The manipulation of interfacial properties has broad implications for the development of high‐performance coatings. Metal–phenolic networks (MPNs) are an emerging class of responsive, adherent materials. Herein, host–guest chemistry is integrated with MPNs to modulate their surface chemistry and interfacial properties. Macrocyclic cyclodextrins (host) are conjugated to catechol or galloyl groups and subsequently used as components for the assembly of functional MPNs. The assembled cyclodextrin‐based MPNs are highly permeable (even to high molecular weight polymers: 250–500 kDa), yet they specifically and noncovalently interact with various functional guests (including small molecules, polymers, and carbon nanomaterials), allowing for modular and reversible control over interfacial properties. Specifically, by using either hydrophobic or hydrophilic guest molecules, the wettability of the MPNs can be readily tuned between superrepellency (>150°) and superwetting (ca. 0°).  相似文献

Coordination assembly offers a versatile means to developing advanced materials for various applications. However, current strategies for assembling metal-organic networks into nanoparticles (NPs) often face challenges such as the use of toxic organic solvents, cytotoxicity because of synthetic organic ligands, and complex synthesis procedures. Herein, we directly assemble metal-organic networks into NPs using metal ions and polyphenols (i.e., metal-phenolic networks (MPNs)) in aqueous solutions without templating or seeding agents. We demonstrate the role of buffers (e.g., phosphate buffer) in governing NP formation and the engineering of the NP physicochemical properties (e.g., tunable sizes from 50 to 270 nm) by altering the assembly conditions. A library of MPN NPs is prepared using natural polyphenols and various metal ions. Diverse functional cargos, including anticancer drugs and proteins with different molecular weights and isoelectric points, are readily loaded within the NPs for various applications (e.g., biocatalysis, therapeutic delivery) by direct mixing, without surface modification, owing to the strong affinity of polyphenols to various guest molecules. This study provides insights into the assembly mechanism of metal-organic complexes into NPs and offers a simple strategy to engineer nanosized materials with desired properties for diverse biotechnological applications.  相似文献

Supramolecular vesicles (SMVs) self-assembled from the supra-amphiphiles, consisting of two scaffolds linked together through noncovalent interactions, can realize stimuli-responsive controlled release of encapsulated drugs for enhanced therapeutic efficacy and minimized side effect of drugs. Pillararenes (PAs), an emerging kind of macrocyclic hosts in 2008, are easy to modify with a variety of functionalities. SMVs from PAs and specific guests mainly based on the host–guest interactions have attracted increasing attention because of their drug delivery and controlled drug release. A great progress in the construction and stimuli-responsive drug delivery of the PA-based SMVs has been made since the first work was reported in 2012. This review summarizes the major achievements of the PA-based SMVs for stimuli-responsive drug delivery over the past 5 years, including the microstructures of SMVs, multiple stimuli-responsive SMVs, prodrug SMVs from prodrug PAs and guests, bola-type SMVs, multifunctional SMVs, glucose-responsive SMVs for insulin delivery, novel SMVs from responsive PAs, thermo-responsive SMVs, and ternary SMVs, for chemotherapy, photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, and other biological applications. The future challenges and research directions of PA-based SMVs are also outlined from the points of views of the fundamental research, biological applications, and clinical applications of PA-based SMVs.  相似文献

Graphene is a two-dimensional sp2 hybridized carbon material that has attracted tremendous attention for its stimuli-responsive applications, owing to its high surface area and excellent electrical, optical, thermal, and mechanical properties. The physicochemical properties of graphene can be tuned by surface functionalization. The biomedical field pays special attention to stimuli-responsive materials due to their responsive abilities under different conditions. Stimuli-responsive materials exhibit great potential in changing their behavior upon exposure to external or internal factors, such as pH, light, electric field, magnetic field, and temperature. Graphene-based materials, particularly graphene oxide (GO), have been widely used in stimuli-responsive applications due to their superior biocompatibility compared to other forms of graphene. GO has been commonly utilized in tissue engineering, bioimaging, biosensing, cancer therapy, and drug delivery. GO-based stimuli-responsive platforms for wound healing applications have not yet been fully explored. This review describes the effects of different stimuli-responsive factors, such as pH, light, temperature, and magnetic and electric fields on GO-based materials and their applications. The wound healing applications of GO-based materials is extensively discussed with cancer therapy and drug delivery.  相似文献

In a decade, many porous coordination polymers have been synthesized, providing a variety of properties ranging from storage, separation and exchange of guests in their cavities, magnetism, conductivity and catalysis by their frameworks. Recent advent of flexible porous coordination polymers, which exhibit elastic guest accommodation in contrast to rigid three-dimensional (3-D) frameworks of conventional porous materials, have acquired a position as a new class of porous materials. Such flexible porous properties induce highly selective guest accommodation and magnetic modulation, which could now be a unique class of practical materials. In this review, we introduce recent flexible porous coordination polymers (3-17) and their functional properties, categorizing with the four types of pores with framework deformation.  相似文献

The design of new coordination polymers is nowadays a challenging research topic that attracts increasing interest due to the unique structural and functional properties of such metal-organic materials. In contrast to the recognized use of some N-donor ligands for the construction of coordination polymers, the application of hexamethylenetetramine (hmt) as a simple, commercially available, water-soluble and highly versatile cagelike building block has so far been explored to a lesser extent, although a considerable number of hmt-driven metal-organic networks have been reported in the last few years. Given the high potential of hmt for future developments of this research field, the present review summarizes the main structural and topological types of coordination polymers bearing hmt. These compounds feature a high diversity of topologies that include linear, zigzag, double, triple and quadruple 1D chains, rectangular grids, flat and undulating 2D layers, as well as layer-pillared, octahedral, zeolite-like, honeycomb-like and other complex 3D nets, in which hmt acts as a linker or spacer, pillar or connector, stabilizer and/or supporting ligand. The most common synthetic strategies are reviewed, showing that a diversity of metal-organic networks can be generated by facile self-assembly routes in aqueous medium and using rather simple chemicals. The main types of auxiliary ligands necessary for the construction of hmt-driven coordination networks are also identified. The additional structural features such as the formation of supramolecular networks and water clusters are described, and the selected properties and potential applications of hmt-containing coordination polymers as porous, magnetic or photoluminescent materials are highlighted.  相似文献

DNA nanotechnology relies on the structural and functional information encoded in nucleic acids. Specifically, the sequence-guided reconfiguration of nucleic acids by auxiliary triggers provides a means to develop DNA switches, machines and stimuli-responsive materials. The present Review addresses recent advances in the construction and applications of dynamic reconfigurable DNA nanostructures, networks and materials. Dynamic transformations proceeding within engineered origami frames or between origami tiles, and the triggered dynamic reconfiguration of scaled supramolecular origami structures are addressed. The use of origami frameworks to assemble dynamic chiroplasmonic optical devices and to operate switchable chemical processes are discussed. Also, the dynamic operation of DNA networks is addressed, and the design of “smart” stimuli-responsive all-DNA materials and their applications are introduced. Future perspectives and applications of dynamic reconfigurable DNA nanostructures are presented.  相似文献

Stimuli-responsive star polymers gain more and more interest over the last decades due to their unique properties compared to their linear counterparts. The branched structure for instance has influence on the responsive behavior of these polymers. This review offers an overview of stimuli-responsive star polymers generated by different polymerization techniques, e.g. anionic and controlled radical polymerization (CRP). Beside conventional branched homopolymers different other types like block copolymers, miktoarm star copolymers, core crosslinked star polymers (CCS) and comb polymers are also presented. Furthermore their responsive behavior in solution or immobilized on a substrate, and their applications are outlined. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Water-soluble and thermoresponsive macrocycles with stable inclusion toward guests are highly valuable to construct stimuli-responsive supramolecular materials for versatile applications. Here, we develop such macrocycles – ureido-substituted cyclodextrins (CDs) which exhibit unprecedented upper critical solution temperature (UCST) behavior in aqueous media. These novel CD derivatives showed good solubility in water at elevated temperature, but collapsed from water to form large coacervates upon cooling to low temperature. Their cloud points are greatly dependent on concentration and can be mediated through oxidation and chelation with silver ions. Significantly, the amphiphilicity of these CD derivatives is supportive to host-guest binding, which affords them inclusion abilities to guest dyes. The inclusion complexation remained nearly intact during thermally induced phase transitions, which is in contrast to the switchable inclusion behavior of lower critical solution temperature (LCST)-type CDs. Moreover, ureido-substituted CDs were exploited to co-encapsulate a pair of guest dyes whose fluorescence resonance energy transfer process can be switched by the UCST phase transition. We therefore believe these novel thermoresponsive CDs may form a new strategy for developing smart macrocycles and allow for exploring smart supramolecular materials.  相似文献

Design and synthesis of biodegradable stimuli-responsive polypeptides are important areas considering their promising applications in biomedical fields. This article summarizes the most recent progresses in the development of stimuli-responsive polypeptide materials prepared via ring-opening polymerization of α-amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides. We discuss the design, synthesis and structure-property correlation of emerging materials including thermo-responsive, redox-responsive, photo-responsive and biomolecule responsive polypeptides. Considering the unique structural features of amino acids, we try to emphasize that the thermo-responsive properties not only depend on the amino acid structure but also rely on the secondary structures of polypeptides. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Developing novel emissive supramolecular assemblies with elegant architectures and tunable performance remains highly desirable yet challenging. Herein, we report the design and synthesis of several 9,10-bis(diphenylmethylene)-9,10-dihydroanthracene-based metal-organic assembles with aggregation-induced emission characteristics. Such assemblies feature intriguing thermochromic and mechanochromic properties, i.e., distinguishable fluorescence responses in terms of emission wavelength and intensity under variable temperatures and pressures. Moreover, these assemblies can serve as excellent fluorescent sensors for the detection of polysaccharide molecules. Due to the differentiated charge type and density, the assembles display distinct sensing mechanisms toward different polysaccharide molecules. This study provides novel perspectives for the synthesis of butterfly-like platinum(II) supramolecular coordination complexes with multistimuli-responsiveness for polysaccharide sensing, which will facilitate the development of stimuli-responsive materials  相似文献

Metal-organic coordination interactions are prime candidates for the formation of self-assembled, nanometer-scale periodic networks with room-temperature structural stability. We present X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements of such networks at the Cu(100) surface which provide clear evidence for genuine metal-organic coordination. This is evident as binding energy shifts in the O 1s and Fe 3p photoelectron peaks, corresponding to O and Fe atoms involved in the coordination. Our results provide the first clear evidence for charge-transfer coordination in metal-organic networks at surfaces and demonstrate a well-defined oxidation state for the coordinated Fe ions.  相似文献

Over the last two decades the layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly technique has become a highly versatile platform for the synthesis of nanoengineered thin films and particles. The widespread need for highly functional and responsive materials for applications in biomedicine-such as drug and gene delivery-has recently led to considerable efforts in the assembly of LbL materials, particularly films that can be subsequently stabilised and functionalised through a range of chemistries. In this tutorial review, recent developments in hydrogen-bonded LbL-assembled materials will be discussed, focusing on the design of materials with enhanced stimuli-responsive characteristics. Emphasis will be given to materials engineered for biomedical applications, specifically films/capsules that afford controlled loading and release of therapeutic cargo for application in vitro and in vivo.  相似文献

Polymers are crucial constituents of modern electronic devices. They can be used in their pristine, composite or nanocomposite forms for several domestic and industrial applications with innumerable unique possibilities. Polymer nanocomposites have gained wide theoretical interest and numerous practical applications in diverse fields of science and technology as they bestow the materials not only with virtuous processability but also with exceptional functionalities. It is evidenced that the electrical conductance of polymer nanocomposite is governed by the conductive filler networks within the polymer matrix. Hence, insignificant variation in the conductive networks can result in noteworthy variations in the output electric signal of polymer nanocomposite. Exploiting this stimuli-responsive performance of conductive networks to the physical parameters, polymer nanocomposites can be harnessed to fabricate novel sensitive sensors to detect vital physical parameters viz.strain/stress, pressure, temperature, solvent or vapor. Technical and phenomenological studies on polymer nanocomposites are still enduring.Advanced explanations are being sought but the mechanisms governing the formation of several polymer nanocomposites are still topics of debate in the material science community. Their in-depth investigation requires copious scientific work. This review analytically sketches the synthesis, microstructures, physiochemical properties and the underlying mechanisms for stimuli-responsiveness to the physical parameters of the polymer nanocomposites as well as their applications in various sensitive sensors and detectors. Thus, it became evocative for this review to focus on their processing methodologies, physiochemical physiognomies, classification and probable potentials of polymer nanocomposites. This review primarily presents the current literature survey on polymer composites and the gap areas in the study encourages the objective of the present review article. Finally, the status, perspectives and the advantages of specific polymer nanocomposites at present are summarized. The attention of this review is drawn to the present trends, challenges and future scope in this field of study. Finally, the vital concern and future challenge in utilizing the stimulus responsive behavior of polymer nanocomposites to design versatile sensors for real time applications are elaborately discussed.  相似文献

The exploitation of specific guests which can respond to external stimuli is the main approach for the construction of stimuli-responsive supramolecular polymers (SPs) based on host–guest interactions. Most functional guests, however, fail to manifest stimuli-responses. Herein, a hypoxia-responsive dimeric azocalixarene (D-SAC4A) with outstanding hosting properties was used as the macrocyclic building block for the preparation of host stimuli-responsive SPs. Since azocalixarenes can also be compatible with stimuli-responsive guests, an antitumor drug, camptothecin (CPT), was chosen and linked via a disulfide-containing linker to afford a glutathione (GSH)-responsive ditropic guest (D-CPT). A unique dual-responsive SP was obtained by 1 : 1 mixing of D-SAC4A and D-CPT in water, which further assembled into SP nanoparticles (DSPNs). DSPNs displayed outstanding stability against dilution and biological interferants, as well as precise CPT-release under GSH and hypoxia conditions. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated the good biosafety and tumor-suppressive effects of DSPNs.  相似文献

Molecules with multiple sites of hydrogen bonding attached to suitable cores tend to crystallize as open networks. The resulting crystals can have the following unusual properties: They can include significant amounts of guest molecules; the guests are typically located in channels and can be exchanged without loss of crystallinity; and the geometry of the networks can change in response to new guests. We have found that DFT calculations can provide accurate simulations of the unusual structure and properties of such materials, represented by crystals of prototypic tetrapyridinone 1. These calculations have yielded three key insights that cannot be obtained directly from experiments. (1) The hypothetical porous network obtained by removing guests from crystals of compound 1 is highly flexible, and its deformations are inherently anisotropic, leading to lengthening or shortening of the channels along the c axis and no significant changes along the a and b axes. (2) Quantitative analysis of the total cohesive energy has revealed that hydrogen bonding within the network makes a dominant contribution, along with interactions of guests with the network. (3) Differences in the overall stability of crystals of compound 1 as the guests are varied do not arise primarily from significant changes in the cohesive energy of the network itself; instead, differences in guest-guest interactions play a key role, resulting from the nature of the guests and constraints imposed by the surrounding network. These insights, together with the results of ab initio molecular dynamics, help explain how hydrogen-bonded networks can be robust yet permit molecular movement that underlies the exchange of guests and adaptive porosity. These insights promise to be of general value to scientists studying ordered molecular materials in which strong directional interactions are prominent.  相似文献
