A simple and convenient method for the preparation of needle-shape nanoparticles of β-Ni(OH)2 has been developed. Results show that a needle-shaped β-Ni(OH)2 can be easily obtained in the presence of ethylenediamine and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate within a size from 100 to 200
nm. The shape and structure of the product were characterized by XRD, TEM and FT-IR. It is noteworthy that the formation of
needle-shape β-Ni(OH)2 benefits from the addition of sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate. The optimum preparation conditions and the possible mechanism
are also discussed.

A novel environmental friendly, room temperature route using an ionic liquid 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydroxide ([BMIM]OH)
for the synthesis of Mn3O4 nanoparticles is presented. The product was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction,
and transmission electron microscopy. Phase purity was confirmed by XRD, and X-ray line profile fitting determined a crystallite
size of 42 ± 11 nm. TEM analysis revealed various morphologies. EPR measurements have indicated the existence of long-range
interactions, due to the wide range of particle sizes and morphologies observed.

By the reaction of 2-methyl-furan-3-carboxylic acid hydrazide with isothiocyanates, 1-[(2-methyl-furan-3-yl)carbonyl]-4-substituted
thiosemicarbazides 1 were obtained. Further cyclization with 2% NaOH led to the formation of 3-(2-methyl-furan-3-yl)-4-substituted-Δ2-1,2,4-triazoline-5-thiones 2. The pharmacological effects of 2 on the central nervous system in mice were investigated. Strong antinociceptive properties
of the investigated derivatives were observed in a wide range of doses.

Water-soluble Mn3O4 nanocrystals have been prepared through thermal decomposition in a high temperature boiling solvent, 2-pyrrolidone. The final
product was characterized with XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR and Zeta Potential measurements. Average crystallite size was calculated
as ∼15 nm using XRD peak broadening. TEM analysis revealed spherical nanoparticles with an average diameter of 14±0.4 nm.
FTIR analysis indicated that 2-pyrrolidone coordinates with the Mn3O4 nanocrystals only via O from the carbonyl group, thus confining their growth and protecting their surfaces from interaction
with neighboring particles.

Lutetium has been determined by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry in an acidic solution containing Zn-EDTA.
Lutetium (III) ions liberated zinc (II), which was preconcentrated on a hanging mercury drop electrode and stripped anodically,
resulting in peak current linearly dependent on lutetium (III) concentration. Less than 0.4 ng mL−1 lutetium could be detected after a 2 min deposition.

The determination of paeoniforin, paeonol, and censenoside Rg1 in traditional Chinese medicinal preparations, Tze Po San Pien pills and Liuwen Dihuang pills has been investigated by micellar
electrokinetic capillary electrophoresis with borate buffer (20 mM), sodium dodecylsulfate (30 mM) and acetonitrile (20%)
as background electrolytes (pH 9.30), 20 kV applied voltage and 203 nm UV detection. The effects of SDS concentration, borate,
buffer pH, and organic modifier on electrophoretic behavior and separation are discussed. Regression equations revealed linear
relationships between the peak-area of each component and the content with the correlation coefficients from 0.9982 to 0.9999.
In addition, the levels of the active compounds in two kinds of traditional Chinese medicinal preparations were easily determined
with the recoveries from 93.1% to 108.2%.

The precursors with a low manganese content ≤ 0.07% Mn were synthesized by spontaneous crystallization from Zn2+, Mn2+ and C2O4
2−-containing solutions. The initial ratio Zn2+:C2O4
2− = 1:1 and 1:2 influences the morphology and prevailing orientations of the crystallites in the oxalate samples. The presence
of such small Mn content in the samples does not change the morphology or size of the crystals. The ZnO and Mn/ZnO oxides
with manganese content from 0.51×10−2 to 15.1×10−2 Wt % are obtained after thermal decomposition of the oxalates. The oxides preserved the morphology of the precursors. The
catalytic tests show that the pure ZnO has a poor activity for CO oxidation reaction. Its doping with Mn promotes the catalytic
activity (up from twice to five times) in spite of the very low contents of the dopants. The observed increase of the activity
depends on both dopant concentration and Zn2+:C2O4
2− ratio, probably due to the different mechanism of the manganese inclusion and different morphology of the oxides. The catalysts
of the 1:2 series are more active in CO oxidation reaction.

Three thermal effects on heating/cooling of K2TaF7 in the temperature interval of 680–800°C were investigated by the DSC method. The values determined for the enthalpy change
of the individual processes are: ΔtransIIHm(K2TaF7; 703°C) = 1.7(2) kJ mol−1, ΔtransIHm(K2TaF7; 746°C) = 19(1) kJ mol−1 and ΔtransIIIHm(K2TaF7; 771°C) = 13(1) kJ mol−1. The first thermal effect was attributed to a solid-solid phase transition; the second to the incongruent melting of K2TaF7 and the third to mixing of two liquids. These findings are supported by in situ neutron powder diffraction experiments performed in the temperature interval of 654–794°C.

TiO2 (B) and TiO2 anatase nanowires were prepared at 150 °C for 120 h by a hydrothermal method followed by calcination in air at 400 °C for
2 h and at 700 °C for 2 h for TiO2 (B) and TiO2 anatase, respectively. Although dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC) with fully nanowire electrodes showed a rather low light-to-electricity
conversion efficiency of 1.33 % for TiO2 (B) and 2.42% for TiO2 anatase, 10 wt % nanowire-dispersed electrodes in a P-25 TiO2-nanoparticle matrix demonstrated improved efficiency of 6.17 % for TiO2 (B) and 6.53% for TiO2 anatase, these exceeding that of pure P-25 electrodes in this work (η=5.59%). The dominant mechanisms of the improvement at 10 wt% for the two different polymorphs are thought to be different,
i.e., a light-scattering and film-thickness increment for the TiO2 (B) system, whereas there is an improved conduction path through the matrix for the TiO2 anatase system.

The Co-Pd/SiO2 and Co-Cu/SiO2 catalysts were prepared via solvated metal atom impregnation (SMAI) method and investigated for the Fischer-Tropsch (F-T)
synthesis. The catalysts contained 5wt.% Co and a weight ratio of Pd (or Cu) to Co of 1/30. XPS indicated that Co, Pd and
Cu were in metallic state. The results of XPS and magnetic measurements showed that Co and Pd (Cu) were alloyed. The Co particles
on the catalysts were very highly dispersed and they displayed superparamagnetic behavior. FT-IR indicated that the electrons
shifted from Cu and Pd to Co. Catalytic tests showed that CO hydrogenation rates followed the order Pd-Co > Cu-Co > Co.

ratio between the anti-and syn-conformers depends on the strength of intramolecular hydrogen bond (IMHB) between the nitrogen atom of the imino group and
the proton of the 2-hydroxy group. It was shown that increase in IMHB strength results in stabilization of the anti-conformer in solution.

The relative enthalpies of melts in the system KF - K2NbF7 were measured by drop-calorimetry at the temperatures 1058, 1140 and 1208 K as a function of composition. Heat capacities
of melted mixtures and enthalpies of mixing were determined using the experimental data. The molar heat capacity of melts
diverges slightly from additivity. The molar enthalpy of mixing of melts shows small negative deviation from ideality which
decreases with decreasing temperature. The thermal effect at mixing was assigned predominantly to association reactions producing
more complex fluoroniobate anions.
