Trimethoprim malate, an organic crystal, has been synthesized using slow evaporation method from its aqueous solution. Structural, optical and the mechanical properties of the grown crystal have been investigated by various characterization techniques which include FTIR spectra, single crystal XRD, UV‐Vis spectra and Vickers microhardness testing. The structure of the compound predicted by analysing the recorded FTIR spectrum compliments the structure determined using single crystal X‐ray diffraction. Single crystal X‐ray diffraction study reveals that the crystals are monoclinic [P21/c, a=12.9850 Å, b=9.3038 Å, c=15.6815 Å and β=111.065°]. The UV‐Vis spectrum exhibits maximum transparency (98%) for a wide range suggesting the suitability of the title compound for optical applications. The optical constants have been calculated and illustrated graphically. Microhardness tests have been performed on the cystal under study and the Vicker hardness number has been calculated. The work hardening coefficient is found to be 2.85 which suggest that the crystal belongs to the family of soft materials. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

A new nonlinear optical material L‐arginine maleate dihydrate, C6H14N4O2,C4H4O4,2H2O (LAMD) was synthesized and single crystals were grown by slow cooling and also by slow evaporation method at constant temperature from its aqueous solution. Quality and size of the crystals are found to be dependent on pH of the solution and best crystals were obtained at pH = 4. Single crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis reveal that the crystal lattice of LAMD is triclinic with unit cell parameters a = 5.264(3)Å, b = 8.039(3)Å, c = 9.784(3)Å, α = 106.19(3)°, β = 97.24(3)°, γ = 101.66(2)°. Second harmonic generation efficiency is found to be about 6.8 times that of quartz. It is optically transparent down to 300 nm and possesses a large optical window between 300–2000 nm. The compound is thermally stable up to 93.4 °C. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Single crystals of zinc magnesium tetra thiocyanate [ZnMg(SCN)4], a bimetallic thiocyanate complex, were grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique at room temperature. The bright, transparent and colourless crystals have well defined faces. The grown crystals were characterized through elemental analysis, powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA), differential scanning calorimetric analysis (DSC), Fourier Transform Infra red (FTIR) and Optical studies. The elemental analysis confirms the stoichiometry of the synthesized crystals. The compound crystallizes under monoclinic structure with lattice parameters a = 10.055 Å, b = 7.44 Å, c = 6.00 Å and β = 90.113°. The TGA indicates 25 % weight loss at 205°C from which the decomposition pattern is formulated. The DSC study indicates that the crystal undergoes only first order phase transitions. The FTIR spectrum indicates among others the presence of metal‐nitrogen and metal‐sulphur bonds thus confirming the formation of the complex. The second harmonic‐generation (SHG) was confirmed by the emission of green radiation using Nd: YAG laser. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

A potentially useful semiorganic nonlinear optical (NLO) material, L‐arginine perchlorate, has been synthesized and bulk crystals have been grown by slow cooling technique. The grown crystals were characterized by single crystal X‐ray diffraction, UV‐Vis‐NIR spectroscopy, FT‐IR, thermal analysis and SHG measurements. The grown crystals were thermally stable upto 153°C and exhibit SHG efficiency of about 0.17 with respect of Urea. The etching studies have been carried out on the grown crystal. LAPC has good optical transmission not only in the visible range, however, also in the near UV part of the spectra and hence it is a potential material for nonlinear frequency conversion. The refractive index was measured by the Brewster's angle method. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

L‐arginine hydrochloride monohydrate (LAHCl.H2O) has been synthesized and single crystals have been grown from its aqueous solution by slow evaporation and slow cooling methods. The solubility of the material was measured at various temperatures and bulk crystals of size 26×13×11 mm3 have been grown by optimizing the growth parameters. The grown crystals have been subjected to single crystal XRD studies to confirm the structure and to estimate the lattice parameters. FTIR analysis indicate the mode of vibrations of different molecular groups present in LAHCl and confirm the protonation of guanidyl, amino groups and deprotonation of COO groups. UV‐Vis transmission spectrum revealed the linear optical properties of the grown crystals with a transparency of 65% over the entire visible range upto 300 nm. Thermal behavior of the grown crystal was investigated from DTA and TGA measurements. Dielectric studies have been carried out on the grown crystals. Kurtz and Perry powder SHG technique confirms the NLO property of the grown crystal. The SHG efficiency of LAHCl was found to be 0.38 with respect to KDP. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Semi organic crystals have been intensively studied aiming applications in nonlinear optical (NLO). Such applicability requires crystals with both high quality and thermal stability, which make the full characterization of this material a topic issue. In this paper, single crystals of L‐isoleucine hydrochloride monohydrated (L‐Ile.H2O.HCl) was synthesized by slow evaporation technique and characterized by thermal analysis and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. XRD results at 298 K showed that the sample crystallize with the orthorhombic structure, and the lattice parameters obtained by Rietveld refinement were a = 5.873(3) Å, b = 24.814(4) Å, and c = 6.873(5) Å. Thermal analysis measurements shows four decomposition stages between 328 ‐480 K which were associated with loss of water by desolvation, loss crystallization water and decomposition of L‐Ile.HCl. XRD measurements as a function of temperature up to 428 K show an irreversible phase transformation. This transformation was obtained after 32 hours keeping the L‐Ile.HCl.H2O sample at 413 K. The analysis shows that phase transformation occurs due to water and chlorine losses without destroy the amino acid carbon chain and in the end of transformation only the precursor amino acid remains. L‐Ile.HCl.H2O present low thermal stability and the phase transformation is time and temperature dependent.  相似文献

A new quadratic nonlinear optical crystal, 2‐amino‐3‐nitropyridinium trichloroacetate (2A3NPTCA), was synthesized and the single crystals were grown by slow evaporation method at room temperature. Single crystal X‐ray diffraction and powder X‐ray diffraction experiments were carried out in order to confirm the structure and crystalline nature of 2A3NPTCA crystal. The chemical bonding and various functional groups present in the 2A3NPTCA were identified from FT‐IR spectrum. The UV–visible–NIR transmission spectrum shows that it is suitable for frequency‐converting in the wavelength region of 431–1200 nm. Thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were carried out to characterize the thermal behaviors of the grown crystals. Kurtz and Perry powder method for second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements demonstrate that 2A3NPTCA is a phase matching material and its nonlinear optical efficiency is two times that of KDP. All the above results suggest that 2A3NPTCA is a potential candidate of NLO material.  相似文献

The grown crystals were characterized by powder X‐ray diffraction analyses to confirm the crystal structure. The presence of functional groups and the coordination of metal ions to thiourea were confirmed by FTIR and Raman spectroscopy analyses. Tetrathioureacopper(I) chloride, hereafter abbreviated as TCC, was synthesised and single crystals were obtained from saturated aqueous solution by slow evaporation (solution growth) method at room temperature. The crystals obtained are bright, colourless and transparent having well defined external faces. The grown crystals were characterized through elemental analysis, single crystal X‐ray diffraction study, thermal analysis, electron spin resonance spectroscopy and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy. The elemental analysis confirms the stoichiometry of the compound. The single crystal diffraction studies indicate that TCC crystallises in the tetragonal lattice and the unit cell parameters are a = b = 13.4082 Å, c = 13.8074 Å, V = 2482.29 Å3, α = β = γ = 90°. Space group and the number of molecules per unit cell (Z) are found to be P41212 and 8 respectively. The TG curve of the sample shows a prolonged decomposition from 210 to 628.3 °C, from which the decomposition pattern has been formulated. The endothermic peaks in the DTA curve indicate melting and decomposition of the compound at 165.2 and 633.8 °C respectively. An exothermic peak in high temperature DSC indicates a phase transition in the compound at 274.8 °C. Thermal anomalies observed in the low temperature DSC at –163.3, –152.0, –141.5, –108.3, 1.0 and 12.1 °C in the heating run and –157.1 and –153.9 °C in the cooling run reveal first order phase transitions in the crystal. The peaks observed at –146.2 °C in both the heating and cooling runs suggest occurrence of a second order phase transition in this compound. The IR spectroscopic data were used to assign the characteristic vibrational frequencies of various groups present in the compound. The ESR study confirms that the copper is in the +1 oxidation state in the complex. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献
