Three derivatives of alkyl anthracene covalently bonded to aza‐18‐crown‐6 at the nitrogen position, anthracene(CH2)n, (n = 1–3) which act as an on–off fluorogenic photoswitch have been theoretically studied using a computational strategy based on density functional theory at B3LYP/6‐31 + G(d,p) method. The fully optimized geometries have been performed with real frequencies which indicate the minima states. The binding energies, enthalpies and Gibbs free energies have been calculated for aza‐18‐crown‐6 ( L ) and their metal complexes. The natural bond orbital analysis is used to explore the interaction of host–guest molecules. The absorption spectra differences between L and their metal ligands, the excitation energies and absorption wavelength for their excited states have been studied by time‐dependent density functional theory with the basis set 6‐31 + G(d,p). These fluorescent sensors and switchers based on photoinduced electron transfer mechanism have been investigated. The PET process from aza‐crown ether to fluorophore can be suppressed or completely blocked by the entry of alkali metal cations into the aza‐crown ether‐based receptor. Such a suppression of the PET process means that fluorescence intensity is enhanced. The binding selectivity studies of the aza‐crown ether part of L indicate that the presence of the alkali metal cations Li+, Na+ and K+ play an important role in determining the internal charge transfer and the fluorescence properties of the complexes. In addition, the solvent effect has been investigated. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The present study compared the interactions among Na +, K +, Mg2+ and Ca2+, thymine and its tautomers in the gas and solvent phase, an interaction dependent upon the electronic construction of the tautomers. Three types of cation interaction with thymine and its tautomers were observed. In the first one, the metal cations interacted with a lone pair of nitrogen or oxygen of the tautomers. In the second type, there was an interaction among the cations, nitrogen and oxygen at the same time; the last one was that of cations with the electron density of thymine π-system, where the cations were perpendicular to the ring of thymine. The interaction of metals cation with tautomers was studied in the gas and solvent phases; a comparison was then made between interactions in two phases. The interaction energy for all complexes indicated the stability of complexes, an energy which was higher in Ca2+ and Mg2+ compared with Na+ and K+. Concerning K+ and Na+, the stability of all complexes of tautomers was greater than that of thymine complexes; however, the stability of certain Ca2+ and Mg2+ complexes was lower than the complexes of thymine.  相似文献

A novel fluorescent switchable chemosensor 1 , which is composed of an anthracene‐modified calix[4]crown in the 1,3‐alternate conformation, was calculated by density functional theory and time‐dependent density functional theory method. Geometries, molecular orbitals and binding thermal energies were evaluated at the restricted hybrid Becke's three‐parameter exchange functional using 6‐31 G(d) basis set and relativistic effective core potentials. The metal–ligand and cation–π interactions were investigated acting as two main types of driving force. Our calculations clearly show that solvent effects strongly influence cation selectivity, and K+ selectivity is recovered when even a few waters of hydration are considered. The calculations indicate that because of the photoinduced electron transfer effect, the addition of alkali metal ions have hardly any effect on the fluorescence of ligand 1 under neutral or basic conditions. Also, the high selectivity of ligand 1 for K+ and Rb+, under acidic conditions, the complexed metal ion can result in ammonium ion deprotonation, which leads to quenching of fluorescence of 1 ?H+. The interaction between Na+, K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions and benzo crown ethers B15C5, DB18C6, DB21C7, DB24C8 and DB30C10 in ethanol solution has been studied spectrophotometrically at 25°C. The formation constants for 1:1 complexes were determined by computer fitting of the resulting UV-absorbance-mole ratio data. In the case of all crown ethers used, K+ ion was found to form the most stable complexes. The observed selectivities of different benzo crowns for the cations used are discussed in terms of the cavity-cation size ratio, number of the donating oxygens participating in the cation binding, conformations of the free and complexed ligands and ionic solvation.  相似文献

Normal and less polarised water models are used as the solvent to investigate Hofmeister effects and alkali metal ionic effects on dodecamer d(CGCGAATTCGCG) B-DNA with atomic dynamics simulations. As normal water solvent is replaced by less polarised water, the Hofmeister series of alkali metal ions is changed from Li+ > Na+ ? K+ ? Cs+ ? Rb+ to Li+ > Na+ > K+ > Rb+ > Cs+. In less polarised water, DNA experiences the B→A conformational transition for the lighter alkali metal counterions (Li+, Na+ and K+). However, it keeps B form for the heavier ions (Rb+ and Cs+). We find that the underlying cause of the conformation transition for these alkali metal ions except K+ is the competition between water molecules and counterions coupling to the free oxygen atoms of the phosphate groups. For K+ ions, the ‘economics’ of phosphate hydration and ‘spine of hydration’ are both concerned with the DNA helixes changing.  相似文献

The coordination geometries, electronic features, metal ion affinities, entropies, and the energetics of Li+, Na+, K+, Be2+, Mg2+, and Ca2+ metal cations with different possible conformations of cysteine complexes were studied. The complexes were optimized using density functional theory (B3LYP) and second order Moller–Plesset Perturbation (MP2) theory methods using 6‐311 + +G** basis set. The interactions of the metal cations at different nucleophilic sites of cysteine conformations were considered after a careful selection among several binding sites. All the metal cations coordinate with cysteine in a tridentate manner and also the most preferred position for the interaction. It is found that, the overall structural parameters of cysteine are not altered by metal ion substitution, but, the metal ion‐binding site has undergone a noticeable change. All the complexes were characterized by an electrostatic interaction between ligand and metal ions that appears slightly more pronounced for lithium and beryllium metal complexes. The metal ion affinity (MIA) and basis set superposition error (BSSE) corrected interaction energy were also computed for all the complexes. The effect of metal cations on the infrared (IR) stretching vibrational modes of amino N? H bond, side chain thiol group S? H bond, hydroxyl O? H bond, and Carbonyl C?O bond in cysteine molecules have also been studied. The nature of the metal ion‐ligand bond and the coordination properties were examined using natural bond order (NBO) at bond critical point (electron density and their Laplacian of electron density) through Atoms in Molecules (AIM) analyses. The complex formation of bis(18‐crown‐6)stilbene ( 1 ) and its supramolecular donor‐acceptor complex with N,N′‐bis(ammonioethyl) 1,2‐di(4‐pyridyl)ethylene derivative ( 2 ) with alkali and alkaline‐earth metal perchlorates has been studied using absorption, steady‐state fluorescence, and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. The formation of 1 ?Mn+ and 1 ?(Mn+)2 complexes in acetonitrile was demonstrated. The weak long‐wavelength charge‐transfer absorption band of 1 · 2 completely vanishes upon complexation with metal cations because of disruption of the pseudocyclic structure. The spectroscopic and luminescence parameters, stability constants, and 2‐stage dissociation constants were calculated. The initial stage of a recoordination process was found in the excited complexes 1 ?M+ and 1 ?(M+)2 (M = Li, Na). The pronounced fluorescence quenching of 1 · 2 is explained by very fast back electron transfer (τet = 0.397 ps). The structure of complex 1 · 2 was studied by X‐ray diffraction; stacked ( 1 · 2 )m polymer in which the components were connected by hydrogen bonding and stacking was found in the crystal. These compounds can be considered as novel optical molecular sensors for alkali and alkaline‐earth metal cations.  相似文献

The study of the complex formation of 3,3‐diphenyl‐3H‐benzo[f]chromenes containing aza‐18‐crown‐6‐ether, diaza‐18‐crown‐6‐ether or morpholine units with alkali, alkaline earth, heavy and transition metal cations in acetonitrile is reported. The spectroscopic and kinetic behavior of the photomerocyanine isomers of these chromenes is strongly affected by complexation with a metal cation. In order to interpret some of experimental data, an ab initio theoretical analysis of photochromic‐crown ether and its cation complexes was conducted. The different site of coordination of mono‐ and divalent cations to determine the minimum‐energy structure of benzochromene complexes in gas phase as well as in acetonitrile as solvent was explored. The coordination of both carbonyl oxygen and crown‐ether macrocyle with divalent cations in carbonyl‐capped structure is found to be the most stable isomer in gas as well as in condensed media. The crown‐containing benzochromenes were studied in liquid‐liquid extraction experiments toward there capacity to transfer metallic salts from water into an organic phase. The high selectivity to extraction of Ag+ was found. Changes in the fluorescence intensity of anionic polymers bearing naphtho-18-crown-6 moieties on addition of cations were studied in water at 30 °C. On addition of alkali metal cations, the fluorescence intensity of the polymers decreased sharply for Tl+ less for Cs+ and little for Li+, K+ and Rb+. On addition of alkaline earth metal cations, Ba2+ caused the strongest decrease of the fluorescence intensity of the polymers. The decrease of the fluorescence intensity of the polymers was suggested to be caused by the external heavy-atom effect of the cations bound to the cavity of the crowned naphthalene moiety. The content of the crowned naphthalene units in the polymers affected the cation-dependent fluorescence change. The fluorescence change of the polymers based on the cation complexation competition was also studied.  相似文献

A cyclic network of four intramolecular C–I…N interactions is shown to bind Na+ and Ca2+ with corresponding binding energies of 57 and 175 kcal/mol, respectively. The halogen-bonded network is built by connecting four molecules of 2-iodoimidazole with acetylene and ethylene as convenient linkers. 2-iodoimidazole provides both the halogen bond donor and the halogen bond acceptor moieties. Each of the four iodine atoms participates in the binding of the metal ion as indicated by the presence of bond paths connecting the metal ion with each one of the halogen atoms in the host, and orthogonal to the C–I…N interactions. A similar intermolecular network of C–I…N interactions is also found to form by the interactions of four 2-iodoimidazole molecules. In contrast to its intramolecular counterpart, the intermolecular C–I…N network is at least partly destroyed upon metal-ion binding as the metal ion competes somewhat successfully for the lone pair of the acceptor nitrogen atoms.  相似文献

Changes in the fluorescence intensity of polyanions bearing 4-acryloylbenzo-18-crown-6 units on the addition of cations were studied in a mixed solvent of methanol and water at 30°C. The sensitivity of the change in fluorescence intensities of the polymers toward cations was strongly enhanced compared to that of the corresponding model compound. When alkali metal cations were added, the fluorescence intensity of the polymers decreased in the orders Li+>Na+>Cs+>Rb+>K+ in a methanol-water (19) mixture and Li+>Na+>Rb+>K+Cs+ in a methanol-water (91) mixture. Alkaline earth metal cations and alkylamine hydrochlorides decreased the fluorescence intensity of the polymers in a methanol-water (19) mixture. The cation-dependent decrease in the fluorescence intensity of the polymers was affected by the water fraction in a mixed solvent of methanol and water.  相似文献

We present a mechanistic study for nucleophilic substitution (SN2) reactions facilitated by multifunctional n‐oligoethylene glycols (n‐oligoEGs) using alkali metal salts MX (M+ = Cs+, K+, X = F, Br, I, CN) as nucleophilic agents. Density functional theory method is employed to elucidate the underlying mechanism of the SN2 reaction. We found that the nucleophiles react as ion pairs, whose metal cation is ‘coordinated’ by the oxygen atoms in oligoEGs acting as Lewis base to reduce the unfavorable electrostatic effects of M+ on X. The two terminal hydroxyl (?OH) function as ‘anchors’ to collect the nucleophile and the substrate in an ideal configuration for the reaction. Calculated barriers of the reactions are in excellent agreement with all experimentally observed trends of SN2 yields obtained by using various metal cations, nucleophiles and oligoEGs. The reaction barriers are calculated to decrease from triEG to pentaEG, in agreement with the experimentally observed order of efficiency (triEG < tetraEG < pentaEG). The observed relative efficiency of the metal cations Cs+ versus K+ is also nicely demonstrated (larger [better] barrier [efficiency] for Cs+ than for K+). We also examine the effects of the nucleophiles (F, Br, I, CN), finding that the magnitudes of reaction barriers are F > CN > Br > I, elucidating the observation that the yield was lowest for F. It is suggested that the role of oxygen atoms in the promoters is equivalent to that of –OH group in bulky alcohols (tert‐butyl or amyl‐alcohol) for SN2 fluorination reactions previously studied in our lab. Abstract

Salts of the [Eu(2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate)3]3- complex anion and various monovalent inorganic and organic counterions (Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+, Cs+, NH4 +, and pyridinium+) have been synthesized and studied by emission spectroscopy. The Eu3+ ion emission spectra exhibited by these salts have been observed with high resolution (less than 1.0 cm?1) and at low temperature (77 K). The emission spectra of these compounds indicate that changing the attached counterion does not affect the site symmetry observed by the europium ion beyond slight distortions indicated by small shifts in the energies of the Eu3+ electronic levels.  相似文献

Colloidal suspensions of hematite in contact with aqueous solutions of 50 mM alkali metal chloride electrolytes (NaCl, KCl, RbCl, CsCl) were investigated by cryogenic X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrophoretic mobility. Suspension pH values were varied from 2 to 11 in order to evaluate effects of positively- and negatively-charged hematite surfaces. XPS revealed coexisting cations and chloride ions both below and above the point of zero charge. Concentration profiles of adsorbed cations point to a Hofmeister series in the order of Na+ > K+ > Rb+  Cs+. Binding energies of photoelectrons emitted from electrolyte ions increased with pH at roughly 0.04 eV per pH unit. This shift was attributed to variations in the surface electric potential of hematite. This effect, compounded by rises in aliphatic carbon signals with pH, called for referencing of all spectra to the 530.0 eV oxide component of the hematite O1s spectrum. This departure from the traditional use of the external C 1s 285.0 eV peak is hereby proposed for cryogenic XPS studies of interfacial reactions involving hematite.  相似文献

Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) was applied to determine the relative efficiencies for attachment of alkali cations to poly(ethylene glycol) polymers. The solvent-free sample preparation method was employed in order to discriminate the gas-phase polymer-cation complex formation mechanism from solubility and co-crystallization effects. We show that the cohesion energy of the cation precursor has a strong influence on the outcome of the MALDI measurements. This potential drawback is circumvented by the simultaneous use of alkali salts of similar lattice energy. The experiments include chain polymers of different length (PEG600 and PEG1000) and alkali cations of different size (Na+, K+, Cs+). We found that the attachment efficiencies decrease with growing cation size. This decrease is significantly more rapid for the shorter PEG600 polymers. These results corroborate the general trends observed in earlier studies, but correct the dependence on alkali cation size assessed in previous MALDI experiments with the conventional dried-droplet sample preparation method.  相似文献

The room-temperature luminescent emission characteristics of Sr2CeO4:M+ and Sr2CeO4:Eu3+,M+ (M+ = Li+, Na+, K+) have been investigated under UV excitation. By introducing appropriate alkali metal cations dopants (Li+, Na+, K+) into the crystalline lattice, not only emission color of the blue-white-emitting Sr2CeO4 doped with low Eu3+ content can be tuned to green, but also the red emission intensity of Sr2CeO4 doped with high Eu3+ concentration is strengthened significantly. The relevant mechanisms have been elucidated in detail.  相似文献

An improved method for the synthesis of formyl derivatives of N‐methylbenzoazacrown ethers is proposed. They are prepared in up to 68% yields over fewer steps and with a much shorter time required for the last step. The stability constants of complexes formed by N‐methylbenzoazacrown ethers and their structural analogs with alkali metal, alkaline‐earth metal and ammonium cations were determined by 1H NMR titration in CD3CN. High stability of complexes of N‐methyl derivatives of benzoazacrown ethers is demonstrated, comparable with or even exceeding the stability of benzocrown‐ether complexes and markedly exceeding the stability of complexes of phenylazacrown ethers with the same macrocycle size. The structures of azacrown ethers and their complexes with Ba(ClO4)2 were studied by X‐ray diffraction. A high degree of pre‐organization of N‐methylbenzoazacrown ethers toward the formation of complexes with metal and ammonium cations was noted, which is due to the clear‐cut pyramidal geometry of the nitrogen atom and the orientation of the lone electron pairs (LEPs) of most heteroatoms towards the centre of the macroheterocycle. Type I FA (Rb+, Cs+) and II FA (Li+, Na+) tunable laser activities, adsorptivity and donor-acceptor properties of O and O adsorbates at the flat surface of KCl crystal were investigated using an embedded cluster model and ab initio methods of molecular electronic structure calculations. Ion clusters were embedded in a simulated Coulomb field that closely approximates the Madelung field of the host surface, and the nearest neighbor ions to the defect site were allowed to relax to equilibrium. Based on the calculated Stokes shifted optical transition bands, FA tunable laser activities were found to be inversely proportional to the size of the dopant cation (Li+, Na+, Rb+, Cs+) relative to the host cation (K+). This relation was explained in terms of the axial perturbation of the impurity cation. The probability of orientational bleaching attributed to the RES saddle point ion configuration along the 〈110〉 axis was found to be inversely proportional to the size of the dopant cation, with activation energy barriers of ca. 0.44-3.34 eV. Surface relaxation energies of type II FA centers were more important than those of type I FA centers. In terms of defect formation energies, the products of type II FA center imperfection were more stable than those of type I FA. The difference between F or FA band energies and exciton bands depended almost exclusively on the size of the positive ion species. As far as the adsorptivity of O and O is concerned, the results confirm that surface imperfection enhances the adsorption energies by ca. 4.38-16.37 eV. O and O penetrate through the defect-containing surface. The energy gap between the adsorbate and the defect containing surface and the donor-acceptor property of adsorbate play the dominant role in the course of adsorbate substrate interactions and the results were explained in terms of electrostatic potential curves and Mulliken population analysis.  相似文献

A novel and simple method for the colorimetric quantitative sensing of individual alkali metal ions (Li+, Na+, K+, and Rb+) based on the reversible properties of self-assembled aggregates and individual gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) is described. This paper demonstrates reversible self-assembly processes where the degree of assembly and disassembly is dependent on the individual alkali metal ion concentration, nanoparticle size, and alkali metal ionic radii. The color changes of the colloidal Au NPs with metal ion concentrations in colloidal NP solutions occur reversibly. Below a certain concentration of alkali metal ions, the aggregates of Au NPs are redispersed. As the Au NP diameters and the alkali metal ionic radii increase, the critical concentration decreases.  相似文献

Geometry optimisation and metal ion affinities (MIAs) of the binding configurations of Be2+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ to L ‐proline were calculated using the hybrid Density Functional Theory (DFT‐B3LYP) and second order Møllet?Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) methods. Be2+ was found to bind preferentially in a charge transfer type arrangement through the carbonyl oxygen (? C?O) and the lone pair of the imino‐group nitrogen atom (? NH? ). On the contrary Mg2+ and Ca2+ were found to prefer binding in a bi‐dentate manner through the carboxylate group of L ‐proline (OCO) in a zwitterion form. The main types of interactions found to influence the binding preference of M2+ ions to L ‐proline were (i) charge transfer in the case of Be2+ ions and (ii) electrostatic interactions in the case of Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions. Inspection of the IR stretching of the N? H and the O? H groups of L ‐proline with M2+ ions in a chelating configuration (to both O and N atoms) indicated a considerable shift to higher frequency with decreasing MIA. On the other hand, the MIA for the zwitterion L ‐proline with M2+ tracks the reciprocal distance of the M2+? OCO bond further confirming that the nature of the bond is mainly electrostatic. Comparison with other molecules containing the carboxylic function is also included in order to gain more insight on the types of interaction of this amino acid with metal ions in general.
