In this paper, we consider the following question: when does a topological group G have a Hausdorff compactification bG with a remainder belonging to a given class of spaces? We extend the results of A.V. Arhangel'skii by showing that if a remainder of a non-locally compact topological group G has a countable open point-network or a locally Gδ-diagonal, then G and the compactification bG of G are separable and metrizable.  相似文献

In a recent paper O. Pavlov proved the following two interesting resolvability results:
(1)
If a T1-space X satisfies Δ(X)>ps(X) then X is maximally resolvable.
(2)
If a T3-space X satisfies Δ(X)>pe(X) then X is ω-resolvable.
Here ps(X) (pe(X)) denotes the smallest successor cardinal such that X has no discrete (closed discrete) subset of that size and Δ(X) is the smallest cardinality of a non-empty open set in X.In this note we improve (1) by showing that Δ(X)>ps(X) can be relaxed to Δ(X)?ps(X), actually for an arbitrary topological space X. In particular, if X is any space of countable spread with Δ(X)>ω then X is maximally resolvable. The question if an analogous improvement of (2) is valid remains open, but we present a proof of (2) that is simpler than Pavlov's.  相似文献

This article is a natural continuation of [A.V. Arhangel'skii, Remainders in compactifications and generalized metrizability properties, Topology Appl. 150 (2005) 79-90]. As in [A.V. Arhangel'skii, Remainders in compactifications and generalized metrizability properties, Topology Appl. 150 (2005) 79-90], we consider the following general question: when does a Tychonoff space X have a Hausdorff compactification with a remainder belonging to a given class of spaces? A famous classical result in this direction is the well known theorem of M. Henriksen and J. Isbell [M. Henriksen, J.R. Isbell, Some properties of compactifications, Duke Math. J. 25 (1958) 83-106].It is shown that if a non-locally compact topological group G has a compactification bG such that the remainder Y=bG?G has a Gδ-diagonal, then both G and Y are separable and metrizable spaces (Theorem 5). Several corollaries are derived from this result, in particular, this one: If a compact Hausdorff space X is first countable at least at one point, and X can be represented as the union of two complementary dense subspaces Y and Z, each of which is homeomorphic to a topological group (not necessarily the same), then X is separable and metrizable (Theorem 12). It is observed that Theorem 5 does not extend to arbitrary paratopological groups. We also establish that if a topological group G has a remainder with a point-countable base, then either G is locally compact, or G is separable and metrizable.  相似文献

Abstract

Assume that is an ideal on ?, and ∑n xn is a divergent series in a Banach space X. We study the Baire category, and the measure of the set A() := {t ∈ {0, 1}?: ∑n t(n)xn is -convergent}. In the category case, we assume that has the Baire property and ∑n xn is not unconditionally convergent, and we deduce that A() is meager. We also study the smallness of A() in the measure case when the Haar probability measure λ on {0, 1}? is considered. If is analytic or coanalytic, and ∑n xn is -divergent, then λ(A()) = 0 which extends the theorem of Dindo?, ?alát and Toma. Generalizing one of their examples, we show that, for every ideal on ?, with the property of long intervals, there is a divergent series of reals such that λ(A(Fin)) = 0 and λ(A()) = 1.  相似文献

We show that the cardinality of any space X with Δ-power homogeneous semiregularization that is either Urysohn or quasiregular is bounded by 2c(X)πχ(X). This improves a result of G.J. Ridderbos who showed this bound holds for Δ-power homogeneous regular spaces. By introducing the notion of a local πθ-base, we show that this bound can be further sharpened. We also show that no H-closed extremally disconnected space is power homogeneous. This is a variation of a result of K. Kunen who showed that no compact F-space is power homogeneous.  相似文献

In this note, some problems concerning existence of maximal elements in a topological as well as in a generalized metric space, equipped with an ordering, are studied. The results presented here may be considered as a partial refinement of those established in [2] for uniform structures.  相似文献

We introduce the notions of a brush space and a weak brush space. Each of these spaces has a compact connected core with attached connected fibers and may be either compact or non-compact. Many spaces, both in the Hausdorff non-metrizable setting and in the metric setting, have realizations as (weak) brush spaces. We show that these spaces have the fixed point property if and only if subspaces with core and finitely many fibers have the fixed point property. This result generalizes the fixed point result for generalized Alexandroff/Urysohn Squares in Hagopian and Marsh (2010) [4]. We also look at some familiar examples, with and without the fixed point property, from Bing (1969) [1], Connell (1959) [3], Knill (1967) [7] and note the brush space structures related to these examples.  相似文献

We study CLP-compact spaces (every cover consisting of clopen sets has a finite subcover) and CLP-compact topological groups. In particular, we extend a theorem on CLP-compactness of products from [J. Steprāns, A. Šostak, Restricted compactness properties and their preservation under products, Topology Appl. 101 (3) (2000) 213-229] and we offer various criteria for CLP-compactness for spaces and topological groups, that work particularly well for precompact groups. This allows us to show that arbitrary products of CLP-compact pseudocompact groups are CLP-compact. For every natural n we construct:
(i)
a totally disconnected, n-dimensional, pseudocompact CLP-compact group; and
(ii)
a hereditarily disconnected, n-dimensional, totally minimal, CLP-compact group that can be chosen to be either separable metrizable or pseudocompact (a Hausdorff group G is totally minimal when all continuous surjective homomorphisms GH, with a Hausdorff group H, are open).

SupposeS is a planar space withv>4 points and letq be the positive real number such thatv=q 3+q2+q+1. Assuming a weak non-degeneracy condition, we shall show thatS has at least (q2+1)(q2+q+1) lines with equality iffq is a prime power andS=PG(3,q).  相似文献

We study the cardinalities of countably compact, locally countableT 3 spaces. For alln(<), there exists one of cardinality n . IfV=L, then there exists one of cardinalityx iffx= orx =x. MA implies that there exists one of cardinality>2.  相似文献

A concept of convergence in geodesic spaces   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
A CAT(0) space is a geodesic space for which each geodesic triangle is at least as ‘thin’ as its comparison triangle in the Euclidean plane. A notion of convergence introduced independently several years ago by Lim and Kuczumow is shown in CAT(0) spaces to be very similar to the usual weak convergence in Banach spaces. In particular many Banach space results involving weak convergence have precise analogues in this setting. At the same time, many questions remain open.  相似文献

Recently, in Cammaroto et al. (2013) [4] we obtained a generalization of the famous inequality established by A.V. Arhangel?ski? in 1969 for Hausdoff spaces. In this paper, following this line of research, we present a common variation of this inequality for Urysohn spaces by developing a Main Theorem for obtaining inequalities. In particular, we extend a 2006 inequality by Hodel for Urysohn spaces. Moreover, this extended inequality is used to analyze a result containing an increasing chain of spaces that satisfies the same cardinality inequality and this new result solves an open problem in Cammaroto et al. (2013) [4] for Urysohn spaces. This general theorem also provides a new cardinal inequality for Hausdorff spaces. The paper is concluded with some open problems.  相似文献

In [A.V. Arhangel'ski?, Remainders in compactifications and generalized metrizability properties, Topology Appl. 150 (2005) 79-90], Arhangel'ski? introduced the notion of Ohio completeness and proved it to be a useful concept in his study of remainders of compactifications and generalized metrizability properties. We will investigate the behavior of Ohio completeness with respect to closed subspaces and products. We will prove among other things that if an uncountable product is Ohio complete, then all but countably many factors are compact. As a consequence, Rκ is not Ohio complete, for every uncountable cardinal number κ.  相似文献

One can form a polygonal linkage by identifying initial and terminal points of two free linkages. Likewise, one can form a multipolygonal linkage by identifying initial and terminal points of three free linkages. The geometric and topological properties of moduli spaces of multipolygonal linkages in the plane are studied. These spaces are compact algebraic varieties. Some conditions under which these spaces are smooth manifolds, cross products or disjoint unions of moduli spaces of polygonal linkages, or connected, are determined. Dimensions in smooth manifold cases and some Euler characteristics are computed. A classification of generic multiquadrilateral linkages is also made.  相似文献
