We consider the coupling of dual‐mixed finite elements and boundary elements to solve a mixed Dirichlet–Neumann problem of plane elasticity. We derive an a‐posteriori error estimate that is based on the solution of local Dirichlet problems and on a residual term defined on the coupling interface. The general error estimate does not make use of any special finite element or boundary element spaces. Here the residual term is given in a negative order Sobolev norm. In practical applications, where a certain boundary element subspace is used, this norm can be estimated by weighted local L2‐norms. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this article, we establish a hierarchical a posteriori error estimate for a coupling of finite elements and boundary elements for a fluid‐structure interaction problem posed in two and three dimensions. These methods combine boundary elements for the exterior fluid and finite elements for the elastic structure. We consider two weak formulations, a nonsymmetric one and a symmetric one, which are both uniquely solvable. We present the reliability and efficiency of the error estimates. For the two dimensional case, we compute local error indicators which allow us to develop an adaptive mesh refinement strategy on triangles. For the three dimensional case, we use hexahedrons as elements. Numerical experiments underline our theoretical results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary In this paper we apply the coupling of boundary integral and finite element methods to solve a nonlinear exterior Dirichlet problem in the plane. Specifically, the boundary value problem consists of a nonlinear second order elliptic equation in divergence form in a bounded inner region, and the Laplace equation in the corresponding unbounded exterior region, in addition to appropriate boundary and transmission conditions. The main feature of the coupling method utilized here consists in the reduction of the nonlinear exterior boundary value problem to an equivalent monotone operator equation. We provide sufficient conditions for the coefficients of the nonlinear elliptic equation from which existence, uniqueness and approximation results are established. Then, we consider the case where the corresponding operator is strongly monotone and Lipschitz-continuous, and derive asymptotic error estimates for a boundary-finite element solution. We prove the unique solvability of the discrete operator equations, and based on a Strang type abstract error estimate, we show the strong convergence of the approximated solutions. Moreover, under additional regularity assumptions on the solution of the continous operator equation, the asymptotic rate of convergenceO (h) is obtained. The first author's research was partly supported by the U.S. Army Research Office through the Mathematical Science Institute of Cornell University, by the Universidad de Concepción through the Facultad de Ciencias, Dirección de Investigación and Vicerretoria, and by FONDECYT-Chile through Project 91-386.  相似文献

In this paper, we apply the boundary integral method to the linearized rotating Navier-Stokes equations in exterior domain. Introducing some open ball which decomposes the exterior domain into a finite domain and an infinite domain, we obtain a coupled problem by the linearized rotating Navier-Stokes equations in finite domain and a boundary integral equation without using the artificial boundary condition. For the coupled problem, we show the existence and uniqueness of solution. Finally, we study the finite element approximation for the coupled problem and obtain the error estimate between the solution of the coupled problem and its approximation solution.  相似文献

Summary.   In this paper we establish a error estimation on the boundary for the solution of an exterior Neumann problem in . To solve this problem we consider an integral representation which depends from the solution of a boundary integral equation. We use a full piecewise linear discretisation which on one hand leads to a simple numerical algorithm but on the other hand the error analysis becomes more difficult due to the singularity of the integral kernel. We construct a particular approximation for the solution of the boundary integral equation, for the solution of the Neumann problem and its gradient on the boundary and estimate their error. The three-dimensional interface problem with the homogeneous Lamé system in an unbounded exterior domain and holonomic material behaviour in a bounded interior Lipschitz domain is considered. Existence and uniqueness of solutions of the interface problem are obtained rewriting the exterior problem in terms of boundary integral operators following the symmetric coupling procedure. The numerical approximation of the solutions consists in coupling of the boundary element method (BEM) and the finite element method (FEM). A Céa-like error estimate is presented for the discrete solutions of the numerical procedure proving its convergence.  相似文献

Summary. This paper analyzes the rate of convergence of the h-p version of the coupling of the finite element and boundary element method for transmission problems with a linear differential operator with variable coefficients in a bounded polyhedral domain and with constant coefficients in the exterior domain . This procedure uses the variational formulation of the differential equation in and involves integral operators on the interface between and . The finite elements are used to obtain approximate solutions of the differential equation in and the boundary elements are used to obtain approximate solutions of the integral equations. For given piecewise analytic data we show that the Galerkin solution of this coupling procedure converges exponentially fast in the energy norm if the h-p version is used both for finite elements and boundary elements. We consider a linear integral equation with a hypersingular integral treated in the sense of the Hadamard finite value. This equation arises in the solution of the Neumann boundary value problem for the Laplace equation with a representation of a solution in the form of a double-layer potential. We consider the case in which the interior or exterior boundary value problem is solved in a domain; whose boundary is a smooth closed surface, and an integral equation is written out on that surface. For the integral operator in that equation, we suggest quadrature formulas like the method of vortical frames with a regularization, which provides its approximation on the entire surface for the use of a nonstructured partition. We construct a numerical scheme for the integral equation on the basis of suggested quadrature formulas, prove an estimate for the norm of the inverse matrix of the related system of linear equations and the uniform convergence of numerical solutions to the exact solution of the hypersingular integral equation on the grid.  相似文献

Discontinuous Stable Elements for the Incompressible Flow   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this paper, we derive a discontinuous Galerkin finite element formulation for the Stokes equations and a group of stable elements associated with the formulation. We prove that these elements satisfy the new inf–sup condition and can be used to solve incompressible flow problems. Associated with these stable elements, optimal error estimates for the approximation of both velocity and pressure in L 2 norm are obtained for the Stokes problems, as well as an optimal error estimate for the approximation of velocity in a mesh dependent norm.  相似文献

A coupling of FEM-BEM for a kind of Signorini contact problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we consider a kind of coupled nonlinear problem with Signorini contact conditions. To solve this problem, we discuss a new coupling of finite element and boundary element by adding an auxiliary circle. We first derive an asymptotic error estimate of the approximation to the coupled FEM-BEM variational inequality. Then we design an iterative method for solving the coupled system, in which only three standard subproblems without involving any boundary integral equation are solved. It will be shown that the convergence speed of this iteration method is independent of the mesh size.  相似文献

We investigate the numerical approximation of the nonlinear Molodensky problem, which reconstructs the surface of the earth from the gravitational potential and the gravity vector. The method, based on a smoothed Nash–Hörmander iteration, solves a sequence of exterior oblique Robin problems and uses a regularization based on a higher-order heat equation to overcome the loss of derivatives in the surface update. In particular, we obtain a quantitative a priori estimate for the error after $m$ steps, justify the use of smoothing operators based on the heat equation, and comment on the accurate evaluation of the Hessian of the gravitational potential on the surface, using a representation in terms of a hypersingular integral. A boundary element method is used to solve the exterior problem. Numerical results compare the error between the approximation and the exact solution in a model problem.  相似文献

We apply the coupling of boundary integral and finite element methods to study the weak solvability of certain exterior boundary value problems with nonlinear transmission conditions. As a model we consider a nonlinear second order elliptic equation in divergence form in a bounded inner region of the plane coupled with the Laplace equation in the corresponding exterior domain. The flux jump across the common nonlinear-linear interface is unknown and assumed to depend nonlinearly on the Dirichlet data. We establish the associated variational formulation in an operator equation setting and provide existence, uniqueness and approximation results.  相似文献

We consider a linear integral equation with a supersingular integral treated in the sense of the Hadamard finite value, which arises in the solution of the Neumann boundary value problem for the Laplace equation with the representation of the solution in the form of a doublelayer potential. We consider the case in which the exterior boundary value problem is solved outside a plane surface (a screen). For the integral operator in the above-mentioned equation, we suggest quadrature formulas of the vortex loop method with regularization, which provide its approximation on the entire surface when using an unstructured partition. In the problem in question, the derivative of the unknown density of the double-layer potential, as well as the errors of quadrature formulas, has singularities in a neighborhood of the screen edge. We construct a numerical scheme for the integral equation on the basis of the suggested quadrature formulas and prove an estimate for the norm of the inverse matrix of the resulting system of linear equations and the uniform convergence of the numerical solutions to the exact solution of the supersingular integral equation on the grid.  相似文献

We consider a parametric family of boundary value problems for a diffusion equation with a diffusion coefficient equal to a small constant in a subdomain. Such problems are not uniformly well-posed when the constant gets small. However, in a series of papers, Bakhvalov and Knyazev have suggested a natural splitting of the problem into two well-posed problems. Using this idea, we prove a uniform finite element error estimate for our model problem in the standard parameter-independent Sobolev norm. We also study uniform regularity of the transmission problem, needed for approximation. A traditional finite element method with only one additional assumption, namely, that the boundary of the subdomain with the small coefficient does not cut any finite element, is considered.

One interpretation of our main theorem is in terms of regularization. Our FEM problem can be viewed as resulting from a Lavrentiev regularization and a Ritz-Galerkin approximation of a symmetric ill-posed problem. Our error estimate can then be used to find an optimal regularization parameter together with the optimal dimension of the approximation subspace.

In this paper, we first give error estimates for the moving least square (MLS) approximation in the Hk norm in two dimensions when nodes and weight functions satisfy certain conditions. This two-dimensional error results can be applied to the surface of a three-dimensional domain. Then combining boundary integral equations (BIEs) and the MLS approximation, a meshless Galerkin algorithm, the Galerkin boundary node method (GBNM), is presented. The optimal asymptotic error estimates of the GBNM for three-dimensional BIEs are derived. Finally, taking the Dirichlet problem of Laplace equation as an example, we set up a framework for error estimates of the GBNM for boundary value problems in three dimensions.  相似文献

In this paper we prove error estimates for a piecewise average interpolation on anisotropic rectangular elements, i.e., rectangles with sides of different orders, in two and three dimensions.

Our error estimates are valid under the condition that neighboring elements have comparable size. This is a very mild assumption that includes more general meshes than those allowed in previous papers. In particular, strong anisotropic meshes arising naturally in the approximation of problems with boundary layers fall under our hypotheses.

Moreover, we generalize the error estimates allowing on the right-hand side some weighted Sobolev norms. This extension is of interest in singularly perturbed problems.

Finally, we consider the approximation of functions vanishing on the boundary by finite element functions with the same property, a point that was not considered in previous papers on average interpolations for anisotropic elements.

As an application we consider the approximation of a singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion equation and show that, as a consequence of our results, almost optimal order error estimates in the energy norm, valid uniformly in the perturbation parameter, can be obtained.

The exterior boundary value problems of Laplace equation and linear elastic equations are considered. A series of approximate infinite boundary conditions are given. Then the original problem is reduced to a boundary value problem on a bounded domain. The finite element approximation of this problem and its error estimate are obtained. Finally, a numerical example shows that this method is very effective.  相似文献

In this paper, based on the natural boundary reduction advanced by Feng and Yu, we couple the finite element approach with the natural boundary element method to study the weak solvability and Galerkin approximation of a class of nonlinear exterior boundary value problems. The analysis is mainly based on the variational formulation with constraints. We prove the error estimate of the finite element solution and obtain the asymptotic rate of convergence. Finally, we also give a numerical example.

Based on the work of Xu and Zhou(2000),this paper makes a further discussion on conforming finite elements approximation for Steklov eigenvalue problems, and proves a local a priori error estimate and a new local a posteriori error estimate in ||·||1,Ω0 norm for conforming elements eigenfunction, which has not been studied in existing literatures.  相似文献
