A possibility is considered of detecting Planckian particles carrying an electric charge Z≈10 and supposedly forming the dark matter of the Galactic disk, whence they are captured by combined action of the Sun and the Earth into strongly elongated Earth-crossing orbits. The flux of such dark electric matter objects, daemons, at the Earth’s orbit may reach f ≈3×10−7cm−2s−1 at a velocity about 52 km/s. Negatively charged daemons are capable of catalyzing the fusion of light (Z n<10) nuclei. The rate of capture (and fusion) of nuclei should be particularly high in a metallic phase. A detection system is described that consists of beryllium plates 45 mm thick and 1200 cm2 in area coated with a ZnS(Ag) scintillator. It is assumed that the products of the fusion reaction 29Be → 18O that are ejected in amounts of up to about 104 from the points of daemon entrance and exit would give rise to scintillations with a delay of about 1μs. An exposure of the system for 300 h revealed no event. The reason for the negative result can be (1) too optimistic an estimate of the flux (the inclusion of some factors could lower it by 1.5–3 orders of magnitude) and (2) the poisoning of the catalyst by capture of nuclei with Z n≥10. The time required for the recovery of the daemon catalytic properties is estimated from the analysis of the energy release in the Sun at no less than 3×10−7 s. The analysis of the total available data suggests that the daemon flux at the Earth is about 3×10−8 cm−2 s−1. The experiments will be continued. The viscous flow of magnetic vortices in granular YBaCuO ceramics of various granule sizes is investigated using the microwave absorption method (f=80 MHz) in the range of varying magnetic fields H=±1500 Oe and of temperatures T=77 to 95 K. The conditions for the formation and melting of the vortex lattice, as well as the transition of the high-temperature superconductor (HTSC) state from the irreversibility region to the region of the viscous flow of magnetic vortices, are considered. The rapid magnetic relaxation times in the range τ=72 to 111 ms are determined from the magnetization relaxation in the HTSC materials under investigation depending on the granule size d, which varies from 1 to 30 μm. The experimental results on the variation of the relaxation time τ from 77 to 120 ms in a ceramic exposed to fast neutrons with various fluences (Φ=1016 to 1019 cm−2) are considered. The neutron multiplicity M spectrum was measured at the neutron monitor installed in the underground room of the Tien Shan high-altitude station (3340 m above sea level) of the Lebedev Physical Institute under a ground layer 20 m of water equivalent thick. To a first approximation, the differential multiplicity spectrum is power-law: dN/dM = 0.3 · M−3.7m−2s−1. The spectrum intensity is lower than the intensity of events in the ground-based NM64 supermonitor by a factor of 350–450. The spectrum slope exponent γ + 1 = 3.7 ± 0.1 is identical to the exponent of the energy spectrum of bremsstrahlung gamma-rays of energetic muons (above 1 TeV) generated in a lead absorber of the monitor. In this case, the experimental intensity is hundred times higher than the expected intensity of events from muon bremsstrahlung. The spatial distribution of neutrons in the monitor suggests that they are produced by single particles. The temporal distribution of neutrons in the monitor is exponential with lifetime constant τ = 360 − 390 μs. Difficulties are indicated in the interpretation of the multiplicity spectrum by electromagnetic and nuclear interactions of muons in the monitor without involving new penetrating particles. The dynamics of accumulation of electrically active radiation defects under ion doping of epitaxial Cd x Hg 1−x Te films is studied for various distributions of film composition in the implantation region. The epitaxial films were irradiated by boron ions at room temperature in the continuous regime, with the dose ranging within 1011−3·1015 cm−2, energy — 20–150 keV, and ion current density — j = 0.001–0.2 μA·cm−2. It is found that the natural logarithm of the introduction rate of electrically active radiation defects linearly depends on the epitaxial-film composition in the range of mean projected path of implanted ions. Results are presented from an experimental investigation of the properties of the plasma produced by the action of a radiation pulse at the second harmonic of a Nd laser, with average intensity ~5·1014 W/cm2 in the focal spot, on flat targets consisting of porous polypropylene (CH)x with an average density of 0.02 g/cm3 (close to the critical plasma density) and with ~50 μm pores. The properties of the laser plasma obtained with porous and continuous targets are substantially different. The main differences are volume absorption of the laser radiation in the porous material and much larger spatial scales of energy transfer. The experimentally measured longitudinal ablation velocity in the porous material was equal to (1.5–3)·107 cm/s, which corresponds to a mass velocity of (3–6)·105 g/cm2· s, and the transverse (with respect to the direction of the laser beam) propagation velocity of the thermal wave was equal to ~(1–2) ·107 cm/s. We have studied the nonlinearity of the refractive index at a wavelength of 1.08 μm for optical lead silicate and lead phosphate tellurite glasses of different compositions. We have shown that the nonlinear refractive index n2 increases as the lead content increases in lead silicate glasses and as the tellurium content increases in lead phosphate tellurite glasses, where the latter are typically have higher values of n2, as high as 24·10−13 cgs units (47·10−16 cm2/W), and lower Rayleigh losses. We have established a correlation between the nonlinear refractive index and the microstructure of the studied glasses. Radiation-stimulated interfacial gas release in an Ag-glass thin-film system is investigated. It is established that under proton irradiation hydrogen accumulates in bubbles, which are the interfacial gas reservoirs, at the interface. The gas bubbles formed are studied and their parameters are determined by optical microinterferometry. It is shown that 15–50 μm in radius bubbles contain 2×109–2×1011 hydrogen molecules. Mg1−x CuxO solid solutions having an NaCl structure with 0⩽x⩽0.20 are synthesized and Cu-Mg1−x CuxO structures are prepared for superconductivity studies. The magnetic susceptibility χ, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and electrical conductivity of the solid solutions are studied at temperatures of 5–550 K. It is shown that χ −1(T) obeys the Curie-Weiss law with a paramagnetic Curie temperature Θ close to zero and an effective magnetic moment μ eff=1.9 μ B, close to the 1.73 μ B of a Cu2+ ion with spin S=1/2. The width ΔH of the EPR line depends weakly on temperature and increases as x is raised. The volume narrowing of the EPR linewidth ΔH is used to estimate the exchange interaction parameter, 3×10−4 eV. The g-factor is close to 2 and is temperature independent. The electrical conductivity of Mg1−x CuxO at T=300 K is ≈10−11–10−12−1 cm−1 for x=0 and increases to 10−5–10−6−1 cm−1 for x=0.15–0.20. The conductivity is p-type. Magnetic shielding is observed in Cu-Mg1−x CuxO structures with x=0.15 and 0.20. The possible connection of this phenomenon with interference superconductivity in the contact layer of the structure is discussed. Fiz. Tverd. The results of experimental investigations of gallium arsenide single crystals with the orientations (100), (311)A, (211)A, (111)A, and (221)A are presented. The crystals were doped with silicon ions on the Iolla-3M setup (ion energy 75 keV, ion beam density 1 μA/cm2, implantation dose 1.2×103 cm−2) at room temperature and annealed on the Impul’s-5 setup at 950°C. Raman scattering and low-temperature photoluminescence methods established that the highest electrical activity of the implanted silicon under identical implantation and annealing conditions obtains for (100) and (311)A gallium arsenide. The results of an investigation of the electromagnetic wave polarization, probing high-temperature laser plasma, as well as spatial-temporal structure of the magnetic fields, electron density, current density, and electron drift velocity are presented. To create the plasma, plane massive Al targets were irradiated with the second harmonic of a phoenix Nd laser at intensities up to 5·1014 W/cm2. It was shown that the magnetooptical Faraday effect is the main mechanism responsible for the changing polarization of the probing wave. Magnetic fields up to 0.4 MG with electron densities ∼1020 cm−3 were measured. Analysis of the magnetic field spatial distribution showed that the current density achieved the value ∼90 MA/cm2 on the laser axis. The radial structure of the magnetic field testified to the availability of the reversed current in the laser plasma. LiMn2O4 films have been deposited onto silicon wafer by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) technique in order to test their reliability as cathode materials in rechargeable lithium microbatteries. The film formation has been studied as a function of the preparation conditions, i.e., composition of the target, substrate temperature, and oxygen partial pressure in the deposition chamber. Depending on the conditions of deposition, Mn2O3 was present as an impurity phase. When deposited onto silicon substrate maintained at 300 °C in an oxygen pressure of 100 mTorr from the target LiMn2O4+15 % Li2O, the PLD films are well-textured with crystallite size of 300 nm. It is found that such a film crystallizes in the spinel structure (Fd3m symmetry) as evidenced by x-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements. Surface morphologies of layers were investigated by SEM. The cells Li//LiMn2O4 have been tested by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge techniques in the range 3.0–4.2 V. The voltage profiles show the two expected steps for LixMn2O4 with a specific capacity as high as 120 mC/cm2 μm. The chemical diffusion coefficients for the LixMn2O4 thin films appear to be in the range of 10−11-10−12 cm2/s. Investigations of the generation and transport of a high-current, low-energy electron beam are performed in a system with a gas-filled diode based on a plasma cathode. At accelerating voltages of up to 20 kV and pressures of (1–5)×10−1 Pa, a beam with an emission current of 600 A, emission current density of 12 A/cm2 and pulse duration of 30 μs if obtained in a diode with a grid-stabilized emission opening having a diameter equal to 8 cm. The beam is transported in the absence of an external magnetic field over a distance of 20 cm. We study experimentally the frequency dependences of the refractive index n and the absorption coefficient k of distilled, sea, and river water. The measurements were performed using a quasioptical device with a backward-wave oscillator as the radiation source and OAP-7 optical-acoustic receivers at a water temperature of 27°C in the cell. The quantities n and k were determined from the measured transmission and reflection coefficients of the cell with water by means of joint numerical solution of the equations for these quantities. For distilled water in the frequency range f = 75–120 GHz, we obtained n = 6.142–3.926 · 10–2f[GHz] + 1.307 · 10–4(f[GHz])2 and k = 3.607–2.101 · 10−2 f[GHz] + 5.252 · 10–5(f[GHz])2. On the whole, these data are in good agreement with the measurement results obtained by other authors at several frequencies of the indicated range and coincide with the calculation data based on the models by Meissner and Wentz and by Liebe et al. within the limits of the rms determination errors 0.05 and 0.02 for the parameters n and k, respectively. The values of n and k for different seawater samples and river water containing insoluble admixtures coincide with the values of these quantities for distilled water within the limits of the experimental measurement errors 3–5% and 1–2%, respectively. The dependences n(f) and k(f) obtained experimentally for seawater are compared with those calculated on the basis of the developed models. Measurements of the transmission spectrum of a cell with double distilled water were performed for low power density of radiation (less than μW/cm2) to reproduce the effect of water resonant transparency reported many times in the literature. We present a SIS mixer developed for 200 – 250 GHz band receivers of Plateau de Bure Interferometer. We demonstrate the minimum DSB receiver noise of 20 K at 220 GHz. The average receiver noise of 25 K is possible in 200 – 250 GHz range. The receiver conversion gain and output noise instability of 10−4 on the time scale of 1 minute is comparable with the Shottky receivers performance. The minimum measured SIS mixer noise of about 10 K is close to the quantum limit. The waveguide SIS mixer with a single backshort has two junction array with inductively tuned junctions. The Nb/Al Oxide/Nb SIS junctions are 2.24 μm2 each with the Josephson critical current density of 3.2 KA/cm2. The thermal properties of the SIS mixer are studied. The mixer band of the low noise operation is in a good agreement with the design requirements.  相似文献

An attempt was made to describe and show the possibilities of new inorganic neodynium- and uranium-activated laser liquids: SO2-GaCl3-NdCl4; SO2Cl2-GaCl3-NdCl3-UO2Cl2; POCl2-MCln-NdCl3-UO2Cl2 for development and synthesis of direct nuclear reaction-excited lasers. Luminescence data presented in the work were used to calculate the luminescence parameters of the laser liquids such as oscillator strengths f, probability of spontaneous radiation A, intermultiplet luminescence branching coefficient β, cross-section for induced radiation σ, luminescence decay time τ, quantum yield η, and others. It is shown that the oscillator strengths of the normal absorption bands of Na3+, which play the main part in the pumping processes, exceed the oscillator strengths of Na3+ for aqueous and many other nonaqueous systems. In the luminescence excitation spectra of the Na3+ ion, bands are isolated in the range 400–1000 nm atλ rec =1.06 μm. With excitation, luminescence occurs through the4F3/24I9/2,11/2.13/2 channels. Luminescence spectral data are related to the lasing parameters. The threshold lasing energy is∼18 J/cm3. For a resonator with mirros h1=100% and h2=20, 40, 56, and 80%, the lasing energy is∼20–120 MJ/cm3 in the pumping energy range 18–180 J/cm3. The differential efficiency is ∼0.2% The substantial angular radiation divergence (θ∼4·10−2 rad) and strong thermostatic distortions that occur in the active element (dn/dT≈−1.9·10−4K−1) are a disadvantage of laser liquids. It is shown that operation of neodymium- and uranium-activated inorganic liquid lasers is stable under the present conditions. A. I. Thin layers of InN are grown by molecular beam epitaxy on (0001) sapphire substrates. The influence of thin (15 nm) InN buffer layers and their temperature treatment on the structural quality of the grown layers is investigated by double-crystal and triple-crystal x-ray diffractometry. It is revealed that the preliminary high-temperature (900°C) annealing of the buffer layer leads to a notable improvement in the quality of the layers grown on this buffer. The densities of vertical screw and vertical edge dislocations decrease (to 1.9×108 cm−2 and 1.3×1011 cm−2, respectively) with an increase in the distance from the interface (by ∼1 μm). __________ Translated from Fizika Tverdogo Tela, Vol. 43, No. 5, 2001, pp. 913–917. We report a technique for the efficient generation of tunable coherent deep UV radiation and its application in studies of RDX and TNT at the ppm level on the basis of their absorption characteristics. The obtained experimental absorption data are compared with conventional spectrophotometric data. The UV radiation in the range 200–260 nm has been generated by the type-I noncollinear third harmonic of the dye laser radiation (600–700 nm) and also by sum frequency mixing (SFM) of Nd:YAG output (1064 nm) with the second harmonic of the dye laser in β-barium borate (BBO) crystal. The maximum conversion efficiency of the generated signal is estimated to be 57.5% at λ = 218.9 nm wavelength. Apart from measurements of the absorbance of RDX and TNT at different concentrations in their respective solutions, the minimum detection concentrations have also been ascertained. The estimated minimum detectable concentration of RDX is 8.47·10−9 M, whereas that for TNT is 35.7·10−9 M. The data were obtained using only ∼100 μJ/pulse of laser energy. The self-organization of an electron-hole plasma (EHP) heated by an electric field in pure p-Ge samples at T = 77 K has been studied experimentally. The derived current-voltage characteristics (CVCs) and the distributions of the electric field and IR emission of the hot carriers along the samples show that the segments of a steep rise or the S-shaped segments of the CVCs in samples with n-p junctions are related to the formation of longitudinal thermal-diffusion autosolitons (AS); as a result, thin (d = 2–20 μm in diameter), melted-through current channels appear. Such AS are formed at high EHP densities (n ≥ 1 × 1016 cm−3), when the electron-hole scattering is dominant, and at electron temperatures T e = (2–4.5)T 0 (T 0 is the lattice temperature). The saturation segments and the N-shaped segments in the CVCs are attributable to the generation of transverse thermal-diffusion high-field autosolitons (AS) in the form of narrow strata with electric field strengths = 1–20 kV cm−1. High-field AS are formed at EHP densities n = 5 × 1013−1 × 1016 cm−3, when the electron-phonon scattering is dominant, and at electron temperatures T e ∼ Θ ≥ 5T 0 (Θ is the Debye temperature). The generated longitudinal and transverse autosolitons have high temperatures (T e ≥ 1000 K) and reduced carrier densities and can exist simultaneously in different parts of the sample. The B-site substituted perovskite solid solution systems Li3xLa0.67−xREyTi1−2yPyO3 (RE=Sc, Y, Nd, Sm, Eu, Yb) have been investigated. Perovskite solid solutions formed in the range of x=0.10, y<0.10 for RE=Sc3+, Y3+, Yb3+, x=0.10, y≤0.05 for RE=Nd3+, Sm3+, Eu3+. Li0.3La0.57Nd0.05Ti0.9P0.05O3 has the highest bulk conductivity of 4.31×10−4 S·cm−1 and the highest total conductivity of 2.52×10−4 S·cm−1 at room temperature in all prepared compositions. The compositions have low activation energies of about 24–30 kJ/mol in the temperature ranges of 298–523 K. SEM studies showed that the sample made by solid-state reaction has a sphere-like morphology and a rough particle with particle size of about 50 μm. The research results also indicated that the reaction temperature decreases and the electrochemical stabilities of the titanate-based perovskite-type solid solutions are improved by using RE3+ and P5+ replaced Ti4+ on B-site in the Li3xLa0.67−xTiO3 parent.  相似文献

In this study, the optical properties as well as mechanical and electrical degradation of low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/polypropylene fiber (PP fiber) (10–50% PP fiber), polypropylene (PP)/PP fiber (10–50% PP fiber), and LDPE/diamond (0.1–3% diamond) blends, which are prepared by hot pressing method, with changing thicknesses ranging from 30 to 225 μm, are compared. The spectra, in the wavelength range 200–2500 nm, are examined. Based on optical absorption spectra obtained, Tauc graphs are plotted. Determined values of the direct optical energy gap (E d opt ), the indirect optical energy gap (E i opt ), the width of the band (ΔE), and ultraviolet transmittance (TUV) are listed. The direct E d opt and indirect E i opt values for organic blends are in the range of 3.10–3.17 eV and 1.52–2.99 eV; for inorganic blends they are 1.80–4.13 eV and 1.55–4.7 eV respectively. The electrical strength (ε) and the mechanical tension (σ) have been investigated, and graphs (the dependence of the electrical life time log τε on ε) are given. The experimental results are analyzed from the viewpoint of the validity of the thermofluctuation theory. LDPE and LDPE/0.5% diamond composite parameters consecutively changed: σ from 68 to 82 MPa, ε from 60·106 to 85·106 V/m, mechanical lifetime τσ from 10 to 1.5·105 sec, electrical lifetime τε from 2· 103 to 2·105 sec, and structure-sensitive parameters γ and χ — from 1.48 to 1.18 (J)MPa/mole and from 0.97 to 0.70 (J)Vm−1/mole respectively. The values of mechanical and electrical durability were observed to increase by 20 and 41%, respectively, for LDPE/0.5% diamond composite.
