Coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectroscopy of gas‐phase CO2 is demonstrated using a single femtosecond (fs) laser beam. A shaped ultrashort laser pulse with a transform‐limited temporal width of ∼7 fs and spectral bandwidth of ∼225 nm (∼3500 cm−1) is employed for simultaneous excitation of the CO2 Fermi dyads at ∼1285 and ∼1388 cm−1. CARS signal intensities for the two Raman transitions and their ratio as a function of pressure are presented. The signal‐to‐noise ratio of the single beam–generated CO2 CARS signal is sufficient to perform concentration measurements at a rate of 1 kHz. The implications of these experiments for measuring CO2 concentrations and rapid pressure fluctuations in hypersonic and detonation‐based chemically reacting flows are also discussed. The high‐resolution stimulated Raman spectrum of the 2ν10 band located at 1664.16 cm−1 of C2H4 has been reanalyzed, thanks to the tensorial formalism developed in Dijon for X2Y4 asymmetric‐top molecules. A total of 191 lines were assigned and fitted as a single band without including perturbations such as Fermi or Coriolis coupling constants. We obtained a global root mean square deviation of 8.5 × 10−3 cm−1. Further investigations are required to include interactions with the ν2 and ν7 + ν10 bands. Aromatic interactions are important stabilizing forces in proteins but are difficult to detect in the absence of high‐resolution structures. Ultraviolet resonance Raman spectroscopy is used to probe the vibrational signatures of aromatic interactions in TrpZip2, a synthetic β‐hairpin peptide that is stabilized by edge‐to‐face and face‐to‐face tryptophan π‐π interactions. The vibrational markers of isolated edge‐to‐face π‐π interactions are investigated in the related β‐hairpin peptide W2W11. The bands that comprise the Fermi doublet exhibit systematic shifts in position and intensity for TrpZip2 and W2W11 relative to the model peptide, W2W9, which does not form aromatic interactions. Additionally, hypochromism of the Bb absorption band of tryptophan in TrpZip2 leads to a decrease in the relative Raman cross‐sections of Bb‐coupled Raman bands. These results reveal spectral markers for stabilizing tryptophan π‐π interactions and indicate that ultraviolet resonance Raman may be an important tool for the characterization of these biological forces. We demonstrate a new technique that combines polarization sensitivity of the coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) response with heterodyne amplification for background‐free detection of CARS signals. In this heterodyne interferometric polarization CARS (HIP‐CARS), the major drawbacks of polarization and heterodyne CARS are rectified. Using a home‐built picosecond optical parametric oscillator, we are able to address vibrational stretches between 600 and 1650 cm−1 and record continuous high‐resolution Raman equivalent HIP‐CARS spectra. Raman and IR experiments have been carried out on formamide (FA) and pyridine (Py) mixtures at different compositions. The appearance of a new Raman band at 996 cm−11 region of Py), whose intensity depends on the FA concentration, is assigned to an FA:Py adduct and this result is in excellent agreement with those of other authors who employed noisy light‐based coherent Raman scattering spectroscopy (I(2) CARS). Another band at 1587 cm−18 region of Py) has been observed for the first time by using Raman and IR spectroscopies. Its intensity shows the same dependence on the FA concentration and this fact allows us to also attribute it to an FA:Py adduct. The good relationship between the Raman and IR data demonstrates the potential of the vibrational spectroscopy for this kind of study. Owing to higher absolute Raman scattering cross section, the ν1 region of Py has been chosen for the quantitative analysis and a stoichiometry of 1:1 FA:Py is reported. The experimental data are very well supported by the density functional theory (DFT) calculation, which was employed for the first time to the present system. Furthermore, the actual investigation shows an excellent agreement with those reported from computational calculations for similar systems. A comparison with our previous studies confirms that the solvent dielectric constant determines the stoichiometry of a given Lewis acid–base adduct in the infinite dilution limit. The excited state structural dynamics of 4‐cyanobenzaldehyde (p‐CNB) were studied by using the resonance Raman spectroscopy and the quantum mechanical calculations. The experimental A‐ and B‐band absorptions were, respectively, assigned to the major nO → π3* and π2 → π3* transitions according to the B3LYP‐TD/6‐31G(d) and CIS/6‐31G(d) computations, and the resonance Raman spectra. It was determined that the actual S22π3) state was in energy lower than S31π3), which was just opposite to the B3LYP‐TD/6‐31G(d) calculated order of the S21π3) and S32π3). The vibrational assignments were carried out for the A‐ and B‐band resonance Raman spectra. The B‐band resonance Raman intensities of p‐CNB were dominated by the C2–C3/C5–C6 symmetric stretch mode ν8, the overtones nν8 and their combination bands with the ring C–H bend mode ν17, the C9–N10 stretch mode ν6, the C7–O8 stretch mode ν7 and the remaining modes. The conical intersection between S1(nOπ3) and S22π3) states of p‐CNB was determined at complete active space self‐consistent field (CASSCF)(8,7)/6‐311G(d,p) level of theory. The B‐band short‐time structural dynamics and the corresponding decay dynamics of p‐CNB were obtained by analysis of the resonance Raman intensity pattern and CASSCF computations. The resonance Raman spectra indicated that CI[S1(nOπ3)/S21π2π3π4)] located nearby the Franck–Condon region. The excited state decay dynamics evolving from the S2, FC2π3) to the S1(nOπ3) state was proposed. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Adsorption of 4,4′‐thiobisbenzenethiol (4,4′‐TBBT) on a colloidal silver surface and a roughened silver electrode surface was investigated by means of surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for the first time, which indicates that 4,4′‐TBBT is chemisorbed on the colloidal silver surface as dithiolates by losing two H‐atoms of the S H bond, while as monothiolates on the roughened silver electrode. The different orientations of the molecules on both silver surfaces indicate the different adsorption behaviors of 4,4′‐TBBT in the two systems. It is inferred from the SERS signal that the two aromatic rings in 4,4′‐TBBT molecule are parallel to the colloidal silver surface as seen from the disappearance of νC H band (3054 cm−1), which is a vibrational mode to be used to determine the orientation of a molecule on metals according to the surface selection rule, while on the roughened silver electrode surface they are tilted to the surface as seen from the enhanced signal of νC H. The orientation of the C‐S bond is tilted with respect to the silver surface in both cases as inferred from the strong enhancement of the νC S. SERS spectra of 4,4′‐TBBT on the roughened silver electrode with different applied potentials reveal that the enhancement of 4,4′‐TBBT on the roughened silver electrode surface may be related to the chemical mechanism (CM). More importantly, the adsorption of 4,4′‐TBBT on the silver electrode is expected to be useful to covalently adsorb metal nanoparticles through the free S H bond to form two‐ or three‐ dimensional nanostructures. B3‐LYP/cc‐pVDZ calculations of the gas‐phase structure and vibrational spectra of the isolated molecule cyclo(L ‐Ser‐L ‐Ser), a cyclic di‐amino acid peptide (CDAP), were carried out by assuming C2 symmetry. It is predicted that the minimum‐energy structure is a boat conformation for the diketopiperazine (DKP) ring with both L ‐seryl side chains being folded slightly above the ring. An additional structure of higher energy (15.16 kJ mol−1) has been calculated for a DKP ring with a planar geometry, although in this case two fundamental vibrations have been calculated with imaginary wavenumbers. The reported X‐ray crystallographic structure of cyclo(L ‐Ser‐L ‐Ser), shows that the DKP ring displays a near‐planar conformation, with both the two L ‐seryl side chains being folded above the ring. It is hypothesized that the crystal packing forces constrain the DKP ring in a planar conformation and it is probable that the lower energy boat conformation may prevail in the aqueous environment. Raman scattering and Fourier‐transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectra of solid state and aqueous solution samples of cyclo(L ‐Ser‐L ‐Ser) are reported and discussed. Vibrational band assignments have been made on the basis of comparisons with the calculated vibrational spectra and band wavenumber shifts upon deuteration of labile protons. The experimental Raman and IR results for solid‐state samples show characteristic amide I vibrations which are split (Raman: 1661 and 1687 cm−1, IR: 1666 and 1680 cm−1), possibly due to interactions between molecules in a crystallographic unit cell. The cis amide I band is differentiated by its deuterium shift of ∼30 cm−1, which is larger than that previously reported for trans amide I deuterium shifts. A cis amide II mode has been assigned to a Raman band located at 1520 cm−1. The occurrence of this cis amide II mode at a wavenumber above 1500 cm−1 concurs with results of previously examined CDAP molecules with low molecular weight substituents on the Cα atoms, and is also indicative of a relatively unstrained DKP ring. A high‐resolution (∼0.1 cm−1) spectroscopic method based on the application of a Fabry–Pérot interferometer to the spectral analysis of the coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) signal from an individual Raman transition was used to obtain single‐shot spectra of hydrogen Q‐branch transitions directly in the flame of a pulsed, high‐pressure H2/O2 combustion chamber. Simultaneously with the Fabry–Pérot pattern, a broadband CARS spectrum of the complete H2Q ‐branch structure was recorded in order to measure the temperature of the probe volume. During every cycle of the combustion chamber, a pressure pulse together with single‐shot CARS spectra, providing information on individual line shapes and medium temperature, was recorded. On the basis of the experimental data, the temperature dependences of lineshift coefficients for several Q‐branch lines of hydrogen molecules under collisions with water molecules were determined in the temperature range 2100 < T < 3500 K, and an empirical ‘fitting law’ for H2 H2O lineshift coefficients is proposed. Pure nesquehonite (MgCO3·3H2O)/Mg(HCO3)(OH)·2H2O was synthesised and characterised by a combination of thermo‐Raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetry with evolved gas analysis. Thermo‐Raman spectroscopy shows an intense band at 1098 cm−1, which shifts to 1105 cm−1 at 450 °C, assigned to the ν1CO32− symmetric stretching mode. Two bands at 1419 and 1509 cm−1 assigned to the ν3 antisymmetric stretching mode shift to 1434 and 1504 cm−1 at 175 °C. Two new peaks at 1385 and 1405 cm−1 observed at temperatures higher than 175 °C are assigned to the antisymmetric stretching modes of the (HCO3) units. Throughout all the thermo‐Raman spectra, a band at 3550 cm−1 is attributed to the stretching vibration of OH units. Raman bands at 3124, 3295 and 3423 cm−1 are assigned to water stretching vibrations. The intensity of these bands is lost by 175 °C. The Raman spectra were in harmony with the thermal analysis data. This research has defined the thermal stability of one of the hydrous carbonates, namely nesquehonite. Thermo‐Raman spectroscopy enables the thermal stability of the mineral nesquehonite to be defined, and, further, the changes in the formula of nesquehonite with temperature change can be defined. Indeed, Raman spectroscopy enables the formula of nesquehonite to be better defined as Mg(OH)(HCO3)·2H2O. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Vibrational coupling between different kinds of molecules in liquid mixture is studied by multiplex coherent anti‐Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS). To identify vibrational coherence, fs‐probe with high time resolution and narrowband‐probe with high spectral resolution are adopted in CARS experiments. Using liquid nitromethane (NM) mixed with organic dye IR780 perchlorate as the sample, we can clearly observe the interference between different vibrational modes. The intermolecular vibrational interaction between NM and IR780 molecules results in the vibrational coherence transfer (VCT) in the form of a change of phase correlation. Compared with symmetric bending vibration of NO2, coherence transfer is found to be easier to take place between C―N bond of NM and vibrations of IR780, which indicates the selectivity of intermolecular vibrational interaction. The selectivity is deduced to be related to the coordination between intramolecular and collective motion of molecules. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The influence of lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, and cesium on the electronic system of the 4‐nitrobenzoic acid molecule was studied. The vibrational (FT‐IR, FT‐Raman) and NMR (1H and 13C) spectra for 4‐nitrobenzoic acid salts of alkali metals were recorded. The assignment of vibrational spectra was done. Characteristic shifts of band wavenumbers and change in band intensities along the metal series were observed. Good correlation between the wavenumbers of the vibrational bands in the IR and Raman spectra for 4‐nitrobenzoates and ionic potential, electronegativity, atomic mass, and affinity of metals were found. The chemical shifts of protons and carbons (1H, 13C NMR) in the series of studied alkali metal 4‐nitrobenzoates were observed too. Optimized geometrical structures of studied compounds were calculated by HF, B3PW91, B3LYP methods using 6‐311++G** basis set. The theoretical IR, Raman, and NMR spectra were obtained. The theoretical vibrational spectra were interpreted by means of potential energy distributions (PEDs) using VEDA 3 program. The calculated parameters were compared to experimental characteristic of studied compounds. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A concentration‐dependent Raman study of the ν(C Br) stretching and trigonal bending modes of 2‐ and 3‐Br‐pyridine (2Br‐p and 3Br‐p) in CH3OH was performed at different mole fractions of the reference molecule, 2Br‐p/3Br‐p, from 0.1 to 0.9 in order to understand the origin of blue/red wavenumber shifts of the vibrational modes due to hydrogen‐bond formation. The appearance of additional Raman bands in these binary systems at ∼617 cm−1in the case of 2Br‐p and at ∼618 cm−1 in the case of 3Br‐p compared to neat bromopyridine derivatives were attributed to specific hydrogen‐bonded complexes formed in the mixtures. The interpretation of experimental results is supported by density functional calculations on optimized geometries and vibrational wavenumbers of 2Br‐p and 3Br‐p and a series of hydrogen‐bonded complexes with methanol. The parameters obtained from these calculations were used for a qualitative explanation of the blue/red shifts. The wavenumber shifts and linewidth changes for the ν(C Br) stretching and trigonal bending modes as a function of concentration reveal that the caging effects leading to motional narrowing and diffusion‐causing line broadening are simultaneously operative, in addition to the blue shift caused due to hydrogen bonding. Nitriles introduced into peptides and proteins can serve as useful vibrational spectroscopic probes, because the nitrile C ≡ N stretch is well isolated from backbone and sidechain vibrational bands. Aromatic nitriles offer large νC ≡ N absorption intensity in infrared spectra and resonance enhancement in Raman spectra with ultraviolet excitation. We report the ultraviolet resonance Raman spectra of cyanophenylalanine attached to cysteine, through linkage reactions that are applicable to cysteine residues in proteins. Excitation profiles are reported, and the νC ≡ N detection limit is estimated to be 5 µ m . The band position is sensitive to solvent polarity and especially to strong H‐bonding. The derivatization of mastoparan X peptide at introduced cysteine residues demonstrated the effectiveness of a cyanophenylcysteine probe in reporting the lowered environmental polarity when the peptide was incorporated into liposomes. For an asymmetrical cyanophenyl derivative, 2‐CBCys, the intensity ratio of asymmetric and symmetric ring modes, ν8b and ν8a, was found to respond to solvent polarity and not to H‐bonding. Raman spectra of 3CHBT in unoriented form were recorded at 14 different temperature measurements in the range 25–55 °C, which covers the crystal → nematic (N) phase transition, and the Raman signatures of the phase transition were identified. The wavenumber shifts and linewidth changes of Raman marker bands with varying temperature were determined. The assignments of important vibrational modes of 3CHBT were also made using the experimentally observed Raman and infrared spectra, calculated wavenumbers, and potential energy distribution. The DFT calculations using the B3LYP method employing 6‐31G functional were performed for geometry optimization and vibrational spectra of monomer and dimer of 3CHBT. The analysis of the vibrational bands, especially the variation of their peak position as a function of temperature in two different spectral regions, 1150–1275 cm−1 and 1950–2300 cm−1, is discussed in detail. Both the linewidth and peak position of the ( C H ) in‐plane bending and ν(NCS) modes, which give Raman signatures of the crystal → N phase transition, are discussed in detail. The molecular dynamics of this transition has also been discussed. We propose the co‐existence of two types of dimers, one in parallel and the other in antiparallel arrangement, while going to the nematic phase. The structure of the nematic phase in bulk has also been proposed in terms of these dimers. The red shift of the ν(NCS) band and blue shift of almost all other ring modes show increased intermolecular interaction between the aromatic rings and decreased intermolecular interaction between two  NCS groups in the nematic phase. The removal of arsenate anions from aqueous media, sediments and wasted soils is of environmental significance. The reaction of gypsum with the arsenate anion results in pharmacolite mineral formation, together with related minerals. Raman and infrared (IR) spectroscopy have been used to study the mineral pharmacolite Ca(AsO3OH)· 2H2O. The mineral is characterised by an intense Raman band at 865 cm−1 assigned to the ν1 (AsO3)2− symmetric stretching mode. The equivalent IR band is found at 864 cm−1. The low‐intensity Raman bands in the range from 844 to 886 cm−1 provide evidence for ν3 (AsO3) antisymmetric stretching vibrations. A series of overlapping bands in the 300‐450 cm−1 region are attributed to ν2 and ν4 (AsO3) bending modes. Prominent Raman bands at around 3187 cm−1 are assigned to the OH stretching vibrations of hydrogen‐bonded water molecules and the two sharp bands at 3425 and 3526 cm−1 to the OH stretching vibrations of only weakly hydrogen‐bonded hydroxyls in (AsO3OH)2− units. In this work, the experimental and theoretical vibrational spectra of N1‐methyl‐2‐chloroaniline (C7H8NCl) were studied. FT‐IR and FT‐Raman spectra of the title molecule in the liquid phase were recorded in the region 4000–400 cm?1 and 3500–50 cm?1, respectively. The structural and spectroscopic data of the molecule in the ground state were calculated by using density functional method (B3LYP) with the 6‐311++G(d,p) basis set. The vibrational frequencies were calculated and scaled values were compared with experimental FT‐IR and FT‐Raman spectra. The observed and calculated frequencies are found to be in good agreement. The complete assignments were performed on the basis of the total energy distribution (TED) of the vibrational modes, calculated with scaled quantum mechanics (SQM) method. 13C and 1H NMR chemical shifts results were compared with the experimental values. The optimized geometric parameters (bond lengths and bond angles) were given and are in agreement with the corresponding experimental values of aniline and p‐methyl aniline. Raman spectra of the Cl3CCHO/CCl4 and Cl3CCHO/C6D12 binary systems were recorded as a function of the mole fraction. Features originating from self‐aggregates of chloral (trichloroethanal, trichloroacetaldehyde—TCAA) molecules were detected in different spectral regions. The most pronounced changes were observed in the vicinity of the ν(CO) and ν(C H) stretching vibration bands. Using two‐dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D‐COS), evolving‐factor analysis (EFA) and multivariate curve resolution (MCR), dimer bands were identified, and their positions were determined. The ν(C H) stretching vibration band in dimers was blue‐shifted by nearly 18 cm−1, whereas the ν(CO) dimer band was red‐shifted by more than 5 cm−1. For these bands, the observed shifts were accompanied by an almost twofold change in the bandwidth, from approximately 19 and 6 cm−1 for dilute solutions (x = 0.05) to 36.6 and 11.5 cm−1, respectively, in pure TCAA. The formation of dimers was confirmed by multivariate analysis of the Raman spectra of chloral recorded as a function of temperature. Analogous analysis of dichloroacetyl chloride (DCAC) spectra gave an 8.9 cm−1 blue shift for the ν(C H) vibration band and − 5.5/− 10.1 cm−1 shifts for the ν(CO) stretching vibrations of the two conformers present. To facilitate the interpretation of experimental findings, the optimized geometries and vibrational wavenumbers of the Cl3CCHO/HCl2CCClO molecules and (Cl3CCHO)2/(HCl2CCClO)2 dimers were calculated at the B3LYP/6‐311 + + G(3df,3pd) level.
