We have prepared a hydrophilic molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for the hydrophobic compound bisphenol A (BPA) in aqueous solution using 3-acrylamido-N,N,N-trimethylpropan-1-aminium chloride (AMTC) as the functional monomer. Under redox-polymerization conditions, BPA forms an ion-pair with AMTC, which was confirmed by 1H-NMR titration. The imprinting effect in aqueous solution was evaluated by comparison of this material with the corresponding non-imprinted polymer (NIP) and with a control polymer (CP) bearing no AMTC. The MIP showed the highest activity among the three polymers, and the imprinting factors as calculated from the amount of BPA bound to the MIP divided by the amounts bound to NIP and CP, respectively, are 1.8 and 6.0. The MIP was selective for BPA in aqueous solution, while structurally related compounds are not recognized. Such a selectivity for a hydrophobic compound is rarely observed in aqueous medium because non-specific binding of BPA inevitably leads to hydrophobic interaction.

A key issue in the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) is the identification and optimisation of the main factors that affect the material structure and its molecular recognition properties. This paper describes the application of an experimental design and multivariate analysis method for the synthesis of bisphenol A (BPA)-selective MIPs. Six factors with a large impact on the MIP synthesis and its analytical performance have been optimised: the amount of template, the type and the percentage of functional and cross-linking monomers, the polymerisation method (i.e. thermal or UV initiation) and the porogenic solvent. The polymers have been prepared in small-scale (mini-MIPs) and, after careful removal of the template, their BPA rebinding capacity has been evaluated and related to the MIP composition. Among the two functional monomers tested, namely 4-vinylpyridine (4-vpy) and methacrylic acid (MAA), the former rendered the best selectivity for BPA analysis. The partial least squares (PLS) models revealed that the photoinitiated polymers with a 1:1 ratio of 4-vinylpyridine to cross-linker (EDMA or TRIM) yield the highest specific binding. Such procedure is time and cost effective and can be used as a general tool in the preparation of MIPs for different analytes.  相似文献

Summary Molecularly imprinted polymers were prepared using 2-vinylpyridine and/or methacrylic acid as functional monomers in a self-assembly imprinting protocol. The resulting polymers were analyzed in aqueous media, and the effects from the pH of the mobile phase and the degree of added organic solvent were investigated. The results are indicative of the importance of ionic bonds in conjunction with hydrophobic interactions in the formation of the complexes between the analyte and the polymers.  相似文献

The use of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) prepared by ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) for bisphenol A (BPA) was reported in this article. The resulting MIPs have high imprinting and adsorption capacities, and can be used for separation and determination of BPA in environmental water samples. The successful application of ROMP in the molecular imprinting field is described here. For the first time, two cross-linkers (dicyclopentadiene and 2,5-norbornadiene) and two Grubbs catalysts (first and second generation) were investigated to compare their effects on the binding performance of MIPs. The ROMP technique is able to create the imprinted polymers within 1 h under mild conditions. Furthermore, it can provide MIPs with obvious imprinting effects towards the template, very fast template rebinding kinetics, high binding capacity and appreciable selectivity over structurally related compounds. The adsorption process for MIPs in this study can be completed within 45 min, which is much faster than that of bulk MIPs synthesized by traditional free-radical polymerization. The resulting imprinting polymer was evaluated for its use as a sorbent support in an off-line solid-phase extraction approach to recover BPA from diluted aqueous samples. The optimized extraction protocol resulted in a reliable MISPE method suitable for selective extraction and preconcentration of BPA from tap water, human urine and liquid milk samples. This article demonstrates the practical feasibility of the MIPs prepared via ROMP as solid-phase extraction materials.  相似文献

Uniformly sized, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) of bisphenol A (BPA), one of many potential endocrine disruptors, were prepared by selective surface modification and immobilized at intervals of functional monomers with 4,4′‐methylenebisphenol as a pseudotemplate. MIPs for BPA were prepared with 4‐vinyl pyridine immobilized at the most effective interval and with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate monomer as a functional crosslinker. The prepared MIPs were surface‐modified with both polar and ionic monomers with different modification methods and then evaluated to reveal their selectivity and retention characteristics. Some of the modified MIPs showed significant selectivity for BPA retention when they were used as high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) stationary phases, in comparison with ordinary MIPs. This effect of molecular imprinting was retained even after the surface modification of MIPs. The MIPs employed as pretreatment media for a column‐switching HPLC system provided a detection limit as low as 1 ng/L (ppt) by electrochemical detection. Actual samples, including Suwannee River natural organic matter (NOM), were analyzed for BPA, and BPA was quantitatively detected in NOM even with the combination with widely used UV detection because of the effective removal of interference afforded by an effective surface modification of the MIPs. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conventional molecular imprinting technology allows the synthesis in organic solvents of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) selective toward relatively low molecular weight compounds. However, synthesis in aqueous media of chemically and mechanically stable MIPs that can recognize biomolecules such as peptides and proteins still is a great challenge. In this article, we report the successful synthesis of peptide-selective MIPs in aqueous solution. HPLC evaluation of these polymers with a water-based mobile phase showed their selectivity for the peptide, [Sar1,Ala8]angiotensin II (SA), that had been used as the template, but not for its parent peptide angiotensin II (AII). The binding capacity and selectivity of our MIPs depended on the ratio of template to functional monomer in the polymerization mixture, as well as on the ionic strength and pH of the chromatographic mobile phase. These MIPs can be used for chromatographic detection of the octapeptide [Sar1,Ala8]angiotensin II in aqueous solution, with a detection limit of 8 pmol and a response that is linear (r2>0.99) over the concentration range 0.4-20 μM.  相似文献

A bisphenol A (BPA) molecularly imprinted polymer, the composition of which was optimised using a chemometric approach, has been applied to the selective preconcentration of the template from aqueous samples. The selectivity of the polymer toward BPA and related compounds was evaluated chromatographically. The BPA-imprinted polymer was packed in a column and used for continuous on-column solid-phase extraction (MISPE) of aqueous samples followed by subsequent analysis by HPLC with fluorescence detection of the eluted fractions. The composition of the washing solvent applied in the MISPE procedure was optimised to favour the specific interactions of the MIP with BPA and to remove the non-selectively bound matrix components. The MISPE method has proven to be effective for selective preconcentration of BPA in aqueous samples (recoveries >84% obtained in the eluate for 10–100 mL sample volumes) enabling detection and quantification limits of 1.0 and 3.3 ng mL–1, respectively (based on 25 mL sample size). Analytical recoveries were between 92 and 101% for river water samples spiked with known amounts of BPA (30, 60, and 80 ng mL–1); relative standard deviations (RSD) were lower than 5.0%.  相似文献

A novel nanocomposite of molecularly imprinted polymers and graphene sheets was fabricated and used to obtain a highly conductive acetylene black paste electrode with high conductivity for the detection of bisphenol A. The two‐dimensional structure and the chemical functionality of graphene provide an excellent surface for the enhancement of the sensitivity of the electrochemical sensor and the specificity of molecularly imprinted polymers to improve detection of bisphenol A. The synergistic effect between graphene and molecularly imprinted polymers confers the nanocomposite with superior conductivity, broadened effective surface area and outstanding electrochemical performance. Factors affecting the performance of the imprinted sensor such as molecularly imprinted polymers concentration, foster time and scan rate are discussed. The sensor successfully detects bisphenol A with a wide linear range of 3.21 × 10?10 to 2.8 × 10?1 g/L (R = 0.995) and a detection limit of 9.63 × 10?11g/L. The fabricated sensor also possessed high selectivity and stability and exhibits potential for environmental detection of contaminants and food safety inspection.  相似文献

A water compatible molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) coated stir bar for bisphenol A(BPA) was prepared with 3,3',5,5'-tetrabromobisphenol A as the dummy template molecule in this study. The dummy molecularly imprinted polymers coated stir bar (DMIPs-SB) showed better selectivity than the bars coated with polydimethylsiloxane or non-imprinted polymers when used to extract BPA and its three analogues. The saturated adsorption amount of the DMIPs coating was 3.0 times over that of the non-imprinted polymers coating. To achieve the optimum extraction performance, several parameters, including extraction and desorption time, pH value, adsorption temperature and stirring speed were investigated. The high-performance liquid chromatography combined with the DMIPs-SB was employed in the analysis of BPA in aqueous solution. The linear range of BPA concentration in aqueous medium was 0.0228-2.28 ng/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.9994 and the detection limit was about 6.84 × 10(-3) ng/mL based on three times ratio of signal to noise. This method was directly applied to the determination of trace BPA in milk with satisfactory results.  相似文献

New hydrophilic molecularly imprinted melamine-urea-formaldehyde monolithic resin (MIMR) is synthesized using dopamine hydrochloride as a dummy template via in-situ polymerization directly within pipette tips and it presents special molecular recognition to plant growth regulators in aqueous matrices. Hydrophilic groups (such as hydroxyl groups, imino groups, and amino groups) can be introduced into MIMR by melamine– urea–formaldehyde resin, which make MIMR materials compatible with aqueous media and show their specific molecular recognition in aqueous sample solutions. Meanwhile, monolithic structures avoid the influence of uneven filling on the extraction efficiency. Various parameters affecting the selective recognition of MIMR have been optimized, such as molar ratio of melamine to urea, molar ratio of melamine and urea to formaldehyde, the amount of template and porogen. The prepared MIMR is applied as the sorbents of solid phase extraction (SPE) for sensitive and selective recognition of three plant growth regulators (p-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, 1-naphthaleneacetic acid and 2.4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) in bean sprouts. Considering its excellent hydrophilicity and specificity, MIMR–SPE is promising to be a potential pretreatment strategy in biological, environmental, and clinical fields.  相似文献

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for citrinin (Cit) with 1‐hydroxy‐2‐naphthoic acid (HNA) as mimic template were prepared and the molecularly imprinted SPE method was developed for the detection of Cit in rice with HPLC. The adsorption properties of HNA and Cit on the MIPs and nonimprinted polymers were investigated. It proved that MIPs showed higher selectivity adsorption to HNA and Cit than nonimprinted polymers were. The recoveries of Cit in rice were in the range of 86.7–97.7%. The spiked rice samples and five rice samples in Beijing market were detected using molecularly imprinted SPE method and satisfied results were obtained as discussed in this article.  相似文献

A unique stir bar coated with dummy molecularly imprinted polymers for bisphenol A was prepared by sol-gel technique. The scanning electron microscopic image of the coating presented a homogeneous surface with a thickness of about 57 ± 2.5 μm. The Fourier transform infrared spectrum of the coating proved the incorporating of dummy molecularly imprinted polymers with the sol-gel network. When used to extract bisphenol A from aqueous solution containing bisphenol A and its three analogs (4-tert-butylphenol, 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, and 3,3',5,5'-tetrabromo-bisphenol A). Dummy molecularly imprinted polymers-coated stir bar showed better selectivity than the bars coated with polydimethylsiloxane or non-imprinted polymers. The extraction conditions including stirring speed, pH, and extraction time were optimized. After back extraction with methanol, the extracts were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection. The linear range was 0.0228-0.456 ng/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.9994 and the detection limit was about 5.70 × 10(-3) ng/mL based on three times ratio of signal-to-noise. The method was applied to the determination of trace bisphenol A in tap water.  相似文献

In this study, the molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) of capsaicin are prepared by bulk polymerization (MIPs1), precipitation polymerization (MIPs2), and surface imprinting technology based on SiO2/Fe3O4 particles (MIPs3), respectively. MIPs are characterized by scanning electron microscopy and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics of these composites are also investigated to estimate their capacity to rebind capsaicin. The adsorption kinetics show that the adsorption process of MIPs1 is fitted to pseudo first‐order kinetic model, while the kinetic properties of MIPs2 and MIPs3 are well described by pseudo second‐order kinetic model. Adsorption thermodynamics analysis indicated that there are two kinds of binding sites with different affinity in each MIPs, whereas only one kind of binding site in non‐imprinted polymers. All adsorption isotherms of MIPs are fitted to Freundlich models, illustrated that binding sites are distributed heterogeneously in the surface of the materials, and the adsorption might occur in the multimolecular layers. Comparisons of experimental data of three MIPs are achieved and the results show that MIPs3 has the best affinity and absorption capacity to capsaicin. Moreover, the MIPs3 maintain the magnetic properties of Fe3O4 particles, which will be applied to the rapid separation of capsaicin from chili peppers samples. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) displaying selective binding properties for the mycotoxin ochratoxin A (OTA) in polar/protic media were prepared. Crucial to the success of these efforts was the implementation of rationally designed OTA mimics as templates and a set of novel basic and neutral functional monomers, allowing the maximization of the template-functional monomer association via ion-pairing, hydrophobic and steric interactions. MIPs prepared with a 20:1:1:3 molar ratio of cross-linking agent, template mimic, basic functional monomer and hydrophobic auxiliary monomer produced polymers with superior recognition properties compared to materials generated with other stoichiometries. Chromatographic evaluation using the OTA mimics, OTA and a set of structurally closely related compounds as analytes revealed pronounced substrate selectivity of these MIPs in polar/protic media, the templates and OTA being bound with significantly higher affinities. Complementary substrate selectivities/affinities were observed in aprotic and apolar solvents. The possibility of solvent-dependent tuning of substrate selectivity/affinity and the high binding capacity recommend the developed MIPs as promising solid-phase extraction adsorbents for clean-up and pre-concentration of OTA from various biologically relevant matrices.  相似文献

Recent efforts in the investigation of chromatographic characterization of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have focused mainly on the nature of heterogeneous binding sites. More data on the thermodynamics than on the kinetic features of MIP columns have been published. The present article addresses the sources of peak broadening and tailing, which are the main drawbacks often associated with imprinted polymers in chromatography for practical applications. With use of the theory of nonlinear chromatography, the peak properties of a MIP column, including the retention and peak broadening and tailing, can be well interpreted. Efforts to improve chromatographic efficiency using MIPs prepared by approaches different from the conventional method, including covalent imprinting and the format of uniformly sized spherical microbeads, are reviewed and discussed. This review leads to the conclusion that nonlinear chromatography theory is useful for characterizing chromatographic features of MIP columns, since a MIP is essentially an affinity-based chromatographic stationary phase. We expect more theoretical and experimental studies on the kinetic aspects of MIP columns, especially the factors influencing the apparent rate constant, as well as the analysis of the influences of mobile-phase composition on the chromatographic performance. In addition to revealing the affinity interaction by molecular recognition, slow nonspecific interactions which may be inherited from the imperfect imprinting and may be involved in the rebinding of the template to MIPs also need to be characterized. Figure The peak broadening and tailing associated often with molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) in column chromatography for practical applications can be well characterized by the theory of nonlinear chromatography.  相似文献

Molecular imprints were prepared utilizing only weak bonds between the print molecule and functional monomers; the bonding forces used in the imprinting process were only those weaker than covalent and ionic bonds. Methacrylate-based molecular imprints were prepared using a number of chiral compounds, including N-protected amino acid derivatives, as print molecules. Methacrylic acid was used as the functional monomer because the acid function of the monomer forms hydrogen bonds with a variety of polar functionalities, such as carboxylic acids, carbamates, heteroatoms and carboxylic esters, of the print molecule. Bulk polymers were prepared, ground and sieved to particles of size less than 25 microns, packed into high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) columns and used for enantiomeric separations in the HPLC mode. The polymers were shown to effect efficient enantiomeric resolution of a racemate of the print molecule in addition to substrate selectivity for the print molecule in a mixture of substrates with very similar structures. For example, the enantiomers of Cbz-aspartic acid and Cbz-glutamic acid (Cbz = carbobenzoxy) were resolved with separation factors of 1.9 and 2.5, respectively, on polymers with molecular imprints of the L-form of the respective compounds. In addition, these polymers, prepared against Cbz-L-aspartic acid and Cbz-L-glutamic acid, respectively, had the ability to bind selectively the print molecule from a mixture of both racemates, although the two compounds differ only by one methylene group. The results presented represent a substantial widening of the scope of molecular imprinting in that it may now be possible to prepare molecular imprints against a very large number of compounds.  相似文献
