In [T2] it was shown that the classifying space of the stable mapping class groups after plus construction ℤ×BΓ+ has an infinite loop space structure. This result and the tools developed in [BM] to analyse transfer maps, are used here to show the following splitting theorem. Let Σ(ℂP +) p E 0∨...∨E p-2 be the “Adams-splitting” of the p-completed suspension spectrum of ℂP +. Then for some infinite loop space W p ,?(ℤ×BΓ+ ) p ≃Ω(E 0)×...×Ω(E p-3 W p ?where Ω E i denotes the infinite loop space associated to the spectrum E i . The homology of Ω E i is known, and as a corollary one obtains large families of torsion classes in the homology of the stable mapping class group. This splitting also detects all the Miller-Morita-Mumford classes. Our results suggest a homotopy theoretic refinement of the Mumford conjecture. The above p-adic splitting uses a certain infinite loop map?α:ℤ×BΓ+ P -1?that induces an isomorphims in rational cohomology precisely if the Mumford conjecture is true. We suggest that α might be a homotopy equivalence. Oblatum 2-VIII-1999 & 28-III-2001?Published online: 18 June 2001  相似文献

This paper considers the isometric extension problem concerning the mapping from the unit sphere S 1(E) of the normed space E into the unit sphere S 1(l (Γ)). We find a condition under which an isometry from S 1(E) into S 1(l (Γ)) can be linearly and isometrically extended to the whole space. Since l (Γ) is universal with respect to isometry for normed spaces, isometric extension problems on a class of normed spaces are solved. More precisely, if E and F are two normed spaces, and if V 0: S 1(E) → S 1(F) is a surjective isometry, where c 00(Γ) ⊆ Fl (Γ), then V 0 can be extended to be an isometric operator defined on the whole space. We prove a “unique crossed product decomposition” result for group measure space II1 factors L (X)⋊Γ arising from arbitrary free ergodic probability measure preserving (p.m.p.) actions of groups Γ in a fairly large family G\mathcal{G}, which contains all free products of a Kazhdan group and a non-trivial group, as well as certain amalgamated free products over an amenable subgroup. We deduce that if T n denotes the group of upper triangular matrices in PSL (n,ℤ), then any free, mixing p.m.p. action of G = \operatornamePSL(n,\mathbbZ)*Tn\operatornamePSL(n,\mathbbZ)\Gamma=\operatorname{PSL}(n,\mathbb{Z})*_{T_{n}}\operatorname{PSL}(n,\mathbb{Z}) is W-superrigid, i.e. any isomorphism between L (X)⋊Γ and an arbitrary group measure space factor L (Y)⋊Λ, comes from a conjugacy of the actions. We also prove that for many groups Γ in the family G\mathcal{G}, the Bernoulli actions of Γ are W-superrigid.  相似文献

We present a sketch of the Fourier theory on the in.nite symmetric group S . As a dual space to S , we suggest the space (groupoid) of Young bitableaux B. The Fourier transform of a function on the infinite symmetric group is a martingale with respect to the so-called full Plancherel measure on the groupoid of bitableaux. The Plancherel formula determines an isometry of the space l 2(S , m) of square summable functions on the infinite symmetric group with the counting measure and the space of square integrable functions on the groupoid of bitableaux with the full Plancherel measure. Let Γ be a regular curve and Lp(Γ),1<p<+∞, be the class of all complex-valued functions f defined on Γ which are such that |f|p is integrable in sense of Lebesgue. In this work, we define the kth p-Faber polynomial Fk.p(z), the kth p-Faber principle part ≈Fk.p(1/z) for Γ, and defined the nth p-Faber-Laurent rational function Rn,p(f, z) and p-generalized modulus of continuity Ωp of a function f of Lp(Γ). We investigate some properties of Fk.p(z) and ≈Fk.p(1/z). And then we prove a direct theorem characterizing the degree of approximation with respect to Ωp in the mean of functions of Lp(Γ) by the rational functions Rn.p(.,z).  相似文献

The Besov spacesB p α,μ (Γ) and Triebel-Lizorkin spacesF p α,μ (Γ) with high order α∈R on a Lipschitz curve Γ are defined. when 1≤p≤∞, 1≤q≤∞. To compare to the classical case a difference characterization of such spaces in the case |α|<1 is given also. It is proved that for any given sequence (σ n ,n ∈ ℕ)=Γ0 ⊂ Γ, where Γ is the set of all directions in ℝ2 (i.e., pairs of orthogonal straight lines) there exists a locally integrable functionf on ℝ2 such that: (1) for almost all directionsσ ∈ Γ\Γ0 the integral ∫f is differentiable with respect to the familyB 2σ of open rectangles with sides parallel to the straight lines fromσ: (2) for every directionσ n ∈ Γ0 the upper derivative of ∫f with respect toB 2σ n equals +∞; (3) for every directionσ ∈ Γ the upper derivative of ∫ |f| with respect toB 2σ equals +∞.  相似文献

We introduce and study the following modified version of the Invariant Subspace Problem: whether every operator T on an infinite-dimensional Banach space has an almost invariant half-space, that is, a subspace Y of infinite dimension and infinite codimension such that Y is of finite codimension in T(Y). We solve this problem in the affirmative for a large class of operators which includes quasinilpotent weighted shift operators on ℓp (1 ≤ p < ∞) or c0.  相似文献

If P is a pleated plane in 3-dimensional hyperbolic space H 3 and α a geodesic in its intrinsic metric we define B(P,α), the average bending of P in the direction α. We show that if P is a convex pleated plane embedded in H 3 then B(P,α)≤K for some universal K. Furthermore if PΓ is a boundary component of the convex hull of a quasi-Fuchsian group Γ then B(PΓ,α)=B(Γ) almost everywhere, where B(Γ) is a constant times the length of the bending lamination βΓ of the pleated surface X Γ=PΓ/Γ. We use these to prove a number of results about quasi-Fuchsian groups including a universal bound on the Lipschitz constant for the map to infinity and a bound on the length of βΓ by a constant times the Euler characteristic of X Γ. Let Γ be a tropical curve (or metric graph), and fix a base point pΓ. We define the Jacobian group J(G) of a finite weighted graph G, and show that the Jacobian J(Γ) is canonically isomorphic to the direct limit of J(G) over all weighted graph models G for Γ. This result is useful for reducing certain questions about the Abel–Jacobi map Φ p :ΓJ(Γ), defined by Mikhalkin and Zharkov, to purely combinatorial questions about weighted graphs. We prove that J(G) is finite if and only if the edges in each 2-connected component of G are commensurable over ℚ. As an application of our direct limit theorem, we derive some local comparison formulas between ρ and \varPhip*(r){\varPhi}_{p}^{*}(\rho) for three different natural “metrics” ρ on J(Γ). One of these formulas implies that Φ p is a tropical isometry when Γ is 2-edge-connected. Another shows that the canonical measure μ Zh  on a metric graph Γ, defined by S. Zhang, measures lengths on Φ p (Γ) with respect to the “sup-norm” on J(Γ).  相似文献

J. Lindenstrauss proves in [L] thatc 0(Γ) is not quasicomplemented inl (Γ) while H. P. Rosenthal in [R] proves that subspaces, whose dual balls are weak* sequentially compact and weak* separable, are quasicomplemented inl (Γ). In this note it is proved that weak* separability of the dual is the precise condition determining whether a subspace, without isomorphic copies ofl 1 and whose dual balls are weak* sequentially compact, is quasicomplemented or not inl (Γ). Especially spaces isomorphic tol p(Γ), for 1<p<∞, have no quasicomplements inl (Γ) if Γ is uncountable.  相似文献

A space Apq^s (R^n) with A : B or A = F and s ∈R, 0 〈 p, q 〈 ∞ either has a trace in Lp(Г), where Г is a compact d-set in R^n with 0 〈 d 〈 n, or D(R^n/Г) is dense in it. Related dichotomy numbers are introduced and calculated.  相似文献

Let B be a Blaschke product with simple zeros in the unit disk, let Λ be the set of its zeros, and let ϕ∈H. It is known that ϕ+BH is a weak* generator of the algebra H/BH if (for B that satisfy the Carleson condition (C)) and only if the sequence ϕ(Λ) is a weak* generator of the algebra l. In this paper, we show that for any Blaschke product B with simple zeros that does not satisfy condition (C), there exists B=B1·…·BN, where N ∈ℕ, and B1, …, BN are Blaschke products satisfying condition (C), there exists a function ϕ∈H such that ϕ(Λ) is a weak* generator of the algebra l, and ϕ+BH is not a weak* generator of the algebra H/BH. Let ϕ∈Mod(S) be an element of the mapping class group of a surface S. We classify algebraic and geometric limits of sequences {Q i X,Y)} i=1 of quasi-Fuchsian hyperbolic 3-manifolds ranging in a Bers slice. When ϕ has infinite order with finite-order restrictions, there is an essential subsurface D ϕS so that the geometric limits have homeomorphism type S×ℝ-D ϕ×{0}. Typically, ϕ has pseudo-Anosov restrictions, and D ϕ has components with negative Euler characteristic; these components correspond to new asymptotically periodic simply degenerate ends of the geometric limit. We show there is an s≥1 depending on ϕ and bounded in terms of S so that {Q si X,Y)} i=1 converges algebraically and geometrically, and we give explicit quasi-isometric models for the limits. The cotangent bundle ofJ (g, n) is a union of complex analytic subvarieties, V(π), the level sets of the function “singularity pattern” of quadratic differentials. Each V(π) is endowed with a natural affine complex structure and volume element. The latter contracts to a real analytic volume element, Μπ, on the unit hypersurface, V1(π), for the Teichmüller metric. Μπ is invariant under the pure mapping class group, γ(g, n), and a certain class of functions is proved to be Lpπ), 0 <p < 1, over the moduli space V1(π)/γ (g, n). In particular, Μπ(V1(π)/γ(g, n)) < ∞, a statement which generalizes a theorem by H. Masur. Research supported by NSF-MCS-8219148 and NSF-DMS-8521620.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to extend the approximation theorem of contiuous functions by Haar polynomials (see Theorem A) to infinite matrices (see Theorem C). The extension to the matricial framework will be based on the one hand on the remark that periodic functions which belong toL (T) may be one-to-one identified with Toeplitz matrices fromB(l 2) (see Theorem 0) and on the other hand on some notions given in the paper. We mention for instance:ms—a unital commutative subalgebra ofl ,C(l 2) the matricial analogue of the space of all continuous periodic functionsC(T), the matricial Haar polynomials, etc. In Section 1 we present some results concerning the spacems—a concept important for this generalization, the proof of the main theorem being given in the second section. We characterise the space of newforms of weight k + 1/2 on Γ0(4N), N odd and square-free (studied by the second and third authors with Vasudevan) under the Atkin-Lehner W(4) operator. As an application, we show that the (±1)-eigensubspaces of the W(4) operator on the space of modular forms of weight k + 1/2 on Γ0(4N) is mapped to modular forms of weight 2k on Γ0(N), under a class of Shimura maps. The existence of such subspaces having this mapping property was conjectured by Zagier in a private communication. One of the special features of the (±1)-eigensubspaces is that the (2k + 1)-th power of the classical theta series of weight 1/2 belongs to the +  eigensubspace and hence this gives interesting congruences for r 2k+1(p 2).  相似文献

Let F n be the free group of rank n, and let Aut+(F n ) be its special automorphism group. For an epimorphism π : F n G of the free group F n onto a finite group G we call the standard congruence subgroup of Aut+(F n ) associated to G and π. In the case n = 2 we fully describe the abelianization of Γ+(G, π) for finite abelian groups G. Moreover, we show that if G is a finite non-perfect group, then Γ+(G, π) ≤ Aut+(F 2) has infinite abelianization.  相似文献

The problem of finding a solution of the Neumann problem for the Laplacian in the form of a simple layer potential Vρ with unknown density ρ is known to be reducible to a boundary integral equation of the second kind to be solved for density. The Neumann problem is examined in a bounded n-dimensional domain Ω+ (n > 2) with a cusp of an outward isolated peak either on its boundary or in its complement Ω = R n +. Let Γ be the common boundary of the domains Ω±, Tr(Γ) be the space of traces on Γ of functions with finite Dirichlet integral over R n , and Tr(Γ)* be the dual space to Tr(Γ). We show that the solution of the Neumann problem for a domain Ω with a cusp of an inward peak may be represented as Vρ, where ρ ∈ Tr(Γ)* is uniquely determined for all Ψ ∈ Tr(Γ)*. If Ω+ is a domain with an inward peak and if Ψ+ ∈ Tr(Γ)*, Ψ+ ⊥ 1, then the solution of the Neumann problem for Ω+ has the representation u + = Vρ+ for some ρ+ ∈ Tr(Γ)* which is unique up to an additive constant ρ0, ρ0 = V −1(1). These results do not hold for domains with outward peak.  相似文献
