The hydrogen storage capacity of binary THF-H(2) clathrate hydrate has been determined as a function of formation pressure, THF composition, and time. The amount of hydrogen stored in the stoichiometric hydrate increases with pressure and exhibits asymptotic (Langmuir) behavior to approximately 1.0 wt % H(2). This hydrogen concentration corresponds to one hydrogen molecule occupying each of the small 5(12) cavities and one THF molecule in each large 5(12)6(4) cavity in the hydrate framework. Contrary to previous reports, hydrogen storage was not increased upon decreasing the THF concentration below the stoichiometric 5.6 mol % solution to 0.5 mol %, at constant pressure, even after one week. This provides strong evidence that THF preferentially occupies the large 5(12)6(4) cavity over hydrogen, for the range of experimental conditions tested. The maximum amount of hydrogen stored in this binary hydrate was about 1.0 wt % at moderate pressure (<60 MPa) and is independent of the initial THF concentration over the range of conditions tested.  相似文献

Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations are performed to evaluate the hydrogen-storage capacity of the recently discovered hydrogen hydrates of the sH type, at 274 K and up to 500 MPa. First, the pure H2 hydrate is investigated in order to determine the upper limit of H 2 content in sH hydrates. It is found that the storage capacity of the hypothetical pure H2 hydrate could reach 3.6 wt % at 500 MPa. Depending on pressure, the large cavity of this hydrate can accommodate up to eight H2 molecules, while the small and medium ones are singly occupied even at pressures as high as 500 MPa. Next, the binary H2-methylcyclohexane sH hydrate is examined. In this case, the small and medium cavities are again singly occupied, resulting in a maximum H2 uptake of 1.4 wt %. Finally, the results from simulations on pure H2 and binary hydrates are utilized to investigate the potential of H2 storage in sH hydrates where the promoter molecules occupy the medium instead of the large cavities.  相似文献

Single crystal x-ray crystallography is used to detect guest-host hydrogen bonding in structure II (sII) binary clathrate hydrate of 1-propanol and methane. X-ray structural analysis shows that the 1-propanol oxygen atom is at a distance of 2.749 and 2.788 ? from the closest clathrate hydrate water oxygen atoms from a hexagonal face of the large sII cage. The 1-propanol hydroxyl hydrogen atom is disordered and at distances of 1.956 and 2.035 ? from the closest cage water oxygen atoms. These distances are compatible with guest-water hydrogen bonding. The C-C-C-O torsional angle in 1-propanol in the cage is 91.47° which corresponds to a staggered conformation for the guest. Molecular dynamics studies of this system demonstrated guest-water hydrogen bonding in this hydrate. The molecular dynamics simulations predict most probable distances for the 1-propanol-water oxygen atoms to be 2.725 ?, and the average C-C-C-O torsional angle to be ~59° consistent with a gauche conformation. The individual cage distortions resulting from guest-host hydrogen bonding from the simulations are rather large, but due to the random nature of the hydrogen bonding of the guest with the 24 water molecules making up the hexagonal faces of the large sII cages, these distortions are not observed in the x-ray structure.  相似文献

Guest-host hydrogen bonding in clathrate hydrates occurs when in addition to the hydrophilic moiety which causes the molecule to form hydrates under high pressure-low temperature conditions, the guests contain a hydrophilic, hydrogen bonding functional group. In the presence of carbon dioxide, ethanol clathrate hydrate has been synthesized with 10% of large structure I (sI) cages occupied by ethanol. In this work, we use molecular dynamics simulations to study hydrogen bonding structure and dynamics in this binary sI clathrate hydrate in the temperature range of 100-250 K. We observe that ethanol forms long-lived (>500 ps) proton-donating and accepting hydrogen bonds with cage water molecules from both hexagonal and pentagonal faces of the large cages while maintaining the general cage integrity of the sI clathrate hydrate. The presence of the nondipolar CO(2) molecules stabilizes the hydrate phase, despite the strong and prevalent alcohol-water hydrogen bonding. The distortions of the large cages from the ideal form, the radial distribution functions of the guest-host interactions, and the ethanol guest dynamics are characterized in this study. In previous work through dielectric and NMR relaxation time studies, single crystal x-ray diffraction, and molecular dynamics simulations we have observed guest-water hydrogen bonding in structure II and structure H clathrate hydrates. The present work extends the observation of hydrogen bonding to structure I hydrates.  相似文献

We have determined the time-space average filling of hydrogen molecules in a binary tetrahydrofuran (THF)-d(8) + D(2) sII clathrate hydrate using high resolution neutron diffraction. The filling of hydrogen in the lattice of a THF-d(8) clathrate hydrate occurred upon pressurization. The hydrogen molecules were localized in the small dodecahedral cavities at 20 K, with nuclear density from the hydrogen approximately spherically distributed and centered in the small cavity. With a formation pressure of 70 MPa, molecular hydrogen was found to only singly occupy the sII small cavity. This result helps explain discrepancies about the hydrogen occupancy in the THF binary hydrate system.  相似文献

Gas hydrate is a new technology for energy gas (methane/hydrogen) storage due to its large capacity of gas storage and safe. But industrial application of hydrate storage process was hindered by some problems. For methane, the main problems are low formation rate and storage capacity, which can be solved by strengthening mass and heat transfer, such as adding additives, stirring, bubbling, etc. One kind of additives can change the equilibrium curve to reduce the formation pressure of methane hydrate, and the other kind of additives is surfactant, which can form micelle with water and increase the interface of water-gas. Dry water has the similar effects on the methane hydrate as surfactant. Additionally, stirring, bubbling, and spraying can increase formation rate and storage capacity due to mass transfer strengthened. Inserting internal or external heat exchange also can improve formation rate because of good heat transfer. For hydrogen, the main difficulties are very high pressure for hydrate formed. Tetrahydrofuran (THF), tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) and tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) have been proved to be able to decrease the hydrogen hydrate formation pressure significantly.  相似文献

A new method, a molecular thermodynamic model based on statistical mechanics, is employed to predict the hydrate dissociation conditions for binary gas mixtures with carbon dioxide, hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen, and hydrocarbons in the presence of aqueous solutions. The statistical associating fluid theory (SAFT) equation of state is employed to characterize the vapor and liquid phases and the statistical model of van der Waals and Platteeuw for the hydrate phase. The predictions of the proposed model were found to be in satisfactory to excellent agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

The concept of tuning phenomenon in binary hydrate systems has been suggested to enhance the gas storage capacity through molecular interactions. In this report, the existence of critical guest concentration (CGC) is investigated by means of spectroscopic methods. The existence of the critical guest concentration can act as a limiting factor in the application areas of binary hydrates. Therefore, it should be taken into account before applying this concept to application fields. In addition, further research on this concept using other hydrate systems is required to clarify the present findings.  相似文献

In order to study the thermal properties of new type environment-friendly binary hydrate for cold storage in air-conditioning system, tests have been carried out by DSC comprehensively on the phase-change temperature and fusion heat of TBAB hydrate, THF hydrate, and TBAB–THF hydrate mixture. The results show a good trend that TBAB–THF hydrate has the superiority for more proper phase-change temperature and increased fusion heat. A broader and more developed view is that adding appropriate amount of hydrate with lower phase-change temperature to hydrate with higher one can make the hydrate mixture more suitable for cold storage (especially for 278–281 K); some hydrates with lower phase-change temperature can even make the fusion heat of mixture hydrate increased greatly. Several new environmental working pairs for binary gas hydrates have been listed to help to promote the application.  相似文献

Experiments were carried out by reacting H(2) gas with N(2) hydrate at a temperature of 243 K and a pressure of 15 MPa. The characterizations of the reaction products indicated that multiple H(2) molecules can be loaded into both large and small cages of structure II clathrate hydrates. The realization of multiple H(2) occupancy of hydrate cages under moderate conditions not only brings new insights into hydrogen clathrates but also refreshes the perspective of clathrate hydrates as hydrogen storage media.  相似文献

Extensive equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to investigate thermal conduction mechanisms via the Green-Kubo approach for (type II) hydrogen hydrate, at 0.05 kbar and between 30 and 250 K, for both lightly filled H(2) hydrates (1s4l) and for more densely filled H(2) systems (2s4l), in which four H(2) molecules are present in the large cavities, with respective single- and double-occupation of the small cages. The TIP4P water model was used in conjunction with a fully atomistic hydrogen potential along with long-range Ewald electrostatics. It was found that substantially less damping in guest-host energy transfer is present in hydrogen hydrate as is observed in common type I clathrates (e.g., methane hydrate), but more akin in to previous results for type II and H methane hydrate polymorphs. This gives rise to larger thermal conductivities relative to common type I hydrates, and also larger than type II and H methane hydrate polymorphs, and a more crystal-like temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity.  相似文献

Molecular dynamics simulations of the pure structure II tetrahydrofuran clathrate hydrate and binary structure II tetrahydrofuran clathrate hydrate with CO(2), CH(4), H(2)S, and Xe small cage guests are performed to study the effect of the shape, size, and intermolecular forces of the small cages guests on the structure and dynamics of the hydrate. The simulations show that the number and nature of the guest in the small cage affects the probability of hydrogen bonding of the tetrahydrofuran guest with the large cage water molecules. The effect on hydrogen bonding of tetrahydrofuran occurs despite the fact that the guests in the small cage do not themselves form hydrogen bonds with water. These results indicate that nearest neighbour guest-guest interactions (mediated through the water lattice framework) can affect the clathrate structure and stability. The implications of these subtle small guest effects on clathrate hydrate stability are discussed.  相似文献

A hydrogen molecule entrapped in the cages of icy hydrogen hydrate is confined in host water framework and thus behaves unlike pure solid or liquid hydrogen. The gamma-irradiated hydrogen radicals are for the first time observed from ESR and solid-state MAS 1H NMR spectra to stably exist in the icy hydrate channels without any collapse of the host framework, confirming the chemical shift consistency of ionized hydrogen derivatives. We discuss the confined icy hydrate channels, which can act as potential storage sites for simultaneously imprisoning both molecular and ionized hydrogen and further as icy nanoreactors.  相似文献

In this study, we investigate the crystal structures and phase equilibria of butanols+CH4+H2O systems to reveal the hydroxy group positioning and its effects on hydrate stability. Four clathrate hydrates formed by structural butanol isomers are identified with powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD). In addition, Raman spectroscopy is used to analyze the guest distributions and inclusion behaviors of large alcohol molecules in these hydrate systems. The existence of a free OH indicates that guest molecules can be captured in the large cages of structure II hydrates without any hydrogen‐bonding interactions between the hydroxy group of the guests and the water‐host framework. However, Raman spectra of the binary (1‐butanol+CH4) hydrate do not show the free OH signal, indicating that there could be possible hydrogen‐bonding interactions between the guests and hosts. We also measure the four‐phase equilibrium conditions of the butanols+CH4+H2O systems.  相似文献

Monte Carlo simulations were performed modeling hydrogen sorption in a recently synthesized metal-organic framework material (MOF) that exhibits large molecular hydrogen uptake capacity. The MOF is remarkable because at 78 K and 1.0 atm it sorbs hydrogen at a density near that of liquid hydrogen (at 20 K and 1.0 atm) when considering H2 density in the pores. Unlike most other MOFs that have been investigated for hydrogen storage, it has a highly ionic framework and many relatively small channels. The simulations demonstrate that it is both of these physical characteristics that lead to relatively strong hydrogen interactions in the MOF and ultimately large hydrogen uptake. Microscopically, hydrogen interacts with the MOF via three principle attractive potential energy contributions: Van der Waals, charge-quadrupole, and induction. Previous simulations of hydrogen storage in MOFs and other materials have not focused on the role of polarization effects, but they are demonstrated here to be the dominant contribution to hydrogen physisorption. Indeed, polarization interactions in the MOF lead to two distinct populations of dipolar hydrogen that are identified from the simulations that should be experimentally discernible using, for example, Raman spectroscopy. Since polarization interactions are significantly enhanced by the presence of a charged framework with narrow pores, MOFs are excellent hydrogen storage candidates.  相似文献

In this experimental phase equilibrium study, we show for the first time that it is possible to stabilize structure sH of hydrogen clathrate hydrate with the help of some selected promoters. It was established that the formation pressures of these systems are significantly higher than that of structure sII of hydrogen clathrate hydrate when tetrahydrofuran (THF) is used as a promoter. Although no experimental evidence is available yet, it is estimated that the hydrogen storage capacity of structure sH can be as high as 1.4 wt % of H2, which is about 40% higher compared to the hydrogen storage capacity in structure sII.  相似文献

To investigate the molecular interaction between guest species inside of the small and large cages of methane + propane mixed gas hydrates, thermal stabilities of the methyl radical (possibly induced in small cages) and the normal propyl and isopropyl radicals (induced in large cages) were investigated by means of electron spin resonance measurements. The increase of the total amount of the normal propyl and isopropyl radicals reveals that the methyl radical in the small cage withdraws one hydrogen atom from the propane molecule enclathrated in the adjacent large cage of the structure-II hydrate. A guest species in a hydrate cage has the ability to interact closely with the other one in the adjacent cages. The clathrate hydrate may be utilized as a possible nanoscale reaction field.  相似文献

Experimentally determined equilibrium phase relations are reported for the system H2-THF-H2O as a function of aqueous tetrahydrofuran (THF) concentration from 260 to 290 K at pressures up to 45 MPa. Data are consistent with the formation of cubic structure-II (CS-II) binary H2-THF clathrate hydrates with a stoichiometric THF-to-water ratio of 1:17, which can incorporate modest volumes of molecular hydrogen at elevated pressures. Direct compositional analyses of the clathrate phase, at both low (0.20 mol %) and stoichiometric (5.56 mol %) initial THF aqueous concentrations, are consistent with observed phase behavior, suggesting full occupancy of large hexakaidecahedral (51264) clathrate cavities by THF, coupled with largely complete (80-90%) filling of small dodecahedral (512) cages by single H2 molecules at pressures of >30 MPa, giving a clathrate formula of (H2) < or =2.THF.17H2O. Results should help to resolve the current controversy over binary H2-THF hydrate hydrogen contents; data confirm recent reports that suggest a maximum of approximately 1 mass % H2, this contradicting values of up to 4 mass % previously claimed for comparable conditions.  相似文献
