Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold without conjugate points. We generalize the Tits topology on the ideal boundary of the universal covering space of M. Then we show that if π1(M) is amenable and is compact with respect to the Tits topology, then M is flat. If is any ring or semi-ring (e.g., ) and G is a finite abelian group, two elements a, b of the group (semi-)ring are said to form a factorization of G if ab = rΣ gG g for some . A factorization is called quasiperiodic if there is some element gG of order m > 1 such that either a or b – say b – can be written as a sum b 0 + ... + b m−1 of m elements of such that ab h = g h ab 0 for h = 0, ... , m − 1. Hajós [5] conjectured that all factorizations are quasiperiodic when and r = 1 but Sands [15] found a counterexample for the group . Here we show however that all factorizations of abelian groups are quasiperiodic when and that all factorizations of cyclic groups or of groups of the type are quasiperiodic when . We also give some new examples of non-quasiperiodic factorizations with for the smaller groups and . Received: May 12, 2006. Revised: October 3, 2007.  相似文献

Let p be a prime, G a finite group with p | |G| and F a field of characteristic p. By we denote the F-subspace of the centre of the group ring FG spanned by the p-regular conjugacy class sums. J. Murray proved that is an algebra, if G is a symmetric or alternating group. This can be used for the computation of the block idempotents of FG. We proved that is an algebra if the Sylow-p-subgroups of G are abelian. Recently, Y. Fan and B. Külshammer generalized this result to blocks with abelian defect groups. Here, we show that is an algebra if the Sylow-2-subgroups of G are dihedral. Therefore and are algebras for all primes p and all prime powers q. Furthermore we prove that is an algebra for the simple Suzuki-groups Sz(q), where q is a certain power of 2 and p is an arbitrary prime dividing |Sz(q)|. Received: 18 May 2007  相似文献

In this article we study nondegenerate projective curves of degree d which are not arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay. Note that for a rational normal curve and a point . Our main result is about the relation between the geometric properties of X and the position of P with respect to . We show that the graded Betti numbers of X are uniquely determined by the rank of P with respect to . In particular, X satisfies property N 2,p if and only if . Therefore property N 2,p of X is controlled by and conversely can be read off from the minimal free resolution of X. This result provides a non-linearly normal example for which the converse to Theorem 1.1 in (Eisenbud et al., Compositio Math 141:1460–1478, 2005) holds. Also our result implies that for nondegenerate projective curves of degree d which are not arithmetically Cohen–Macaulay, there are exactly distinct Betti tables.  相似文献

As in Finite Group Modular Representation Theory, let be a commutative complete noetherian ring with an algebraically closed residue field k. Let G be a finite group and let N be a normal subgroup of G. First suppose that V is an indecomposable -module, so that Inf G G/N (V) is an indecomposable G-module. We relate the Green invariants of V as an -module to those of Inf G G/N (V) as an G-module. Secondly, let V and W be indecomposable G-modules. Assume that W is an endo-permutation lattice and that is also an indecomposable G-module. We relate the Green invariants of the G-modules V and . The main purpose of this paper is to introduce several measures determined by a given finite directed graph. To construct σ-algebras for those measures, we consider several algebraic structures induced by G; (i) the free semigroupoid of the shadowed graph (ii) the graph groupoid of G, (iii) the disgram set and (iv) the reduced diagram set . The graph measures determined by (i) is the energy measure measuing how much energy we spent when we have some movements on G. The graph measures determined by (iii) is the diagram measure measuring how long we moved consequently from the starting positions (which are vertices) of some movements on G. The graph measures and determined by (ii) and (iv) are the (graph) groupoid measure and the (quotient-)groupoid measure, respectively. We show that above graph measurings are invariants on shadowed graphs of finite directed graphs. Also, we will consider the reduced diagram measure theory on graphs. In the final chapter, we will show that if two finite directed graphs G 1 and G 2 are graph-isomorphic, then the von Neumann algebras L (μ 1) and L (μ 2) are *-isomorphic, where μ 1 and μ 2 are the same kind of our graph measures of G 1 and G 2, respectively. Let G be a finite group and a formation of finite groups. We say that a subgroup H of G is -supplemented in G if there exists a subgroup T of G such that G = TH and is contained in the -hypercenter of G/H G . In this paper, we use -supplemented subgroups to study the structure of finite groups. A series of previously known results are unified and generalized. Let k be a field of characteristic q, a smooth geometrically connected curve defined over k with function field . Let A/K be a non-constant abelian variety defined over K of dimension d. We assume that q = 0 or >  2d + 1. Let pq be a prime number and a finite geometrically Galois and étale cover defined over k with function field . Let (τ′, B′) be the K′/k-trace of A/K. We give an upper bound for the -corank of the Selmer group Sel p (A × K K′), defined in terms of the p-descent map. As a consequence, we get an upper bound for the -rank of the Lang–Néron group A(K′)/τ′B′(k). In the case of a geometric tower of curves whose Galois group is isomorphic to , we give sufficient conditions for the Lang–Néron group of A to be uniformly bounded along the tower. We consider the elliptic problem Δu  +  u p  =  0, u  >  0 in an exterior domain, under zero Dirichlet and vanishing conditions, where is smooth and bounded in , N ≥ 3, and p is supercritical, namely . We prove that this problem has infinitely many solutions with slow decay at infinity. In addition, a solution with fast decay O(|x|2-N ) exists if p is close enough from above to the critical exponent.  相似文献

Let be an integer, let γ be the standard Gaussian measure on , and let . Given this paper gives a necessary and sufficient condition such that the inequality is true for all Borel sets A 1,...,A m in of strictly positive γ-measure or all convex Borel sets A 1,...,A m in of strictly positive γ-measure, respectively. In particular, the paper exhibits inequalities of the Brunn–Minkowski type for γ which are true for all convex sets but not for all measurable sets.   相似文献

We develop a cyclotomic analogue of the theory of associators. Using a trigonometric version of the universal KZ equations, we prove the formality of a morphism , where B n 1 is a braid group of type B. The formality isomorphism depends algebraically on a series ΨKZ, the “KZ pseudotwist”. We study the scheme of pseudotwists and show that it is a torsor under a group GTM(N, k), mapping to Drinfeld’s group GT(k), and whose Lie algebra is isomorphic to its associated graded (N, k). We prove that Ihara’s subgroup GTK of the Grothendieck–Teichmüller group, defined using distribution relations, in fact coincides with it. We show that the subscheme of pseudotwists satisfying distribution relations is a subtorsor. We study the corresponding analogue (N, k) of (N, k); it is a graded Lie algebra with an action of , and we give a lower bound for the character of its space of generators.   相似文献

Let X 1, ..., X N denote N independent, symmetric Lévy processes on R d . The corresponding additive Lévy process is defined as the following N-parameter random field on R d : Khoshnevisan and Xiao (Ann Probab 30(1):62–100, 2002) have found a necessary and sufficient condition for the zero-set of to be non-trivial with positive probability. They also provide bounds for the Hausdorff dimension of which hold with positive probability in the case that can be non-void. Here we prove that the Hausdorff dimension of is a constant almost surely on the event . Moreover, we derive a formula for the said constant. This portion of our work extends the well known formulas of Horowitz (Israel J Math 6:176–182, 1968) and Hawkes (J Lond Math Soc 8:517–525, 1974) both of which hold for one-parameter Lévy processes. More generally, we prove that for every nonrandom Borel set F in (0,∞) N , the Hausdorff dimension of is a constant almost surely on the event . This constant is computed explicitly in many cases. The classical n-variable Kloosterman sums over the finite field F p give rise to a lisse -sheaf Kl n+1 on , which we call the Kloosterman sheaf. Let L p (G m, F p , Sym k Kl n+1, s) be the L-function of the k-fold symmetric product of Kl n+1. We construct an explicit virtual scheme X of finite type over Spec Z such that the p-Euler factor of the zeta function of X coincides with L p (G m, F p , Sym k Kl n+1, s). We also prove similar results for and . The research of L. Fu is supported by the NSFC (10525107).  相似文献

Let be the classical kernel density estimator based on a kernel K and n independent random vectors X i each distributed according to an absolutely continuous law on . It is shown that the processes , , converge in law in the Banach space , for many interesting classes of functions or sets, some -Donsker, some just -pregaussian. The conditions allow for the classical bandwidths h n that simultaneously ensure optimal rates of convergence of the kernel density estimator in mean integrated squared error, thus showing that, subject to some natural conditions, kernel density estimators are ‘plug-in’ estimators in the sense of Bickel and Ritov (Ann Statist 31:1033–1053, 2003). Some new results on the uniform central limit theorem for smoothed empirical processes, needed in the proofs, are also included.   相似文献

The standard correspondence between the normal subgroups of the group G and some ideals of the group algebra FG is described. There is the problem of what we can say (or even prove) about a two-sided ideal of that does not contain any element of the form 1 − g ≠ 0, gG of the standard basis of the augmentation ideal of . The main part of the argument of [2] yields the insight that, for such an ideal I there exists an expansion such that the ideal J of spanned by I contains an element 1 − h, hH \ G. Using the ideas of [2], we construct -thick groups H such that for every ideal J ≠ (0) of there are elements 1 − h ≠ 0 in J. This construction allows many variations. Examples of simple -thick groups were pointed out in [2]. A natural class of (in general non-simple) -full groups are the normal sections of the groups

In this paper, it is proved a very general well-posedness result for a class of constrained minimization problems of which the following is a particular case: Let X be a Hausdorff topological space and let be two non-constant functions such that, for each , the function has sequentially compact sub-level sets and admits a unique global minimum in X. Then, for each , the restriction of J to has a unique global minimum, say , toward which every minimizing sequence converges. Moreover, the functions and are continuous in .  相似文献
