirac delta function - proper time - K an unknown function definingG - total angle of deflection - r 0 minimum radius of approach of a light ray grazing the sun  相似文献

Conclusions For holography using a convergent subject beam arrangement, the effect associated with increased extrafocal information density is most pronounced when the parameter 2ac/F is small. This relationship between the object parameters (a and c) and the characteristics of the holographic system (, F) is encountered most frequently in problems of microfilming (ac) and radar imaging (ac,a 2/F is small). It is only in the case 2acF99 with an accuracy of not worse than 1%, that we can assert that the sizes of the minimal Fourier holograms will coincide.Gorkii State University. The paper explains the theory of modelling electrostatic fields by a resistance network. The conditions, which the resistance network must satisfy, are derived and the question of modelling electrodes of different shapes is solved. The finished network and the results obtained on it when modelling a jet for a linear h-f accelerator of electrons are described. Particular attention is paid to the influence of a space charge, the modelling of which is an advantage of this method.

For a large class of independent (site or bond, short- or long-range) percolation models, we show the following: (1) If the percolation densityP (p) is discontinuous atp c , then the critical exponent (defined by the divergence of expected cluster size, nP n (p) (P c P) asp p c ) must satisfy 2. (2) or (defined analogously to, but asp p c ) and [P n (p c ) (n –1–1/) asn ] must satisfy, 2(1 – 1/). These inequalities for improve the previously known bound 1(Aizenman and Newman), since 2 (Aizenman and Barsky). Additionally, result 1may be useful, in standardd-dimensional percolation, for proving rigorously (ind>2) that, as expected,P x has no discontinuity atp c .  相似文献

We report new limits on right-handed currents, based on precise measurements of the endpoint of the e+ spectrum from + decay. Highly polarized + from the TRIUMF surface beam were stopped in pure metal foils within either an 1.1-T spin-holding logitudinal field, or a 70-gauss spin-precessing transverse field. Decay e+ emitted within 200 mrad of the beam direction were momentum-analyzed to ±0.2%. For the spin-held data, decay via (V-A) currents requires the e+ rate to approach zero in the beam direction at the endpoint. Measurement of this rate sets the 90%-confidence limits P />0.9959 and M(WR)>380 GeV, where WR is the possible right-handed gauge boson. For the spin-precessed data we independently determine a 90% confidence limit P />0.9918.We are indebted to the entire TRIUMF management and staff for their splendid support of this experiment. In its early stages we benefited from discussion with J. Brewer, R. Cahn, K. Crowe, and W. Wenzel. Rapid commissioning of the polarimeter was made possible by the superb efforts of the LBL support staff. In connection with another article by the author, we show how it might be possible to travel faster than the speed of light. We show that for clocks and rods moving faster than the speed of light, we get instead of time dilation and Lorentz contraction, respectively, time contraction and Lorentz expansion, respectively. It is shown that this paper is in confirmation with earlier articles dealing with this subject.  相似文献
