We make the supergravity solutions describing the branes (D3 branes and D4 branes) localized within the D6 branes in the near core region of D6 brane. From the D=11 solutions (M3 branes and M4 branes with the ZN identifications in the transverse space) we obtain the D=10 supergravity solutions of D3 branes localized within D6 branes and D4 branes localized within D6 branes by reducing the dimension down to D=10 along a circular direction of S3 part of the transverse space. M3 brane solution leads to D=10 background representing D3 branes localized on D6 branes in the region close to the D6 branes core. M4 branes lead to the D4 branes localized on D6 branes in the region close to the D6 brane core.  相似文献

We construct a class of analytic solutions with two free parameters to the five-dimensional Einstein field equations, which represents the collision of two timelike 3-branes. We study the local and global properties of the spacetime, and find that spacelike singularities generically develop after the collision, due to the mutual focus of the two branes. Non-singular spacetime can be constructed only in the case where both of the two branes violate the energy conditions.  相似文献

We study the behaviour of five-dimensional fermions localized on branes, which we describe by domain walls, when two parallel branes collide in a five-dimensional Minkowski background spacetime. We find that most fermions are localized on both branes as a whole even after collision. However, how much fermions are localized on which brane depends sensitively on the incident velocity and the coupling constants unless the fermions exist on both branes.  相似文献

We investigate the instanton effects due to D3 branes wrapping a four-cycle in a Calabi–Yau orientifold with D7 branes. We study the condition for the nonzero superpotentials from the D3 instantons. To this aim we work out the zero mode structures of D3 branes wrapping a four-cycle both in the presence of the fluxes and in the absence of the fluxes. In the presence of the fluxes, the condition for the nonzero superpotential could be different from that without the fluxes. We explicitly work out a simple example of the orientifold of KT 2/Z 2 with a suitable flux to show such behavior. The effects of the D3–D7 sectors are interesting and give further constraints for the nonzero superpotential. In a special configuration where D3 branes and D7 branes wrap the same four-cycle, multi-instanton calculus of D3 branes could be reduced to that of a suitable field theory. The structure of D5 instantons in Type I theory is briefly discussed.  相似文献

We explore the possibility that the dynamics of the universe can be reproduced choosing appropriately the initial global topology of the Universe. In this work we start with two concentric spherical three-dimensional branes S 3, with radius a 1 < a 2 immersed in a five-dimensional space-time. The novel feature of this model is that in the interior brane there exist only spin-zero fundamental fields (scalar fields), while in the exterior one there exist only spin-one fundamental interactions. As usual, the bulk of the universe is dominated by gravitational interactions. In this model, like in the Ekpyrotic one, the Big Bang is consequence of the collision of the branes and causes the existence of the particles predicted by the standard model in the exterior brane (our universe). The scalar fields on the interior brane interact with the spin-one fields on the exterior one only through gravitation, they induce the effect of Scalar Field Dark Matter with an ultra-light mass on the exterior one. We discuss two different regimes where the energy density and the brane tension are compared, with the aim to obtain the observed dynamics of the universe after the collision of the branes.  相似文献

We consider the collision of self-gravitating n-branes in a (n+2)-dimensional spacetime. We show that there is a geometrical constraint which can be expressed as a simple sum rule for angles characterizing Lorentz boosts between branes and the intervening spacetime regions. This constraint can then be reinterpreted as either energy or momentum conservation at the collision.  相似文献

In the same sense that 5D anti-de Sitter space (AdS(5)) warped geometries arise naturally from type IIB string theory with stacks of D3 branes, AdS(7) warped geometries arise naturally from M theory with stacks of M5 branes. We compactify two spatial dimensions of AdS(7) to get AdS(5) x Sigma(2), where the metric for Sigma(2) inherits the same warp factor as appears in the AdS(5). We analyze the 5D spectrum in detail for the case of a bulk scalar or a graviton in AdS(5) x T(2), in a setup which mimics the first Randall-Sundrum model. The results display novel features which might be observed in experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. For example, we obtain TeV scale string winding states without lowering the string scale. This is due to the double warping which is a generic feature of winding states along compactified AdS directions. Experimental verification of these signatures of AdS(7) could be interpreted as direct evidence for M theory.  相似文献

We propose a string realization of the AdS4 brane in AdS5 that is known to localize gravity. Our theory is M D5 branes in the near horizon geometry of N D3 branes, where M and N are appropriately tuned.  相似文献

We systematically derive the perturbatively exact holomorphic gauge kinetic function, the open string Kähler metrics and closed string Kähler potential on intersecting D6‐branes by matching open string one‐loop computations of gauge thresholds with field theoretical gauge couplings in 𝒩 = 1 supergravity. We consider all cases of bulk, fractional and rigid D6‐branes on T6/Ω ℛ and the orbifolds T6/(ℤN × Ω ℛ) and T6/(ℤ2 × ℤ2M × Ω ℛ) without and with discrete torsion, which differ in the number of bulk complex structures and in the bulk Kähler potential. Our analysis includes all supersymmetric configurations of vanishing and non‐vanishing angles among D6‐branes and O6‐planes, and all possible Wilson line and displacement moduli are taken into account. The shape of the Kähler moduli turns out to be orbifold independent but angle dependent, whereas the holomorphic gauge kinetic functions obtain three different kinds of one‐loop corrections: a Kähler moduli dependent one for some vanishing angle independently of the orbifold background, another one depending on complex structure moduli only for fractional and rigid D6‐branes, and finally a constant term from intersections with O6‐planes. These results are of essential importance for the construction of the related effective field theory of phenomenologically appealing D‐brane models. As first examples, we compute the complete perturbative gauge kinetic functions and Kähler metrics for some T6/ℤ2 × ℤ2 examples with rigid D‐branes of [1]. As a second class of examples, the Kähler metrics and gauge kinetic functions for the fractional QCD and leptonic D6‐brane stacks of the Standard Model on T6/ℤ6T6/ℤ6 from [2] are given.  相似文献

We construct a statistical model of crystal melting to count BPS bound states of D0 and D2 branes on a single D6 brane wrapping an arbitrary toric Calabi-Yau threefold. The three-dimensional crystalline structure is determined by the quiver diagram and the brane tiling which characterize the low energy effective theory of D branes. The crystal is composed of atoms of different colors, each of which corresponds to a node of the quiver diagram, and the chemical bond is dictated by the arrows of the quiver diagram. BPS states are constructed by removing atoms from the crystal. This generalizes the earlier results on the BPS state counting to an arbitrary non-compact toric Calabi-Yau manifold. We point out that a proper understanding of the relation between the topological string theory and the crystal melting involves the wall crossing in the Donaldson-Thomas theory.  相似文献

In this review article we study type IIB superstring compactifications in the presence of space‐time filling D‐branes while preserving 𝒩=1 supersymmetry in the effective four‐dimensional theory. This amount of unbroken supersymmetry and the requirement to fulfill the consistency conditions imposed by the space‐time filling D‐branes lead to Calabi‐Yau orientifold compactifications. For a generic Calabi‐Yau orientifold theory with space‐time filling D3‐ or D7‐branes we derive the low‐energy spectrum. In a second step we compute the effective 𝒩=1 supergravity action which describes in the low‐energy regime the massless open and closed string modes of the underlying type IIB Calabi‐Yau orientifold string theory. These 𝒩=1 supergravity theories are analyzed and in particular spontaneous supersymmetry breaking induced by non‐trivial background fluxes is studied. For D3‐brane scenarios we compute soft‐supersymmetry breaking terms resulting from bulk background fluxes whereas for D7‐brane systems we investigate the structure of D‐ and F‐terms originating from worldvolume D7‐brane background fluxes. Finally we relate the geometric structure of D7‐brane Calabi‐Yau orientifold compactifications to 𝒩=1 special geometry.  相似文献

We analyse the problem of boundary conditions for the Poisson–Sigma model and extend previous results showing that non-coisotropic branes are allowed. We discuss the canonical reduction of a Poisson structure to a submanifold, leading to a Poisson algebra that generalizes Diracs construction. The phase space of the model on the strip is related to the (generalized) Dirac bracket on the branes through a dual pair structure.Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000). 81T45, 53D17, 81T30, 53D55.  相似文献

We study N = 1 dualities in four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories as the world volume theory of D4 branes with one compact direction in type IIA string theory. We generalize the previous work for SO(Nc1) × Sp(Nc2) with the superpotential W = TrX4 to the case of W = TrX4(k+1) in terms of brane configuration. We conjecture that the new dualities for the product gauge groups of SO(Nc1) × Sp(Nc2) × SO(Nc3), SO(Nc1) × Sp(Nc2) × SO(Nc3) × Sp(Nc4) and higher multiple product gauge groups can be obtained by reversing the ordering of NS5 branes and D6 branes while preserving the linking numbers. We also describe the above dualities in terms of wrapping D6 branes around 3-cycles of Calabi-Yau threefolds in type IIA string theory. The theory with adjoint matter can be regarded as taking multiple copies of NS5 brane in the configuration of brane or geometric approaches.  相似文献

We show that a system of parallel D3 branes near a conifold singularity can be mapped onto an intersecting configuration of orthogonal branes in type IIA string theory. Using this brane configuration, we analyze the Higgs moduli space of the associated field theory. The dimension of the Higgs moduli space is computed from a geometrical analysis of the conifold singularity. Our results provide evidence for an extended s-rule. In addition, a discrepancy between the prediction of the brane configuration and the result obtained from a geometrical analysis is noted. This discrepancy can be traced back to worldsheet instanton effects.  相似文献

In this article we will first discuss the construction of brane world models being built either by intersecting D6-branes in type IIA orientifolds or, in the T-dual mirror picture, by D3- plus D7-branes with f-flux in type IIB orientifolds. We will show how their effective action is obtained by the calculation of scattering amplitudes between open and closed string states on intersecting D6-branes respectively on D3- and D7-branes. Secondly, turning on type IIB 3-form fluxes we will compute the induced soft supersymmetry breaking terms for the matter fields, like gaugino and scalar field masses. Finally, we will discuss the generation of 3-form flux in type IIB supergravity, which can be associated to the dynamical formation of a gaugino condensate in the confining phase of the dual N=1* gauge theory.

We obtain the entropy of a homogeneous anisotropic universe applicable, by assumption, to the fractional branes in the universe in the model of Chowdhury and Mathur. The entropy for the 3 or 4 charge fractional branes thus obtained is not of the expected form or E 2. One way the expected form is realised is if p → ρ for the transverse directions and if the compact directions remain constant in size. These conditions are likely to be enforced by brane decay and annihilation, and by the S, T, U dualities. T duality is also likely to exclude high entropic cases, found in the examples, which arise due to the compact space contracting to zero size. Then the 4 charge fractional branes may indeed provide a detailed realisation of the maximum entropic principle we proposed recently to determine the number (3 + 1) of large spacetime dimensions.  相似文献

We study topological string amplitudes for the FHSV model using various techniques. This model has a type II realization involving a Calabi-Yau threefold with Enriques fibres, which we call the Enriques Calabi-Yau. By applying heterotic/type IIA duality, we compute the topological amplitudes in the fibre to all genera. It turns out that there are two different ways to do the computation that lead to topological couplings with different BPS content. One of them gives the standard D0-D2 counting amplitudes, and from the other one we obtain information about bound states of D0-D4-D2 branes on the Enriques fibre. We also study the model using mirror symmetry and the holomorphic anomaly equations. We verify in this way the heterotic results for the D0-D2 generating functional for low genera and find closed expressions for the topological amplitudes on the total space in terms of modular forms, and up to genus three. This model turns out to be much simpler than the generic B-model and might be exactly solvable.  相似文献

Brane orbits
We complete the classification of half-supersymmetric branes in toroidally compactified IIA/IIB string theory in terms of representations of the T-duality group. As a by-product we derive a last wrapping rule for the space-filling branes. We find examples of T-duality representations of branes in lower dimensions, suggested by supergravity, of which none of the component branes follow from the reduction of any brane in ten-dimensional IIA/IIB string theory. We discuss the constraints on the charges of half-supersymmetric branes, determining the corresponding T-duality and U-duality orbits.  相似文献
