On acylating 2H-imidazole-4(3H)-thiones the orange to violet crystalline N-1-acyl-2H-imidazole-4(3H)-thiones1 a–18 a are formed, the thermal stability of which depends on the acyl group and the substituents in the heterocyclic ring system. Thus the N-aroyl-2,2,5-trimethyl-2H-imidazole-4(3H)-thiones13 a–16 a are stable on being heated to the melting point, while1 a–12 a are converted quantitatively to the corresponding S-aroyl-2H-imidazole-4-thiols1–12. Rearrangement is faster when the heterocyclic ring bears bulky substituents. The aliphatic N-acyl compounds17 a and18 a are thermally unstable. This N S acyl group migration, described here for the first time, is shown to proceed by an intermolecular mechanism.

By reaction of excess benzaldehyde with cyclohexene in presence of sulfuric acid besider-2,c-4-diphenyl-(t-4aH,c-8aH)-hexahydro-4H-1,3-benzodioxin (2) andr-4-phenyl-(t-4aH,c-8aH)-hexahydro-4H-1,3,2-benzodioxathiin-2,2-dioxide (3),trans-2-benzyloxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone (5) and (E)-3-benzylidene-1-cyclohexenyl phenyl ketone (6) are obtained. The formation of5 and6 is shown to proceed via an acid catalyzedCannizzaro reaction of benzaldehyde.

Guanidine reacts with 1,3-diphenyl-2-propen-1-one to yield not only the dihydropyrimidine2 a 2 and the aromatic compound3 a 2, but also a bicyclic base, 2,4,6,8-tetraphenyl-2,8-dihydro-1H-pyrimido[1,2–a]pyrimidine (4). Action of 4-phenyl-3-buten-2-one on guanidine generates a 22-condensate, 7-methyl-4,5-diphenyl-4,4a,5,6,7,8,10,10a-octahydro-7,10a-methano-pyrimido[4,5–d]diazocine-2,9(1H, 3H)-diimine12 R besides the methylphenylpyrimidinamine3 b 2. The structural formulae4 and12 are proved by NMR-spectra. The mass spectra and the mechanisms of the formation of4 and12 are also discussed.

Zusammenfassung Das Verhalten der Hydroxy- und Amino-pyridine gegenüber Malonsäure-bis-2,4,6-trichlorphenylestern (1) wird untersucht. Im besonderen werden die Reaktionen des 3-Hydroxy-pyridins (4) mit1 zu 4-Hydroxy-2H-pyrano[3,2-b]pyridin-2-onen (5 a-e) und die des 2-Amino-3-hydroxy-pyridins (15) zu 2,9-Dihydroxy-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-onen (16 d-f) beschrieben.
Syntheses of heterocycles, CLX: the reaction of hydroxy and amino pyridines with reactive malonic esters
The reaction of hydroxy and amino pyridines with 2.4.6-trichlorophenyl malonates (1) is discussed. Especially the reaction of 3-hydroxy-pyridine (4) with1 to 4-hydroxy-2H-pyrano[3.2-b]pyridine-2-ones (5 a-e), and the reaction of 2-amino-3-hydroxy-pyridine (15) to 2.9-dihydroxy-4H-pyrido-[1.2-a]pyrimidin-4-ones (16 d-f) is described.

Isolation and properties of 4-(p-hydroxyphenyl-isopropylidene)-p-phenylenoxy-acetic acid (3 a) and homologous products are described. Obtained from 4.4-isopropyliden-diphenol and chloracetic acid,3 a reacts with formaldehyde to resolcarboxylic acids, used as base components for water soluble synthetic resin binders.

Zusammenfassung Brombernsteinsäure reagiert mit Benzalanilin inDMF/POCl3 zum 2,2-Diphenyl-4,4-biisochinolin-3,3 (2H, 2H)-dion (1a). Brombernsteinsäuredichlorid gibt mit dem Anil vorerst ein Addukt, welches beim Erhitzen in Nitrobenzol unter Abgabe von H2O, HBr und H2 ebenfalls in1 a übergeht. Analog können die Derivate1b-1k hergestellt werden, die in Lösung intensiv fluoreszieren.
Syntheses of heterocycles, CXLVIII: concerning the chemistry of bi-isoquinolones
Bromosuccinic acid reacts with benzylidene aniline inDMF/POCl3 yielding 2.2-diphenyl-4.4-biisoquinoline-3.3 (2H, 2H)-dione (1a). Bromosuccinyldichloride and benzylidene aniline give firstly an adduct, which loses H2O, HBr and H2 to yield1 a, if heated in nitrobenzene. The derivatives1b-1k are obtained in a similar way and show in solution an intensive fluorescence.

Zusammenfassung Aliphatische Amine bzw. Alkohole reagiren (in Gegenwart von PbO) mit 2-Methyl-2,5-diphenyl-imidazolin-4-thion (1) glatt zu 4-Alkylamino-2H-imidazolen (2 a-f, 7) bzw. 4-Alkoxy-2H-imidazolen (9 a-g). Die Darstellung von 4-Arylamino-2H-imidazolen (4 a-j) bzw. 4-Aroxy-2H-imidazolen (10 a-t) gelingt in guten Ausbeuten durch Umsetzung von 2-Methyl-2,5-diphenyl-4-chlor-2H-imidazol (3) mit aromatischen Aminen in siedenden Lösungsmitteln (Petroläther, Aceton) bzw. mit Phenolen in siedendem Aceton in Gegenwart von HCl-Acceptoren (K2CO3, Dabco). Die Umsetzung von3 mit Anthranilsäure liefert in 83proz. Ausbeute 1-Methyl-1,3-diphenyl-1H, 9H-imidazo[5,1-b]chinazolin-9-on (6). Aus3 und Thiophenol erhält man glatt 2-Methyl-2,5-diphenyl-4-phenylthio-2H-imidazol (11).
On the reaction of 2-Methyl-2,5-diphenyl-imidazoline-4-thione and 2-Methyl-2,5-diphenyl-4-chloro-2H-imidazole with aliphatic and aromatic amines, alcohols and phenols (joint action of elemental sulfur and gaseous ammonia upon ketones, LXXVI
Aliphatic amines and alcohols (in the presence of PbO) easily react with 2-methyl-2.5-diphenyl-imidazoline-4-thione (1) to 4-alkylamino-2H-imidazoles (2 a-f, 7) and 4-alkoxy-2H-imidazoles (9 a-g), resp. 4-arylamino-2H-imidazoles (4 a-j) are prepared in good yields by the reaction of 2-methyl-2.5-diphenyl-4-chloro-2H-imidazole (3) with aromatic amines under reflux in light naphtha or acetone; in the same manner 4-aroxy-2H-imidazoles (10 a-t) are obtained from3 and phenols in boiling acetone in the presence of HCl-acceptors (K2CO3, Dabco). Reaction of3 with anthranilic acid leads to1-methyl-1.3-diphenyl-1H.9H-imidazo[5.1-b]chinazoline-9-one (6) in 83% yield. By reaction of thiophenol with3 2-methyl-2.5-diphenyl-4-phenylthio-2H-imidazole (11) is easily obtained.

Starting from 4-ethynyl-4H-pyrane-3,5-dicarbaldehyde (3 a) methane derivatives were obtained with substituents being five membered rings containing N-atoms—such as 4,4-dipyrazolylketone and 4,4-dipyrazolyl-4-triazolylmethane. Reactions of the new methane derivatives were studied.

Zusammenfassung 2-Methyl-3-äthyl-5,6-dihydro-4H-1,4-thiazin (1) läßt sich in 75proz. Ausb. durch die gemeinsame Einwirkung von Schwefel und Äthylenimin auf Diäthylketon darstellen.
2-Methyl-3-ethyl-5.6-dihydro-4H-1.4-thiazine (1) may be synthesised in 75% yield by the concomitant action of sulphur and ethylene imine upon diethyl ketone.

The reaction of 4-hydroxy-2-quinolone (1) with malonyl chlorides2 in the presence of N,N-dimethylaniline yields the linear pyrono-quinolones4. These are thermically rearranged to angular derivatives5, which can also be obtained by direct condensation of1 with trichlorophenyl malonates3. The reaction of 4-benzyloxy-2-quinolone with2a gives the mesoionic 1,3-oxazine derivative8.

Zusammenfassung 4-O-Methyl-7,8-dehydro-metathebainon-methin (1) geht in alkalischer Lösung in das Naphthalin-Derivat3 über, das unter Abspaltung von Formiat7 liefert. Das Auftreten von3 kann durch Isolierung von13a nach Reduktion mit NaBH4 nachgewiesen werden. Die aus3 und7 durch Reduktion erhaltenen Alkohole8a und13a werden in saurer Lösung unter Methanol-Abspaltung zu den 2,3-Dihydro-naphtho[1,8-bc]pyranen9 und14 cyclisiert.
A new rearrangement of a metathebainone derivative with a cyclohexa-2,5-dienone groupment
4-O-Methyl-7.8-dehydrometathebainonemethine (1) in alkaline solution rearranges to the naphthalene derivative3, which eliminates formiate to give7. The occurrence of3 was confirmed by isolation of13a after reduction with NaBH4. The hydroxy compounds8a and13a, obtained by reduction, eliminate methanol and cyclize to the 2.3-dihydronaphtho[1.8-bc]pyrans9 and14.

The reaction of imidazolidine-4-thiones [1, 6 (R=H)] with acyl chlorides and arylsulfonyl chlorides under various conditions to 3-acyl-imidazolidin-4-thiones and 3-arylsulfonyl-imidazolidin-4-thiones are described. 3-Alkyl-imidazolidine-4-thiones are synthesized in the same way. 1-Phenylcarbamoyl-imidazolidine-4-thiones (8, 9) are obtained by reacting1 and6 (R=H) with phenyl isocyanate. By oxidation with KMnO4 in absol. acetone2 (R=COC5H11) is converted into 3-hexanoyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-imidazolidine-4-one (10).

The -isothiocyanato-ketone 1 reacts with substituted hydrazines (2) in alkaline solution to form 2-alkyl-5,6-dihydro-(2H)-1,2,4-triazepine-3(4H)-thiones (3); the intermediate thiosemicarbazide derivatives (6), formed by addition of the hydrazine derivatives to the isothiocyanate group, could be isolated. CH3I and BrCH2COOC2H5 alkylate3 at sulfur, and the fusedring compounds14 and16 were isolated.

Zusammenfassung 2.5-Dialkyl-3.4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-aldehyde (1 c–1 f) setzen sich mit Acetamid und Essigsäureanhydrid zu 2,5-Dialky-3.4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-methandioldiacetaten (2 c–2 f), N.N-[(2.5-Dialkyl-3.4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-methylen]bisacetamiden (3 c–3 f) und zu 1.4-Dialkyl-3-acetoxy-7-acetamido-2-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptanen (6 c–6 f) um. Ausdem 3.4-Dihydro-2H-pyran-2-aldehyd (1 a) entsteht unter gleichen Bedingungen kein Oxabicycloheptan. Mit Methylharnstoff reagieren die genannten Pyranaldehyde zu Pyranylmethylenbismethylharnstoffen9 c–9 f.
1.4-dialkyl-3-acetoxy-7-acetamido-2-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptanes
2.5-Dialkyl-3.4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-carboxaldehydes (1 c to1 f) are transformed by acetamide and acetic anhydride to 2.5-dialkyl-3.4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-methanediol diacetates (2 c to2 f), N.N-[(2.5-dialkyl-3.4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-methylen] bisacetamides (3 c–3 f) and to 1.4-dialkyl-3-acetoxy-7-acetamido-2-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptanes (6 c–6 f). 3.4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-carboxaldehyde (1 a) is not converted to an oxabicycloheptane under the same conditions. With methylurea the pyranaldehydes mentioned react to pyranylmethylenebismethylureas9 c–9 f.

Zusammenfassung Perylen (1) reagiert mit p-Benzochinon zu Naphtho[1,2,3,4-ghi]perylen-1,4-chinon3 a und Tetranaphtho[2,1,8-uva: 1, 8 7-cde:2, 1, 8-jkl: 1, 8, 7-nop]pentacen-9,20-chinon5a, mit Naphthochinon zu Anthra[1,2,3,4-ghi]perylen-9,14-chinon4a.5 a entsteht auch aus3 a und1. Alle drei Chinone lassen sich in ihre Grundkohlenwasserstoffe3, 5 bzw.4 überführen, jedoch nur3 a und4 a reduzierend acetylieren. Bei der Umsetzung des Diacetylderivats von3 a mit Maleinsäureanhydrid (MSA) und Chloranil entsteht Benzo[a]coronen-9,12-chinon-3,4-dicarbon-säureanhydrid (6), aus dem Anthraperylen (4) Naphtho[2,3-a]-coronen-3,4-dicarbonsäureanhydrid (7) bzw. dessenMSA-Addukt7 a.
Reaction of perylene (1) with p-benzoquinone gives3 a and5 a, with naphthoquinone4 a is formed.5 a is also obtainable from1 and3 a. The quinones3 a, 4 a and5 a can be reduced to the corresponding hydrocarbons; however, only3 a and4 a undergo reductive acetylation. Reaction of the diacetyl derivative of3 a with maleic anhydride and chloranil leads to the anhydride6, whereas from4 the anhydride7 resp. its maleic anhydride adduct7 a is formed.

The title substances1 and2 were prepared by acylation of the corresponding ethyl 2-amino-thiophene- (or:-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-benzo[b]thiophene)-3-carboxylates, in some cases followed by reactions introducing a basic substituent.Additionally a group of 2-aroylamino-thiophene-(or:-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-benzo[b]thiophene)-3-carboxamides was subjected to ring closure reactions, yielding the corresponding 2-aryl-thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones and 2-aryl-[1]benzothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones (both:3).

Zusammenfassung Durch Methylierung von 8(14)-7-Oxo-thebainon-methaperchlorat (1) wird 4-O-Methyl-salutaridin-methoperchlorat (2) erhalten, das beimHofmannabbau das Methin3 liefert. Einwirkung von konz. HCl auf2 bei Raumtemp. führt zu 7-Hydroxy-4-O-methyl-7.8-dehydro-metathebainon-methoperchlorat (4 a), aus dem beim Erwärmen mit 10n-HClO4 7-Hydroxy-4-O-methyl-morphothebain-methoperchlorat (5) entsteht. Die Strukturen von2, 3, 4 a und5 werden bewiesen.
Preparation and reactions of 4-O-methyl-salutaridinemethoperchlorate
Methylation of 8(14)-7-oxo-thebainone-methoperchlorate (1) yields 4-O-methyl-salutaridine-methoperchlorate (2), which by action of 1n-NaOH is degradated to methine3. Acidic hydrolysis of2 at room temperature yields 7-hydroxy-4-O-methyl-7.8-dehydro-metathebainone-methoperchlorate (4 a), which by heating in 10n-HClO4 solution can be rearranged to 7-hydroxy-4-O-methyl-morphothebaine-methoperchlorate (5). The structures of the new compounds2, 3, 4 a, and5 are proved.

Spectroscopic and other physical investigations of silanyl iodides
Density, vapour pressure and molecular refraction as well as the corresponding atom increments and bond increments of the iodine derivatives of the silanes SiH4, Si2H6 and Si3H8 are communicated. The Raman spectra of SiH3J, Si2H5J and Si3H7J are recorded and assigned.
