For mathematical programs with objective involving a sum of ratios of affine functions, there are few theoretical results due to the nonconvex nature of the program. In this paper, we derive a duality theory for these programs by establishing their connection with geometric programming. This connection allows one to bring to bear the powerful theory and computational algorithms associated with geometric programming.  相似文献

It is shown that parametric linear programming algorithms work efficiently for a class of nonconvex quadratic programming problems called generalized linear multiplicative programming problems, whose objective function is the sum of a linear function and a product of two linear functions. Also, it is shown that the global minimum of the sum of the two linear fractional functions over a polytope can be obtained by a similar algorithm. Our numerical experiments reveal that these problems can be solved in much the same computational time as that of solving associated linear programs. Furthermore, we will show that the same approach can be extended to a more general class of nonconvex quadratic programming problems.  相似文献

In this paper relationships between Pareto points and saddle points are studied in convex and nonconvex multiple objective programming. The analysis is based on partitioning the index sets of objectives and constraints and splitting the original problem into subproblems having a special structure. The results are based on scalarizations of multiple objective programs and related linear and augmented Lagrangian functions. In the nonconvex case, a saddle point characterization of Pareto points is possible under assumptions that guarantee existence of Pareto points and stability conditions of single objective problems. Generalizations of the well-known simplex method for linear programming are available to solve the piecewise linear programming problem and the linear fractional programming problem. In this paper we consider a further generalization of the simplex method to solve piecewise linear fractional programming problems unifying the simplex method for linear programs, piecewise linear programs, and the linear fractional programs. Computational results are presented to obtain further insights into the behavior of the algorithm on random test problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a branch-and-bound algorithm for finding a global optimal solution for a nonconvex quadratic program with convex quadratic constraints (NQPCQC). We first reformulate NQPCQC by adding some nonconvex quadratic constraints induced by eigenvectors of negative eigenvalues associated with the nonconvex quadratic objective function to Shor’s semidefinite relaxation. Under the assumption of having a bounded feasible domain, these nonconvex quadratic constraints can be further relaxed into linear ones to form a special semidefinite programming relaxation. Then an efficient branch-and-bound algorithm branching along the eigendirections of negative eigenvalues is designed. The theoretic convergence property and the worst-case complexity of the proposed algorithm are proved. Numerical experiments are conducted on several types of quadratic programs to show the efficiency of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, with the help of convex-like function, we discuss the duality theory for nonconvex semidefinite programming. Our contributions are: duality theory for the general nonconvex semidefinite programming when Slater’s condition holds; perfect duality for a special case of the nonconvex semidefinite programming for which Slater’s condition fails. We point out that the results of Fan (Appl. Math. Lett. 18:1068–1073, 2005) can be regarded as a special case of our result.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to develop a branch-and-bound algorithm using duality bounds for the general quadratically-constrained quadratic programming problem and having the following properties: (i) duality bounds are computed by solving ordinary linear programs; (ii) they are at least as good as the lower bounds obtained by solving relaxed problems, in which each nonconvex function is replaced by its convex envelope; (iii) standard convergence properties of branch-and-bound algorithms for nonconvex global optimization problems are guaranteed. Numerical results of preliminary computational experiments for the case of one quadratic constraint are reported.  相似文献

In the present paper, we are concerned with conditions ensuring the exact penalty for nonconvex programming. Firstly, we consider problems with concave objective and constraints. Secondly, we establish various results on error bounds for systems of DC inequalities and exact penalty, with/without error bounds, in DC programming. They permit to recast several class of difficult nonconvex programs into suitable DC programs to be tackled by the efficient DCA.  相似文献

We present effective linear programming based computational techniques for solving nonconvex quadratic programs with box constraints (BoxQP). We first observe that known cutting planes obtained from the Boolean Quadric Polytope (BQP) are computationally effective at reducing the optimality gap of BoxQP. We next show that the Chvátal–Gomory closure of the BQP is given by the odd-cycle inequalities even when the underlying graph is not complete. By using these cutting planes in a spatial branch-and-cut framework, together with a common integrality-based preprocessing technique and a particular convex quadratic relaxation, we develop a solver that can effectively solve a well-known family of test instances. Our linear programming based solver is competitive with SDP-based state of the art solvers on small instances and sparse instances. Most of our computational techniques have been implemented in the recent version of CPLEX and have led to significant performance improvements on nonconvex quadratic programs with linear constraints.  相似文献

This paper considers the solution of nonconvex polynomial programming problems that arise in various engineering design, network distribution, and location-allocation contexts. These problems generally have nonconvex polynomial objective functions and constraints, involving terms of mixed-sign coefficients (as in signomial geometric programs) that have rational exponents on variables. For such problems, we develop an extension of the Reformulation-Linearization Technique (RLT) to generate linear programming relaxations that are embedded within a branch-and-bound algorithm. Suitable branching or partitioning strategies are designed for which convergence to a global optimal solution is established. The procedure is illustrated using a numerical example, and several possible extensions and algorithmic enhancements are discussed.  相似文献

We present a unified approach to establishing the existence of global minima of a (non)convex constrained optimization problem. Our results unify and generalize previous existence results for convex and nonconvex programs, including the Frank-Wolfe theorem, and for (quasi) convex quadratically constrained quadratic programs and convex polynomial programs. For example, instead of requiring the objective/constraint functions to be constant along certain recession directions, we only require them to linearly recede along these directions. Instead of requiring the objective/constraint functions to be convex polynomials, we only require the objective function to be a (quasi)convex polynomial over a polyhedral set and the constraint functions to be convex polynomials or the composition of coercive functions with linear mappings.We thank Professor Dimitri Bertsekas for his comments and support in the writing of this paper.  相似文献

Recently, Fang proposed approximating a linear program in Karmarkar's standard form by adding an entropic barrier function to the objective function and using a certain geometric inequality to transform the resulting problem into an unconstrained differentiable concave program. We show that, by using standard duality theory for convex programming, the results of Fang and his coworkers can be strengthened and extended to linearly constrained convex programs and more general barrier functions.This research was supported by the National Science Foundation, Grant No. CCR-91-03804.  相似文献

We propose a decomposition algorithm for a special class of nonconvex mixed integer nonlinear programming problems which have an assignment constraint. If the assignment decisions are decoupled from the remaining constraints of the optimization problem, we propose to use a column enumeration approach. The master problem is a partitioning problem whose objective function coefficients are computed via subproblems. These problems can be linear, mixed integer linear, (non-)convex nonlinear, or mixed integer nonlinear. However, the important property of the subproblems is that we can compute their exact global optimum quickly. The proposed technique will be illustrated solving a cutting problem with optimum nonlinear programming subproblems.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulation of a piecewise, polyhedral relaxation (PPR) of a multilinear term using its convex-hull representation. Based on the PPR’s solution, we also present a MILP formulation whose solutions are feasible for nonconvex, multilinear equations. We then present computational results showing the effectiveness of proposed formulations on standard benchmark nonlinear programs (NLPs) with multilinear terms and compare with a traditional formulation that is built using recursive bilinear groupings of multilinear terms.  相似文献

In this paper we present a number of characterizations of piecewise affine and piecewise linear functions defined on finite dimesional normed vector spaces. In particular we prove that a real-valued function is piecewise affine [resp. piecewise linear] if both its epigraph and its hypograph are (nonconvex) polyhedral sets[resp..Polyhedral cones]. Also,We show that the collection of all piecewise affine[resp.piecewise linear] functions. Nonconvex quadratic programming (QP) is an NP-hard problem that optimizes a general quadratic function over linear constraints. This paper introduces a new global optimization algorithm for this problem, which combines two ideas from the literature—finite branching based on the first-order KKT conditions and polyhedral-semidefinite relaxations of completely positive (or copositive) programs. Through a series of computational experiments comparing the new algorithm with existing codes on a diverse set of test instances, we demonstrate that the new algorithm is an attractive method for globally solving nonconvex QP.  相似文献

A nonlinear (nonconvex) programming model provides a new definition of efficiency for use in evaluating activities of not-for-profit entities participating in public programs. A scalar measure of the efficiency of each participating unit is thereby provided, along with methods for objectively determining weights by reference to the observational data for the multiple outputs and multiple inputs that characterize such programs. Equivalences are established to ordinary linear programming models for effecting computations. The duals to these linear programming models provide a new way for estimating extremal relations from observational data. Connections between engineering and economic approaches to efficiency are delineated along with new interpretations and ways of using them in evaluating and controlling managerial behavior in public programs.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the study of a new notion of linear suboptimality in constrained mathematical programming. This concept is different from conventional notions of solutions to optimization-related problems, while seems to be natural and significant from the viewpoint of modern variational analysis and applications. In contrast to standard notions, it admits complete characterizations via appropriate constructions of generalized differentiation in nonconvex settings. In this paper we mainly focus on various classes of mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints (MPECs), whose principal role has been well recognized in optimization theory and its applications. Based on robust generalized differential calculus, we derive new results giving pointwise necessary and sufficient conditions for linear suboptimality in general MPECs and its important specifications involving variational and quasivariational inequalities, implicit complementarity problems, etc. Research was partially supported by the National Science Foundation under grant DMS-0304989 and by the Australian Research Council under grant DP-0451168.  相似文献

In this paper we apply two convexification procedures to the Lagrangian of a nonconvex semi-infinite programming problem. Under the reduction approach it is shown that, locally around a local minimizer, this problem can be transformed equivalently in such a way that the transformed Lagrangian fulfills saddle point optimality conditions, where for the first procedure both the original objective function and constraints (and for the second procedure only the constraints) are substituted by their pth powers with sufficiently large power p. These results allow that local duality theory and corresponding numerical methods (e.g. dual search) can be applied to a broader class of nonconvex problems.  相似文献
