Optimal Control of PDEs with Regularized Pointwise State Constraints   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This paper addresses the regularization of pointwise state constraints in optimal control problems. By analyzing the associated dual problem, it is shown that the regularized problems admit Lagrange multipliers in L2-spaces. Under a certain boundedness assumption, the solution of the regularized problem converges to the one of the original state constrained problem. The results of our analysis are confirmed by numerical tests. Supported by the DFG Research Center “Mathematics for key technologies” (FZT 86) in Berlin.  相似文献

We consider a Pareto multiobjective optimization problem with a feasible set defined by inequality and equality constraints and a set constraint, where the objective and inequality constraints are locally Lipschitz, and the equality constraints are Fréchet differentiable. We study several constraint qualifications in the line of Maeda (J. Optim. Theory Appl. 80: 483–500, 1994) and, under the weakest ones, we establish strong Kuhn–Tucker necessary optimality conditions in terms of Clarke subdifferentials so that the multipliers of the objective functions are all positive.  相似文献

When applied to large-scale separable optimization problems, the recently developed surrogate subgradient method for Lagrangian relaxation (Zhao et al.: J. Optim. Theory Appl. 100, 699–712, 1999) does not need to solve optimally all the subproblems to update the multipliers, as the traditional subgradient method requires. Based on it, the penalty surrogate subgradient algorithm was further developed to address the homogenous solution issue (Guan et al.: J. Optim. Theory Appl. 113, 65–82, 2002; Zhai et al.: IEEE Trans. Power Syst. 17, 1250–1257, 2002). There were flaws in the proofs of Zhao et al., Guan et al., and Zhai et al.: for problems with inequality constraints, projection is necessary to keep the multipliers nonnegative; however, the effects of projection were not properly considered. This note corrects the flaw, completes the proofs, and asserts the correctness of the methods. A mixed-type dual for a nonsmooth multiobjective optimization problem with inequality and equality constraints is formulated. We obtain weak and strong duality theorems for a mixed-type dual without requiring the regularity assumptions and the nonnegativeness of the Lagrange multipliers associated to the equality constraints. We apply also a nonsmooth constraint qualification for multiobjective programming to establish strong duality results. In this case, our constraint qualification assures the existence of positive Lagrange multipliers associated with the vector-valued objective function. We examine two central regularization strategies for monotone variational inequalities, the first a direct regularization of the operative monotone mapping, and the second via regularization of the associated dual gap function. A key link in the relationship between the solution sets to these various regularized problems is the idea of exact regularization, which, in turn, is fundamentally associated with the existence of Lagrange multipliers for the regularized variational inequality. A regularization is said to be exact if a solution to the regularized problem is a solution to the unregularized problem for all parameters beyond a certain value. The Lagrange multipliers corresponding to a particular regularization of a variational inequality, on the other hand, are defined via the dual gap function. Our analysis suggests various conceptual, iteratively regularized numerical schemes, for which we provide error bounds, and hence stopping criteria, under the additional assumption that the solution set to the unregularized problem is what we call weakly sharp of order greater than one.  相似文献

A Modified Barrier-Augmented Lagrangian Method for Constrained Minimization   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
We present and analyze an interior-exterior augmented Lagrangian method for solving constrained optimization problems with both inequality and equality constraints. This method, the modified barrier—augmented Lagrangian (MBAL) method, is a combination of the modified barrier and the augmented Lagrangian methods. It is based on the MBAL function, which treats inequality constraints with a modified barrier term and equalities with an augmented Lagrangian term. The MBAL method alternatively minimizes the MBAL function in the primal space and updates the Lagrange multipliers. For a large enough fixed barrier-penalty parameter the MBAL method is shown to converge Q-linearly under the standard second-order optimality conditions. Q-superlinear convergence can be achieved by increasing the barrier-penalty parameter after each Lagrange multiplier update. We consider a dual problem that is based on the MBAL function. We prove a basic duality theorem for it and show that it has several important properties that fail to hold for the dual based on the classical Lagrangian.  相似文献

The paper addresses a primal interior point method for state-constrained PDE optimal control problems in function space. By a Lavrentiev regularization, the state constraint is transformed to a mixed control-state constraint with bounded Lagrange multiplier. Existence and convergence of the central path are established, and linear convergence of a short-step pathfollowing method is shown. The behaviour of the method is demonstrated by numerical examples. In many science and engineering applications, the discretization of linear ill-posed problems gives rise to large ill-conditioned linear systems with the right-hand side degraded by noise. The solution of such linear systems requires the solution of minimization problems with one quadratic constraint, depending on an estimate of the variance of the noise. This strategy is known as regularization. In this work, we propose a modification of the Lagrange method for the solution of the noise constrained regularization problem. We present the numerical results of test problems, image restoration and medical imaging denoising. Our results indicate that the proposed Lagrange method is effective and efficient in computing good regularized solutions of ill-conditioned linear systems and in computing the corresponding Lagrange multipliers. Moreover, our numerical experiments show that the Lagrange method is computationally convenient. Therefore, the Lagrange method is a promising approach for dealing with ill-posed problems. Abstract

This paper addresses a class of inequality constrained variational inequalities and nonsmooth unilateral variational problems. We present mixed formulations arising from Lagrange multipliers. First we treat in a reflexive Banach space setting the canonical case of a variational inequality that has as essential ingredients a bilinear form and a non-differentiable sublinear, hence convex functional and linear inequality constraints defined by a convex cone. We extend the famous Brezzi splitting theorem that originally covers saddle point problems with equality constraints, only, to these nonsmooth problems and obtain independent Lagrange multipliers in the subdifferential of the convex functional and in the ordering cone of the inequality constraints. For illustration of the theory we provide and investigate an example of a scalar nonsmooth boundary value problem that models frictional unilateral contact problems in linear elastostatics. Finally we discuss how this approach to mixed formulations can be further extended to variational problems with nonlinear operators and equilibrium problems, and moreover, to hemivariational inequalities.  相似文献

Generalized Nash games with shared constraints represent an extension of Nash games in which strategy sets are coupled across players through a shared or common constraint. The equilibrium conditions of such a game can be compactly stated as a quasi-variational inequality (QVI), an extension of the variational inequality (VI). In (Eur. J. Oper. Res. 54(1):81–94, 1991), Harker proved that for any QVI, under certain conditions, a solution to an appropriately defined VI solves the QVI. This is a particularly important result, given that VIs are generally far more tractable than QVIs. However Facchinei et al. (Oper. Res. Lett. 35(2):159–164, 2007) suggested that the hypotheses of this result are difficult to satisfy in practice for QVIs arising from generalized Nash games with shared constraints. We investigate the applicability of Harker’s result for these games with the aim of formally establishing its reach. Specifically, we show that if Harker’s result is applied in a natural manner, its hypotheses are impossible to satisfy in most settings, thereby supporting the observations of Facchinei et al. But we also show that an indirect application of the result extends the realm of applicability of Harker’s result to all shared-constraint games. In particular, this avenue allows us to recover as a special case of Harker’s result, a result provided by Facchinei et al. (Oper. Res. Lett. 35(2):159–164, 2007), in which it is shown that a suitably defined VI provides a solution to the QVI of a shared-constraint game.  相似文献

Various characterizations of optimal solution sets of cone-constrained convex optimization problems are given. The results are expressed in terms of subgradients and Lagrange multipliers. We establish first that the Lagrangian function of a convex program is constant on the optimal solution set. This elementary property is then used to derive various simple Lagrange multiplier-based characterizations of the solution set. For a finite-dimensional convex program with inequality constraints, the characterizations illustrate that the active constraints with positive Lagrange multipliers at an optimal solution remain active at all optimal solutions of the program. The results are applied to derive corresponding Lagrange multiplier characterizations of the solution sets of semidefinite programs and fractional programs. Specific examples are given to illustrate the nature of the results.  相似文献

The numerical solution of nonlinear equation systems is often achieved by so-called quasi-Newton methods. They preserve the rapid local convergence of Newton’s method at a significantly reduced cost per step by successively approximating the system Jacobian though low-rank updates. We analyze two variants of the recently proposed adjoint Broyden update, which for the first time combines the classical least change property with heredity on affine systems. However, the new update does require, the evaluation of so-called adjoint vectors, namely products of the transposed Jacobian with certain dual direction vectors. The resulting quasi-Newton method is linear contravariant in the sense of Deuflhard (Newton methods for nonlinear equations. Springer, Heidelberg, 2006) and it is shown here to be locally and q-superlinearly convergent. Our numerical results on a range of test problems demonstrate that the new method usually outperforms Newton’s and Broyden’s method in terms of runtime and iterations count, respectively. This article concerns second-order necessary conditions for an abnormal local minimizer of a nonlinear optimization problem with equality and inequality constraints. The obtained optimality conditions improve the ones available in the literature in that the associated set of Lagrange multipliers is the smallest possible. In this paper,a quasidifferentiable programming problem with inequality constraintsis considered. First,a general form of optimality conditions for this problem is glven, which contains the results of Luderer,Kuntz and Scholtes. Next,a new generalized K-T condition is derived. The new optimality condition doesn‘t use Luderer‘s regularity assumption and ita Lagrangian multipliers don‘t depend on the particular elements in the superdifferentials of the object function and constraint functions, Finally,a penalty function for the prohlem is studied. Sufficient conditions of the penalty function attaining a global minimum are obtained.  相似文献

Stabilized SQP revisited   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The stabilized version of the sequential quadratic programming algorithm (sSQP) had been developed in order to achieve superlinear convergence in situations when the Lagrange multipliers associated to a solution are not unique. Within the framework of Fischer (Math Program 94:91–124, 2002), the key to local superlinear convergence of sSQP are the following two properties: upper Lipschitzian behavior of solutions of the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) system under canonical perturbations and local solvability of sSQP subproblems with the associated primal-dual step being of the order of the distance from the current iterate to the solution set of the unperturbed KKT system. According to Fernández and Solodov (Math Program 125:47–73, 2010), both of these properties are ensured by the second-order sufficient optimality condition (SOSC) without any constraint qualification assumptions. In this paper, we state precise relationships between the upper Lipschitzian property of solutions of KKT systems, error bounds for KKT systems, the notion of critical Lagrange multipliers (a subclass of multipliers that violate SOSC in a very special way), the second-order necessary condition for optimality, and solvability of sSQP subproblems. Moreover, for the problem with equality constraints only, we prove superlinear convergence of sSQP under the assumption that the dual starting point is close to a noncritical multiplier. Since noncritical multipliers include all those satisfying SOSC but are not limited to them, we believe this gives the first superlinear convergence result for any Newtonian method for constrained optimization under assumptions that do not include any constraint qualifications and are weaker than SOSC. In the general case when inequality constraints are present, we show that such a relaxation of assumptions is not possible. We also consider applying sSQP to the problem where inequality constraints are reformulated into equalities using slack variables, and discuss the assumptions needed for convergence in this approach. We conclude with consequences for local regularization methods proposed in (Izmailov and Solodov SIAM J Optim 16:210–228, 2004; Wright SIAM J. Optim. 15:673–676, 2005). In particular, we show that these methods are still locally superlinearly convergent under the noncritical multiplier assumption, weaker than SOSC employed originally.  相似文献

A two-level decomposition method for nonconvex separable optimization problems with additional local constraints of general inequality type is presented and thoroughly analyzed in the paper. The method is of primal-dual type, based on an augmentation of the Lagrange function. Previous methods of this type were in fact three-level, with adjustment of the Lagrange multipliers at one of the levels. This level is eliminated in the present approach by replacing the multipliers by a formula depending only on primal variables and Kuhn-Tucker multipliers for the local constraints. The primal variables and the Kuhn-Tucker multipliers are together the higher-level variables, which are updated simultaneously. Algorithms for this updating are proposed in the paper, together with their convergence analysis, which gives also indications on how to choose penalty coefficients of the augmented Lagrangian. Finally, numerical examples are presented.  相似文献

We define a discrete Laplace–Beltrami operator for simplicial surfaces (Definition 16). It depends only on the intrinsic geometry of the surface and its edge weights are positive. Our Laplace operator is similar to the well known finite-elements Laplacian (the so called “cotan formula”) except that it is based on the intrinsic Delaunay triangulation of the simplicial surface. This leads to new definitions of discrete harmonic functions, discrete mean curvature, and discrete minimal surfaces. The definition of the discrete Laplace–Beltrami operator depends on the existence and uniqueness of Delaunay tessellations in piecewise flat surfaces. While the existence is known, we prove the uniqueness. Using Rippa’s Theorem we show that, as claimed, Musin’s harmonic index provides an optimality criterion for Delaunay triangulations, and this can be used to prove that the edge flipping algorithm terminates also in the setting of piecewise flat surfaces. We consider a class of optimization problems with switch-off/switch-on constraints, which is a relatively new problem model. The specificity of this model is that it contains constraints that are being imposed (switched on) at some points of the feasible region, while being disregarded (switched off) at other points. This seems to be a potentially useful modeling paradigm, that has been shown to be helpful, for example, in optimal topology design. The fact that some constraints “vanish” from the problem at certain points, gave rise to the name of mathematical programs with vanishing constraints (MPVC). It turns out that such problems are usually degenerate at a solution, but are structurally different from the related class of mathematical programs with complementarity constraints (MPCC). In this paper, we first discuss some known first- and second-order necessary optimality conditions for MPVC, giving new very short and direct justifications. We then derive some new special second-order sufficient optimality conditions for these problems and show that, quite remarkably, these conditions are actually equivalent to the classical/standard second-order sufficient conditions in optimization. We also provide a sensitivity analysis for MPVC. Finally, a relaxation method is proposed. For this method, we analyze constraints regularity and boundedness of the Lagrange multipliers in the relaxed subproblems, derive a sufficient condition for local uniqueness of solutions of subproblems, and give convergence estimates. We consider a special case of the directed subgraph homeomorphism or topological minor problem, where the host graph has a specific regular structure. Given an acyclic directed pattern graph, we are looking for a host graph of minimal height which still allows for an embedding. This problem has applications in compiler design for certain coarse-grain reconfigurable architectures. In this application domain, the task is to simultaneously schedule, bind and route a so-called data-flow graph, where vertices represent operations and arcs stand for data dependencies between the operations, given an orthogonal grid structure of reconfigurable processing elements (PEs) that have restricted communication abilities. We show that the problem of simultaneously scheduling, binding and routing is NP-complete by describing a logic engine reduction from NAE-3-SAT. This result holds even when the input graph is a directed tree with maximum indegree two. We also give a |V|3/2-approximation algorithm. J. A.
