Ethylene (E), propylene (P), and 1‐pentene (A) terpolymers differing in monomer composition ratio were produced, using the metallocenes rac‐ethylene bis(indenyl) zirconium dichloride/methylaluminoxane (rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO), isopropyl bis(cyclopentadienyl)fluorenyl zirconium dichloride/methylaluminoxane (Me2C(Cp)(Flu)ZrCl2/MAO, and bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride, supported on silica impregnated with MAO (Cp2ZrCl2/MAO/SiO2/MAO) as catalytic systems. The catalytic activities at 25 °C and normal pressure were compared. The best result was obtained with the first catalyst. A detailed study of 13C NMR chemical shifts, triad sequences distributions, monomer‐average sequence lengths, and reactivity ratios for the terpolymers is presented. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Many studies have been reported on the 13C NMR characterization of ethylene–α‐olefin copolymers, but only a few have been reported on terpolymers. The incorporation of an α‐olefin into the polyethylene chain changes the structure and, consequently, the properties of the polymer obtained. Looking for new products, we obtained a series of ethylene–propylene–1‐decene terpolymers with the metallocenic system rac‐ethylene bisindenyl zirconium dichloride/methylaluminoxane. We performed a complete 13C NMR characterization of these terpolymers qualitatively and quantitatively. Here we present a detailed study of the 13C NMR chemical shifts, triad sequence distributions, monomer average sequence lengths, and reactivity ratios for these terpolymers. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low and medium molecular weight copolymers constituted by glycolide and p‐dioxanone units have been synthesized by a ring‐opening polymerization. The p‐dioxanone monomer was obtained from (2‐hydroxyethoxy)acetate or by thermal depolymerization of poly(p‐dioxanone). 1H and 13C NMR spectra were highly sensitive to the chemical sequences, which were effectively assigned by considering the data from samples with different compositions, and the acquisition of heteronuclear 1H and 13C NMR‐correlated spectra. End groups were also identified, allowing methylene protons of sequences involving up to two glycolide units to be distinguished. These data seem basic to analyze degradation products or the influence of thermal treatments in chain microstructure. Glycolide/p‐dioxanone copolymers are an interesting system because changes on chemical sequences can easily occur due to a depolymerization reaction that eliminates p‐dioxanone residues. Furthermore, depending on the polymerization conditions, the occurrence of transesterification reactions may be highly significant. These reactions have a great impact in properties such as the melting temperature and can be easily quantified by NMR spectroscopy because of the occurrence of a new chemical sequence. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone/methyl acrylate (V/M) copolymers were prepared by free‐radical bulk polymerization using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. The copolymer composition of these copolymers was calculated from 1H NMR spectra. The radical reactivity ratios for N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (V) and methyl acrylate (M) were rV = 0.09, rM = 0.44. These reactivity ratios for the copolymerization of V and M were determined using the Kelen–Tudos and nonlinear least‐squares error‐in‐variable methods. The 13C{1H} and 1H NMR spectra of these copolymers overlapped and were complex. The complete spectral assignment of the 13C and 1H NMR spectra were done with distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer and two dimensional 13C‐1H heteronuclear single quantum correlation spectroscopic experiments. The two‐dimensional 1H‐1H homonuclear total correlation spectroscopic NMR spectrum showed the various bond interactions, thus inferring the possible structure of the copolymers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New functional monomer methacryloyl isocyanate containing 4‐chloro‐1‐phenol (CPHMAI) was prepared on reaction of methacryloyl isocyanate (MAI) with 4‐chloro‐1‐phenol (CPH) at low temperature and was characterized with IR, 1H, and 13C‐NMR spectra. Radical polymerization of CPHMAI was studied in terms of the rate of polymerization, solvent effect, copolymerization, and thermal properties. The rate of polymerization of CPHMAI has been found to be smaller than that of styrene under the same conditions. Polar solvents such as dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and N,N‐dimethyl formamide (DMF) were found to slow the polymerization. Copolymerization of CPHMAI (M1) with styrene (M2) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) was studied at 60°C. The monomer reactivity ratio was calculated to be r1 = 0.49 and r2 = 0.66 according to the method of Fineman—Ross. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 469–473, 2000  相似文献

Three different characterization methods—13C NMR spectroscopy, a terminal terpolymerization model, and a probability analysis based on the Poisson distribution—were used to determine the microstructure of random terpolymers. The methods were used to determine the amino acid sequence distribution of random terpolymers prepared from the polymerization of N‐carboxyanhydrides that contained L ‐leucine, β‐benzyl‐L ‐aspartate, and L ‐valine. Poly(L ‐leucine‐L ‐aspartic acid‐L ‐valine) [poly(LDV)] was designed as a target specific substrate for the α4β1 integrin that recognizes the tripeptide sequence leucine‐aspartic acid‐valine (LDV). The presence of the tripeptide sequence LDV within the polymer was determined to be eight LDV triad sequences on average in terpolymers of approximately 100 kDa. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Glycolide (GL) and ?‐caprolactone (CL) were copolymerized in bulk at relatively high temperatures using stannous octoate as a catalyst. To investigate the relationship among microstructure, thermal properties, and crystallinity, three series of copolymers prepared at various reaction temperatures, times, and comonomer feed ratios were prepared and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, DSC, and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). The 600‐MHz 1H NMR spectra provided information about not only the copolymer compositions but also about the chain microstructure. The reactivity ratios (rG and rC) were calculated from the monomer sequences and were 6.84 and 0.13, respectively. In terms of overall feed compositions, the sequence lengths of the glycolyl units calculated from the reactivity ratios exceeded those measured from the polymeric products. Mechanistic considerations based on reactivity ratios, monomer consumption data, and average sequence lengths are discussed. The unusual phase diagram of GL/CL copolymers implies that the copolymer melting temperature does not depend on its composition alone but rather on the nature of the sequence distribution. The DSC and WAXD measurements show a close relationship between polymer crystallinity and the nature of the polymer sequence. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Terpolymers of acrylonitrile (A), methyl methacrylate (B), and methyl acrylate (M) were synthesized under optimized atom transfer radical polymerization conditions using 2‐bromopropionitrile as an initiator and CuBr/dinonyl bipyridine as a catalyst. Variation of the feed composition led to terpolymers with different compositions. Composition of synthesized terpolymers were calculated from quantitative 13C{1H} NMR spectra. Number average molecular weight and polydispersity index were determined by gel permeation chromatography. The overlapping and broad signals of the terpolymers were assigned completely to various compositional and configurational sequences by correlation of one‐dimensional 1H, 13C{1H}, and distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer and two‐dimensional heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC) and total correlation spectroscopy (TOCSY). 2D HSQC NMR study shows one to one correlation between carbon and proton signals, while 2D TOCSY spectra were used to confirm 1, 2 bond geminal couplings between nonequivalent protons of same methylene group. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The controlled synthesis and characterization of a range of stimuli responsive cationic terpolymers containing varying amounts of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), 3‐(methylacryloylamino)propyl trimethylammonium chloride (MAPTAC), and poly(ethylene glycol)monomethyl methacrylate (PEGMA) is presented. The terpolymers were synthesized using reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Compositions of the terpolymers determined using 1H NMR were in close agreement to the theoretical values determined from the monomer feed ratios. GPC‐MALLS was used to analyze the molecular weight characteristics of the polymers, which were found to have low polydispersities (Mw/Mn 1.1–1.4). The phase transitions were studied as a function of PEGMA and NIPAM content using temperature controlled 1H NMR and turbidity measurements (UV‐Vis). The relationship between thermal stability and the comonomer ratio of the polymers was measured using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Protein interaction studies were performed to determine the suitability of the polymers for biological applications. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A systematic study of the influence of the α‐olefin size, the catalyst stereospecificity and the reaction temperature was done on the catalytic activity and tacticity of poly‐α‐olefins from 1‐hexene to 1‐octadecene. The metallocenes used were rac‐Et[Ind2]ZrCl2 ( 1 ) and Me2C[Cp(9‐Flu)]ZrCl2 ( 2 ) to obtain isotactic and syndiotactic polyolefins. Some catalysts giving atactic polymers were also used in order to study all the possible 13C NMR pentades. Catalytic activities increased and isotacticity and syndiotacticity decreased with temperature, but no real trend was found with the α‐olefin size. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethylene/styrene copolymerizations using Cp′TiCl2(O‐2,6‐iPr2C6H3) [Cp′ = Cp* (C5Me5, 1 ), 1,2,4‐Me3C5H2 ( 2 ), tert‐BuC5H4 ( 3 )]‐MAO catalyst systems were explored under various conditions. Complexes 2 and 3 exhibited both high catalytic activities (activity: 504–6810 kg‐polymer/mol‐Ti h) and efficient styrene incorporations at 25, 40°C (ethylene 6 atm), affording relatively high molecular weight poly (ethylene‐co‐styrene)s with unimodal molecular weight distributions as well as with uniform styrene distributions (Mw = 6.12–13.6 × 104, Mw/Mn = 1.50–1.71, styrene 31.7–51.9 mol %). By‐productions of syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS) were observed, when the copolymerizations by 1 – 3 ‐MAO catalyst systems were performed at 55, 70 °C (ethylene 6 atm, SPS 9.0–68.9 wt %); the ratios of the copolymer/SPS were affected by the polymerization temperature, the [styrene]/[ethylene] feed molar ratios in the reaction mixture, and by both the cyclopentadienyl fragment (Cp′) and anionic ancillary donor ligand (L) in Cp′TiCl2(L) (L = Cl, O‐2,6‐iPr2C6H3 or N=CtBu2) employed. Co‐presence of the catalytically‐active species for both the copolymerization and the homopolymerization was thus suggested even in the presence of ethylene; the ratios were influenced by various factors (catalyst precursors, temperature, styrene/ethylene feed molar ratio, etc.). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The monomer 2‐methyl‐3‐oxo‐5‐phenyl‐4‐pentenonitrile (MOP) was prepared by reaction of ethyl cinnamate and propionitrile in alkaline mixture. This monomer exhibits three possible tautomeric forms. The tautomeric equilibria of MOP and its copolymers with styrene in different solvents were analyzed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The bulk and solution radical copolymerization initiated with azobisisobutyronitrile was carried out at 60 °C. The products were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HSQC NMR, HMBC NMR, and FTIR spectroscopies. The weight‐average molecular weight and polydispersity index were analyzed with size exclusion chromatography. The monomer reactivity ratios were obtained with the Fineman‐Ross method, obtaining a value of r1r2 = 0.286. MOP copolymer composition as well as the nature of the solvent significantly affected the tautomeric equilibrium. Regression analysis of the copolymer composition with solvatochromic parameters showed a good linear correlation, as quantitatively expressed by means of the linear solvation energy relationship using the empirical set of Kamlet‐Taft solvent parameters. This behavior could be attributed to polymer–polymer or polymer‐solvent interactions prevalent in solvents of different polarity, which are responsible for changes in macromolecular chain conformations, as confirmed by FTIR and viscometric studies. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of the copolymerization temperature and amount of comonomer in the copolymerization of ethylene with 1,3‐cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene, and 4‐vinyl‐1‐cyclohexene and the rac‐Et[Ind]2ZrCl2–methylaluminoxane metallocene system was studied. The amount of comonomer present in the reaction media influenced the catalytic activity. Dicyclopentadiene was the most reactive comonomer among the cyclic dienes studied. In general, copolymers synthesized at 60 °C showed higher catalytic activities. Ethylene–dicyclopentadiene copolymers with high comonomer contents (>9%) did not show melting temperatures. 1,3‐Cyclopentadiene dimerized into dicyclopentadiene during the copolymerization, giving a terpolymer of ethylene, cyclopentadiene, and dicyclopentadiene. A complete characterization of the products was carried out with 1H NMR, 13C NMR, heteronuclear chemical shift correlation, differential scanning calorimetry, and gel permeation chromatography. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Half titanocenes (CpCH2CH2O)TiCl2 (1), (CpCH2CH2OCH3)TiCl3 (2), and CpTiCl3 (3), activated by methylaluminoxane (MAO) were tested in copolymerization of ethylene with internal olefins such as cyclopentene. All the catalysts were able to give incorporation of cyclopentene in polyethylene matrix. 13C NMR analysis of obtained copolymers showed that the catalytic systems have low regiospecificity. In fact, in ethylene–cyclopentene copolymers, cyclic olefin inserts with both 1,2 and 1,3‐enchainment. X‐ray powder diffraction analysis of these copolymers confirmed that 1,2 inserted cyclopentene units are excluded from crystalline phase, whereas 1,3‐cyclopentene units are included, giving rise to expansion of unit cell of crystalline polyethylene. Titanium‐based catalysts were investigated also in the copolymerization of ethylene with E and Z‐2‐butene. Only complex (1) was able to give copolymers and 13C NMR analysis of products showed 2‐3, 1‐3, and 1‐2 insertion of 2‐butene. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis displayed that ethylene–cyclopentene, as well as ethylene‐2‐butene, copolymers are crystalline and their melting point decreases by increasing the comonomer content. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Catalytic activity of Me2SiCp*NtBuMX2/(CPh3)(B(C6F5)4) [MTi, XCH3 (1); MZr, X=iBu (2)] systems in the ethylene/styrene (E/S) feed was examined. Experimental data revealed high activity for the catalytic system (1) for copolymerization ethylene with styrene, whereas the system with enhanced catalytic activity for ethylene homopolymerization (2) was temporarily blocked in the styrene presence yielding, even at high styrene content, homopolyethylene as the final product. Properties of thus obtained polymers were analyzed. Catalytic system (1) occurred very sensitive to S/E ratio in the comonomers feed. The 10‐fold acceleration for ethylene consumption was shown in two experimental sets conducted at S/E = 1.3 ratio, 1 bar, and 7.5 bar ethylene pressure, respectively. The consequent enhancement in S/E ratio resulted in slowing down both ethylene consumption and catalyst deactivation rates. Atactic polystyrene was formed at high styrene content with the catalyst (1). Catalytic system (1) allowed design of products with the highest styrene content (20 mol %) at low ethylene pressure, moderate temperature, and high S/E ratio. The apparent activation energy estimated from the initial rates of ethylene consumption was 54.6 kJ/mol. Analysis of apparent reactivity factors (rE = 9 and rS = 0.04; rE × rS = 0.4) and 13C‐NMR copolymer spectra revealed an alternating tendency of the comonomers for active center incorporation. DSC measurements showed considerable decrease of melting points and crystallinity even for copolymers with low styrene content. The catalyst produced relatively high–molecular weight copolymers (140–150 kg/mol) even at 80°C. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 37: 1083–1093, 1999  相似文献

The incorporation of 5‐vinyl‐2‐norbornene (VNB) into ethylene‐norbornene copolymer was investigated with catalysts [Ph2C(Fluo)(Cp)]ZrCl2 ( 1 ), rac‐[Et(Ind)2]ZrCl2 ( 2 ), and [Me2Si(Me4Cp)tBuN]TiCl2 ( 3 ) in the presence of MAO by terpolymerizing different amounts of 5‐vinyl‐2‐norbornene with constant amounts of ethylene and norbornene at 60°C. The highest cycloolefin incorporations and highest activity in terpolymerizations were achieved with 1 . The distribution of the monomers in the terpolymer chain was determined by NMR spectroscopy. As confirmed by XRD and DSC analysis, catalysts 1 and 3 produced amorphous terpolymer, whereas 2 yielded terpolymer with crystalline fragments of long ethylene sequences. When compared with poly‐(ethylene‐co‐norbornene), VNB increased both the glass transition temperatures and molar masses of terpolymers produced with the constrained geometry catalyst whereas decreased those for the metallocenes.  相似文献

High‐molecular‐weight (MW) symmetrical multiblock copolymers, based on the hydrophobic monomers styrene (Sty) and methyl methacrylate (MMA), and the more polar monomer, 2‐vinyl pyridine (2VPy), were prepared using stepwise reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. All copolymers shared a common poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) midblock, introduced as a bifunctional macromolecular chain transfer agent. In total, five ABA triblock copolymers, five ABCBA pentablock terpolymers, and two ABCDCBA heptablock quaterpolymers (comprising four different monomer types) were synthesized. The MWs of the multiblock polymers were determined using gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, with the latter values being closer to the theoretically expected, whereas GPC MW distributions were relatively narrow, broadening with the number of blocks. The compositions of the synthesized polymers, as determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy, were also close to the expected values. Finally, films cast from chloroform solutions of the pentablock terpolymers P2VPy‐b‐PSty‐b‐PEG‐b‐PSty‐b‐P2VPy, PSty‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PSty, and P2VPy‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PMMA‐b‐P2VPy examined using transmission electron microscopy exhibited PSty and PMMA cylinders (first two) and lamellae (third terpolymer). © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of terpolymers were synthesized by the chemical oxidative polymerization of m‐phenylenediamine (MPD), o‐anisidine (AS), and 2,3‐xylidine (XY) in hydrochloride aqueous medium. The yield, intrinsic viscosity, and solubility of the terpolymers were studied by changing the MPD/AS/XY molar ratio from 100/0/0 to 53/39/8 to 0/100/0. It was discovered that the MPD/AS/XY terpolymers exhibit a higher polymerization yield and better solubility than MPD/AS and MPD/XY bipolymers having the same MPD molar content. The as‐prepared MPD/AS/XY terpolymer bases were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, ultraviolet–visible, 1H NMR, and high‐resolution solid‐state 13C NMR spectroscopies; wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction; and thermogravimetry. The results suggested that the oxidative polymerization from MPD, AS, and XY is exothermic, and the resulting terpolymers are more easily soluble in some organic solvents than MPD homopolymer. The copolymer obtained was a real terpolymer containing MPD, AS, and XY units, and the actual MPD/AS/XY molar ratio calculated by solid‐state 13C NMR spectra of the polymers is very close to the feed ratio, although the AS content calculated on the basis of the 1H NMR spectrum of the soluble part of the polymer is higher than the feed AS content. The terpolymers and MPD homopolymer exhibit a higher polymerization yield and much higher intrinsic viscosity and are more amorphous than the AS homopolymer. At a fixed MPD content of 70 mol %, the terpolymers exhibit an increased thermostability and activation energy of the major degradation in nitrogen and air with an increasing AS content. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
