Let E be an arc on the unit circle and let L2(E) be the space of all square integrable functions on E. Using the Banach–Steinhaus Theorem and the weak* compactness of the unit ball in the Hardy space, we study the L2 approximation of functions in L2(E) by polynomials. In particular, we will investigate the size of the L2 norms of the approximating polynomials in the complementary arc E of E. The key theme of this work is to highlight the fact that the benefit of achieving good approximation for a function over the arc E by polynomials is more than offset by the large norms of such approximating polynomials on the complementary arc E.  相似文献

Cameron–Liebler line classes are sets of lines in PG(3, q) that contain a fixed number x of lines of every spread. Cameron and Liebler classified Cameron–Liebler line classes for x ∈ {0, 1, 2, q2 ? 1, q2, q2 + 1} and conjectured that no others exist. This conjecture was disproven by Drudge for q = 3 [8] and his counterexample was generalized to a counterexample for any odd q by Bruen and Drudge [4]. A counterexample for q even was found by Govaerts and Penttila [9]. Non‐existence results on Cameron–Liebler line classes were found for different values of x. In this article, we improve the non‐existence results on Cameron–Liebler line classes of Govaerts and Storme [11], for q not a prime. In the present work a mixed finite element based on a least-squares formulation is proposed. In detail, the provided constitutive relation is based on a hyperelastic free energy including terms describing a transversely isotropic material behavior. Basis for the element formulation is a weak form resulting from a least-squares method, see e.g. [1]. The L2-norm minimization of the residuals of the given first-order system of differential equations leads to a functional depending on displacements and stresses. The interpolation of the unknowns is executed using different approximation spaces for the stresses (Wq (div, Ω)) and the displacements (W1,p(Ω)), under consideration of suitable p and q. For the approximation of the stresses vector-valued shape functions of Raviart-Thomas type, related to the edges of the respective triangular element, are applied. Standard interpolation polynomials are used for the continuous approximation of the displacements. The performance of the proposed formulation will be investigated considering a numerical example. The author defined the concept order components in [2] and gave a new characterization of sporadic simple groups by their order components in [7]. Afterwards the following groups were characterized by the author: G2(q), q = 0 (mod 3)[8]; E8(q)[9]; Suzuki-Ree groups[10]; PSL2(q)[11]. Here the author will continue such kind of characterization and prove that:Theorem 1. Let G be a finite group, M = 3D4(q). If G and M has the same order components, then G M.And the following theorems follows from Theorem 1.Theorem 2. (Thompsons Conjecture) Let G be a finite group, Z(G) = 1,M = 3D4(q). Optimal query error of quantum approximation on some Sobolev classes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We study the approximation of the imbedding of functions from anisotropic and general-ized Sobolev classes into Lq([0,1]d) space in the quantum model of computation. Based on the quantum algorithms for approximation of finite imbedding from LpN to LNq , we develop quantum algorithms for approximating the imbedding from anisotropic Sobolev classes B(Wpr ([0,1]d)) to Lq([0,1]d) space for all 1 q,p ∞ and prove their optimality. Our results show that for p < q the quantum model of computation can bring a speedup roughly up to a squaring of the rate in the classical deterministic and randomized settings.  相似文献

We consider best N term approximation using anisotropic tensor product wavelet bases ("sparse grids"). We introduce a tensor product structure ⊗q on certain quasi-Banach spaces. We prove that the approximation spaces Aαq(L2) and Aαq(H1) equal tensor products of Besov spaces Bαq(Lq), e.g., Aαq(L2([0,1]d)) = Bαq(Lq([0,1])) ⊗q · ⊗q Bαq · ·(Lq([0,1])). Solutions to elliptic partial differential equations on polygonal/polyhedral domains belong to these new scales of Besov spaces.  相似文献

In this paper, we determine the exact value of average n − K width n(Wrpq(R), Lq(R)) of Sobolev-Wiener class Wrpq(R) in the metric Lq(R) for 1 > qp > ∞ and get the value of n(Wrp(R), Lqp(R)) for the dual case. In this paper, we describe some basic properties of W q (A), extending known results on the classical numerical range. We also study the properties of rq considered as a norm (seminorm if q=0) on Mn .Finally, we characterize those linear operators L on Mn that leave Wq ,rq of [rtilde]q invariant. Extension of some of our results to the infinite dimensional case is discussed, and open problems are mentioned.  相似文献

We study in detail Hodge–Helmholtz decompositions in nonsmooth exterior domains Ω??N filled with inhomogeneous and anisotropic media. We show decompositions of alternating differential forms of rank q belonging to the weighted L2‐space Ls2, q(Ω), s∈?, into irrotational and solenoidal q‐forms. These decompositions are essential tools, for example, in electro‐magnetic theory for exterior domains. To the best of our knowledge, these decompositions in exterior domains with nonsmooth boundaries and inhomogeneous and anisotropic media are fully new results. Two inverse problems for the Sturm-Liouville operator Ly = s-y″ + q(x)y on the interval [0, fy] are studied. For θ ⩾ 0, there is a mapping F:W 2θl B θ, F(σ) = {s k }1, related to the first of these problems, where W 2 = W 2[0, π] is the Sobolev space, σ = ∫ q is a primitive of the potential q, and l B θ is a specially constructed finite-dimensional extension of the weighted space l 2θ, where we place the regularized spectral data s = {s k }1 in the problem of reconstruction from two spectra. The main result is uniform lower and upper bounds for ∥σ - σ1θ via the l B θ-norm ∥s − s1θ of the difference of regularized spectral data. A similar result is obtained for the second inverse problem, that is, the problem of reconstructing the potential from the spectral function of the operator L generated by the Dirichlet boundary conditions. The result is new even for the classical case qL 2, which corresponds to θ = 1.  相似文献

Any continuous linear operator T: LpLq has a natural vector-valued extension T: Lp(l) → Lq(l) which is automatically continuous. Relations between the norms of these operators in the cases of p = q and r = 2 were considered by Marcinkiewicz -Zygmund [28], Herz [14] and Krivine [19] - [21]. In this paper we study systematically these relations and given some applications. It turns out that some known results can be proved in a simple way as a consequence of these developments.  相似文献

In this paper we prove unique solvability of the generalized Stokes resolvent equations in an infinite layer Ω0 = ℝn –1 × (–1, 1), n ≥ 2, in Lq ‐Sobolev spaces, 1 < q < ∞, with slip boundary condition of on the “upper boundary” ∂Ω+0 = ℝn –1 × {1} and non‐slip boundary condition on the “lower boundary” ∂Ω0 = ℝn –1 × {–1}. The solution operator to the Stokes system will be expressed with the aid of the solution operators of the Laplace resolvent equation and a Mikhlin multiplier operator acting on the boundary. We show the first known example for a pattern q for which is not an integer, where Sn(q) denotes the number of permutations of length n avoiding the pattern q. We find the exact value of the limit and show that it is irrational, but algebraic. Then we generalize our results to an infinite sequence of patterns. We provide further generalizations that start explaining why certain patterns are easier to avoid than others. Finally, we show that if q is a layered pattern of length k, then L(q)(k-1)2 holds.  相似文献

Abstract

Order components of a finite group are introduced in Chen [Chen, G. Y. (1996c) On Thompson's conjecture. J. Algebra 185:184–193]. It was proved that PSL(3, q), where q is an odd prime power, is uniquely determined by its order components [Iranmanesh, A., Alavi, S. H., Khosravi, B. (2002a). A characterization of PSL(3, q) where q is an odd prime power. J. Pure Appl. Algebra 170(2–3): 243–254]. Also in Iranmanesh et al. [Iranmanesh, A., Alavi, S. H., Khosravi, B. (2002b). A characterization of PSL(3, q) where q = 2 n . Acta Math. Sinica, English Ser. 18(3):463–472] and [Iranmanesh, A., Alavi, S. H. (2002). A characterization of simple groups PSL(5, q). Bull. Austral. Math. Soc. 65:211–222] it was proved that PSL(3, q) for q = 2 n and PSL(5, q) are uniquely determined by their order components. In this paper we prove that PSL(p, q) can be uniquely determined by its order components, where p is an odd prime number. A main consequence of our results is the validity of Thompson's conjecture for the groups under consideration.  相似文献
