By employing the univariate series expansion of classical hypergeometric series formulae, Shen [L.-C. Shen, Remarks on some integrals and series involving the Stirling numbers and ζ(n), Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 347 (1995) 1391-1399] and Choi and Srivastava [J. Choi, H.M. Srivastava, Certain classes of infinite series, Monatsh. Math. 127 (1999) 15-25; J. Choi, H.M. Srivastava, Explicit evaluation of Euler and related sums, Ramanujan J. 10 (2005) 51-70] investigated the evaluation of infinite series related to generalized harmonic numbers. More summation formulae have systematically been derived by Chu [W. Chu, Hypergeometric series and the Riemann Zeta function, Acta Arith. 82 (1997) 103-118], who developed fully this approach to the multivariate case. The present paper will explore the hypergeometric series method further and establish numerous summation formulae expressing infinite series related to generalized harmonic numbers in terms of the Riemann Zeta function ζ(m) with m=5,6,7, including several known ones as examples.  相似文献

In this paper, we describe the H-differentials of some well known NCP functions and their merit functions. We show how, under appropriate conditions on an H-differential of f, minimizing a merit function corresponding to f leads to a solution of the nonlinear complementarity problem. Our results give a unified treatment of such results for C 1-functions, semismooth-functions, and locally Lipschitzian functions. Illustrations are given to show the usefulness of our results. We present also a result on the global convergence of a derivative-free descent algorithm for solving the nonlinear complementarity problem. The first author is deeply indebted to Professor M. Seetharama Gowda for his numerous helpful suggestions and encouragement. Special thanks to Professor J.-P. Crouzeix and an anonymous referees for their constructive suggestions which led to numerous improvements in the paper. We give a new proof of a theorem of Zudilin that equates a very-well-poised hypergeometric series and a particular multiple integral. This integral generalizes integrals of Vasilenko and Vasilyev which were proposed as tools in the study of the arithmetic behaviour of values of the Riemann zeta function at integers. Our proof is based on limiting cases of a basic hypergeometric identity of Andrews. Dedicated to Richard Askey on the occasion of his 70th birthday. We introduce the concept of θ-derivations on JB*-triples and prove the Hyers–Ulam-Rassias stability of θ-derivations on JB*-triples. We deal with the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability that was first introduced by Th. M. Rassias in the paper “On the stability of the linear mapping in Banach spaces, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 72 (1978), 297–300”. The first author was supported by Korea Research Foundation Grant KRF-2005-070-C00009.  相似文献

B.C. Berndt (J. Reine Angew. Math. 272:182–193, 1975; 304:332–365, 1978) has derived a number of new transformation formulas, in particular, the transformation formulae of the logarithms of the classical theta functions, by using a transformation formula for a more general class of Eisenstein series. In this paper, we continue his study. By using a transformation formula for a class of twisted generalized Eisenstein series, we generalize a transformation formula given by J. Lehner (Duke Math. J. 8:631–655, 1941) and give a new proof for transformation formulas proved by Y. Yang (Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 36:671–682, 2004). The Gamma function and its n th logarithmic derivatives (that is, the polygamma or the psi‐functions) have found many interesting and useful applications in a variety of subjects in pure and applied mathematics. Here we mainly apply these functions to treat convolutions of the Rayleigh functions by recalling a general identity expressing a certain class of series as psi‐functions and to evaluate a class of log‐sine integrals in an algorithmic way. We also evaluate some Euler sums and give much simpler psi‐function expressions for some known parameterized multiple sums (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We study inverse nodal problems for the second order differential operators on a star-type graph satisfying the standard matching conditions at the interior vertex. We prove uniqueness theorems and obtain a constructive solution to the inverse problems of this class. Original Russian Text Copyright ? 2009 Yurko V. A. The multiple gamma function Γn, defined by a recurrence-functional equation as a generalization of the Euler gamma function, was originally introduced by Kinkelin, Glaisher, and Barnes around 1900. Today, due to the pioneer work of Conrey, Katz and Sarnak, interest in the multiple gamma function has been revived. This paper discusses some theoretical aspects of the Γn function and their applications to summation of series and infinite products. This work was supported by NFS grant CCR-0204003.2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary—33E20, 33F99, 11M35, 11B73  相似文献

Cord-slope form of Taylor's expansion in univariate global optimization   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Interval arithmetic and Taylor's formula can be used to bound the slope of the cord of a univariate function at a given point. This leads in turn to bounding the values of the function itself. Computing such bounds for the function, its first and second derviatives, allows the determination of intervals in which this function cannot have a global minimum. Exploiting this information together with a simple branching rule yields an efficient algorithm for global minimization of univariate functions. Computational experience is reported. The first and second authors have been supported by FCAR (Fonds pour la Formation de Chercheurs et l'Aide à la Recherche) Grant 92EQ1048 and AFOSR Grant 90-0008 to Rutgers University. Summary It is shown that, under statistical equilibrium, no stream in the M/M/1 feedback queue of Jackson [7], besides the exogenous input and the final output, is poissonian. The proof relies on martingale methods, especially the filtering formulas of [1].Work supported in part by Army Research Office Grant No. DAAG29-75-G-0189 and National Science Foundation Grant No. SOC76-80333, while the author was visiting the Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at U.C. We study the exact controllability problem for a ring under stretching tension that varies in time. We are looking for a couple of forces, which drive the state solution to rest. We show that applying two forces is necessary for controllability and the ring is controllable in the time interval greater than the optical length of the string. We also explain why one force would not be enough to control the ring. We use the method of moments to reduce the controllability problem to a moment problem for the controlling forces. The solution of that problem is based on an auxiliary basis property result. Both method of moments and proof of the basis property are developed for the model with time-dependent parameters. We study the Clarke–Rockafellar directional derivatives of the regularized gap functions (and of some modified ones) for the variational inequality problem (VIP) defined by a locally Lipschitz but not necessarily differentiable function on a closed convex set in an Euclidean space. As applications we show that, under the strong monotonicity assumption, the regularized gap functions have fractional exponent error bounds and consequently that the sequences provided by an algorithm of Armijo type converge to the solution of the (VIP). We study the problem of characterizing Hankel–Schur multipliers and Toeplitz–Schur multipliers of Schatten–von Neumann class for . We obtain various sharp necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for a Hankel matrix to be a Schur multiplier of . We also give a characterization of the Hankel–Schur multipliers of whos e symbols have lacunary power series. Then the results on Hankel–Schur multipliers are used to obtain a characterization of the Toeplitz–Schur multipliers of . Finally, we return to Hankel–Schur multipliers and obtain new results in the case when the symbol of the Hankel matrix is a complex measure on the unit circle. This paper introduces the concept of a D-analogue. This is a Dirichlet series analogue for the already known and well researched hypergeometric q-series, often called the basic hypergeometric series. The main result in this paper is a transform, based on an Euler product over the primes. Examples given are D-analogues of the q-binomial theorem and the q-Gauss summation. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification Primary—11M41; Secondary—33D15, 30B50  相似文献
