In the paper one investigates the dependence of Weyl's solution ,)=c(,)+n()s(,) of the Sturm-Liouville equation y+q()y=2y on the spectral parameter . Under the condition that the potential q is bounded from below and q()exp(c0+c[in1 ¦¦), it is proved for {ie217-01} for any positive values and A. If q()>1 and {ie217-02} for all >0, then in the semiplane >0 the Weyl solution (, ) is obtained from the Weyl solution (,x) is obtained from the Weyl solution eix with zero potential, with the aid of a generalization of B. We develop a method for extending results about ultrafilters into a more general setting. In this paper we shall be mainly concerned with applications to cardinality logics. For example, assumingV=L, Gödel's Axiom of Constructibility, we prove that if > then the logic with the quantifier there exist many is (,)-compact if and only if either is weakly compact or is singular of cofinality<. As a corollary, for every infinite cardinals and , there exists a (,)-compact non-(,)-compact logic if and only if either < orcf<cf or < is weakly compact.Counterexamples are given showing that the above statements may fail, ifV=L is not assumed.However, without special assumptions, analogous results are obtained for the stronger notion of [,]-compactness.  相似文献

We consider a general class of singularly perturbed delay differential systems depending on a singular parameter and another parameter . For =0, the equation defines a mapT which undergoes a generic period doubling at =0. If the bifurcation is supercritical (subcritical), these period two points define a stable period two square wave (unstable period two pulse wave). We give conditions on the vector field such that there is a sectorS in the , plane such that there is a unique periodic orbit if the parameters are inS, the orbit is stable (unstable) if the period doubling bifurcation is supercritical (subcritical) and approaches the square (pulse) wave as 0.Partially supported by NSF and DARPA.  相似文献

A proof of the following conjecture of Jungnickel and Tonchev on quasi-multiple quasi-symmetric designs is given: Let D be a design whose parameter set (v,b,r,k,) equals (v,sv,sk,k, s) for some positive integer s and for some integers v,k, that satisfy (v-1) = k(k-1) (that is, these integers satisfy the parametric feasibility conditions for a symmetric (v,k,)-design). Further assume that D is a quasi-symmetric design, that is D has at most two block intersection numbers. If (k, (s-1)) = 1, then the only way D can be constructed is by taking multiple copies of a symmetric (v,k, )-design.  相似文献

In 2.1 it is established that there is a one-to-one correspondence between (v, k, )-graphs and polarities, with no absolute points, of (v, k, )-designs. This is used to show that the parameters of a (v, k, )-graph are of the form ((s/a)((s + a)2–1), s(s+a), sa) where s and a are positive integers with a dividing s(s2–1) (Theorem 3.4) but strictly less than s(s2–1) (Proposition 4.3). Some consequences of this parametrization are discussed and in particular, it is shown that for fixed 2 there are only finitely many non-isomorphic (v, k, )-graphs. In 4. it is shown that (v, k, )-graphs can also be constructed using polarities, with all points absolute, of certain designs. In 5. isomorphisms and automorphisms of graphs and designs are discussed. Summary A new method is proposed for the inclusion of the critical parameter * of some convex operator equationu=Tu (appearing e.g. in thermal explosion theory). It is based on the fact that for a fixed Newton's method starting with a suitable subsolution is not monotonically if and only if >*. One investigates the minimality of derivative chains, constructed from the root vectors of polynomial pencils of operators, acting in a Hilbert space. One investigates in detail the quadratic pencil of operators. Let D be a (v,k,) difference set over an abelian group G with even n = k - . Assume that t N satisfies the congruences t q i fi (mod exp(G)) for each prime divisor qi of n/2 and some integer fi. In [4] it was shown that t is a multiplier of D provided that n > , (n/2, ) = 1 and (n/2, v) = 1. In this paper we show that the condition n > may be removed. As a corollary we obtain that in the case of n= 2pa when p is a prime, p should be a multiplier of D. This answers an open question mentioned in [2].  相似文献

The object of this paper is the construction of balanced incomplete block designs with k=7. This paper continues the work begun by Hanani, who solved the construction problem for designs with a block size of 7, and with =6, 7, 21 and 42. The construction problem is solved here for designs with > 2 except for v=253, = 4,5 ; also for = 2, the number of unconstructed designs is reduced to 9 (1 nonexistent, 8 unknown).  相似文献

A theorem is proved that every resolvable BIB-design (v,k,) with =k–1 and the parameters v and k such that there exists a set of k–1 pairwise orthogonal Latin squares of order v can be embedded in a resolvable BIB-design ((k+1)v, k, k–1). An analogous theorem is established for the class of arbitrary BIB-designs. We study the regularity of the minimizer u for the functional F (u,f)=|u|2 + |u–f{2 over all maps uH 1(, S 2). We prove that for some suitable functions f every minimizer u is smooth in if 0 and for the same functions f, u has singularities when is large enough.

In this paper we give a complete asymptotic expansion of the Jacobi functions (, ) (t) as + . The method we employed to get the complete expansion follows that of Olver in treating similar problems. By using a Gronwall-Bellman type inequality for an improper integral in which the integrand is an unbounded function and contains a parameter, we get an error bound of the asymptotic approximation which is different from that of Olver's.  相似文献

The basic necessary condition for the existence of a TD(5, ; v)-TD(5, ; u), namely v 4u, is shown to be sufficient for any 1, except when (v, u) = (6, 1) and = 1, and possibly when (v, u) = (10, 1) or (52, 6) and = 1. For the case = 1, 86 new incomplete transversal designs are constructed. The cohomology H* (G/,) of the de Rham complex *(G/) of a compact solvmanifold G/ with deformed differential d = d + , where is a closed 1 -form, is studied. Such cohomologies naturally arise in Morse-Novikov theory. It is shown that, for any completely solvable Lie group G containing a cocompact lattice G, the cohomology H*(G/, ) is isomorphic to the cohomology H*( ) of the tangent Lie algebra of the group G with coefficients in the one-dimensional representation : defined by () = ().
