This article presents the synthesis and electroluminescent (EL) properties of a stable blue‐light‐emitting copolyfluorene ( P1 ) consisting of carbazole, oxadiazole and charge‐trapping anthracene groups by Suzuki coupling reaction. The hole‐transporting carbazole and electron‐transporting oxadiazole improve charges injection and transporting properties, whereas the anthracene is the ultimate emitting chromophore. The thermal, photophysical, electrochemical, and EL properties of P1 were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimeter, optical spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and EL devices fabrication and characterization. P1 demonstrated high‐thermal stability with thermal decomposition and glass tranistion temperatures above 400 and 145°C, respectively. In film state, P1 showed blue emission at 451 nm attributed to anthracene chromophore. Photophysical and electrochemical investigations demonstrate that effective energy transfer from fluorene to anthracene segments and charges trapping on anthracene segments leads to efficient and stable blue emission originating from anthracence. Polymer light‐emitting diodes using P1 as the emitting layer (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ P1 /Ca/Al) exhibited excellent current efficiency (5.1 cd/A) with the CIE coordinate being (0.16, 0.11). The results indicate that copolyfluorene is a promising candidate for the blue‐emitting layer in the fabrication of efficient PLEDs. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of soluble alternating poly(fluorene)‐based copolymers containing electron‐transporting 1,3,4‐oxadiazole (OXD) and hole‐transporting carbazole pendants attached to the C‐9 position of fluorene units by long alkyl spacers were synthesized. These copolymers possess mesogenic and nonmesogenic pendants attached to a rigid mesogenic poly(fluorene) (PF) backbone. All these polymers exhibit glass‐forming liquid crystalline properties, including the nematic and smectic A (SmA) phases, and reveal much wider mesophasic temperature ranges than that of PF. The thermal properties and mesomorphism of these conjugated polymers are mainly affected by the nature of these pendants, and thus the mesophasic temperature ranges and glass‐forming properties are greatly enhanced by introducing the OXD pendants. In addition, the tendencies of crystallization and aggregation of PF are also suppressed by introducing the OXD pendants. A single layer device with P4 as an emitter shows a turn‐on voltage of 5 V and a bright luminescence of 2694 cd/m2 at 11 V with a power efficiency of 1.28 cd/A at 100 mA/cm2. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of PPV derivatives bearing substituted and unsubstituted carbazole and 2-ethylhexyloxy pendants were prepared and their photo- (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) properties were studied. Substituted carbazole structures were N-phenylcarbazole and 3,6-dimethoxycarbazole. The substituents on the carbazole pendants caused little change in UV-vis absorption, PL, and EL when compared with the polymer bearing the unsubstituted carbazole pendants. The presence of the benzene ring between the main chain and the carbazole pendant increased the threshold electric field in EL. We could obtain maximum brightness of ca. 17,000 - 30,000 cd/m2 for the polymers carrying the unsubstituted and dimethoxy substituted carbazole pendants.  相似文献

We designed a 3,6‐dibromo‐9‐hexyl‐9H‐carbazole derivative with the blue emissive iridium complex bis[2‐(4,6‐difluorophenyl)pyridyl‐N,C2′](picolinato)iridium(III) (FIrpic) linked at the alkyl terminal. Based on this monomer, novel 3,6‐carbazole‐alt‐tetraphenylsilane copolymers grafted with FIrpic were synthesized by palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction, and the content of FIrpic in the polymers could be controlled by feed ratio of the monomers. The polymer films mainly show blue emission from FIrpic, and the emission intensity from the polymer backbones is much weaker compared with the doped analogues, which demonstrates an efficient energy transfer from polymeric host to covalently bonded guest. The phase separation in the polymers was suppressed, which can be identified by atomic force microscopy and designed electroluminescent (EL) devices. EL devices based on the polymers exhibited blue phosphorescence from FIrpic. The luminous efficiency of preliminary devices reached 2.3 cd/A, and the efficiency roll‐off at high current densities was suppressed. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) derivatives ( polymer 1 and 2 ) that carry hole‐transporting carbazole and electron‐transporting phenyloxadiazole pendants were synthesized and their photo‐ and electroluminescence properties were studied. Polymer 1 is poly[2‐(N‐carbazolyl)‐5‐(2‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] that has both carbazole and 2‐ethylhexyl pendant groups. And polymer 2 is poly[2‐{4‐[5‐(4‐t‐butylphenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazolyl]phenyl}‐5‐(2‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene], which bears the 2‐(4‐t‐butylphenyl)‐5‐phenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole pendants. The optical properties of the polymer films were studied by UV‐vis absorption, photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) spectroscopy. EL devices with the configuration of ITO/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxy‐2,5‐thienylene) (PEDOT) polymer/Ca/Al were constructed and the device performances were compared. Polymer 1 emits bright yellowish green light (λmax = 530 nm), whereas polymer 2 emits yellowish orange (λmax = 540 nm) light. The device fabricated using polymer 1 showed a low turn‐on electric field of 0.31 MV/cm and the maximum luminance of 30,390 cd/m2 at 1.50 MV/cm. Polymer 2 exhibited a little poorer device performance (turn‐on electric field: 0.94 MV/cm; maximum luminance: 5,720 cd/m2 at 2.74 MV/cm). Maximum photometric efficiencies of the devices were 4.4 and 1.3 cd/A, respectively.  相似文献

Three novel poly(2,7‐carbazole)s having hole injection and transporting pendent moieties of carbazole and triphenylamine at the N‐position were synthesized for achieving pure blue electroluminescence. The N‐pendants in the polymers correspond to N‐phenylcarbazol‐2‐yl ( P1 ), N,N‐diphenylamino‐N‐phenylcarabazol‐2‐yl ( P2) , and 4‐phenyl having a hydrocarbon chain with a triphenylamine terminal ( P3 ), respectively. Electronic, optical, and electroluminescence properties of these polymers were compared with those of a poly(2,7‐carbazole) directly connected with triphenylamine at the N‐position ( P0 ) having an aggregation‐induced emissive property. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra suggested that they could emit in the region of blue light in the film state. Especially, P2 that has the fixed and large diphenylaminocarbazolyl pendant showed a deep‐blue fluorescence with CIE(x, y) = (0.15, 0.07). The P0 , P2 , and P3 based light emitting diode devices showed maximum electroluminescence wavelengths in the range of 430–450 nm. The P2 device showed pure blue emission (CIE[x, y] = [0.18, 0.16]), high luminance (1130 cd/m2) and current density (628 mA/cm2) at 8 V, whereas low‐energy emissions around 500–600 nm were emerged at higher than 9 V. The P0 and P3 devices also showed a blue electroluminescence in the range of 8–11 V, but their luminance and efficiency were low. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of fluorene derivatives containing nonsymmetric and bulky aromatic groups at C‐9 position were synthesized and used for the preparation of blue‐light‐emitting copolyfluorenes ( P1 – P4 ) by the Suzuki coupling polycondensation. The copolymers were characterized by molecular weight determination, elemental analysis, differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimetric analysis, absorption and emission spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and differential pulse voltammetry. Their decomposition temperatures and glass transition temperatures are 423–441 °C and >120 °C, respectively. In film state, the copolyfluorenes exhibit blue photoluminescence at 425–450 nm, which remains almost unchanged after annealing at 200 °C in air for 60 min. Polymer light‐emitting diodes [ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ P1 – P4 /Ca(50 nm)/Al(100 nm)] show stable blue‐light emission under device operation with the CIE co‐ordinates being between (0.16, 0.07) and (0.17, 0.09). The light‐emitting diodes devices from P1 and P3 containing electron‐deficient oxadiazole units display enhanced performance, with the maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency being (4510 cd/m2 and 2.40 cd/A) and (2930 cd/m2, 1.19 cd/A), respectively. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two PPV‐based bipolar polymers containing 1,3,4‐oxadiazole pendant groups were synthesized via the Gilch polymerization reaction for use in light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). The resulting polymers were characterized using 1H and 13C NMR, elemental analysis, DSC, and TGA. These polymers were found to be soluble in common organic solvents and are easily spin‐coated onto glass substrates, producing high optical quality thin films without defects. The electro‐optical properties of ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al devices based on these polymers were investigated using UV‐visible, PL, and EL spectroscopy. The turn‐on voltages of the OC1Oxa‐PPV and OC10Oxa‐PPV devices were found to be 8.0 V. The maximum brightness and luminescence efficiency of the OC1Oxa‐PPV device were found to be 544 cd/m2 at 19 V and 0.15 cd/A, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolyfluorenes PFG1~PFG4 slightly doped with 0.006–0.5 mol % of 2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐bis(2‐phenyl‐2‐cyanovinyl)benzene (green chromophore) were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction to be evaluated as hosts for white‐light electroluminescent (EL) devices. Their optical, thermal and electrochemical properties were almost identical to those of polyfluorene ( PF ) due to minimal chromophore content. However, the electroluminescent (EL) spectra of the PFGn were very different from photoluminescence spectra in film state. Relative intensity of green emission (ca. 521 nm) in EL spectra are much stronger than those in PL spectra, which can be attributed to charges trapping in the chromophores due to its narrow band gap (Eg ≈ 2.56 eV). The performance of EL devices [ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca (50 nm)/Al (100 nm)] were improved with an increase in chromophore content. The PFG4 device revealed the best performance (6790 cd/m2, 1.69 cd/A), and the PFG1 and PFG2 devices exhibited comparable intensity in blue and green emissions. Blend EL devices were fabricated by using the PFGn as the hosts and a red iridium complex [Ir(piq)2(acac)] as dopant. By controlling the amount of the iridium complex, the white‐light emitting device was achieved with PFG2 , with maximum brightness and CIE coordinate being 4120 cd/m2 and (0.31, 0.28), respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel blue‐emitting polymer based on 3,6‐silafluorene and 2,7‐silafluorene was synthesized via the Suzuki polycondensation. The resulting polymers are readily soluble in common organic solvents, such as toluene, xylene, THF, and chloroform. The thermal, electrochemical, photophysical, and electroluminescence properties of the resulting polymers were investigated. The device fabricated from the copolymer with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK/polymer/Ba/Al exhibited an external quantum efficiency of 1.95%, a luminous efficiency of 1.69 cd A?1 and a maximal brightness of 6000 cd m?2. It has been found that the incorporation of the 3,6‐silafluorene unit into the poly(2,7‐silafluorene) main chain can not only improve the color purity of the devices from the resulting copolymer but also enhance its device efficiency. Moreover, no undesired long‐wavelength green emission was observed in the PL spectra of P36‐27SiF90 compared to that of PFO with a dominating emission at 500–600 nm after thermal annealing at 200 °C for 8 h. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have synthesized a blue‐light‐emitting polyfluorene (PF) derivative ( PF‐CBZ‐OXD ) that presents bulky hole‐transporting carbazole and electron‐transporting oxadiazole pendent groups functionalized at the C‐9 positions of alternating fluorene units. The results from photoluminescence and electrochemical measurements indicate that both the side chains and the PF main chain retain their own electronic characteristics in the copolymer. An electroluminescent device incorporating this polymer as the emitting layer was turned on at 4.5 V; it exhibited a stable blue emission with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 1.1%. Moreover, we doped PF‐CBZ‐OXD and its analogue PF‐TPA‐OXD with a red‐light‐emitting iridium phosphor for use as components of phosphorescent red‐light emitters to investigate the effect of the host's HOMO energy level on the degree of charge trapping and on the electrophosphorescent efficiency. We found that spectral overlap and individual energy level matching between the host and guest were both crucial features affecting the performance of the electroluminescence devices. Atomic force microscopy measurements indicated that the dipolar nature of PF‐CBZ‐OXD , in contrast to the general nonpolarity of polydialkylfluorenes, provided a stabilizing environment that allowed homogeneous dispersion of the polar iridium triplet dopant. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carbazole and fluorene‐based random and alternating copolycondensates were synthesized to develop high‐performance blue light‐emitting polymers by improving electron injection ability of poly(N‐aryl‐2,7‐carbazole)s that showed intense blue electroluminescence (EL) with good hole‐injection and ‐transport ability. These copolycondensates absorbed light energy at about λmax = 390 nm in CHCl3 and 400 nm in film state, and fluoresced at about λmax = 417 nm in CHCl3 and 430 nm in the thin film state. Energy gaps between highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of them were about 2.9 eV, and the energy levels of LUMO situated lower than that of corresponding polycarbazole. Polymer light‐emitting diode devices having configuration of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐poly(styrenesulfonate)/polymer/CsF/Al using the copolycondensates, poly(N‐arylcarbazole‐2,7‐diyl), and poly(9,9‐dialkylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl), emitted bluish EL at operating voltages lower than 7 V. The device embedded the random copolycondensate showed notably higher performance with maximum luminance of 31,200 cd m?2 at 11.0 V, and the current efficiencies observed under operating voltages lower than 7 V were higher than those of the other devices. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To study influence of the donor(D)‐acceptor(A) units and pendent mode of phosphorescent moiety on the opto‐electronic properties for its resulting copolymers, two D‐A‐based polyfluorene derivatives ( P 1 and P 2) pending the red‐emitting iridium bi(phenylisoquilonato) (picolinato) [Ir(Piq)2(pic)] unit and a polyfluorene derivative ( P 3) only pending Ir(Piq)2(pic) unit were synthesized and characterized, in which the donor of carbazole, the acceptor of oxadiazole are grafted into the C‐9 position of fluorene, the Ir(Piq)2(pic) unit is pended into either the C‐9 position for P 1 and P 3 or the end for P 2 of fluorene by unconjugated linkage, respectively. Their opto‐electronic properties were significantly influenced by the D‐A units and pendent mode of the Ir(Piq)2(pic) unit. In the polymer light‐emitting devices with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT/polymers/LiF/Al, the P 1 showed best electroluminescent properties than the P 2 and P 3. The maximum current efficiency of 0.72 cd/A and the highest luminance of 1398 cd/m 2 were obtained in the P 1‐based device, which are 1.3 and 1.5 times higher than those in the P 2‐based device, respectively. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyfluorene homopolymer ( P1 ) and its carbazole derivatives ( P2 – P4 ) have been prepared with good yield by Suzuki coupling polymerization. P2 is an alternating copolymer based on fluorene and carbazole; P3 is a hyperbranched polymer with carbazole derivative as the core and polyfluorene as the long arms; P4 is a hyperbranched polymer with carbazole derivative as the core and the alternating fluorene and carbazole as the long arms. These polymers show highly thermal stability, and their structures and physical properties are studied using gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, UV–vis absorption, photoluminescence, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The influence of the incorporation of carbazole and the hyperbranched structures on the thermal, electrochemical, and electroluminescent properties has been investigated. Both carbazole addition and the hyperbranched structure increase the thermal and photoluminescent stability. The CV shows an increase of the HOMO energy levels for the derivatives, compared with polyfluorene homopolymer ( P1 ). The EL devices fabricated by these polymers exhibit pure blue‐light‐emitting with negligible low‐energy emission bands, indicating that the hyperbranched structure has a strong effect on the PLED characteristics. The results imply that incorporating carbazole into polyfluorene to form a hyperbranched structure is an efficient way to obtain highly stable blue‐light‐emitting conjugated polymers, and it is possible to adjust the property of light‐emitting polymers by the amount of carbazole derivative incorporated into the polymers. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report novel host polymers for a high‐efficiency polymer‐based solution‐processed phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diode with typical blue‐emitting dopant bis(4,6‐difluorophenylpyridinato‐N,C2)iridium(III) picolinate (FIrpic). The host polymers, soluble polynorbornenes with pendant carbazole derivatives, N‐phenyl‐9H‐carbazole ( P1 ), N‐biphenyl‐9H‐carbazole ( P2 ), and 9,9′‐(1,3‐phenylene)bis‐9H‐carbazole (mCP) ( P3 ) are efficiently synthesized by vinyl addition polymerization of norbornene monomers using Pd(II) catalyst in combination with 1‐octene chain transfer agent. The polymers exhibit high thermal stability with high decomposition (Td5 > 410 °C) and glass transition temperatures (Tg ≈ 268 °C). The HOMO (ca. ?5.5 to ?5.7 eV) and LUMO (ca. ?2.0 to ?2.1 eV) levels with the high triplet energy of about 2.7–3.0 eV suggest that the polymers are suitable for a host material for blue emitters. Among the solution‐processed devices that were fabricated based on the emissive layers containing the P1 ? P3 host doped with various concentrations of FIrpic (7–13 wt %), the best device with P3 host exhibits power efficiency of 3.0 lm W?1 and external quantum efficiency of 4.0% at a luminance of 1000 cd m?2 that is outstanding among the polymeric rivals. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel organic–inorganic hybrid polyfluorene derivatives, poly{(9,9′‐dioctyl‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐(9,9′‐di‐POSS‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐[2,5‐bis(octyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} (PFDOPPOSS) and poly{(9,9′‐dioctyl‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐(9,9′‐di‐POSS‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐bithiophene} (PFT2POSS), were synthesized by the Pd‐catalyzed Suzuki reaction of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) appended fluorene, dioctyl phenylene, and bithiophene moieties. The synthesized polymers were characterized with 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Photoluminescence (PL) studies showed that the incorporation of the POSS pendant into the polyfluorene derivatives significantly enhanced the fluorescence quantum yields of the polymer films, likely via a reduction in the degree of interchain interaction as well as keto formation. Additionally, the blue‐light‐emitting polyfluorene derivative PFDOPPOSS showed high thermal color stability in PL. Moreover, single‐layer light‐emitting diode devices of an indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)/polymer/Ca/Al configuration fabricated with PFDOPPOSS and PFT2POSS showed much improved brightness, maximum luminescence intensity, and quantum efficiency in comparison with devices fabricated with the corresponding pristine polymers PFDOP and PFT2. In particular, the maximum external quantum efficiency of PFT2POSS was 0.13%, which was twice that of PFT2 (0.06%), and the maximum current efficiency of PFT2POSS was 0.38 cd/A, which again was twice that of PFT2 (0.19 cd/A). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new strategy to realize efficient white‐light emission from a binary fluorene‐based copolymer (PF‐Phq) with the fluorene segment as a blue emitter and the iridium complex, 9‐iridium(III)bis(2‐(2‐phenyl‐quinoline‐N,C3′)(11,13‐tetradecanedionate))‐3,6‐carbazole (Phq), as a red emitter has been proposed and demonstrated. The photo‐ and electroluminescence properties of the PF‐Phq copolymers were investigated. White‐light emission with two bands of blue and red was achieved from the binary copolymers. The efficiency increased with increasing concentration of iridium complex, which resulted from its efficient phosphorescence emission and the weak phosphorescent quenching due to its lower triplet energy level than that of polyfluorene. In comparison with the binary copolymer, the efficiency and color purity of the ternary copolymers (PF‐Phq‐BT) were improved by introducing fluorescent green benzothiadiazole (BT) unit into polyfluorene backbone. This was ascribed to the exciton confinement of the benzothiadiazole unit, which allowed efficient singlet energy transfer from fluorene segment to BT unit and avoided the triplet quenching resulted from the higher triplet energy levels of phosphorescent green emitters than that of polyfluorene. The phosphorescence quenching is a key factor in the design of white light‐emitting polyfluorene with triplet emitter. It is shown that using singlet green and triplet red emitters is an efficient approach to reduce and even avoid the phosphorescence quenching in the fluorene‐based copolymers. The strategy to incorporate singlet green emitter to polyfluorene backbone and to attach triplet red species to the side chain is promising for white polymer light‐emitting diodes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of functional polyacetylenes (PAs) bearing diphenyl oxadiazole pendant groups ( P1 – P4 ) were prepared, and the resultant polymers are completely soluble in common organic solvents. Their structures and properties were characterized and evaluated by DSC, TGA, UV, PL, CV, and EL analyses. The results show that all the resulting polymers possesses low LUMO energy level and high thermal stability, and the resultant functional polyacetylenes without spacer group between the polyacetylene conjugated main chain and oxadiazole pendant groups ( P1 – P3 ) show lower LUMO energy level (~?3.87 eV) and higher thermal properties (Tg) than that ( P4 ) with a flexible spacer. The resultant polymer ( P2 ) was applied as an ETM in bilayer electroluminescent devices and effectively enhances external quantum efficiency and the brightness of device, and decreases turn‐on voltages of devices. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have developed efficient white‐light‐emitting polymers through the incorporation of low‐bandgap orange‐light‐emitting benzoselenadiazole ( BSeD ) moieties into the backbone of a blue‐light‐emitting bipolar polyfluorene (PF) copolymer, which contains hole‐transporting triphenylamine and electron‐transporting oxadiazole pendent groups. By carefully controlling the concentrations of the low‐energy‐emitting species in the resulting copolymers, partial energy transfer from the blue‐fluorescent PF backbone to the orange‐fluorescent segments led to a single polymer emitting white light and exhibiting two balanced blue and orange emissions simultaneously. Efficient polymer light‐emitting devices prepared using this copolymer exhibited luminance efficiencies as high as 4.1 cd/A with color coordinates (0.30, 0.36) located in the white‐light region. Moreover, the color coordinates remained almost unchanged over a range of operating potentials. A mechanistic study revealed that energy transfer from the PF backbone to the low‐bandgap segments, rather than charge trapping, was the main operating process involved in the electroluminescence process. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
