The paper considers some new classes of functions called weighted pseudo-almost periodic functions, which implement in a natural fashion the classical pseudo-almost periodic functions due to Zhang. Properties of these weighted pseudo-almost periodic functions are discussed, including a composition result for weighted pseudo-almost periodic functions. The results obtained are subsequently utilized to study the existence and uniqueness of a weighted pseudo-almost periodic solution to the heat equation with Dirichlet conditions.  相似文献

This paper concerns two topics: (1) minimal factorizations in the class ofJ-unitary rational matrix functions on the unit circle and (2) completions of contractive rational matrix functions on the unit circle to two by two block unitary rational matrix functions which do not increase the McMillan degree. The results are given in terms of a special realization which does not require any additional properties at zero and at infinity. The unitary completion result may be viewed as a generalization of Darlington synthesis.  相似文献

We first determine the maximal clones on a set X of infinite regular cardinality κ which contain all permutations but not all unary functions, extending a result of Heindorf’s for countably infinite X. If κ is countably infinite or weakly compact, this yields a list of all maximal clones containing the permutations, since in that case the maximal clones above the unary functions are known. We then generalize a result of Gavrilov’s to obtain on all infinite X a list of all maximal submonoids of the monoid of unary functions which contain the permutations. Quasi-interpolation of radial basis functions on finite grids is a very useful strategy in approximation theory and its applications. A notable strongpoint of the strategy is to obtain directly the approximants without the need to solve any linear system of equations. For radial basis functions with Gaussian kernel, there have been more studies on the interpolation and quasi-interpolation on infinite grids. This paper investigates the approximation by quasi-interpolation operators with Gaussian kernel on the compact interval. The approximation errors for two classes of function with compact support sets are estimated. Furthermore, the approximation errors of derivatives of the approximants to the corresponding derivatives of the approximated functions are estimated. Finally, the numerical experiments are presented to confirm the accuracy of the approximations.  相似文献

We introduce a family of quasisymmetric functions called Eulerian quasisymmetric functions, which specialize to enumerators for the joint distribution of the permutation statistics, major index and excedance number on permutations of fixed cycle type. This family is analogous to a family of quasisymmetric functions that Gessel and Reutenauer used to study the joint distribution of major index and descent number on permutations of fixed cycle type. Our central result is a formula for the generating function for the Eulerian quasisymmetric functions, which specializes to a new and surprising q-analog of a classical formula of Euler for the exponential generating function of the Eulerian polynomials. This q-analog computes the joint distribution of excedance number and major index, the only of the four important Euler-Mahonian distributions that had not yet been computed. Our study of the Eulerian quasisymmetric functions also yields results that include the descent statistic and refine results of Gessel and Reutenauer. We also obtain q-analogs, (q,p)-analogs and quasisymmetric function analogs of classical results on the symmetry and unimodality of the Eulerian polynomials. Our Eulerian quasisymmetric functions refine symmetric functions that have occurred in various representation theoretic and enumerative contexts including MacMahon's study of multiset derangements, work of Procesi and Stanley on toric varieties of Coxeter complexes, Stanley's work on chromatic symmetric functions, and the work of the authors on the homology of a certain poset introduced by Björner and Welker.  相似文献

We consider interpolation methods defined by positive definite functions on a locally compact group G. Estimates for the smallest and largest eigenvalue of the interpolation matrix in terms of the localization of the positive definite function on G are presented, and we provide a method to get positive definite functions explicitly on compact semisimple Lie groups. Finally, we apply our results to construct well-localized positive definite basis functions having nice stability properties on the rotation group SO(3).  相似文献

We discuss transfer-function realization for multivariable holomorphic functions mapping the unit polydisk or the right polyhalfplane into the operator analogue of either the unit disk or the right halfplane (Schur/Herglotz functions over either the unit polydisk or the right polyhalfplane) which satisfy the appropriate stronger contractive/positive real part condition for the values of these functions on commutative tuples of strict contractions/strictly accretive operators (Schur–Agler/Herglotz–Agler functions over either the unit polydisk or the right polyhalfplane). As originally shown by Agler, the first case (polydisk to disk) can be solved via unitary extensions of a partially defined isometry constructed in a canonical way from a kernel decomposition for the function (the lurking-isometry method). We show how a geometric reformulation of the lurking-isometry method (embedding of a given isotropic subspace of a Kre?n space into a Lagrangian subspace—the lurking-isotropic-subspace method) can be used to handle the second two cases (polydisk to halfplane and polyhalfplane to disk), as well as the last case (polyhalfplane to halfplane) if an additional growth condition at ∞ is imposed. For the general fourth case, we show how a linear-fractional-transformation change of variable can be used to arrive at the appropriate symmetrized nonhomogeneous Bessmertny? long-resolvent realization. We also indicate how this last result recovers the classical integral representation formula for scalar-valued holomorphic functions mapping the right halfplane into itself.  相似文献

Summary An analog of the well-known Jackson-Bernstein-Zygmund theory on best approximation by trigonometric polynomials is developed for approximation methods which use piecewise polynomial functions. Interpolation and best approximation by polynomial splines, Hermite and finite element functions are examples of such methods. A direct theorem is proven for methods which are stable, quasi-linear and optimally accurate for sufficiently smooth functions. These assumptions are known to be satisfied in many cases of practical interest. In this paper we show how the recently introduced concept of regular variation on time scales (or measure chains) is related to a Karamata type definition. We also present characterization theorems and an embedding theorem for regularly varying functions defined on suitable subsets of reals. We demonstrate that for a “reasonable” theory of regular variation on time scales, certain additional condition on a graininess is needed, which cannot be omitted. We establish a number of elementary properties of regularly varying functions. As an application, we study the asymptotic properties of solution to second order dynamic equations.  相似文献

We analyze matrix convex functions of a fixed order defined in a real interval by differential methods as opposed to the characterization in terms of divided differences given by Kraus [F. Kraus, Über konvekse Matrixfunktionen, Math. Z. 41 (1936) 18-42]. We obtain for each order conditions for matrix convexity which are necessary and locally sufficient, and they allow us to prove the existence of gaps between classes of matrix convex functions of successive orders, and to give explicit examples of the type of functions contained in each of these gaps. The given conditions are shown to be also globally sufficient for matrix convexity of order two. We finally introduce a fractional transformation which connects the set of matrix monotone functions of each order n with the set of matrix convex functions of the following order n + 1.  相似文献

Although Newman's trick has been mainly applied to the approximation of univariate functions, it is also appropriate for the approximation of multivariate functions that are encountered in connection with Green's functions for elliptic differential equations. We show how conditionally negative definite functions on spheres coupled with strictly completely monotone functions (or functions whose derivative is strictly completely monotone) can be used for Hermite interpolation. The classes of functions thus obtained have the advantage over the strictly positive definite functions studied in [17] that closed form representations (as opposed to series expansions) are readily available. Furthermore, our functions include the historically significant spherical multiquadrics. Numerical results are also presented. This paper is concerned with some properties of pseudo-almost automorphic functions, which are more general and complicated than pseudo-almost periodic functions. A survey is presented of estimates for a norm of matrix-valued and operator-valued functions obtained by the author. These estimates improve the Gel'fand-Shilov estimate for regular functions of matrices and Carleman's estimates for resolvents of matrices and compact operators.From the estimates for resolvents, the well-known result for spectrum perturbations of self-adjoint operators is extended to quasi-Hermitian operators. In addition, the classical Schur and Brown's inequalities for eigenvalues of matrices are improved.From estimates for the exponential function (semigroups), bounds for solution norms of nonlinear differential equations are derived. These bounds give the stability criteria which make it possible to avoid the construction of Lyapunov functions in appropriate situations.  相似文献

The Fourier transform for Schwartz spaces on Chébli-Trimèche hypergroups is studied, leading to results on approximation to the identity for functions and distributions on the half-line. In particular it is shown that the heat and Poisson kernels on the half-line form approximate units in various function spaces. We give general mathematical results concerning oscillating singularities and we study examples of functions composed only of oscillating singularities. These functions are defined by explicit coefficients on an orthonormal wavelet basis. Interpolation problems for analytic radial basis functions like the Gaussian and inverse multiquadrics can degenerate in two ways: the radial basis functions can be scaled to become increasingly flat, or the data points coalesce in the limit while the radial basis functions stay fixed. Both cases call for a careful regularization, which, if carried out explicitly, yields a preconditioning technique for the degenerating linear systems behind these interpolation problems. This paper deals with both cases. For the increasingly flat limit, we recover results by Larsson and Fornberg together with Lee, Yoon, and Yoon concerning convergence of interpolants towards polynomials. With slight modifications, the same technique can also handle scenarios with coalescing data points for fixed radial basis functions. The results show that the degenerating local Lagrange interpolation problems converge towards certain Hermite–Birkhoff problems. This is an important prerequisite for dealing with approximation by radial basis functions adaptively, using freely varying data sites.  相似文献
