In this paper, we suggest and analyze a new two-step predictor–corrector type iterative method free from second derivatives for solving nonlinear equations of the type f(x)=0. This new method includes the two-step Newton method as a special case. We prove that the new iterative method is of fourth-order. Several examples are given to illustrate the efficiency of this new method and its comparison with other iterative methods. This method can be considered as a significant improvement of the Newton method and its variant forms.  相似文献

Finding the closest or farthest line segment (line) from a point are fundamental proximity problems. Given a set S of n points in the plane and another point q, we present optimal O(nlogn) time, O(n) space algorithms for finding the closest and farthest line segments (lines) from q among those spanned by the points in S. We further show how to apply our techniques to find the minimum (maximum) area triangle with a vertex at q and the other two vertices in S{q} in optimal O(nlogn) time and O(n) space. Finally, we give an O(nlogn) time, O(n) space algorithm to find the kth closest line from q and show how to find the k closest lines from q in O(nlogn+k) time and O(n+k) space.  相似文献

Adam–Bashforth method and Adam–Moulton method are two known multi-step methods for finding the numerical solution of the initial value problem of ordinary differential equation. Let G be a doubly but not triply transitive group on a set X. We give an algorithm to construct the orbits of G acting on X×X×X by combining those of its stabilizer H of a point of X If the group H is given first, we compute the orbits of its transitive extension G, if it exists. We apply our algorithm to G=PSL(m,q) and Sp(2m,2), m3, successfully. We go forward to compute the transitive extension of G itself. In our construction we use a superscheme defined by the orbits of H on X×X×X and do not use group elements.  相似文献

Given a set S of n points in , and an integer k such that 0k<n, we show that a geometric graph with vertex set S, at most n−1+k edges, maximum degree five, and dilation O(n/(k+1)) can be computed in time O(nlogn). For any k, we also construct planar n-point sets for which any geometric graph with n−1+k edges has dilation Ω(n/(k+1)); a slightly weaker statement holds if the points of S are required to be in convex position.  相似文献

We consider the asymmetric traveling salesperson problem with γ-parameterized triangle inequality for γ[1/2,1). That means, the edge weights fulfill w(u,v)γ(w(u,x)+w(x,v)) for all nodes u,v,x. Chandran and Ram [L.S. Chandran, L.S. Ram, Approximations for ATSP with parametrized triangle inequality, in: Proc. 19th Int. Symp. on Theoret. Aspects of Comput. Sci. (STACS), in: Lecture Notes in Comput. Sci., vol. 2285, Springer, Berlin, 2002, pp. 227–237] gave the first constant factor approximation algorithm with polynomial running time for this problem. They achieve performance ratio γ/(1−γ). We devise an approximation algorithm with performance ratio (1+γ)/(2−γγ3), which is better for γ[0.5437,1), that is, for the particularly interesting large values of γ.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the lower bounds on the maximum genus of graphs. A simple statement of our results in this paper can be expressed in the following form:

Let G be a k-edge-connected graph with minimum degree δ, for each positive integer k(3), there exists a non-decreasing function f(δ) such that the maximum genus γM(G) of G satisfies the relation γM(G)f(δ)β(G), and furthermore that limδ→∞f(δ)=1/2, where β(G)=|E(G)|-|V(G)|+1 is the cycle rank of G.

The result shows that lower bounds of the maximum genus of graphs with any given connectivity become larger and larger as their minimum degree increases, and complements recent results of several authors.  相似文献

An approach for solving Fredholm integral equations of the first kind is proposed for in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS). The interest in this problem is strongly motivated by applications to actual prospecting. In many applications one is puzzled by an ill-posed problem in space C[a,b] or L2[a,b], namely, measurements of the experimental data can result in unbounded errors of solutions of the equation. In this work, the representation of solutions for Fredholm integral equations of the first kind is obtained if there are solutions and the stability of solutions is discussed in RKHS. At the same time, a conclusion is obtained that approximate solutions are also stable with respect to or L2 in RKHS. A numerical experiment shows that the method given in the work is valid.  相似文献

A weighted graph is one in which every edge e is assigned a nonnegative number w(e), called the weight of e. For a vertex v of a weighted graph, dw(v) is the sum of the weights of the edges incident to v. And the weight of a path is the sum of the weights of the edges belonging to it. In this paper, we give a sufficient condition for a weighted graph to have a heavy path which joins two specified vertices. Let G be a 2-connected weighted graph and let x and y be distinct vertices of G. Suppose that dw(u)+dw(v)2d for every pair of non-adjacent vertices u and vV(G) x,y . Then x and y are joined by a path of weight at least d, or they are joined by a Hamilton path. Also, we consider the case when G has some vertices whose weighted degree are not assumed.  相似文献

We study the existence of solutions for the nonlinear elliptic system

A discontinuous Galerkin method with interior penalties is presented for nonlinear Sobolev equations. A semi-discrete and a family of Fully-discrete time approximate scheme are formulated. These schemes can be symmetric or nonsymmetric. Hp-version error estimates are analyzed for these schemes. Just because of a damping term ·(b(u)ut) included in Sobolev equation, which is the distinct character different from parabolic equation, special test functions are chosen to deal with this term. Finally, a priori L(H1) error estimate is derived for the semi-discrete time scheme and similarly, l(H1) and l2(H1) for the Fully-discrete time schemes. These results also indicate that spatial rates in H1 and time truncation errors in L2 are optimal.  相似文献

Given a graph G, a proper labeling f of G is a one-to-one function . The bandwidth sum of a graph G, denoted by Bs(G), is defined by Bs(G)=min∑uvE(G)|f(u)-f(v)|, where the minimum is taken for all proper labelings f of G. In this paper, we give some results for the bandwidth sum problem for the join of k graphs G1,G2,…,Gk, where each Gi is a path, cycle, complete graph, or union of isolated vertices. The independence polynomial, ω(G,x)=∑wkxk, of a graph, G, has coefficients, wk, that enumerate the ways of selecting k vertices from G so that no two selected vertices share an edge. The independence number of G is the largest value of k for which wk≠0. Little is known of less straightforward relationships between graph structure and the properties of ω(G,x), in part because of the difficulty of calculating values of wk for specific graphs. This study presents a new algorithm for these calculations which is both faster than existing ones and easily adaptable to high-level computer languages.  相似文献

The combinatorial tool of generating functions for restricted partitions is used to generalize a quantum physics theorem relating distinct multiplets of different angular momenta in the composite Fermion model of the fractional quantum Hall effect. Specifically, if g(N,M) denotes the number of distinct multiplets of angular momentum and total angular momentum M, we prove that
where the sum is taken over all positive divisors of N and L(k)=kℓ-kN/2+3k/2-N+N/(2k)-1/2. The original Quinn–Wójs theorem results when k=1 and it appears that this generalization will be useful in further investigations of nuclear shells modeling elementary particle interactions when the particles are clustered together.  相似文献

Let P be an x-monotone polygonal path in the plane. For a path Q that approximates P let WA(Q) be the area above P and below Q, and let WB(Q) be the area above Q and below P. Given P and an integer k, we show how to compute a path Q with at most k edges that minimizes WA(Q)+WB(Q). Given P and a cost C, we show how to find a path Q with the smallest possible number of edges such that WA(Q)+WB(Q)C. However, given P, an integer k, and a cost C, it is NP-hard to determine if a path Q with at most k edges exists such that max{WA(Q),WB(Q)}C. We describe an approximation algorithm for this setting. Finally, it is also NP-hard to decide whether a path Q exists such that |WA(Q)−WB(Q)|=0. Nevertheless, in this error measure we provide an algorithm for computing an optimal approximation up to an additive error.  相似文献

Let M1 and M2 be two matroids on the same ground set S. We conjecture that if there do not exist disjoint subsets A1,A2,…,Ak+1 of S, such that ispM1(Ai)≠Ø, and similarly for M2, then S is partitioned into k sets, each independent in both M1 and M2. This is a possible generalization of König's edge-coloring theorem. We prove the conjecture for the case k=2 and for a regular case, in which both matroids have the same rank d, and S consists of k·d elements.
