In this paper, we design a numerical algorithm for solving a simple bilevel program where the lower level program is a nonconvex minimization problem with a convex set constraint. We propose to solve a combined problem where the first order condition and the value function are both present in the constraints. Since the value function is in general nonsmooth, the combined problem is in general a nonsmooth and nonconvex optimization problem. We propose a smoothing augmented Lagrangian method for solving a general class of nonsmooth and nonconvex constrained optimization problems. We show that, if the sequence of penalty parameters is bounded, then any accumulation point is a Karush-Kuch-Tucker (KKT) point of the nonsmooth optimization problem. The smoothing augmented Lagrangian method is used to solve the combined problem. Numerical experiments show that the algorithm is efficient for solving the simple bilevel program.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an augmented Lagrangian proximal alternating (ALPA) method for solving two classes of large-scale sparse discrete constrained optimization problems. Specifically, the ALPA method generates a sequence of augmented Lagrangian (AL) subproblems in the out iterations and utilizes a proximal alternating linearized minimization method and sparse projection techniques to solve these AL subproblems. And we study the first-order optimality conditions for these two classes of problems. Under some suitable assumptions, we show that any accumulation point of the sequence generated by the ALPA method satisfies the necessary first-order optimality conditions of these problems or is a local minimizer of these problems. The computational results with practical problems demonstrate that our method can find the suboptimal solutions of the problems efficiently and is competitive with some other local solution methods.

In this paper, a fast algorithm for Euler's elastica functional is proposed, in which the Euler's elastica functional is reformulated as a constrained minimization problem. Combining the augmented Lagrangian method and operator splitting techniques, the resulting saddle-point problem is solved by a serial of subproblems. To tackle the nonlinear constraints arising in the model, a novel fixed-point-based approach is proposed so that all the subproblems either is a linear problem or has a closed-form solution. We show the good performance of our approach in terms of speed and reliability using numerous numerical examples on synthetic, real-world and medical images for image denoising, image inpainting and image zooming problems.  相似文献

Given an algorithm A for solving some mathematical problem based on the iterative solution of simpler subproblems, an outer trust-region (OTR) modification of A is the result of adding a trust-region constraint to each subproblem. The trust-region size is adaptively updated according to the behavior of crucial variables. The new subproblems should not be more complex than the original ones, and the convergence properties of the OTR algorithm should be the same as those of Algorithm A. In the present work, the OTR approach is exploited in connection with the “greediness phenomenon” of nonlinear programming. Convergence results for an OTR version of an augmented Lagrangian method for nonconvex constrained optimization are proved, and numerical experiments are presented.  相似文献

Copositive optimization problems are particular conic programs: optimize linear forms over the copositive cone subject to linear constraints. Every quadratic program with linear constraints can be formulated as a copositive program, even if some of the variables are binary. So this is an NP-hard problem class. While most methods try to approximate the copositive cone from within, we propose a method which approximates this cone from outside. This is achieved by passing to the dual problem, where the feasible set is an affine subspace intersected with the cone of completely positive matrices, and this cone is approximated from within. We consider feasible descent directions in the completely positive cone, and regularized strictly convex subproblems. In essence, we replace the intractable completely positive cone with a nonnegative cone, at the cost of a series of nonconvex quadratic subproblems. Proper adjustment of the regularization parameter results in short steps for the nonconvex quadratic programs. This suggests to approximate their solution by standard linearization techniques. Preliminary numerical results on three different classes of test problems are quite promising.  相似文献

In this paper, the augmented Lagrangian SQP method is considered for the numerical solution of optimization problems with equality constraints. The problem is formulated in a Hilbert space setting. Since the augmented Lagrangian SQP method is a type of Newton method for the nonlinear system of necessary optimality conditions, it is conceivable that q-quadratic convergence can be shown to hold locally in the pair (x, ). Our interest lies in the convergence of the variable x alone. We improve convergence estimates for the Newton multiplier update which does not satisfy the same convergence properties in x as for example the least-square multiplier update. We discuss these updates in the context of parameter identification problems. Furthermore, we extend the convergence results to inexact augmented Lagrangian methods. Numerical results for a control problem are also presented.  相似文献

A widespread and successful approach to tackle unit-commitment problems is constraint decomposition: by dualizing the linking constraints, the large-scale nonconvex problem decomposes into smaller independent subproblems. The dual problem consists then in finding the best Lagrangian multiplier (the optimal “price”); it is solved by a convex nonsmooth optimization method. Realistic modeling of technical production constraints makes the subproblems themselves difficult to solve exactly. Nonsmooth optimization algorithms can cope with inexact solutions of the subproblems. In this case however, we observe that the computed dual solutions show a noisy and unstable behaviour, that could prevent their use as price indicators. In this paper, we present a simple and easy-to-implement way to stabilize dual optimal solutions, by penalizing the noisy behaviour of the prices in the dual objective. After studying the impact of a general stabilization term on the model and the resolution scheme, we focus on the penalization by discrete total variation, showing the consistency of the approach. We illustrate our stabilization on a synthetic example, and real-life problems from EDF (the French Electricity Board).  相似文献

The focus of this paper is on studying an inverse second-order cone quadratic programming problem, in which the parameters in the objective function need to be adjusted as little as possible so that a known feasible solution becomes the optimal one. We formulate this problem as a minimization problem with cone constraints, and its dual, which has fewer variables than the original one, is a semismoothly differentiable (SC 1) convex programming problem with both a linear inequality constraint and a linear second-order cone constraint. We demonstrate the global convergence of the augmented Lagrangian method with an exact solution to the subproblem and prove that the convergence rate of primal iterates, generated by the augmented Lagrangian method, is proportional to 1/r, and the rate of multiplier iterates is proportional to $1/\sqrt{r}$ , where r is the penalty parameter in the augmented Lagrangian. Furthermore, a semismooth Newton method with Armijo line search is constructed to solve the subproblems in the augmented Lagrangian approach. Finally, numerical results are reported to show the effectiveness of the augmented Lagrangian method with both an exact solution and an inexact solution to the subproblem for solving the inverse second-order cone quadratic programming problem.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We develop three algorithms to solve the subproblems generated by the augmented Lagrangian methods introduced by Iusem-Nasri (2010) for the equilibrium problem. The first algorithm that we propose incorporates the Newton method and the other two are instances of the subgradient projection method. One of our algorithms is also capable of solving nondifferentiable equilibrium problems. Using well-known test problems, all algorithms introduced here are implemented and numerical results are reported to compare their performances.  相似文献

In this paper, we present new convergence results of augmented Lagrangian methods for mathematical programs with complementarity constraints (MPCC). Modified augmented Lagrangian methods based on four different algorithmic strategies are considered for the constrained nonconvex optimization reformulation of MPCC. We show that the convergence to a global optimal solution of the problem can be ensured without requiring the boundedness condition of the multipliers.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical duality theory for solving a general nonconvex constrained optimization problem within a unified framework to cover Lagrange multiplier method and KKT theory. It is proved that if both target function and constraints possess certain patterns necessary for modeling real systems, a perfect dual problem (without duality gap) can be obtained in a unified form with global optimality conditions provided. While the popular augmented Lagrangian method may produce more difficult nonconvex problems due to the nonlinearity of constraints. Some fundamental concepts such as the objectivity and Lagrangian in nonlinear programming are addressed.

This paper develops a new error criterion for the approximate minimization of augmented Lagrangian subproblems. This criterion is practical since it is readily testable given only a gradient (or subgradient) of the augmented Lagrangian. It is also “relative” in the sense of relative error criteria for proximal point algorithms: in particular, it uses a single relative tolerance parameter, rather than a summable parameter sequence. Our analysis first describes an abstract version of the criterion within Rockafellar’s general parametric convex duality framework, and proves a global convergence result for the resulting algorithm. Specializing this algorithm to a standard formulation of convex programming produces a version of the classical augmented Lagrangian method with a novel inexact solution condition for the subproblems. Finally, we present computational results drawn from the CUTE test set—including many nonconvex problems—indicating that the approach works well in practice.  相似文献

The problem of finding the best rank-one approximation to higher-order tensors has extensive engineering and statistical applications. It is well-known that this problem is equivalent to a homogeneous polynomial optimization problem. In this paper, we study theoretical results and numerical methods of this problem, particularly focusing on the 4-th order symmetric tensor case. First, we reformulate the polynomial optimization problem to a matrix programming, and show the equivalence between these two problems. Then, we prove that there is no duality gap between the reformulation and its Lagrangian dual problem. Concerning the approaches to deal with the problem, we propose two relaxed models. The first one is a convex quadratic matrix optimization problem regularized by the nuclear norm, while the second one is a quadratic matrix programming regularized by a truncated nuclear norm, which is a D.C. function and therefore is nonconvex. To overcome the difficulty of solving this nonconvex problem, we approximate the nonconvex penalty by a convex term. We propose to use the proximal augmented Lagrangian method to solve these two relaxed models. In order to obtain a global solution, we propose an alternating least eigenvalue method after solving the relaxed models and prove its convergence. Numerical results presented in the last demonstrate, especially for nonpositive tensors, the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed methods.  相似文献

This article presents a global optimization algorithm for globally maximizing the sum of concave–convex ratios problem with a convex feasible region. The algorithm uses a branch and bound scheme where a concave envelope of the objective function is constructed to obtain an upper bound of the optimal value by using conical partition. As a result, the upper-bound subproblems during the algorithm search are all ordinary convex programs with less variables and constraints and do not grow in size from iterations to iterations in the computation procedure, and furthermore a new bounding tightening strategy is proposed such that the upper-bound convex relaxation subproblems are closer to the original nonconvex problem to enhance solution procedure. At last, some numerical examples are given to vindicate our conclusions.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop the sufficient conditions for the existence of local and global saddle points of two classes of augmented Lagrangian functions for nonconvex optimization problem with both equality and inequality constraints, which improve the corresponding results in available papers. The main feature of our sufficient condition for the existence of global saddle points is that we do not need the uniqueness of the optimal solution. Furthermore, we show that the existence of global saddle points is a necessary and sufficient condition for the exact penalty representation in the framework of augmented Lagrangians. Based on these, we convert a class of generalized semi-infinite programming problems into standard semi-infinite programming problems via augmented Lagrangians. Some new first-order optimality conditions are also discussed. This research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of P.R. China (Grant No. 10571106 and No. 10701047).  相似文献

A new decomposition optimization algorithm, called path-following gradient-based decomposition, is proposed to solve separable convex optimization problems. Unlike path-following Newton methods considered in the literature, this algorithm does not require any smoothness assumption on the objective function. This allows us to handle more general classes of problems arising in many real applications than in the path-following Newton methods. The new algorithm is a combination of three techniques, namely smoothing, Lagrangian decomposition and path-following gradient framework. The algorithm decomposes the original problem into smaller subproblems by using dual decomposition and smoothing via self-concordant barriers, updates the dual variables using a path-following gradient method and allows one to solve the subproblems in parallel. Moreover, compared to augmented Lagrangian approaches, our algorithmic parameters are updated automatically without any tuning strategy. We prove the global convergence of the new algorithm and analyze its convergence rate. Then, we modify the proposed algorithm by applying Nesterov’s accelerating scheme to get a new variant which has a better convergence rate than the first algorithm. Finally, we present preliminary numerical tests that confirm the theoretical development.  相似文献

A new Lagrangian relaxation (LR) approach is developed for job shop scheduling problems. In the approach, operation precedence constraints rather than machine capacity constraints are relaxed. The relaxed problem is decomposed into single or parallel machine scheduling subproblems. These subproblems, which are NP-complete in general, are approximately solved by using fast heuristic algorithms. The dual problem is solved by using a recently developed “surrogate subgradient method” that allows approximate optimization of the subproblems. Since the algorithms for subproblems do not depend on the time horizon of the scheduling problems and are very fast, our new LR approach is efficient, particularly for large problems with long time horizons. For these problems, the machine decomposition-based LR approach requires much less memory and computation time as compared to a part decomposition-based approach as demonstrated by numerical testing.  相似文献

Algorithmic aspects for the solution of topological shape optimization problems subject to a cone constraint are addressed in this paper. In this framework, an augmented Lagrangian method based on the concept of topological derivative is proposed. It is illustrated by some numerical experiments in structural optimization with compliance and eigenfrequency constraints and multiple loads.  相似文献

In this paper relationships between Pareto points and saddle points are studied in convex and nonconvex multiple objective programming. The analysis is based on partitioning the index sets of objectives and constraints and splitting the original problem into subproblems having a special structure. The results are based on scalarizations of multiple objective programs and related linear and augmented Lagrangian functions. In the nonconvex case, a saddle point characterization of Pareto points is possible under assumptions that guarantee existence of Pareto points and stability conditions of single objective problems. Essentially, these conditions are not stronger than those in analogous results for single objective programming. This research was partially supported by ONR Grant N00014-97-1-784AMS Subject Classification: 90C29, 90C26  相似文献
