The design and synthesis of novel linear–dendritic diblock amphiphiles with linear poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as the hydrophilic block and dendritic poly(benzyl ether) as the hydrophobic block are described. The synthetic process consisted of two steps: a poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA)–poly(benzyl ether) dendrimer series were synthesized with atom transfer radical polymerization, and through the hydrolysis of linear PMA block into PAA, amphiphilic block copolymers, the PAA–poly(benzyl ether) dendrimer series, were obtained. The copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and size exclusion chromatography and exhibited well‐defined architectures and low polydispersities. When the generation number of the dendritic block (Gi) less or equal to 3 and the degree of polymerization of the linear chain (n) was greater than 10, the amphiphiles were water‐soluble. The solution intrinsic viscosity increased with both the length of linear chain and the generation number of the dendritic block. The results obtained demonstrate that dendritic blocks play an unusual role in aqueous solutions of amphiphiles. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 4282–4288, 2000 相似文献

Linear‐dendritic block copolymer hosts were synthesized by end‐functionalizing poly(methylmethacrylate) with dendrons that acted as hydrogen‐bonding acceptors for nonlinear optical chromophores. Second harmonic generation experiments indicate that the d33 coefficients and maximum chromophore loading are increased in linear‐dendritic block copolymer hosts over comparable homopolymer hosts. Transmission electron microscopy shows 5–10 nm chromophore domains, confirming the effective spatial dispersion of the chromophores. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes a divergent strategy to prepare dendrimer‐like macromolecules from vinyl monomers through a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and click reaction. Firstly, star‐shaped polystyrene (PS) with three arms was prepared through ATRP of styrene starting from a three‐arm initiator. Next, the terminal bromides of the star‐shaped PS were substituted with azido groups. Afterwards, the azido‐terminated star‐shaped PS was reacted with propargyl 2,2‐bis((2′‐bromo‐2′‐methylpropanoyloxy)methyl)propionate (PBMP) via click reaction. Star‐shaped PS with six terminal bromide groups was afforded and served as the initiator for the polymerization of styrene to afford the second‐generation dendrimer‐like PS. Iterative process of the aforementioned sequence of reactions could allow the preparation of the third‐generation dendrimer‐like PS. When the second‐generation dendrimer‐like PS with 12 bromide groups used as an initiator for the polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate, the third‐generation dendrimer‐like block copolymer with a PS core and a poly (tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) corona was afforded. Subsequently PtBA segments were selectively hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid, resulting an amphiphilic branched copolymer with inner dendritic PS and outer linear poly(acrylic acid) (PAA). Following the same polymerization procedures, the dendrimer‐like PS and PS‐block‐PtBA copolymers of second generation originating from six‐arm initiator were also synthesized. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The first synthesis of asymmetric dendritic‐linear‐dendritic ABC block copolymers, that contain a linear B block and dissimilar A and C dendritic fragments is reported. Third generation poly(benzyl ether) monodendrons having benzyl alcohol moiety at their “focal” point were activated by quantitative titration with organometallic anions and the resulting alkoxides were used as initiators in the “living” ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide. The reaction proceeded in controlled fashion at 40–50 °C affording linear‐dendritic AB block copolymers with predictable molecular weights (Mw = 6000–13,000) and narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 1.02–1.04). The propagation process was monitored by size‐exclusion chromatography with multiple detection. The resulting “living” copolymers were terminated by reaction either with HCl/tetrahydrofuran or with a reactive monodendron that differed from the initiating dendron not only in size, but also in chemical composition. The asymmetric triblock copolymers follow a peculiar structure‐induced self‐assembly pattern in block‐selective solvents as evidenced by size‐exclusion chromatography in combination with multi‐angle light scattering. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agent, dendritic polyester with 16 dithiobenzoate terminal groups, was prepared and used in the RAFT polymerization of styrene (St) to produce star polystyrene (PSt) with a dendrimer core. It was found that this polymerization was of living characters, the molecular weight of the dendrimer‐star polymers could be controlled and the polydispersities were narrow. The dendrimer‐star block copolymers of St and methyl acrylate (MA) were also prepared by the successive RAFT polymerization using the dendrimer‐star PSt as macro chain transfer agent. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation and chemical modification of dendritic–linear block copolymers with surface functionalized dendritic components are presented. Isophthalate ester-functionalized dendrons featuring benzylic halide groups at their focal points have been used for the metal catalyzed “living” radical polymerization of styrene. The molecular weight of the dendritic–linear block copolymers determined by MALDI-TOF and Size Exclusion Chromatography was found to be accurately controlled up to molecular weights of ca. 30,000 a.m.u., with polydispersities less than 1.2. Subsequent functional group modifications of the peripheral ethyl ester groups of the dendritic block have been successfully carried out leading to carboxylic acids, butyl amides, benzyl alcohols, benzyl halides, and also accelerated generation growth via transesterification with a first generation dendritic alcohol. Several of these new dendritic–linear block copolymers exhibit interesting aggregation characteristics as evidenced by 1H-NMR spectroscopic studies. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Formation of a stereocomplex from polylactide copolymers can be tuned by changing the size and the chain topology of the second block in the copolymer. In particular, the use of a dendritic instead of linear architecture is expected to destabilize the cocrystallisation of polylactide blocks. With this idea in mind, dendritic‐linear block copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of lactides using benzyl alcohol dendrons of generation 1–3 as macroinitiators and stannous octoate as catalyst. Polymers with controlled and narrow molar mass distribution were obtained. The MALDI‐TOF mass spectra of these dendritic‐linear block copolymers show well‐resolved signals. Remarkably, 10% or less of odd‐membered polymers are present, indicating that ester‐exchange reactions which occur classically parallel to the polymerization process, were in these conditions, very limited. Thermal analysis of polyenantiomers of generation 1–3 and the corresponding blends were examined. The blend of a pair of enantiomeric dendritic‐linear block copolymers exhibit a higher melting temperature than each copolymer, characteristic for the formation of a stereocomplex. Melting temperatures are strongly dependent on the dendron generation. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 6782–6789, 2006 相似文献

Dendritic rod structures can be formed via the branching of dendritic elements from a primary polymer backbone; such systems present an opportunity to create nanoscale material structures with highly functional exterior regions. In this work, we report for the first time the synthesis of a hybrid diblock copolymer possessing a linear–dendritic rod architecture. These block copolymers consist of a linear poly(ethylene oxide)–poly(ethylene imine) diblock copolymer around which poly(amido amine) branches have been divergently synthesized from the poly(ethylene imine) block. The dendritic branches are terminated with amine or ester groups for the full generations and half‐generations, respectively; however, the methyl ester terminal groups can also be readily converted into alkyl groups of various lengths, and this allows us to tune the hydrophilic/hydrophobic nature of the dendritic block and, therefore, the amphiphilic properties of the diblock copolymer and its tendencies toward microphase separation. The block copolymers exhibit semicrystallinity due to the presence of the poly(ethylene oxide) block; however, as the polymer fraction consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) decreases, the overall crystallinity also decreases, and it approaches zero at generation 2.0 and higher. The unfunctionalized block copolymers show weak phase segregation in transmission electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry at all generations. The addition of n‐alkyl chains increases phase segregation, particularly at high alkyl lengths. The generation 3.5 polymer with n‐dodecyl alkyl substitution has a rodlike or wormlike morphology consisting of domains of 4.1 nm, equivalent to the estimated cross section of the individual polymer chains. In this case, the nanometer scale of the polymer chains can be directly observed with transmission electron microscopy. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dendritic copolymers comprising a hydrophobic core and hydrophilic shell with nearly equal numbers of hydroxyl groups in the shell and different densities in the core were prepared by a multi‐step process based on anionic ring‐opening polymerization. The diversity in the core density was obtained by using copolymer stars with poly(tert‐butyl‐glycidylether)‐block‐polyglycidol arms with nearly equal length of hydrophobic blocks and numbers of hydroxyl groups of polyglycidol but different numbers of arms as macroinitiators. The ability of the dendritic copolymers to serve as a nanocontainer for a ruthenium complex Ru(NH3)3Cl3 with anticancer properties was studied. The possibility of improving the water solubility of this poorly soluble drug by loading it onto dendritic copolymers was investigated. The hydroxyl groups of the dendritic copolymers were used for complexation of the ruthenium compound to the shell. The loading efficiency was analyzed by UV–vis spectroscopy. The dendritic nanoparticles in their hydrated state were visualized using cryo‐TEM. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 3488–3497 相似文献

A “coupling to” approach was developed for the synthesis of hybrid dendritic–linear block copolymers. Fréchet‐type polyether dendrons were prepared by the convergent growth approach and coupled with well‐defined functionalized polystyrene backbones prepared by living free radical procedures. The subtle interplay between the degree of functionalization present in the backbone and the size of the dendritic fragment led to incomplete reactions as steric crowding along the backbone increased. This resulted in globular hybrid macromolecules instead of the extended rods typically formed from the polymerization of dendritic macromonomers. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Hybrid dendritic‐linear block copolymers were made in one‐pot by convergent living anionic polymerization. Dendritic polystyrene macroinitiators were synthesized by slowly adding a mixture of either vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC) or 4‐(chlorodimethylsilyl)styrene (CDMSS) and styrene (1 : 10 molar ratio of coupling agent to styrene) to a solution of living polystyryllithium. The addition was ceased prior to the addition of a stoichiometric amount of coupling agent to retain a living chain end. To the living dendritically branched polystyrene was then added either styrene or isoprene to polymerize a linear block from the dendritic polystyrene. The resulting copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography coupled with multiangle laser light scattering (GPC‐MALLS), which clearly demonstrated the formation of diblock copolymers. The diblock copolymers were further characterized by 1H NMR, which showed the presence of the two blocks in the case of dendritic polystyrene‐block‐linear polyisoprene. The measurement of intrinsic viscosity showed that the dilute solution properties of the block copolymers are greatly influenced by the dendritic portion. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Amphiphilic dendritic–linear–dendritic triblock copolymers based on hydrophilic linear poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and hydrophobic dendritic carbosilane were synthesized with a divergent approach at the allyl end groups of diallyl‐terminated PEO. Their micellar characteristics in an aqueous phase were investigated with dynamic light scattering, fluorescence techniques, and transmission electron microscopy. The block copolymer with the dendritic moiety of a third generation could not be dispersed in water. The block copolymers with the first (PEO–D ‐Si‐1G) and second (PEO–D ‐Si‐2G) generations of dendritic carbosilane blocks formed micelles in an aqueous phase. The critical micelle concentrations of PEO–D ‐Si‐1G and PEO–D ‐Si‐2G, determined by a fluorescence technique, were 27 and 16 mg/L, respectively. The mean diameters of the micelles of PEO–D ‐Si‐1G and PEO–D ‐Si‐2G, measured by dynamic light scattering, were 170 and 190 nm, respectively, which suggests that the micelles had a multicore‐type structure. The partition equilibrium constants of pyrene in the micellar solution increased with the increasing size of the dendritic block (e.g., 7.68 × 104 for PEO–D ‐Si‐1G and 9.57 × 104 for PEO–D ‐Si‐2G). The steady‐state fluorescence anisotropy values (r) of 1,6‐diphenyl‐1,3,5‐hexatriene were 0.06 for PEO–D ‐Si‐1G and 0.09 for PEO–D ‐Si‐2G. The r values were lower than those of the linear polymeric amphiphiles, suggesting that the microviscosity of the dendritic micellar core was lower than that of the linear polymeric analogues. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The synthesis and characterization of novel first‐ and second‐generation true dendritic reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agents carrying 6 or 12 pendant 3‐benzylsulfanylthiocarbonylsulfanylpropionic acid RAFT end groups with Z‐group architecture based on 1,1,1‐hydroxyphenyl ethane and trimethylolpropane cores are described in detail. The multifunctional dendritic RAFT agents have been used to prepare star polymers of poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA) and polystyrene (PS) of narrow polydispersities (1.4 < polydispersity index < 1.1 for PBA and 1.5 < polydispersity index < 1.3 for PS) via bulk free‐radical polymerization at 60 °C. The novel dendrimer‐based multifunctional RAFT agents effect an efficient living polymerization process, as evidenced by the linear evolution of the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) with the monomer–polymer conversion, yielding star polymers with molecular weights of up to Mn = 160,000 g mol?1 for PBA (based on a linear PBA calibration) and up to Mn = 70,000 g mol?1 for PS (based on a linear PS calibration). A structural change in the chemical nature of the dendritic core (i.e., 1,1,1‐hydroxyphenyl ethane vs trimethylolpropane) has no influence on the observed molecular weight distributions. The star‐shaped structure of the generated polymers has been confirmed through the cleavage of the pendant arms off the core of the star‐shaped polymeric materials. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports on developing an efficient synthesis approach to aliphatic polyester dendrimer, poly(thioglycerol‐2‐propionate) (PTP), by combination of thio‐bromo “Click” chemistry with atom transfer nitroxide radical coupling (ATNRC). Through the one‐pot two‐step method, linear polystyrene with hydroxyl end groups (l‐PS‐2OH) was obtained by first atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene and following termination using 4‐(2,3‐dihydroxypropoxy)‐TEMPO (DHP‐TEMPO) to capture the PS macroradicals via ATNRC method. Using l‐PS‐2OH as support, the dendritic repeating units divergently were grown from the hydroxyl end groups via esterification and thio‐bromo “Click” reaction two‐step process. In every generation, the resulting intermediates l‐PS‐d‐PTP (G1‐G4) can be easily isolated from the excessive unreacted monomers by simple precipitation in ethanol without help of time, labor and solvent consuming column chromatographic purification. At last, cleavage of the alkoxyamine group between the PS support and dendrimer at elevated temperature (125 °C) provided the targeted polyester dendrimer PTP up to the fourth generation. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel and well‐defined dendrimer‐star, block‐comb polymers were successfully achieved by the combination of living ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization on the basis of a dendrimer polyester. Star‐shaped dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)s were synthesized by the bulk polymerization of ?‐caprolactone with a dendrimer initiator and tin 2‐ethylhexanoate as a catalyst. The molecular weights of the dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)s increased linearly with an increase in the monomer. The dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)s were converted into macroinitiators via esterification with 2‐bromopropionyl bromide. The star‐block copolymer dendrimer poly(?‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) was obtained by the atom transfer radical polymerization of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate. The molecular weights of these copolymers were adjusted by the variation of the monomer conversion. Then, dendrimer‐star, block‐comb copolymers were prepared with poly(L ‐lactide) blocks grafted from poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) blocks by the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide. The unique and well‐defined structure of these copolymers presented thermal properties that were different from those of linear poly(?‐caprolactone). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dendron‐like poly(ε‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐L ‐lysine)/linear poly(ethylene oxide) block copolymers (i.e., Dm‐PZLys‐b‐PEO, m = 0 and 3; Dm are the propargyl focal point poly(amido amine) dendrons having 2m primary amine groups) were for the first time synthesized by combining ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐L ‐lysine N‐carboxyanhydride (Z‐Lys‐NCA) and click chemistry, where Dm‐PZLys homopolypeptides were click conjugated with azide‐terminated PEO. Their molecular structures and physical properties were characterized in detail by FTIR, 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy, and wide angle X‐ray diffraction. Both homopolypeptides and copolymers presented a liquid crystalline phase transition for PZLys block, and the transition was irreversible. Moreover, the degree of crystallinity of PEO block within linear copolymers decreased from 96.2% to 20.4% with increasing PZLys composition, whereas that within dendritic copolymers decreased to zero. The secondary conformation of PZLys progressively changed from β‐sheet to α‐helix with increasing the chain length. These copolymers self‐assembled into spherical nanoparticles in aqueous solution, and the anticancer drug doxorubicin‐loaded nanoparticles gave a similar morphology compared with their blank counterparts. The drug‐loaded nanoparticles showed a triphasic drug‐release profile at aqueous pH 7.4 or 5.5 and 37 °C and sustained a longer drug‐release period for about 2 months. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of multiarm star block (and mixed‐block) copolymers are efficiently prepared by using Cu(I) catalyzed azide‐alkyne click reaction and the arm‐first approach. α‐Silyl protected alkyne polystyrene (α‐silyl‐alkyne‐PS) was prepared by ATRP of styrene (St) and used as macroinitiator in a crosslinking reaction with divinyl benzene to successfully give multiarm star homopolymer with alkyne periphery. Linear azide end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐N3) and poly (tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA‐N3) were simply clicked with the multiarm star polymer described earlier to form star block or mixed‐block copolymers in N,N‐dimethyl formamide at room temperature for 24 h. Obtained multiarm star block and mixed‐block copolymers were identified by using 1H NMR, GPC, triple detection‐GPC, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering measurements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four generations of new amphiphilic thermoresponsive linear‐dendritic block copolymers (LDBCs) with a linear poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) block and a dendritic poly(benzyl ether) block are synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of N‐vinylcaprolactam (NVCL) using dendritic poly(benzyl ether) chlorides as initiators. The copolymers have been characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, and GPC showing controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution (PDI ≤ 1.25). Their self‐organization in aqueous media and thermoresponsive property are highly dependent on the generation of dendritic poly(benzyl ether) block. It is observed for the LDBCs that the self‐assembled morphology changes from irregularly spherical micelles, vesicles, rod‐like large compound vesicles (LCVs), to the coexistence of spherical micelles and rod‐like LCVs, as the generation of the dendritic poly(benzyl ether) increases. The results of a cytotoxicity study using an MTT assay method with L929 cells show that the LDBCs are biocompatible. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The first‐ and second‐generation well‐defined thermoresponsive amphiphilic linear–dendritic diblock copolymers based on hydrophilic linear poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) and hydrophobic dendritic aromatic polyamide have been synthesized via reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of N‐vinylcaprolactam by employing dendritic chain‐transfer agents possessing a single dithiocarbamate moiety at the focal point. These linear–dendritic copolymers exhibit reversible temperature‐dependent phase transition behaviors in aqueous solution as characterized by turbidity measurements using UV–vis spectroscopy. Their lower critical solution temperatures depend on the generation of the dendritic aromatic polyamides and the concentrations of the copolymer solutions. These amphiphilic copolymers are able to form nanospherical micelles in the aqueous solution as revealed by fluorescent spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The core–shell structure of micelles has been proved by 1H NMR analyses of the micelles in D2O. This article presents the synthesis and initial characterization of polymers having a high molecular weight dendritic (arborescent) polyisobutylene (arbPIB) core and short end sequences composed of copolymers of isobutylene with isoprene, p‐methyl styrene, or cyclopentadiene. The first stage of the polymerizations was controlled/living (i.e., no chain transfer or irreversible termination were detected) and the process was reproducible. The hydrodynamic radii of arbPIBs were measured by viscometry and quasi‐elastic light scattering, and good agreement between the two methods is demonstrated for the first time in this paper. Sequential addition of the second monomer(s) led to the formation of short copolymer end sequences. We have discovered that regardless of the Tg of the copolymer end blocks, the new block copolymers exhibited TPE properties, which were improved by carbon black and silica fillers to a great extent. These novel PIB‐based TPEs are promising new biomaterials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 1148–1158, 2009 相似文献
