We propose a new concept, two-step degree. Defining it as the capacity of a node of complex networks, we establish a novel capacity-load model of cascading failures of complex networks where the capacity of nodes decreases during the process of cascading failures. For scale-free networks, we find that the average two-step degree increases with the increase of the heterogeneity of the degree distribution, showing that the average two- step degree can be used for measuring the heterogeneity of the degree distribution of complex networks. In addition, under the condition that the average degree of a node is given, we can design a scale-free network with the optimal robustness to random failures by maximizing the average two-step degree.  相似文献

A network growth model with geographic limitation of accessible information about the status of existing nodes is investigated. In this model, the probability Π(k) of an existing node of degree k is found to be super-linear with Π(k)∼kα and α>1 when there are links from new nodes. The numerical results show that the constructed networks have typical power-law degree distributions P(k)∼kγ and the exponent γ depends on the constraint level. An analysis of local structural features shows the robust emergence of scale-free network structure in spite of the super-linear preferential attachment rule. This local structural feature is directly associated with the geographical connection constraints which are widely observed in many real networks.  相似文献

Most previous existing works on cascading failures only focused on attacks on nodes rather than on edges. In this paper, we discuss the response of scale-free networks subject to two different attacks on edges during cascading propagation, i.e., edge removal by either the descending or ascending order of the loads. Adopting a cascading model with a breakdown probability p of an overload edge and the initial load (kikj)α of an edge ij, where ki and kj are the degrees of the nodes connected by the edge ij and α is a tunable parameter, we investigate the effects of two attacks for the robustness of Barabási-Albert (BA) scale-free networks against cascading failures. In the case of α<1, our investigation by the numerical simulations leads to a counterintuitive finding that BA scale-free networks are more sensitive to attacks on the edges with the lowest loads than the ones with the highest loads, not relating to the breakdown probability. In addition, the same effect of two attacks in the case of α=1 may be useful in furthering studies on the control and defense of cascading failures in many real-life networks. We then confirm by the theoretical analysis these results observed in simulations.  相似文献

Previous studies concerning pinning control of complex-network synchronization have very often demonstrated that in an unweighted symmetrical scale-free network, controlling the high-degree nodes is more efficient than controlling randomly chosen ones; due to the heterogeneity of the node-degree or edge-connection distribution of the scale-free network, small-degree nodes have relatively high probabilities of being chosen at random but their control has less influence on the other nodes through the network. This raises the question of whether or not controlling the high-degree nodes is always better than controlling the small ones in scale-free networks. Our answer to this is yes and no. In this study, we carry out extensive numerical simulations to show that in an unweighted symmetrical Barabasi-Albert scale-free network, when the portion of controlled nodes is relatively large, controlling the small nodes becomes better than controlling the big nodes and controlling randomly chosen nodes has approximately the same effect as controlling the big ones. However, we also show that for normalized weighted scale-free networks, controlling the big nodes is in fact always better than controlling the small ones.  相似文献

To study the robustness of complex networks under attack and repair, we introduce a repair model of complex networks. Based on the model, we introduce two new quantities, i.e. attack fraction fa and the maximum degree of the nodes that have never been attacked ~Ka, to study analytically the critical attack fraction and the relative size of the giant component of complex networks under attack and repair, using the method of generating function. We show analytically and numerically that the repair strategy significantly enhances the robustness of the scale-free network and the effect of robustness improvement is better for the scale-free networks with a smaller degree exponent. We discuss the application of our theory in relation to the
understanding of robustness of complex networks with reparability.  相似文献

In this paper, we proposed an ungrowing scale-free network model, indicating the growth may not be a necessary condition of the self-organization of a network in a scale-free structure. The analysis shows that the degree distributions of the present model can varying from the Poisson form to the power-law form with the decrease of a free parameter α. This model provides a possible mechanism for the evolution of some scale-free networks with fixed size, such as the friendship networks of school children and the functional networks of the human brain.  相似文献

Attack vulnerability of scale-free networks due to cascading failures   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper, adopting the initial load of a node i to be with ki being the degree of the node i, we propose a cascading model based on a load local redistribution rule and examine cascading failures on the typical network, i.e., the BA network with the scale-free property. We find that the BA scale-free network reaches the strongest robustness level in the case of α=1 and the robustness of the network has a positive correlation with the average degree 〈k〉, where the robustness is quantified by a transition from normal state to collapse. In addition, we further discuss the effects of two different attacks for the robustness against cascading failures on our cascading model and find an interesting result, i.e., the effects of two different attacks, strongly depending to the value α. These results may be very helpful for real-life networks to avoid cascading-failure-induced disasters.  相似文献

Considering that not all overload nodes will be removed from networks due to some effective measures to protect them, we propose a new cascading model with a breakdown probability. Adopting the initial load of a node j to be Lj=[kj(∑mΓjkm)]α with kj and Γj being the degree of the node j and the set of its neighboring nodes, respectively, where α is a tunable parameter, we investigate the relationship between some parameters and universal robustness characteristics against cascading failures on scale-free networks. According to a new measure originated from a phase transition from the normal state to collapse, the numerical simulations show that Barabási-Albert (BA) networks reach the strongest robustness level against cascading failures when the tunable parameter α=0.5, while not relating to the breakdown probability. We furthermore explore the effect of the average degree 〈k〉 for network robustness, thus obtaining a positive correlation between 〈k〉 and network robustness. We then analyze the effect of the breakdown probability on the network robustness and confirm by theoretical predictions this universal robustness characteristic observed in simulations. Our work may have practical implications for controlling various cascading-failure-induced disasters in the real world.  相似文献

In this paper, we bring an unequal payoff allocation mechanism into evolutionary public goods game on scale-free networks and focus on the cooperative behavior of the system. The unequal mechanism can be tuned by one parameter α: if α>0, the hub nodes can use its degree advantage to collect more payoff; if α<0, numerous non-hub nodes will obtain more payoff in a single round game. Simulation results show that the cooperation level has a non-trivial dependence on α. For the small enhancement factor r, the cooperator frequency can be promoted by both negative and positive α. For large r, there exists an optimal α that can obtain the highest cooperation level. Our results may sharpen the understanding of the emergence of cooperation induced by the unequal payoff allocation mechanism.  相似文献

Network evolution by different rewiring schemes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Many real world networks, such as social networks, are characterized by rearrangements of the links between nodes (rewiring). Indeed, very few natural networks are static in time, and it is therefore important to study the properties of networks in which rewiring occurs. In this paper, two different rewiring schemes are formulated and compared using a general ordinary differential equation (ODE) model. The equilibrium distributions are analytically derived. It is found that by uniformly choosing a node and a link connected to it, rewiring from different ends of the link yields different equilibrium degree distributions. Rewiring from the neighbor generally produces more high degree nodes. The equilibrium distributions of the ODE model are compared with simulation results of the corresponding stochastic process for rewiring. Conditions are discussed under which our ODE provides a good approximation for the mean of the corresponding stochastic process.  相似文献

We introduce a sandpile model driven by degree on scale-free networks, where the perturbation is triggered at nodes with the same degree. We numerically investigate the avalanche behaviour of sandpile driven by different degrees on scale-free networks. It is observed that the avalanche area has the same behaviour with avalanche size. When the sandpile is driven at nodes with the minimal degree, the avalanches of our model behave similarly to those of the original Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld (BTW) model on scale-free networks. As the degree of driven nodes increases from the minimal value to the maximal value, the avalanche distribution gradually changes from a clean power law, then a mixture of Poissonian and power laws, finally to a Poisson-like distribution. The average avalanche area is found to increase with the degree of driven nodes so that perturbation triggered on higher-degree nodes will result in broader spreading of avalanche propagation.  相似文献

Considering the microscopic characteristics (vehicle speed, road length etc.) of links and macroscopic behaviors of traffic systems, we derive the critical flow generation rate in scale-free networks. And the dynamics of traffic congestion is studied numerically in this paper. It is shown that the queue length increases with microscopic characteristics of links. Additionally, the critical flow generation rate decreases with increase of the network size N, maximum speed vmax and parameter τ. The significance of this finding is that, in order to improve the traffic environment, both the local information for the single link and behaviors of the whole network must be analyzed simultaneously in a traffic system design.  相似文献

We study the transport properties of model networks such as scale-free and Erd?s-Rényi networks as well as a real network. We consider few possibilities for the trnasport problem. We start by studying the conductance G between two arbitrarily chosen nodes where each link has the same unit resistance. Our theoretical analysis for scale-free networks predicts a broad range of values of G, with a power-law tail distribution $\Phi_{\rm SF}(G)\sim G^{-g_G}$ , where gG=2λ-1, and λ is the decay exponent for the scale-free network degree distribution. The power-law tail in ΦSF(G) leads to large values of G, thereby significantly improving the transport in scale-free networks, compared to Erd?s-Rényi networks where the tail of the conductivity distribution decays exponentially. We develop a simple physical picture of the transport to account for the results. The other model for transport is the max-flow model, where conductance is defined as the number of link-independent paths between the two nodes, and find that a similar picture holds. The effects of distance on the value of conductance are considered for both models, and some differences emerge. We then extend our study to the case of multiple sources ans sinks, where the transport is defined between two groups of nodes. We find a fundamental difference between the two forms of flow when considering the quality of the transport with respect to the number of sources, and find an optimal number of sources, or users, for the max-flow case. A qualitative (and partially quantitative) explanation is also given.  相似文献

Considering the heterogeneity of individuals’ influence in the real world, we introduce a preferential selection mechanism to evolutionary games (the Prisoner’s Dilemma Game and the Snowdrift Game) on scale-free networks and focus on the cooperative behavior of the system. In every step, each agent chooses an individual from all its neighbors with a probability proportional to kα indicating the influence of the neighbor, where k is the degree. Simulation results show that the cooperation level has a non-trivial dependence on α. To understand the effect of preferential selection mechanism on the evolution of the system, we investigate the time series of the cooperator frequency in detail. It is found that the cooperator frequency is greatly influenced by the initial strategy of hub nodes when α>0. This observation is confirmed by investigating the system behavior when some hub nodes’ strategies are fixed.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze an evolving model with local information which can generate a class of networks by choosing different values of the parameter p. The model introduced exhibits the transition from unweighted networks to weighted networks because the distribution of the edge weight can be widely tuned. With the increase in the local information, the degree correlation of the network transforms from assortative to disassortative. We also study the distribution of the degree, strength and edge weight, which all show crossover between exponential and scale-free. Finally, an application of the proposed model to the study of the synchronization is considered. It is concluded that the synchronizability is enhanced when the heterogeneity of the edge weight is reduced.  相似文献

We show that the out-degree distribution of the gene regulation network of the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, can be reproduced to high accuracy from the statistics of TF binding sequences. Our observation suggests a particular microscopic mechanism for the observed universal global topology in these networks. The numerical data and analytical solution of our model disagree with a simple power-law for the experimentally obtained degree distribution in the case of yeast.  相似文献

There has been a considerable amount of interest in recent years on the robustness of networks to failures. Many previous studies have concentrated on the effects of node and edge removals on the connectivity structure of a static network; the networks are considered to be static in the sense that no compensatory measures are allowed for recovery of the original structure. Real world networks such as the world wide web, however, are not static and experience a considerable amount of turnover, where nodes and edges are both added and deleted. Considering degree-based node removals, we examine the possibility of preserving networks from these types of disruptions. We recover the original degree distribution by allowing the network to react to the attack by introducing new nodes and attaching their edges via specially tailored schemes. We focus particularly on the case of non-uniform failures, a subject that has received little attention in the context of evolving networks. Using a combination of analytical techniques and numerical simulations, we demonstrate how to preserve the exact degree distribution of the studied networks from various forms of attack.  相似文献

Chinese is spoken by the largest number of people in the world, and it is regarded as one of the most important languages. In this paper, we explore the statistical properties of Chinese language networks (CLNs) within the framework of complex network theory. Based on one of the largest Chinese corpora, i.e. People’s Daily Corpus, we construct two networks (CLN1 and CLN2) from two different respects, with Chinese words as nodes. In CLN1, a link between two nodes exists if they appear next to each other in at least one sentence; in CLN2, a link represents that two nodes appear simultaneously in a sentence. We show that both networks exhibit small-world effect, scale-free structure, hierarchical organization and disassortative mixing. These results indicate that in many topological aspects Chinese language shapes complex networks with organizing principles similar to other previously studied language systems, which shows that different languages may have some common characteristics in their evolution processes. We believe that our research may shed some new light into the Chinese language and find some potentially significant implications.  相似文献

We consider a finite set S={x1,…,xr} and associate to each element xi a probability pi. We then form sequences (N-strings) by drawing at random N elements from S with respect to the probabilities assigned to them. Each N-string generates a network where the elements of S are represented as vertices and edges are drawn between adjacent vertices. These structures are multigraphs having multiple edges and loops. We show that the degree distributions of these networks are invariant under permutations of the generating N-strings. We describe then a constructive method to generate scale-free networks and we show how scale-free topologies naturally emerge when the probabilities are Zipf distributed.  相似文献

When we study the architecture of networks of spatially extended systems the nodes in the network are subject to local correlation structures. In this case, we show that for scale-free networks the traditional way to estimate the clustering coefficient may not be meaningful. Here we explain why and propose an approach that corrects this problem.  相似文献
