A variant of determining the elastic characteristics of composites containing irregularly oriented shape-anisotropic filler particles of two types (short fibers and thin platelets) is considered. The effective elastic constants of the composites are calculated by using the method of orientational averaging of elastic characteristics of isolated transversely isotropic structural elements reinforced with unidirectionally oriented short fibers or coplanarly arranged thin platelets. The superposition of elastic properties of the irregularly oriented structural elements, with account of their orientational distribution in the composite material, is accepted. The calculation results are compared with experimental data for the effective elastic moduli of polymeric composites reinforced with short glass fibers and of polymeric nanocomposites containing the platelet-type particles of organically modified montmorillonite. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 42, No. 3, pp. 285–300, May–June, 2006.  相似文献

Analysis results for the elastic properties of a composite with a small amount of coplanarly arranged platelike filler particles are presented. The geometrical form of the particles is described by an oblate ellipsoid of revolution. The calculations are performed by formulas obtained by using the Eshelby approach for media with a low concentration of inclusions. The effect of anisometry of the ellipsoidal particles and of the ratio between the elastic moduli of the filler and matrix on the effective elastic constants of the composite is discussed. Calculation results are compared with experimental data for the elastic moduli of a nanocomposite containing completely exfoliated particles of an unmodified montmorillonite. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 44, No. 4, pp. 493–504, July–August, 2008.  相似文献

In this paper the method of conditional moments is developed for the case of a two–component matrix composite with randomly distributed unidirectional and arbitrarily oriented ellipsoidal inclusions. The algorithm for determination of the effective elastic properties of composites from the given elastic constants of the components and geometrical parameters and orientation of inclusions is discussed. It is assumed that the components of the composite show orthotropic symmetry of thermoelastic properties. As a numerical example arbolite (straw particle inclusions in a cement matrix) is considered. The dependencies of Young's moduli, Poisson's ratios and shear moduli from the concentration of inclusions and for certain orientations of the inclusions are predicted and discussed. A variant of a stepwise analysis of the elastic properties of a carbon-nanotube-reinforced composite with account of the effect of interphase layers between the nanotubes and the polymer matrix is reported. The preliminary calculation of the elastic constants of a structural element incorporating a nanotube and an interphase layer and the subsequent calculation of independent elastic constants of a composite with such transversely isotropic structural elements oriented in one direction are both performed by using the Mori–Tanaka theory of an equivalent medium. The calculations are carried out for a wide range of ratios between the elastic moduli of the interphase layer and matrix. The elastic constants of a composite with randomly oriented nanotubes are obtained by using the method of orientational averaging.  相似文献

A variant of stepwise determination of the elastic characteristics of quasi-isotropic polymer-silicate nanocomposites with randomly oriented platelike filler particles is considered. First, the elastic constants of transversely isotropic structural elements with coplanarly placed filler particles are obtained, and then they are averaged over all spatial directions by using the orientational averaging method. The characteristic features of the hierarchical structure of exfoliated and intercalated nanocomposites are also considered. The concentration dependences of elastic constants of a nanocomposite based on a styrene-acrylate copolymer and native montmorillonite clay are modeled, and the results obtained are compared with experimental data. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 42, No. 2, pp. 235–246, March–April, 2006.  相似文献

In the present work, a model of nonlinear deformation of stochastic composites under microdamaging is developed for the case of a composite with orthotropic inclusions, when microdefects are accumulated in the matrix. The composite is treated as an isotropic matrix strengthened by triaxial arbitrarily oriented ellipsoidal inclusions with orthotropic symmetry of the elastic properties. It is assumed that the process of loading leads to accumulation of damage in the matrix. Fractured microvolumes are modeled by a system of randomly distributed quasispherical pores. The porosity balance equation and relations for determining the effective elastic modules in the case of orthotropic components are taken as basic relations. The fracture criterion is specified as the limiting value of the intensity of average shear stresses acting in the intact part of the material. On the basis of the analytic and numerical approach, we propose an algorithm for the determination of nonlinear deformation properties of the investigated material. The nonlinearity of composite deformations is caused by the finiteness of deformations. By using the numerical solution, the nonlinear stress–strain diagrams are predicted and discussed for an orthotropic composite material for various cases of orientation of inclusions in the matrix.  相似文献

A quasi-periodic model is developed for random structures of composites, when the locations of inclusions are given in terms of random deviations from nodes of an ideal periodic lattice. Solution of the stochastic boundary problem of the theory of elasticity is examined for a quasi-periodic component by the method of periodic components, which is reduced to determination of the field of deviations from the known solution for a corresponding periodic composite. The solution is presented for the tensor of effective elastic properties of a quasi-periodic composite in singular approximation of the method of periodic components in terms of familiar solutions for tensors of the effective elastic properties of composites with periodic and chaotic structures and the parameters of the quasi-periodic structure: the coefficient of periodicity and the tensor of the anisotropy of inclusion disorder. An incremental homogenization scheme for the prediction of elastic properties of composites is reviewed. Similar to the differential scheme, the inclusions are included step-by-step. This approach accounts for high volume fractions of inclusion of different shape and elastic properties. A numerical example for a composite consisting of a polymeric matrix, glass fibers and voids is shown. The fiber distribution is chosen equivalently to a distribution in an injection molded short-fiber reinforced composite. The volume fraction of the voids is varied. The generalized self-consistent method is extended to the problems of statistical mechanics of composites with random elastic properties of inclusions. This approach makes it possible to reduce the problem of predicting the effective elastic properties of composites with random structures to a sequence of simpler homogenized boundary-value problems for solitary inclusions with inhomogeneous elastic transition layers in a homogeneous effective elastic medium and with the corresponding boundary conditions. The elastic properties of a solitary inclusion for the gth homogenized problem are found from the solutions of the gth and (g+1)th homogenized problems. The elastic properties and sizes of the transition layers account for the random distribution, random sizes, and random elastic properties of inclusions in the composite. A test problem of predicting the effective elastic properties of a transversely isotropic layer composite with random elastic properties of some layers is solved by using the method proposed. The solution obtained coincides with the known exact solution [1].Perm State Technical University, Perm, Russia. A new approach to the generalized self-consistent method [1,2] has been developed for problems of the statistical mechanics of composites with composite or hollow inclusions. The approach can reduce the problem of predicting the effective elastic properties of composites to a simpler averaged problem of a single, composite, or hollow inclusion with inhomogeneous elastic surrounding in a homogeneous effective elastic medium. The problem of predicting the effective elastic properties of composites with unidirectional hollow fibers or hollow spherical inclusions are studied by using the new approach.Submitted to the 10th International Conference on Mechanics of Composite Materials, April 20–23, 1998, Riga, Latvia.Perm' State Technical University, Russia. A generalized self-consistent method [1, 2] is developed and applied to the boundary-value problems of composites with random elastic properties of inclusions. The approach suggested makes it possible to allow for a random mutual arrangement, statistical dispersion of elastic properties and sizes of the inclusions, and their mutual correlation in terms of special homogenized indicator functions. For comparison, the analytical solutions and those obtained from a corresponding sequence of H+1 (H=0,1,…) linked homogenized problems of the self-consistent method for the strain distribution in the inclusions and for the tensor of effective elastic properties of the composite are given. A numerical calculation of the effective transversely isotropic elastic characteristics for a unidirectional polydisperse fibrous composite is also presented. The feasibility of using a generalized self-consistent method for predicting the effective elastic properties of composites with random hybrid structures has been examined. Using this method, the problem is reduced to solution of simpler special averaged problems for composites with single inclusions and corresponding transition layers in the medium examined. The dimensions of the transition layers are defined by correlation radii of the composite random structure of the composite, while the heterogeneous elastic properties of the transition layers take account of the probabilities for variation of the size and configuration of the inclusions using averaged special indicator functions. Results are given for a numerical calculation of the averaged indicator functions and analysis of the effect of the micropores in the matrix-fiber interface region on the effective elastic properties of unidirectional fiberglass—epoxy using the generalized self-consistent method and compared with experimental data and reported solutions.Perm State Technical University. A method for calculating the elastic properties of fiber-reinforced composites is discussed. The method is based on the structural macroscopic theory for reinforced media [1, 2], which can be used for analysis of stiff and soft composites. As a measure of the elastic properties of composites, the parameters of macroscopic deformations of the base system of Cartesian coordinates are used, with the axes oriented in a certain direction relative to the general reinforcement and loading field. The corresponding macrostresses in the loaded composites are found by a solution of the microboundary problem for a composite macroelement with sides parallel to reinforcement planes of the system. The microboundary-value problem is multiply connected and is formulated based on the information about the homogeneous field of macroscopic displacements specified by the parameters of macroscopic deformation. The problem is solved using the local system of coordinates whose axes are directed along some of the reinforcement trajectories.State Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine, Dniepropetrovsk, Ukraine. The resistance of a ceramic matrix composite to the cleavage cracking across a field of strongly bonded, uniformly distributed metal particles is studied. The crack trapping and bridging effects of the metal particles are analyzed by means of calculating the strain energy and the traction work. An explicit expression for the critical energy release rate as a function of particle volume fraction has been obtained. The fracture resistance is independent of elastic properties of the matrix and the sample geometry and is predominantly determined by the size/spacing ratio of the particles. It is shown that the theoretical curves agree with experimental data quite well. The methodology developed in this article can be used in studying the fracture resistances of composites with high filler contents and irregular filler geometries.__________Russian translation published in Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 41, No. 3, pp. 303–318, May–June, 2005.  相似文献

A generalized self-consistent method is extended to particulate viscoelastic composites with elastomeric matrices and high volume fractions of elastic inclusions. It is shown that the effective bulk modulus of a composite coincides with the bulk modulus of particles. A quadratic operator equation is derived for an analog of the effective shear relaxation kernel. This equation is explicitly solved using the Laplace transform method. The influence of material and geometrical parameters of a composite on its effective viscoelastic moduli is analyzed numerically.  相似文献

The effect of a filler on the strength properties of polymers in tension is investigated. The thermostructural stresses that develop in the composite during cure are taken into account. Relations are given for the strength of the filled polymer as a function of the percentage filler content. In the process of analyzing the thermostructural stresses an analytic expression is obtained for the linear expansion coefficient of the composite with allowance for the structural distribution of the components. Calculated values of the strength and thermostructural stresses are presented for composites with different filler contents. The theoretical determination of the strength of filled polymers is compared with the results of experimental investigations of composites based on epoxy resin filled with quartz dust.Leningrad Mechanical Institute. Based on a plane model of composites, the effect of a transition layer on the elastic modulus Ec of the composites is analyzed in the case where, under the action of a load, the transition layer is formed both on the side of matrix and filler. In evaluating Ec, it is assumed that the elastic modulus in the layer grows linearly from the elastic modulus of matrix to that of filler, but pores in the filler are impermeable to matrix macromolecules. Analytic relation ships are found which allow one to determine the volume fractions of the transition layer on the side of matrix and filler if the experimental elastic modulus of the composite is known. These relationships are used to find the magnitude of the layer in epoxy composites with various fillers and to evaluate its effect on the compressive elastic modulus of the composites. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 42, No. 5, pp. 693–700, September–October, 2006.  相似文献

Two new approaches are used for calculating the stress–strain state of a rope and its stiffnesses. The first approach relies on the theory of fibrous composites and Saint-Venant's solution for a cylinder with helical anisotropy. The second approach is based on the solution by the finite element method of the three-dimensional problem of elasticity theory for a solid inhomogeneous cylinder formed by a finite number of elastic fibres arranged in helical lines and connected by a weak filler (in the sense that its Young's modulus is several orders of magnitude less than the Young's modulus of the fibre). The behaviour of the stiffness when the modulus of elasticity of the filler tends to zero is analysed, and the results of the limiting transition are discussed. The numerical results obtained are compared with calculations by other well-known applied theories.  相似文献

A numerical approach for determination of the effective properties of particulate composite materials has been developed. A representative volume element (RVE) of the composite material is analyzed with help of the finite-element method. Uniform boundary displacements or tractions are applied on the boundaries of the RVE for introducing the known average strain in the RVE. Local stress and strain distributions in the RVE are calculated using the finite-element method. Different effective elastic constants can be calculated by averaging the local fields corresponding to different sets of boundary conditions. The present approach allows us to determine the effective properties of particle-reinforced composites with acceptable accuracy. The calculated effective properties of the composite are between the upper and lower Hashin—Shtrikman bounds. The results based on the present approach lead to higher stiffness of composites in comparison with analytical approaches.Institute fur Werkstoffwissenschaften, Fachberech Werkseoffwissenschaften, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, D-06099 Halle, Germany.
