The age-dependent block replacement policy is a modified block replacement policy with an age limit for preventive replacements. Under this policy, any failed component is repaired, but only the components whose ages exceed a fixed age limit are replaced preventively at the scheduled maintenance times. Using the compensator method, we compare stochastically the failure counting processes of the age-dependent block replacement policies with different parameters, and show that the age-dependent block replacement policy, although cost effective, leads to more failures than the age and block replacement policies. In this paper, we consider an age-replacement model with minimal repair based on a cumulative repair cost limit and random lead time for replacement delivery. A cumulative repair cost limit policy uses information about a system’s entire repair cost history to decide whether the system is repaired or replaced; a random lead time models delay in delivery of a replacement once it is ordered. A general cost model is developed for the average cost per unit time based on the stochastic behavior of the assumed system, reflecting the costs of both storing a spare and of system downtime. The optimal age for preventive replacement minimizing that cost rate is derived, its existence and uniqueness is shown, and structural properties are presented. Various special cases are included, and a numerical example is given for illustration. Because the framework and analysis are general, the proposed model extends several existing results.  相似文献

This paper presents a model for determining the optimal number of minimal repairs before ordering spare for preventive replacement. By introducing the costs of ordering, repair, downtime, replacement, and the salvage value of an un-failed system, the expected long-term cost rates and cost effectiveness are derived. It is shown that, under certain conditions, the optimal number of minimal repairs, which minimizes the cost rate or maximizes the cost effectiveness, is given by a unique solution of an equation. A numerical example is also given for illustration of the proposed model.  相似文献

This paper takes up age and periodic replacement last models with working cycles, where the unit is replaced before failure at a total operating time T or at a random working cycle Y, whichever occurs last, which is called replacement last. Expected cost rates are formulated, and optimal replacement policies which minimize them are discussed analytically. Comparisons between such a replacement last and the conventional replacement first are made in detail. It is determined theoretically and numerically which policy is better than the other according to the ratios of replacement costs and how the mean time of working cycles affects the comparison results. It is also shown that the unit can be operating for a longer time and avoid unnecessary replacements when replacement last is done. For further studies, expected cost rates of modified models and their applications in a standard cumulative damage model with working cycles are obtained and computed numerically. Finally, case studies on replacement last and first in maintaining electronic systems of naval ships under battle and non-battle statuses are given.  相似文献

A continuously monitored system is considered, that gradually and stochastically deteriorates according to a bivariate non-decreasing Lévy process. The system is considered as failed as soon as its bivariate deterioration level enters a failure zone, assumed to be an upper set. A preventive maintenance policy is proposed, which involves a delayed replacement, triggered by the reaching of some preventive zone for the system deterioration level. The preventive maintenance policy is assessed through a cost function on an infinite horizon time. The cost function is provided in full form, and tools are provided for its numerical computation. The influence of different parameters on the cost function is studied, both from a theoretical and/or numerical point of view.  相似文献

This paper presents a spare ordering policy for preventive replacement with age-dependent minimal repair and salvage value consideration. The spare unit for replacement is available only by order and the lead-time for delivering the spare due to regular or expedited ordering follows general distributions. To analyze the ordering policy, the failure process is modelled by a non-homogeneous Poisson process. By introducing the costs due to ordering, repairs, replacements and downtime, as well as the salvage value of an un-failed system, the expected cost effectiveness in the long run are derived as a criterion of optimality. It is shown, under certain conditions, there exists a finite and unique optimum ordering time which maximizes the expected cost effectiveness. Finally, numerical examples are given for illustration.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the maintenance policy following the expiration of the non‐renewing replacement–repair warranty (NRRW). For such purposes, we first define the non‐renewing free replacement–repair warranty and the non‐renewing pro rata replacement–repair warranty. Then the maintenance model following the expiration of the NRRW is discussed from the user's point of view. As the criterion to determine the optimal maintenance strategy, we formulate the expected cost rate per unit time from the user's perspective. All system maintenance costs incurred after the warranty is expired are paid by the user. Given the cost structures during the life cycle of the system, we determine the optimal maintenance period following the expiration of the NRRW. Finally, a few numerical examples are given for illustrative purposes. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In general, the initiation of preventive maintenance should be based on the technical state as well as the operating state of a production system. Since the operating state of a production system is often subject to fluctuations in time, the planning of preventive maintenance at preset points in time (e.g. age/block replacement) cannot be optimal. Therefore, we propose a so-called two-stage maintenance policy, which - in a first stage - uses the technical state of the production system to determine a finite interval [t, t + At] during which preventive maintenance must be carried out, and - in a second stage - uses the operating state of the production system to determine the optimal starting time t̂ for preventive maintenance within that interval. A generalized age maintenance policy optimizing both t and At is formulated in the first stage. To this end, the actual starting time of preventive maintenance is modelled in terms of a uniform distribution over the maintenance interval. Moreover, the expected costs of preventive maintenance are modelled as a decreasing function of the interval size. An efficient algorithm is developed to demonstrate the optimal strategy for a queue-like production system, via numerical results that offer useful insights.  相似文献

This paper considers an optimal maintenance policy for a practical and reparable deteriorating system subject to random shocks. Modeling the repair time by a geometric process and the failure mechanism by a generalized δ-shock process, we develop an explicit expression of the long-term average cost per time unit for the system under a threshold-type replacement policy. Based on this average cost function, we propose a finite search algorithm to locate the optimal replacement policy N to minimize the average cost rate. We further prove that the optimal policy N is unique and present some numerical examples. Many practical systems fit the model developed in this paper.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of determining optimal operating conditions for a data processing system. The system is burned‐in for a fixed burn‐in time before it is put into field operation and, in field operation, it has a work size and follows an age‐replacement policy. Assuming that the underlying lifetime distribution of the system has a bathtub‐shaped failure rate function, the properties of optimal burn‐in time, optimal work size and optimal age‐replacement policy will be derived. It can be seen that this model is a generalization of those considered in the previous works, and it yields a better optimal operating conditions. This paper presents an analytical method for three‐dimensional optimization problem. An algorithm for determining optimal operating conditions is also given. We develop a delay time model (DTM) to determine the optimal maintenance policy under a novel assumption: postponed replacement. Delay time is defined as the time lapse from the occurrence of a defect up until failure. Inspections can be performed to monitor the system state at non-negligible cost. Most works in the literature assume that instantaneous replacement is enforced as soon as a defect is detected at an inspection. In contrast, we relax this assumption and allow replacement to be postponed for an additional time period. The key motivation is to achieve better utilization of the system’s useful life, and reduce replacement costs by providing a sufficient time window to prepare maintenance resources. We model the preventive replacement cost as a non-increasing function of the postponement interval. We then derive the optimal policy under the modified assumption for a system with exponentially distributed defect arrival time, both for a deterministic delay time and for a more general random delay time. For the settings with a deterministic delay time, we also establish an upper bound on the cost savings that can be attained. A numerical case study is presented to benchmark the benefits of our modified assumption against conventional instantaneous replacement discussed in the literature.  相似文献

A general age-replacement model in which incorporates minimal repair, planned and unplanned replacement, is considered in this paper for products under a renewing free-replacement warranty policy. For both warranted and non-warranted products, cost models from the user’s perspective are developed, and the corresponding optimal replacement ages are derived such that the long-run expected cost rate is minimized. The impacts of a product warranty on the optimal replacement model are investigated analytically. Furthermore, we show that the optimal replacement age for a warranted product is closer to the end of the warranty period than for a non-warranted product. Finally, numerical examples are given for illustration.  相似文献

In this study, a mechanical system with linear deterioration and preventive maintenance is considered. The state of the system over time is represented by a semicontinuous stochastic process with dependent components. The system cycles through on and off periods during its lifetime. The state of the system deteriorates linearly as a function of the usage time during on periods. When the system is offline, preventive maintenance is conducted, which improves the system state by a random amount. The system's on and off times and random improvement amounts are assumed to have general distributions. For such a system, our objective is to determine the expected value and variance for the number of preventive maintenance activities needed during the system lifetime and to propose a novel replacement policy for the system based on delay‐time modeling. Finally, the effectiveness of the obtained asymptotic results and the proposed replacement policy are tested through simulation.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a periodic preventive maintenance model, from the manufacturer's perspective, which can be implemented to reduce the maintenance cost of a repairable product during a given warranty period. The product is assumed to deteriorate with age and the warranty policy we adopt in this paper takes into account the two factors of failure time and repair time of the product when the product failure occurs. Under the proposed two-factor warranty, a repair time threshold is pre-determined and if the repair takes more time than that of the threshold, the failed product is replaced with a renewed warranty policy. Otherwise, the product is only minimally repaired to return to the operating state. During such a renewable warranty period, preventive maintenance is conducted to reduce the rate of degradation periodically while the product is in operation. By assuming certain cost structures, we formulate the expected warranty cost during the warranty period from the manufacturer's perspective when a periodic preventive maintenance strategy is adapted. Although more frequent preventive maintenance increases the warranty cost, the chance of product failures would be reduced. The main aim of this paper is to accomplish the optimal trade-off between the warranty cost and the preventive maintenance period by determining the optimal preventive maintenance period that minimizes the total expected warranty cost during the warranty period. Assuming the power law process for the product failures, we illustrate our proposed maintenance model numerically and study the impact of relevant parameters on the optimal preventive maintenance policy.  相似文献

A machine consists of two stochastically failing units. Failure of either of the units causes a failure of the machine and the failed unit has to be replaced immediately. Associated with the units are running costs which increase with the age of the unit because of increasing maintenance costs, decreasing output, etc.A preventive replacement policy is proposed under which, at failure points, we also replace the second unit if its age exceeds a predetermined control limit. It is proved that, for two identical units with exponential life-time distributions and linear running costs, this policy is optimal and the optimal control limit is calculated. In an additional model we take into consideration the length of time it takes to replace one unit or both units. The method of solution is a variation of dynamic semi-Markov programming. Analytical results are obtained and the influence of the various parameters on them is investigated. Finally, we study the saving due to our policy in comparison with a policy in which only failed units are replaced.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a production-inventory system in which an input generating installation supplies a buffer with a raw material and a production unit pulls the raw material from the buffer with constant rate. The installation deteriorates in time and the problem of its optimal preventive maintenance is considered. It is assumed that the installation after the completion of its maintenance remains idle until the buffer is evacuated. Under a suitable cost structure it is shown that the average-cost optimal policy for fixed buffer content is of control-limit type, i.e. it prescribes a preventive maintenance of the installation if and only if its degree of deterioration is greater than or equal to a critical level. Using the usual regenerative argument, the average cost of a control-limit policy is computed exactly and then, the optimal control-limit policy is determined. Furthermore, the stationary probabilities of the system under the optimal policy are computed.  相似文献

Preventive maintenance policies have been studied in the literature without considering the risk due to the cost variability. In this paper, we consider the two most popular preventive replacement policies, namely, age and block replacement policies under long-run average cost and expected unit time cost criteria. To quantify the risk in the preventive maintenance policies, we use the long-run variance of the accumulated cost over a time interval. We numerically derive the Risk-sensitive preventive replacement policies and study the impact of the Risk-sensitive optimality criterion on the managerial decisions. We also examine the performance of the expected unit time cost criterion as an alternative to the traditional long-run average cost criterion.  相似文献
