I discuss different formulations of the relativistic few-body problem with an emphasis on how they are related. I first discuss the implications of some of the differences with non-relativistic quantum mechanics. Then I point out that the principle of special relativity in quantum mechanics implies that the quantum theory has a Poincaré symmetry, which is realized by a unitary representation of the Poincaré group. This representation can always be decomposed into direct integrals of irreducible representations and the different formulations differ only in how these irreducible representations are realized. I discuss how these representations appear in different formulations of relativistic quantum mechanics and discuss some applications in each of these frameworks.  相似文献

Semiclassical treatment of the tunneling through a multi-dimensional potential barrier is given. We discuss first about methods to calculate the minimum action trajectory. Next, we discuss the adiabatic approximation to the minimum action trajectory. We apply these two methods to the calculation of spontaneous fission. Persistence in spatially extended dynamical systems (e.g., coarsening and other nonequilibrium systems) is reviewed. We discuss, in particular, the spatial correlations in the persistent regions and their evolution in time. We also discuss the dependence of the persistence behavior on the dynamics of the system, and consider the specific example of different updating rules in the temporal evolution of the system. Finally, we discuss the universal behavior shown by persistence in various stochastic models belonging to the directed percolation universality class.  相似文献

In this article we discuss the physical principles behind new quantum devices and materials that require some form of nanoscale fabrication. The two systems we discuss are superconducting quantum circuits and nanomechanical resonators. Both systems involve many-body systems of a special kind in which particular collective degrees of freedom can be factored out of the microscopic dynamics and subject to quantum control. We theoretically introduce the statistical uncertainty of photon number and phase error to discuss the precision of parameters to be measured based on weak measurements. When the photon counting scheme is used, we discuss the relative accuracy of the system in the presence of phase error by using the orthogonal and nonorthogonal pre-and postselected states, respectively. When using the measurement scheme of pointer shift, we discuss the measurement accuracy in the presence of phase error, pointer resolution, and statistical uncertainty. These results give a guide way to get the smallest relative precision and deepen our understanding about weak measurement.  相似文献

With the solar and SN87 neutrino observations as proofs of concepts, the kilometer-scale neutrino experiment IceCube will scrutinize its data for new particle physics. In this paper, we review the prospects for the realization of such a program. We begin with a short overview of the detector response and discuss the reach of “beam” luminosity. After that we discuss the potential of IceCube to probe deviations of neutrino-nucleon cross-sections from the Standard Model predictions at center-of-mass energies well beyond those accessible in man-made accelerators. Then we review the prospects for extremely long-baseline analyses and discuss the sensitivity to measure tiny deviations of the flavor mixing angle, expected to be induced by quantum gravity effects. Finally, we discuss the potential to uncover annihilation of dark matter particles gravitationally trapped at the center of the Sun, as well as processes occurring in the early Universe at energies close to the Grand Unification scale.  相似文献

In this paper we built a relation between the thermodynamical theory of the phase transition and field theory. We emphasized that in the quantum field theory we have to introduce the order parameter fields. Then the discussion of the phase transition is closed to the creation of the Goldstone bosons. If we only discuss the first order transition, the Goldstone bosons fields are sufficient. If we want to discuss the second order transition, we have to discuss a set of fields that constructs a representation of a symmetry group. The purpose of this report is to describe some recent progress in applying scaling concepts to various systems in nature. We review several systems characterized by scaling laws such as DNA sequences, heartbeat rates and weather variations. We discuss the finding that the exponent alpha quantifying the scaling in DNA in smaller for coding than for noncoding sequences. We also discuss the application of fractal scaling analysis to the dynamics of heartbeat regulation, and report the recent finding that the scaling exponent alpha is smaller during sleep periods compared to wake periods. We also discuss the recent findings that suggest a universal scaling exponent characterizing the weather fluctuations.  相似文献

We discuss the feature of the magnetic field configuration arising from double counter oriented electric currentrings in the accretion disc around a Kerr black hole (BH). We discuss the relevant physical quantities corresponding to this configuration: (1) the power and torque transferred by the large-scale magnetic field, (2) the angular momentum and energy fluxes transferred from the BIt to the inner disc, (3) the radiation flux from the disc. In addition, we discuss the possibility that the closed magnetic field anchored at the disc probably evolves to the open magnetic field, which is helpful to produce the jet from the disc.  相似文献
