We describe the structure of spaces of continuous step functions over GO-spaces. We establish a relation between the Dedekind completion of a GO-space L and properties of the space of continuous functions from L to 2 with finitely many steps. We use the established relation to prove that a countably compact GO-space L has Lindelöf Cp(L) iff the Dedekind remainder of L is Lindelöf and every compact subspace of L is metrizable. Or equivalently, a countably compact GO-space L has Lindelöf Cp(L) iff every compact subspace of L is metrizable and a Gδ-set in L. Other results are obtained.  相似文献

A topological space X is called linearly Lindelöf if every increasing open cover of X has a countable subcover. It is well known that every Lindelöf space is linearly Lindelöf. The converse implication holds only in particular cases, such as X being countably paracompact or if nw(X)<ω.Arhangel?skii and Buzyakova proved that the cardinality of a first countable linearly Lindelöf space does not exceed 02. Consequently, a first countable linearly Lindelöf space is Lindelöf if ω>02. They asked whether every linearly Lindelöf first countable space is Lindelöf in ZFC. This question is supported by the fact that all known linearly Lindelöf not Lindelöf spaces are of character at least ω. We answer this question in the negative by constructing a counterexample from MA+ω<02.A modification of Alster?s Michael space that is first countable is presented.  相似文献

There has recently been considerable interest in productively Lindelöf spaces, i.e. spaces such that their product with every Lindelöf space is Lindelöf. See e.g. , , , , ,  and , and work in progress by Brendle and Raghavan. Here we make several related remarks about such spaces. Indestructible Lindelöf spaces, i.e. spaces that remain Lindelöf in every countably closed forcing extension, were introduced in [28]. Their connection with topological games and selection principles was explored in [27]. We find further connections here.  相似文献

This article is a natural continuation of [A.V. Arhangel'skii, Remainders in compactifications and generalized metrizability properties, Topology Appl. 150 (2005) 79-90]. As in [A.V. Arhangel'skii, Remainders in compactifications and generalized metrizability properties, Topology Appl. 150 (2005) 79-90], we consider the following general question: when does a Tychonoff space X have a Hausdorff compactification with a remainder belonging to a given class of spaces? A famous classical result in this direction is the well known theorem of M. Henriksen and J. Isbell [M. Henriksen, J.R. Isbell, Some properties of compactifications, Duke Math. J. 25 (1958) 83-106].It is shown that if a non-locally compact topological group G has a compactification bG such that the remainder Y=bG?G has a Gδ-diagonal, then both G and Y are separable and metrizable spaces (Theorem 5). Several corollaries are derived from this result, in particular, this one: If a compact Hausdorff space X is first countable at least at one point, and X can be represented as the union of two complementary dense subspaces Y and Z, each of which is homeomorphic to a topological group (not necessarily the same), then X is separable and metrizable (Theorem 12). It is observed that Theorem 5 does not extend to arbitrary paratopological groups. We also establish that if a topological group G has a remainder with a point-countable base, then either G is locally compact, or G is separable and metrizable.  相似文献

No convenient internal characterization of spaces that are productively Lindelöf is known. Perhaps the best general result known is Alster?s internal characterization, under the Continuum Hypothesis, of productively Lindelöf spaces which have a basis of cardinality at most 11. It turns out that topological spaces having Alster?s property are also productively weakly Lindelöf. The weakly Lindelöf spaces form a much larger class of spaces than the Lindelöf spaces. In many instances spaces having Alster?s property satisfy a seemingly stronger version of Alster?s property and consequently are productively X, where X is a covering property stronger than the Lindelöf property. This paper examines the question: When is it the case that a space that is productively X is also productively Y, where X and Y are covering properties related to the Lindelöf property.  相似文献

We prove several facts about cellularity and κ-cellularity of λ-Lindelöf groups generated by their κ-stable subspaces. For example, if a Lindelöf group G is generated by its κ-stable subspace then κ-cellularity (and hence cellularity) of G does not exceed κ. In particular, ω1-cellularity (and hence cellularity) of a Lindelöf group does not exceed ω1 if this group is generated by its ω1-Lindelöf subspace which is a P-space. For any cardinal μ with ω<μ?c a Lindelöf group G is constructed which is separable (and hence has countable cellularity) while ω-cellularity of G is equal to μ.  相似文献

Remainders in compactifications and generalized metrizability properties   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
When does a Tychonoff space X have a Hausdorff compactification with the remainder belonging to a given class of spaces? A classical theorem of Henriksen and Isbell and certain theorems, involving a new completeness type property introduced below, are applied to obtain new results on remainders of topological spaces and groups. In particular, some strong necessary conditions for a topological group to have a metrizable remainder, or a paracompact p-remainder, are established (the group itself turns out to be a paracompact p-space (Theorem 4.8)). It follows that if a non-locally compact topological group G is metrizable at infinity, then G is a Lindelöf p-space, and the Souslin number of G is countable (Corollary 4.10). This solves Problem 10.28 from [M. Hušek, J. van Mill (Eds.), Recent Progress in General Topology, vol. 2, North-Holland, 2002, pp. 1–57].  相似文献

We show that the subsemigroup of the product of ω1-many circles generated by the L-space constructed by J. Moore is again an L-space. This leads to a new example of a Lindelöf topological group. The question whether all finite powers of this group are Lindelöf remains open.  相似文献

We introduce and study some completeness properties for systems of open coverings of a given topological space. A Hausdorff space admitting a system of cardinality κ satisfying one of these properties is of type Gκ. Hence, we define several new variants of the ?ech number and use elementary submodels to determine further results. We introduce M-hulls and M-networks, for M elementary submodel. As an application, we give estimates for both the tightness and the Lindelöf number of a generic upper hyperspace. Two recent results of Costantini, Holá and Vitolo on the tightness of co-compact hyperspaces follow from ours as corollaries.  相似文献

The Lindelöf property of the space of continuous real-valued continuous functions is studied. A consistent example of an uncountable Ψ-like space is constructed for which the space of continuous real-valued functions with the pointwise convergence topology is Lindelöf.  相似文献

We show in a direct way that a space is D if it is a finite union of subparacompact scattered spaces. This result cannot be extended to countable unions, since it is known that there is a regular space which is a countable union of paracompact scattered spaces and which is not D. Nevertheless, we show that every space which is the union of countably many regular Lindelöf C-scattered spaces has the D-property. Also, we prove that a space is D if it is a locally finite union of regular Lindelöf C-scattered spaces.  相似文献

We consider the following natural questions: when a topological group G has a first countable remainder, when G has a remainder of countable tightness? This leads to some further questions on the properties of remainders of topological groups. Let G be a topological group. The following facts are established. 1. If Gω has a first countable remainder, then either G is metrizable, or G is locally compact. 2. If G has a countable network and a first countable remainder, then either G is separable and metrizable, or G is σ-compact. 3. Under (MA+¬CH) every topological group with a countable network and a first countable remainder is separable and metrizable. Some new open problems are formulated.  相似文献

Let f:X×KR be a separately continuous function and C a countable collection of subsets of K. Following a result of Calbrix and Troallic, there is a residual set of points xX such that f is jointly continuous at each point of {xQ, where Q is the set of yK for which the collection C includes a basis of neighborhoods in K. The particular case when the factor K is second countable was recently extended by Moors and Kenderov to any ?ech-complete Lindelöf space K and Lindelöf α-favorable X, improving a generalization of Namioka's theorem obtained by Talagrand. Moors proved the same result when K is a Lindelöf p-space and X is conditionally σ-α-favorable space. Here we add new results of this sort when the factor X is σC(X)-β-defavorable and when the assumption “base of neighborhoods” in Calbrix-Troallic's result is replaced by a type of countable completeness. The paper also provides further information about the class of Namioka spaces.  相似文献

We introduce a weakening of the generalized continuum hypothesis, which we will refer to as the prevalent singular cardinals hypothesis, and show it implies that every topological space of density and weight ω1 is not hereditarily Lindelöf.The assumption PSH is very weak, and in fact holds in all currently known models of ZFC.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct an example of a T4 feebly Lindelöf space X which is not star Lindelöf under 02=12, which gives a partial answer to Alas, Junqueira and Wilson (2011) [1, Question 4].  相似文献

We obtain from the consistency of the existence of a measurable cardinal the consistency of “small” upper bounds on the cardinality of a large class of Lindelöf spaces whose singletons are Gδ sets.  相似文献

The class of spaces such that their product with every Lindelöf space is Lindelöf is not well-understood. We prove a number of new results concerning such productively Lindelöf spaces with some extra property, mainly assuming the Continuum Hypothesis.  相似文献

A variant of Michael's example is given to the following effect: there is a Lindelöf space M of weight 1, with all Gδ-sets open, such that M×B(1) is nonnormal. This answers a question from [K. Alster, On the class of ω1-metrizable spaces whose product with every paracompact space is paracompact, Topology Appl. 153 (2006) 2508-2517].  相似文献

In this paper, we shall continue the study of bitopological separation axioms begun by Kelly and obtained some results. Furthermore, we introduce two concepts of pairwise Lindelöf bitopological spaces and the properties for them are established. We also show that a pairwise Lindelöf space is not hereditary property.  相似文献

It is known that within metric spaces analyticity and K-analyticity are equivalent concepts. It is known also that non-separable weakly compactly generated (shortly WCG) Banach spaces over R or C provide concrete examples of weakly K-analytic spaces which are not weakly analytic. We study the case which totally differs from the above one. A general theorem is provided which shows that a Banach space E over a locally compact non-archimedean non-trivially valued field is weakly Lindelöf iff E is separable iff E is WCG iff E is weakly web-compact (in the sense of Orihuela). This provides a non-archimedean version of a remarkable Amir-Lindenstrauss theorem.  相似文献
