Here we consider initial boundary value problems for the heat equation by using the heat potential representation for the solution. Depending on the choice of the representation we are led to a solution of the various boundary integral equations. We discuss the solvability of these equations in anisotropic Sobolev spaces. It turns out that the double-layer heat potential D and its spatial adjoint D′ have smoothing properties similar to the single-layer heat operator. This yields compactness of the operators D and D′. In addition, for any constant c ≠ 0, cI + D′ and cI + D′ are isomorphisms. Based on the coercivity of the single-layer heat operator and the above compactness we establish the coerciveness of the hypersingular heat operator. Moreover, we show an equivalence between the weak solution and the various boundary integral solutions. As a further application we describe a coupling procedure for an exterior initial boundary value problem for the non-homogeneous heat equation.  相似文献

In this article a numerical method for solving a two‐dimensional transport equation in the stationary case is presented. Using the techniques of the variational calculus, we find the approximate solution for a homogeneous boundary‐value problem that corresponds to a square domain D2. Then, using the method of the fictitious domain, we extend our algorithm to a boundary value problem for a set D that has an arbitrary shape. In this approach, the initial computation domain D (called physical domain) is immersed in a square domain D2. We prove that the solution obtained by this method is a good approximation of the exact solution. The theoretical results are verified with the help of a numerical example. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2010  相似文献

The paper considers the solution of the boundary value problem (BVP) consisting of the Helmholtz equation in the region D with a rigid boundary condition on ∂D and its reformulation as a boundary integral equation (BIE), over an infinite cylindrical surface of arbitrary smooth cross-section. A boundary integral equation, which models three-dimensional acoustic scattering from an infinite rigid cylinder, illustrates the application of the above results to prove existence of solution of the integral equation and the corresponding boundary value problem.  相似文献

In this paper we study an integral equation method for the exterior Robin problem for the Helmholtz equation where the boundary condition is interpreted in the L2-sense. In particular, we derive a composite integral equation from Green's theorem which is uniquely solvable for all wave numbers.  相似文献

Summary In this paper we apply the coupling of boundary integral and finite element methods to solve a nonlinear exterior Dirichlet problem in the plane. Specifically, the boundary value problem consists of a nonlinear second order elliptic equation in divergence form in a bounded inner region, and the Laplace equation in the corresponding unbounded exterior region, in addition to appropriate boundary and transmission conditions. The main feature of the coupling method utilized here consists in the reduction of the nonlinear exterior boundary value problem to an equivalent monotone operator equation. We provide sufficient conditions for the coefficients of the nonlinear elliptic equation from which existence, uniqueness and approximation results are established. Then, we consider the case where the corresponding operator is strongly monotone and Lipschitz-continuous, and derive asymptotic error estimates for a boundary-finite element solution. We prove the unique solvability of the discrete operator equations, and based on a Strang type abstract error estimate, we show the strong convergence of the approximated solutions. Moreover, under additional regularity assumptions on the solution of the continous operator equation, the asymptotic rate of convergenceO (h) is obtained. The first author's research was partly supported by the U.S. Army Research Office through the Mathematical Science Institute of Cornell University, by the Universidad de Concepción through the Facultad de Ciencias, Dirección de Investigación and Vicerretoria, and by FONDECYT-Chile through Project 91-386.  相似文献

Both exterior and interior mixed Dirichlet-Neumann problems in R3 for the scalar Helmholtz equation are solved via boundary integral equations. The integral equations are equivalent to the original problem in the sense that the traces of the weak seolution satisfy the integral equations, and, conversely, the solution of the integral equations inserted into Green's formula yields the solution of the mixed boundary value problem. The calculus of pseudodifferential operators is used to prove existence and regularity of the solution of the integral equations. The regularity results — obtained via Wiener-Hopf technique — show the explicit “edge” behavior of the solution near the submanifold which separates the Dirichlet boundary from the Neumann boundary.  相似文献

In this paper, by using the technique of integral transformation, we obtain the Plemelj formulas with the Cauchy principal value and the Hadamard principal value of mixed higher order partial derivatives for integral of the Bochner-Martinelli type on a closed smooth manifold ∂D in Cn. From the Plemelj formulas and using the theory of complex partial differential equation, we prove that the problem of higher order boundary value DκΦ+(t) = DκΦ(t) + f(t) is equivalent to a complex linear higher order partial differential equation. Moreover, given a proper condition of the Cauchy boundary value problem, the problem of higher order boundary value has a unique branch complex harmonic solution satisfying Φ(∞) = 0 in Cn\∂D.  相似文献

We consider a sequence of exterior domains Dj,j∈ℕ0, and assume that the boundaries ∂Dj converge to ∂D0 with respect to the Hausdorff distance. We investigate solutions to the exterior Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation and for the Helmholtz equation in these domains. Assuming convergence of the boundary data and DjD0, j∈ℕ, then, by essentially using the method of Perron, we show that the solutions in the domains Dj converge to the solution in the domain D0 with respect to the maximum norm. We prove the same result in case that the requirement DjD0,j∈ℕ, is replaced by an equicontinuity property of all barrier functions to all boundary points. © 1997 by B. G. Summary. We consider the Maxwell equations in a domain with Lipschitz boundary and the boundary integral operator A occuring in the Calderón projector. We prove an inf-sup condition for A using a Hodge decomposition. We apply this to two types of boundary value problems: the exterior scattering problem by a perfectly conducting body, and the dielectric problem with two different materials in the interior and exterior domain. In both cases we obtain an equivalent boundary equation which has a unique solution. We then consider Galerkin discretizations with Raviart-Thomas spaces. We show that these spaces have discrete Hodge decompositions which are in some sense close to the continuous Hodge decomposition. This property allows us to prove quasioptimal convergence of the resulting boundary element methods. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000):65N30  相似文献

We prove unique existence of solution for the impedance (or third) boundary value problem for the Helmholtz equation in a half-plane with arbitrary L boundary data. This problem is of interest as a model of outdoor sound propagation over inhomogeneous flat terrain and as a model of rough surface scattering. To formulate the problem and prove uniqueness of solution we introduce a novel radiation condition, a generalization of that used in plane wave scattering by one-dimensional diffraction gratings. To prove existence of solution and a limiting absorption principle we first reformulate the problem as an equivalent second kind boundary integral equation to which we apply a form of Fredholm alternative, utilizing recent results on the solvability of integral equations on the real line in [5]. © 1997 B. In this paper we describe some modified regularized boundary integral equations to solve the exterior boundary value problem for the Helmholtz equation with either Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. We formulate combined boundary integral equations which are uniquely solvable for all wave numbers even for Lipschitz boundaries Γ=∂Ω. This approach extends and unifies existing regularized combined boundary integral formulations.  相似文献

Free boundary problems are considered, where the tangential and normal components ut and un of an otherwise unknown plane harmonic vector field are prescribed along the unknown boundary curve as a function of the coordinates x, y and the tangent angle θ. The vector field is required to exist either in the interior region G+ or in the exterior G?. In each case the free boundary is characterized by a nonlinear integral equation. A linearised version of this equation is a one-dimensional singular integral equation. Under rather general hypotheses which are easy to check, the properties of the linear equation are described by Noether's theorems. The regularity of the solution is studied and the effect of the nonlinear terms is estimated. A variant of the Nash-Moser implicit-function theorem can be applied. This yields local existence and uniqueness theorems for the free boundary problem in Hölder-classes H2+μ. The boundary curve depends continuously on the defining data. Finally some examples are given, where the linearised equation can be completely discussed.  相似文献

The method of boundary integral equations is used for solving the first initial boundary value problem for a compound type equation in a three-dimensional multiply connected region. The problem is reduced to a uniquely solvable integral equation. The solution of the problem is obtained in the form of dynamic potentials whose density satisfies this integral equation. Thus the existence theorem is proved. Moreover, the uniqueness of the solution is also studied. All the results are valid for both interior and exterior regions provided that the corresponding conditions at infinity are taken into account. Based on the coupling of the natural boundary integral method and the finite elements method, we mainly investigate the numerical solution of Neumann problem of harmonic equation in an exterior elliptic. Using our trigonometric wavelets and Galerkin method, there obtained stiffness matrix is symmetrical and circulant, which lead us to a fast numerical method based on fast Fourier transform. Furthermore, we do not need to compute the entries of the stiffness matrix. On the other hand, we prove that the numerical solution possesses exponential convergence rate. Especially, examples state that our method still has good accuracy for small j when the solution u 0(θ) is almost singular.  相似文献

The Neumann problem for Laplace's equation in a polygonal domain is associated with the exterior Dirichlet problem obtained by requiring the continuity of the potential through the boundary. Then the solution is the simple layer potential of the charge q on the boundary. q is the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind that we solve by the Galerkin method. The charge q has a singular part due to the corners, so the optimal order of convergence is not reached with a uniform mesh. We restore this optimal order by grading the mesh adequately near the corners. The interior Dirichlet problem is solved analogously, by expressing the solution as a double layer potential.  相似文献

Summary.   In this paper we establish a error estimation on the boundary for the solution of an exterior Neumann problem in . To solve this problem we consider an integral representation which depends from the solution of a boundary integral equation. We use a full piecewise linear discretisation which on one hand leads to a simple numerical algorithm but on the other hand the error analysis becomes more difficult due to the singularity of the integral kernel. We construct a particular approximation for the solution of the boundary integral equation, for the solution of the Neumann problem and its gradient on the boundary and estimate their error. We study in this paper a free boundary value problem ( FB ), where a region Go in R 3 is determined by the condition that there exists a vector field vo in Go which satisfies div vo = eo, curl vo = go in Go and vo = E on the boundary ?Go with a given scalar function eo and given vector fields go and E. We give two equivalent formulations for this problem. Then we characterize the solutions by a non-linear integral equation. In order to solve the latter by a Newton method we linearize this equation. We investigate the ensuing linear integral equation. In case of axisymmetric configurations this is a singular integral equation whose index can be easily determined from the given data. We obtain a related equation, if we try to construct a field v in a region G which is on the boundary perpendicular to a given field B . Finally we use this method to investigate an astrophysical problem, which arises in the theory of pulsar magnetospheres.  相似文献

We consider a linear integral equation with a hypersingular integral treated in the sense of the Hadamard finite value. This equation arises in the solution of the Neumann boundary value problem for the Laplace equation with a representation of a solution in the form of a double-layer potential. We consider the case in which the interior or exterior boundary value problem is solved in a domain; whose boundary is a smooth closed surface, and an integral equation is written out on that surface. For the integral operator in that equation, we suggest quadrature formulas like the method of vortical frames with a regularization, which provides its approximation on the entire surface for the use of a nonstructured partition. We construct a numerical scheme for the integral equation on the basis of suggested quadrature formulas, prove an estimate for the norm of the inverse matrix of the related system of linear equations and the uniform convergence of numerical solutions to the exact solution of the hypersingular integral equation on the grid.  相似文献
