We have synthesized a blue‐light‐emitting polyfluorene (PF) derivative ( PF‐CBZ‐OXD ) that presents bulky hole‐transporting carbazole and electron‐transporting oxadiazole pendent groups functionalized at the C‐9 positions of alternating fluorene units. The results from photoluminescence and electrochemical measurements indicate that both the side chains and the PF main chain retain their own electronic characteristics in the copolymer. An electroluminescent device incorporating this polymer as the emitting layer was turned on at 4.5 V; it exhibited a stable blue emission with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 1.1%. Moreover, we doped PF‐CBZ‐OXD and its analogue PF‐TPA‐OXD with a red‐light‐emitting iridium phosphor for use as components of phosphorescent red‐light emitters to investigate the effect of the host's HOMO energy level on the degree of charge trapping and on the electrophosphorescent efficiency. We found that spectral overlap and individual energy level matching between the host and guest were both crucial features affecting the performance of the electroluminescence devices. Atomic force microscopy measurements indicated that the dipolar nature of PF‐CBZ‐OXD , in contrast to the general nonpolarity of polydialkylfluorenes, provided a stabilizing environment that allowed homogeneous dispersion of the polar iridium triplet dopant. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Much effort has been devoted to developing highly efficient organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) that function through phosphorescence or thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). However, efficient host materials for blue TADF and phosphorescent guest emitters are limited because of their requirement of high triplet energy levels. Herein, we report the rigid acceptor unit benzimidazobenzothiazole (BID‐BT), which is suitable for use in bipolar hosts in blue OLEDs. The designed host materials, based on BID‐BT, possess high triplet energy and bipolar carrier transport ability. Both blue TADF and phosphorescent OLEDs containing BID‐BT‐based derivatives exhibit external quantum efficiencies as high as 20 %, indicating that these hosts allow efficient triplet exciton confinement appropriate for blue TADF and phosphorescent guest emitters.  相似文献

Summary: A strategy to generate an efficient white‐light emission has been developed by mixing fluorescence and phosphorescence emission from a single polymer. Fluorene is used as the blue‐emissive component, benzothiadiazole (BT) and the iridium complex [(btp)2Ir(tmd)] are incorporated into a polyfluorene backbone, respectively, as green‐ and red‐emissive chromophores by Suzuki polycondensation. By changing the contents of BT and [(btp)2Ir(tmd)] in the polymer, the electroluminescence spectrum from a single polymer can be adjusted to achieve white‐light emission. A white polymeric light‐emitting diode (WPLED) with a structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK/PFIrR1G03/CsF/Al shows a maximum external quantum efficiency of 3.7% and the maximum luminous efficiency of 3.9 cd · A−1 at the current density of 1.6 mA · cm−2 with the CIE coordinates of (0.33, 0.34). The maximum luminance of 4 180 cd · m−2 is achieved at the current density of 268 mA · cm−2 with the CIE coordinates of (0.31, 0.32). The white‐light emissions from such polymers are stable in the white‐light region at all applied voltages, and the electroluminescence efficiencies decline slightly with the increasing current density, thus indicating that the approach of incorporating singlet and triplet species into the polymer backbone is promising for WPLEDs.

Solution-processible conjugated electrophosphorescent polymers   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
We report the synthesis and photophysical study of a series of solution-processible phosphorescent iridium complexes. These comprise bis-cyclometalated iridium units [Ir(ppy)(2)(acac)] or [Ir(btp)(2)(acac)] where ppy is 2-phenylpyridinato, btp is 2-(2'-benzo[b]thienyl)pyridinato, and acac is acetylacetonate. The iridium units are covalently attached to and in conjugation with oligo(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl) [(FO)(n)] to form complexes [Ir(ppy-(FO)(n))(2)(acac)] or [Ir(btp-(FO)(n))(2)(acac)], where the number of fluorene units, n, is 1, 2, 3, approximately 10, approximately 20, approximately 30, or approximately 40. All the complexes exhibit emission from a mixed triplet state in both photoluminescence and electroluminescence, with efficient quenching of the fluorene singlet emission. Short-chain complexes, 11-13, [Ir(ppy-(FO)(n)-FH)(2)(acac)] where n = 0, 1, or 2, show green light emission, red-shifted through the FO attachment by about 70 meV, but for longer chains there is quenching because of the lower energy triplet state associated with polyfluorene. In contrast, polymer complexes 18-21 [Ir(btp-(FO)(n))(2)(acac)] where n is 5-40 have better triplet energy level matching and can be used to provide efficient red phosphorescent polymer light-emitting diodes, with a red shift due to the fluorene attachment of about 50 meV. We contrast this small (50-70 meV) and short-range modification of the triplet energies through extended conjugation, with the much more substantial evolution of the pi-pi* singlet transitions, which saturate at about n = 10. These covalently bound materials show improvements in efficiency over simple blends and will form the basis of future investigations into energy-transfer processes occurring in light-emitting diodes.  相似文献

Energy transfer and triplet exciton confinement in polymer/phosphorescent dopant systems have been investigated. Various combinations of host‐guest systems have been studied, consisting of two host polymers, poly(vinylcarbazole) (PVK) and poly[9,9‐bis(octyl)‐fluorene‐2,7‐diyl] (PF), blended with five different phosphorescent iridium complexes with different triplet energy levels. These combinations of hosts and dopants provide an ideal situation for studying the movement of triplet excitons between the host polymers and dopants. The excitons either can be confined at the dopant sites or can flow to the host polymers, subject to the relative position of the triplet energy levels of the material. For PF, because of its low triplet energy level, the exciton can flow back from the dopants to PF when the dopant has a higher triplet energy and subsequently quench the device efficiency. In contrast, efficient electrophosphorescence has been observed in doped PVK films because of the high triplet energy level of PVK. Better energy transfer from PVK to the dopants, as well as triplet exciton confinement on the dopants, leads to higher device performance than found in PF devices. Efficiencies as high as 16, 8.0, and 2.6 cd/A for green, yellow, and red emissions, respectively, can be achieved when PVK is selected as the host polymer. The results in this study show that the energy transfer and triplet exciton confinement have a pronounced influence on the device performance. In addition, this study also provides material design and selection rules for the efficient phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting diodes. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new molecules, CzFCBI and CzFNBI , have been tailor‐made to serve as bipolar host materials to realize high‐efficiency electrophosphorescent devices. The molecular design is configured with carbazole as the hole‐transporting block and N‐phenylbenzimidazole as the electron‐transporting block hybridized through the saturated bridge center (C9) and meta‐conjugation site (C3) of fluorene, respectively. With structural topology tuning of the connecting manner between N‐phenylbenzimidazole and the fluorene core, the resulting physical properties can be subtly modulated. Bipolar host CzFCBI with a C connectivity between phenylbenzimidazole and the fluorene bridge exhibited extended π conjugation; therefore, a low triplet energy of 2.52 eV was observed, which is insufficient to confine blue phosphorescence. However, the monochromatic devices indicate that the matched energy‐level alignment allows CzFCBI to outperform its N‐connected counterpart CzFNBI while employing other long‐wavelength‐emitting phosphorescent guests. In contrast, the high triplet energy (2.72 eV) of CzFNBI imparted by the N connectivity ensures its utilization as a universal bipolar host for blue‐to‐red phosphors. With a common device configuration, CzFNBI has been utilized to achieve highly efficient and low‐roll‐off devices with external quantum efficiency as high as 14 % blue, 17.8 % green, 16.6 % yellowish‐green, 19.5 % yellow, and 18.6 % red. In addition, by combining yellowish‐green with a sky‐blue emitter and a red emitter, a CzFNBI ‐hosted single‐emitting‐layer all‐phosphor three‐color‐based white electrophosphorescent device was successfully achieved with high efficiencies (18.4 %, 36.3 cd A?1, 28.3 lm W?1) and highly stable chromaticity (CIE x=0.43–0.46 and CIE y=0.43) at an applied voltage of 8 to 12 V, and a high color‐rendering index of 91.6.  相似文献

Significant efforts have been made to develop high‐efficiency organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) employing thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters with blue, green, yellow, and orange–red colors. However, efficient TADF materials with colors ranging from red, to deep‐red, to near‐infrared (NIR) have been rarely reported owing to the difficulty in molecular design. Herein, we report the first NIR TADF molecule TPA‐DCPP (TPA=triphenylamine; DCPP=2,3‐dicyanopyrazino phenanthrene) which has a small singlet–triplet splitting (ΔEST) of 0.13 eV. Its nondoped OLED device exhibits a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 2.1 % with a Commission International de L′Éclairage (CIE) coordinate of (0.70, 0.29). Moreover, an extremely high EQE of nearly 10 % with an emission band at λ=668 nm has been achieved in the doped device, which is comparable to the most‐efficient deep‐red/NIR phosphorescent OLEDs with similar electroluminescent spectra.  相似文献

Triarylboron compounds have attracted much attention, and found wide use as functional materials because of their electron‐accepting properties arising from the vacant p orbitals on the boron atoms. In this study, we design and synthesize new donor–acceptor triarylboron emitters that show thermally activated delayed fluorescence. These emitters display sky‐blue to green emission and high photoluminescence quantum yields of 87–100 % in host matrices. Organic light‐emitting diodes using these emitting molecules as dopants exhibit high external quantum efficiencies of 14.0–22.8 %, which originate from efficient up‐conversion from triplet to singlet states and subsequent efficient radiative decay from singlet to ground states.  相似文献

The nature of Dexter triplet energy transfer between bonded systems of a red phosphorescent iridium complex 13 and a conjugated polymer, polyfluorene, has been investigated in electrophosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes. Red-emitting phosphorescent iridium complexes based on the [Ir(btp)(2)(acac)] fragment (where btp is 2-(2'-benzo[b]thienyl)pyridinato and acac is acetylacetonate) have been attached either directly (spacerless) or through a -(CH(2))(8)- chain (octamethylene-tethered) at the 9-position of a 9-octylfluorene host. The resulting dibromo-functionalized spacerless (8) or octamethylene-tethered (12) fluorene monomers were chain extended by Suzuki polycondensations using the bis(boronate)-terminated fluorene macromonomers 16 in the presence of end-capping chlorobenzene solvent to produce the statistical spacerless (17) and octamethylene-tethered (18) copolymers containing an even dispersion of the pendant phosphorescent fragments. The spacerless monomer 12 adopts a face-to-face conformation with a separation of only 3.6 A between the iridium complex and fluorenyl group, as shown by X-ray analysis of a single crystal, and this facilitates intramolecular triplet energy transfer in the spacerless copolymers 17. The photo- and electroluminescence efficiencies of the octamethylene-tethered copolymers 18 are double those of the spacerless copolymers 17, and this is consistent with suppression of the back transfer of triplets from the red phosphorescent iridium complex to the polyfluorene backbone in 18. The incorporation of a -(CH(2))(8)- chain between the polymer host and phosphorescent guest is thus an important design principle for achieving higher efficiencies in those electrophosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes for which the triplet energy levels of the host and guest are similar.  相似文献

In a quest for the main‐chain chiral and highly stable blue‐light‐emitting π‐conjugated polymers, a novel series of soluble conjugated random and alternating copolymers (PF‐BN) derived from fluorene and axially chiral 1,1′‐binaphthol (BINOL) were successfully synthesized by Suzuki coupling polymerization. The polymer structures, optical properties, and their electrochemical properties were investigated by 1H NMR, TGA/DSC, UV‐Vis absorption, photoluminescence, cyclic voltammetry, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. The blue‐light‐emitting BINOL‐containing copolymers with proper content of BINOL show highly efficient photoluminescence and ultra highly stable light‐emission with almost unchanged fluorescent spectra after annealing at 200 °C in air for 10 h. The joint experimental and theoretical study of the main‐chain chirality reveals that (1) the chirality of BINOL can be transferred to the polymer backbone, (2) the effective conjugation length is about one BINOL and three fluorenes, (3) the main active chiral block in the copolymers is probably composed by one BINOL with the other two or three fluorenes, and (4) the dihedral angle in the PF‐BN copolymers should be larger than 105°. The incorporation of BINOL into the polyfluorene backbone is an effective way to produce highly efficient and stable blue‐light‐emitting main‐chain chiral conjugated polymer with interesting optoelectronic properties. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) copolymers derived from 1‐methoxy‐4‐octyloxyphenylene (MOP), 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), and trans‐1,2‐bis(tributylstannyl)ethylene were first prepared by a palladium‐catalyzed Stille coupling reaction. The feed ratios of MOP to BT were 99.5:0.5, 99:1, 95:5, 85:15, 70:30, and 50:50. An efficient energy transfer from the 2‐methoxy‐5‐octyloxy‐p‐phenylenevinylene segment to the narrow‐band‐gap units was observed. The poly(2‐methoxy‐5‐octyloxy‐p‐phenylenevinylene‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazolevinylene) copolymers emitted deep red light. The maximum electroluminescence emission of these PPV copolymers occurred at 659–724 nm and was accompanied by gradual redshifting with an increasing BT concentration. The photophysical properties were examined in comparison with those of copolymers based on BT and fluorene or N‐alkylcarbazole doped with the same BT concentration in the copolymer main chain. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New white polymeric light‐emitting diodes from phosphorescent single polymer systems have been developed using a blue‐light‐emitting fluorene monomer copolymerized with a red‐light‐emitting phosphorescent dye, and end‐capped with a green‐light‐emission dye. All of the copolymers have good thermal stability with 5% weight loss temperatures at 380–413 °C and glass transition temperatures at 75–137 °C. We obtained white‐light‐emission devices by adjusting the molar ratio of the comonomers with a structure of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrene sulfonic acid)/polyvinylcarbazole (PVK)/emission layer/Ca/Ag. The highest brightness in such a device configuration is 300 cd/m2 at a current density of 2900 A/m2 with high white color quality (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.34)). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Data are reported on the triplet states of a series of fluorene-based A-alt-B type alternating copolymers based on pulse radiolysis-energy transfer and flash photolysis experiments. From the pulse radiolysis experiments, spectra are given for eight copolymers involving phenylene, thiophene, benzothiadiazole, and oligothienylenevinylene groups. Quantum yields for triplet-state formation (PhiT) have been obtained by flash photolysis following laser excitation and in one case by photoacoustic calorimetry. In addition, yields of sensitized formation of singlet oxygen have been determined by time-resolved phosphorescence and are, in general, in excellent agreement with the PhiT values. In all cases, the presence of thiophene units is seen to increase intersystem-crossing quantum yields, probably because of the presence of the heavy sulfur atom. However, with the poly[2,7-(9,9-bis(2'-ethylhexyl)fluorene)-alt-1,4-phenylene] (PFP), thiophene S,S-dioxide (PFTSO2) and benzothiadiazole (F8BT) copolymers, low yields of triplet formation are observed. With three of the copolymers, the energies of the triplet states have been determined. With PFP, the triplet energy is virtually identical to that of poly[2,7-(9,9-bis(2'-ethylhexyl)fluorene)]. In contrast, with fluorene-thiophene copolymers PFaT and PF3T, the triplet energies are closer to those of thiophene oligomers, indicating that there is significant conjugation between fluorene and thiophene units but also that there is a more localized triplet state than with the homopolymers.  相似文献

Energy transfer between phosphors and conjugated polymers was investigated using a fluorene trimer (F3) as a model conjugated material. The phosphors studied were bis-cyclometalated iridium complexes (FP, PPY, BT, PQ, and BTP), with triplet energies of 2.6, 2.4, 2.2, 2.1, and 2.0 eV, respectively (based on phosphorescence spectra). Stern-Volmer analysis of luminescent quenching shows that energy transfer from either FP or PPY to F3 is an exothermic process with Stern-Volmer quenching constants (kqSV) of near 109 M-1 s-1 while energy transfer from BT, PQ, and BTP is endothermic (kqSV = 107-106 M-1 s-1). On the the basis of above results, the triplet energy of F3 is estimated to be less than 2.3 eV (530 nm). This study suggests that conjugated polymers, which typically have lower T1 energies than F3, should also quench phosphorescent emission in thin films and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) incorporating these and related phosphorescent dopants.  相似文献

An indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing blue‐, green‐, and red light‐emitting moieties was synthesized by Suzuki polymerization and examined for application in white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs). Tetraoctylindenofluorene (IF), 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), and 4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (DBT) derivatives were used as the blue‐, green‐, and red‐light emitting structures, respectively. The number‐average molecular weight of the polymer was determined to be 25,900 g/mol with a polydispersity index of 2.02. The polymer was thermally stable (Td = ~398 °C) and quite soluble in common organic solvents, forming an optical‐quality film by spin casting. The EL characteristics were fine‐tuned from the single copolymer through incomplete fluorescence energy transfer by adjusting the composition of the red/green/blue units in the copolymer. The EL device using the indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing 0.01 mol % BT and 0.02 mol % DBT units ( PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 ) showed a maximum brightness of 4088 cd/m2 at 8 V and a maximum current efficiency of 0.36 cd/A with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.34, 0.32). The EL emission of PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 was stable with respect to changes in voltage. The color emitted was dependent on the thickness of the active polymer layer; layer (~60 nm) too thin was unsuitable for realizing WOLED via energy transfer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: A series of novel copolymers with fluorene‐alt‐carbazole segments and β‐diketonate moieties coordinating to iridium were synthesized by Suzuki polycondensation, and characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and GPC. In the absorption spectra of the copolymers, metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer transitions coming from iridium complex increased in intensity with increasing content of Ir complex in copolymers. The photoluminescence spectra of the copolymers were dominated by emission from the iridium complex with peak at ca. 620 nm even at the feed ratio of the complex as low as 0.5 mol‐%. The electrochemical investigation indicated that the incorporation of carbazole and iridium complex units reduce the barrier for both hole and electron injection compared with the polyfluorene. The light‐emitting diodes using the copolymers as emission layer under different device configurations were fabricated. The devices with 2‐(4‐biphenylyl)‐5‐(4‐tert‐butylphenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole (PBD) show significantly higher external quantum efficiencies than those without PBD. A saturated red‐emitting polymer light‐emitting diode with emission peak at 628 nm, the maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.6% at the current density (J) of 38.5 mA · cm−2, and the maximum luminance of 541 cd · m−2 at 15.8 V was achieved from the device ITO/PEDOT/PFCzIrpiq3 + PBD (40%)/Ba/Al.

A series of star‐like dopant/host single‐polymer systems with a D‐A type star‐shaped orange core and three blue polyfluorene arms were designed and synthesized. Through tuning the doping concentration of the orange core and thermal annealing treatment of white polymer light‐emitting diodes based on them, highly efficient white electroluminescence has been achieved. A typical single‐layer device (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al) realized pure white emission with a luminous efficiency of 16.62 cd A?1, an external quantum efficiency of 6.28% and CIE coordinates of (0.33, 0.36) for S‐WP‐002TPB3 containing 0.02 mol % orange core. The high efficiency of the devices could be mainly attributed to the suppressed concentration quenching of the dopant units, more efficient energy transfer from polymer host to orange dopant and thermal annealing‐induced α‐phase polyfluorene (PF) self‐dopant in amorphous PF host. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Five new thermally robust electroluminescent fluorene‐based conjugated copolymers, including poly[2,7‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene)‐co‐4,7‐{5,6‐bis(3,7‐dimethyloctyloxymethyl)‐2,1,3‐(benzothiadiazole)}] ( PFO‐P2C10BT ) were synthesized and used to fabricate the efficient polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). The glass transition temperatures of the polymers were found to be higher than that of poly(9,9‐dialkylfluorenes) and are in the range 113–165 °C. We fabricated PLEDs in indium‐tin oxide/PEDOT/light‐emitting polymer/cathode configurations using either double‐layer LiF/Al or triple‐layer Alq3/LiF/Al cathode structures. The new copolymers were found to have emission colors that vary from greenish blue (491 nm) to green (543 nm) depending on the copolymer composition. The maximum brightness and luminance efficiency of these PLEDs were found to be up to 5347 cd/m2 and 1.51 cd/A at 10 V, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To study influence of the donor(D)‐acceptor(A) units and pendent mode of phosphorescent moiety on the opto‐electronic properties for its resulting copolymers, two D‐A‐based polyfluorene derivatives ( P 1 and P 2) pending the red‐emitting iridium bi(phenylisoquilonato) (picolinato) [Ir(Piq)2(pic)] unit and a polyfluorene derivative ( P 3) only pending Ir(Piq)2(pic) unit were synthesized and characterized, in which the donor of carbazole, the acceptor of oxadiazole are grafted into the C‐9 position of fluorene, the Ir(Piq)2(pic) unit is pended into either the C‐9 position for P 1 and P 3 or the end for P 2 of fluorene by unconjugated linkage, respectively. Their opto‐electronic properties were significantly influenced by the D‐A units and pendent mode of the Ir(Piq)2(pic) unit. In the polymer light‐emitting devices with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT/polymers/LiF/Al, the P 1 showed best electroluminescent properties than the P 2 and P 3. The maximum current efficiency of 0.72 cd/A and the highest luminance of 1398 cd/m 2 were obtained in the P 1‐based device, which are 1.3 and 1.5 times higher than those in the P 2‐based device, respectively. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new class of highly efficient and stable, blue‐phosphorescent PtII complexes based on a tetradentate chelating framework has been found to exhibit highly sensitive and reversible responses to multiple external stimuli including temperature, pressure, and UV irradiation with distinct phosphorescent color switching—from blue to red or white. Intermolecular excimer formation is the main origin of this intriguing multi‐response phenomenon. Highly efficient singlet‐oxygen sensitization by the PtII compounds yields UV‐light‐induced phosphorescence enhancement and color switching.  相似文献
