The prediction and control of friction-induced vibration requires a sufficiently accurate constitutive law for dynamic friction at the sliding interface: for linearised stability analysis, this requirement takes the form of a frictional frequency response function. Systematic measurements of this frictional frequency response function are presented for small samples of nylon and polycarbonate sliding against a glass disc. Previous efforts to explain such measurements from a theoretical model have failed, but an enhanced rate-and-state model is presented which is shown to match the measurements remarkably well. The tested parameter space covers a range of normal forces (10–50 N), of sliding speeds (1–10 mm/s) and frequencies (100–2000 Hz). The key new ingredient in the model is the inclusion of contact stiffness to take into account elastic deformations near the interface. A systematic methodology is presented to discriminate among possible variants of the model, and then to identify the model parameter values.  相似文献

The tendency of today’s fuel injection systems to reach injection pressures up to 3000 bar in order to meet forthcoming emission regulations may significantly increase liquid temperatures due to friction heating; this paper identifies numerically the importance of fuel pressurization, phase-change due to cavitation, wall heat transfer and needle valve motion on the fluid heating induced in high pressure Diesel fuel injectors. These parameters affect the nozzle discharge coefficient (Cd), fuel exit temperature, cavitation volume fraction and temperature distribution within the nozzle. Variable fuel properties, being a function of the local pressure and temperature are found necessary in order to simulate accurately the effects of depressurization and heating induced by friction forces. Comparison of CFD predictions against a 0-D thermodynamic model, indicates that although the mean exit temperature increase relative to the initial fuel temperature is proportional to (1  Cd2) at fixed needle positions, it can significantly deviate from this value when the motion of the needle valve, controlling the opening and closing of the injection process, is taken into consideration. Increasing the inlet pressure from 2000 bar, which is the pressure utilized in today’s fuel systems to 3000 bar, results to significantly increased fluid temperatures above the boiling point of the Diesel fuel components and therefore regions of potential heterogeneous fuel boiling are identified.  相似文献

Tip gap flow characteristics and aerodynamic loss generations in a turbine cascade equipped with pressure-side partial squealer rims have been investigated with the variation of its rim height-to-span ratio (hp/s) for a tip gap height of h/s = 1.36%. The results show that the tip gap flow is characterized not only by the incoming leakage flow over the pressure-side squealer rim but also by the upstream flow intrusion behind the rim. The incoming leakage flow tends to decelerate through the divergent tip gap flow channel and can hardly reach the blade suction side upstream of the mid-chord, due to the interaction with the upstream flow intrusion as well as due to the flow deceleration. A tip gap flow model has been proposed for hp/s = 3.75%, and the effect of hp/s on the tip surface flow is discussed in detail. With increasing hp/s, the total-pressure loss coefficient mass-averaged all over the present measurement plane decreases steeply, has a minimum value for hp/s = 1.88%, and then increases gradually. Its maximum reduction with respect to the plane tip result is evaluated to be 11.6%, which is found not better than that in the cavity squealer tip case.  相似文献

To study the influence of back feeding particles on gas-solid flow in the riser, this paper investigated the flow asymmetry in the solid entrance region of a fluidized bed by particle concentration/velocity measurements in a cold square circulating fluidized beds (CFB). The pressure drop distribution along the riser and the saturation carrying capacity of gas for Geldart-B type particles were first analyzed. Under the condition of u0 = 4 m/s and Gs = 21 kg/(m^2 s), the back feeding particles were found to penetrate the lean gas-solid flow near the entrance (rear) wall before reaching the opposite (front) wall, thus leading to a relatively denser region near the front wall in the bottom bed. Higher solid circulation rate (u0 =4 m/s, Gs = 33 kg/(m^2 s)) resulted in a higher particle concentration in the riser. However the back feeding particles with higher momentum increased the asymmetry of the particle concentration/velocity profile in the solid entrance region. Lower air velocity (u0 =3.2 m/s) and Gs =21 kg/(m2 s), beyond the saturation carrying capacity of gas, induced an S-shaped axial solid distribution with a denser bottom zone. This limited the penetration of the back feeding particles and forced the flnidizing air to flow in the central region, thus leading to a higher solid holdup near the rear wall. Under the conditions of uo = 4 m/s and Gs = 21 kg/(m^2 s), addition of coarse particles (dp= 1145 μm) into the bed made the radial distribution of solids more symmetrical.  相似文献

Over-tip leakage flow and loss in a turbine cascade equipped with suction-side partial squealer rims have been investigated for the squealer rim height-to-span ratios (hst/s) of 0.94%, 1.88%. 3.75%, and 5.63% in the case of a tip gap height-to-span ratio of h/s = 1.36%. The casing wall and tip surface visualizations for hst/s = 3.75% show that most of the incoming tip leakage flow tends to accelerate through a convergent (nozzle-like) tip gap flow channel and penetrates into the neighboring blade flow passage even upstream of the mid-chord in the form of a wall jet, whereas the rest of it is entrapped by the suction-side squealer rim, flows backward, and is separated from the tip surface along a backward flow separation line. Therefore, the tip surface can be divided into a separation bubble and a backward flow area by the backward flow separation line. A qualitative tip gap flow model for the suction-side squealer tip is suggested in this study. For the present suction-side squealer tip, the total pressure loss coefficient mass-averaged throughout the present measurement plane decreases consistently with increasing hst/s and is higher than that for the cavity squealer tip or the pressure-side squealer tip regardless of hst/s.  相似文献

Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) and Large Eddy Simulations (LES) were performed for fully-developed turbulent flow in channels with smooth walls and walls featuring hemispherical roughness elements at shear Reynolds numbers Reτ = 180 and 400, with the goal of studying the effect of these roughness elements on the wall-layer structure and on the friction factor. The LES and DNS approaches were verified first by comparison with existing DNS databases for smooth walls. Then, a parametric study for the hemispherical roughness elements was conducted, including the effects of shear Reynolds number, normalized roughness height (k+ = 10–20) and relative roughness spacing (s+/k+ = 2–6). The sensitivity study also included the effect of distribution pattern (regular square lattice vs. random pattern) of the roughness elements on the walls. The hemispherical roughness elements generate turbulence, thus increasing the friction factor with respect to the smooth-wall case, and causing a downward shift in the mean velocity profiles. The simulations revealed that the friction factor decreases with increasing Reynolds number and roughness spacing, and increases strongly with increasing roughness height. The effect of random element distribution on friction factor and mean velocities is however weak. In all cases, there is a clear cut between the inner layer near the wall, which is affected by the presence of the roughness elements, and the outer layer, which remains relatively unaffected. The study reveals that the presence of roughness elements of this shape promotes locally the instantaneous flow motion in the lateral direction in the wall layer, causing a transfer of energy from the streamwise Reynolds stress to the lateral component. The study indicates also that the coherent structures developing in the wall layer are rather similar to the smooth case but are lifted up by almost a constant wall-unit shift y+ (∼10–15), which, interestingly, corresponds to the relative roughness k+ = 10.  相似文献

This detailed the tribological and tribochemical properties of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoflakes used as additives in #40 base oil in a four-ball tribo-tester. The average friction coefficient of the friction pair for lubricant containing the Fe3O4 nanoflakes of 1.5 wt% as a lubricant additive in the base oil is decreased by 18.06% compared to that of solely base oil. The chemical composition of base oil with the Fe3O4 nanoflake additives did not change during the 48-h friction assessment. The decreased saturation magnetization and increased coercivity of magnetite nanoflakes occurred due to the distortion of the basal planes and the presence of hematite (α-Fe2O3) generated by the tribochemical reactions during the friction process. The multi-layer low-shear-stress tribochemical lubrication films on the surface of the friction pair could form because the nanoflake particles arrange and adhere onto the surface of the friction pair in an orderly manner, and the tribochemical reactions of the friction pair in the presence of the nanoflakes occur as Fe  FeO  Fe3O4  γ-FeOOH  γ-Fe2O3  α-Fe2O3. The formation of the films can improve the tribological properties.  相似文献

The motion of single Argon bubbles rising in the eutectic alloy GaInSn under the influence of a DC longitudinal magnetic field (parallel to the direction of bubble motion) was examined. The magnetic field strength was varied up to 0.3 T corresponding to a magnetic interaction parameter N (which measures the ratio of electromagnetic forces to inertial forces) slightly greater than 1. The liquid metal was at rest in a cylindrical container. Bubble and liquid velocities were measured using ultrasound Doppler velocimetry (UDV). The measured bubble terminal velocity showed oscillations indicating a zigzag movement of ellipsoidal bubbles. For small bubbles (de  4.6 mm) an increase of the drag coefficient with increasing magnetic interaction parameter N was observed, whereas for larger bubbles (de  5.4 mm) the application of the magnetic field reduces the drag coefficient. The measurements revealed a distinct electromagnetic damping of the bubble induced liquid velocity leading to more rectilinear bubble trajectories when the magnetic field is applied. Moreover, significant modifications of the bubble wake structure were observed. Raising of the magnetic field strength caused an enlargement of the eddies in the wake. The Strouhal number decreases with increasing magnetic interaction parameter N.  相似文献

Large-eddy simulations of flow past a two-dimensional (2D) block were performed to evaluate four subgrid-scale (SGS) models: (i) the traditional Smagorinsky model, (ii) the Lagrangian dynamic model, (iii) the Lagrangian scale-dependent dynamic model, and (iv) the modulated gradient model. An immersed boundary method was employed to simulate the 2D block boundaries on a uniform Cartesian grid. The sensitivity of the simulation results to grid refinement was investigated by using four different grid resolutions. The velocity streamlines and the vertical profiles of the mean velocities and variances were compared with experimental results. The modulated gradient model shows the best overall agreement with the experimental results among the four SGS models. In particular, the flow recirculation, the reattachment position and the vertical profiles are accurately reproduced with a relative coarse grid resolution of (Nx × Ny × Nz=) 160 × 40 × 160 (nx × nz = 13 × 16 covering the block). Besides the modulated gradient model, the Lagrangian scale-dependent dynamic model is also able to give reasonable prediction of the flow statistics with some discrepancies compared with the experimental results. Relatively poor performance by the Lagrangian dynamic model and the Smagorinsky model is observed, with simulated recirculating patterns that differ from the measured ones. Analysis of the turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) budget in this flow shows evidence of a strong production of TKE in the shear layer that forms as the flow is deflected around the block.  相似文献

Pressure drops in the flow through micro-orifices and capillaries were measured for silicone oils, aqueous solutions of polyethylene glycol (PEG), and surfactant aqueous solutions. The diameter of micro-orifices ranged from 5 μm to 400 μm. The corresponding length/diameter ratio was from 4 to 0.05 and capillary diameters were 105 μm and 450 μm. The following results were obtained: silicone oils of 10?6 m2/s and 10?5 m2/s in kinematic viscosity generated a reduction of pressure drop (RPD), that is, drag reduction, similar to the RPD of water and a glycerol/water mixture reported in the previous paper by the present authors. When RPD occurred, the pressure drop (PD) of silicone oils of 10?6 m2/s and 10?5 m2/s had nearly the same magnitude. Namely, the difference in viscosity did not influence RPD. A 103 ppm aqueous solution of PEG20000 provided almost the same PD as that of PEG8000 for the 400 μm to 15 μm orifices, but a greater PD than that of PEG8000 for the 10 μm to 5 μm orifices. A non-ionic surfactant and a cationic surfactant were highly effective in RPD compared with anionic surfactants: the non-ionic and cationic surfactant solutions had PD one order of magnitude lower than that of water under some flow conditions in the concentration range from 1 ppm to 104 ppm, but the anionic surfactant solutions did not generate RPD except in the case of the smallest orifice of 5 μm in diameter. The PD of the non-ionic surfactant solution showed a steep rise at a Reynolds number (Ret) for 400 μm to 15 μm orifices. The Ret provides the relationship Ret = K/D, where D is the orifice diameter, and K is a constant of 2 × 10?2 m for the 100–20 μm orifices irrespective of liquid concentration. Capillary flow experiment revealed that the PEG, non-ionic and cationic surfactant solutions generated RPD also in a laminar flow through the capillary of 105 μm in diameter, but not in the flow through the capillary of 450 μm in diameter. In order to clarify the cause of RPD, an additional experiment was carried out by changing the orifice material from metal to acrylic resin. The result gave a different appearance of RPD, suggesting that RPD is related to an interfacial phenomenon between the liquid and wall. The large RPDs found in the present experiment are very interesting from both academic and practical viewpoints.  相似文献

Journal bearings operating in hot environments and at high temperatures experience accelerated degradation of lubricating oils. In such situations, dry granular particulates have emerged as potential media for providing lubrication in journal bearings in place of lubricating oils. Granular particulates do not degrade thermally, even at considerably high temperatures. This work explores the static and dynamic performance characteristics of elliptical-bore journal bearings lubricated with granular particulates. It is found that a bearing lubricated with a larger size (2 μm) particles offers better performance compared with that using smaller size (1 μm) particles. Bore ellipticity reduces the load-carrying capacity and increases side leakage and the coefficient of friction; however, rotor stability is marginally improved at low eccentricity ratios (<0.6), followed by significant improvement at high eccentricity ratios (>0.6).  相似文献

A continuous dichotomous beta gauge monitor was used to characterize the hourly content of PM2.5, PM10–2.5, and Black Carbon (BC) over a 12-month period in an urban street canyon of Hong Kong. Hourly vehicle counts for nine vehicle classes and meteorological data were also recorded. The average weekly cycles of PM2.5, PM10–2.5, and BC suggested that all species are related to traffic, with high concentrations on workdays and low concentrations over the weekends. PM2.5 exhibited two comparable concentrations at 10:00–11:00 (63.4 μg/m3) and 17:00–18:00 (65.0 μg/m3) local time (LT) during workdays, corresponding to the hours when the numbers of diesel-fueled and gasoline-fueled vehicles were at their maximum levels: 3179 and 2907 h−1, respectively. BC is emitted mainly by diesel-fueled vehicles and this showed the highest concentration (31.2 μg/m3) during the midday period (10:00–11:00 LT) on workdays. A poor correlation was found between PM2.5 concentration and wind speed (R = 0.51, P-value > 0.001). In contrast, the concentration of PM10–2.5 was found to depend upon wind speed and it increased with obvious statistical significance as wind speed increased (R = 0.98, P-value < 0.0001).  相似文献

The paper studies a class of multiple-zone sliding contact problems. This class is general enough to include frictional and thermal effects, and anisotropic response of the indented material. In particular, a rigid die (indenter) slides with Coulomb friction and at constant speed over the surface of a deformable and conducting body in the form of a 2D half-space. The body is assumed to behave as a thermoelastic transversely isotropic material. Thermoelasticity of the Green–Lindsay type is assumed to govern. The solution method is based on integral transforms and singular integral equations. First, an exact transform solution for the auxiliary problem of multiple-zone (integer n > 1) surface tractions is obtained. Then, an asymptotic form for this auxiliary problem is extracted. This form can be inverted analytically, and the result applied to sliding contacts with multiple zones. For illustration, detailed calculations are provided for the case of two (n = 2) contact zones. The solution yields the contact zone width and location in terms of sliding speed, friction, die profile, and also the force exerted. Calculations for the hexagonal material zinc illustrate effects of speed, friction and line of action of the die force on relative contact zone size, location of maximal values for the temperature and the compressive stress, and the maximum temperature for a given maximum stress. Finally, from our general results, a single contact zone solution follows as a simple limit.  相似文献

Although the discharge flow of spherical materials has been extensively explored, the effect of particle shape on discharge is still poorly understood. The present work explores the two-dimensional discharge flow fields of noncircular particles using the soft-sphere-imbedded pseudo-hard particle model method. Rectangular particles having different aspect ratios (Ra = 1, 1.5, 2–5) and regular polygonal particles having different numbers of sides (Ns = 3–8, 10) are discharged through hopper beds having different orifice widths (Di = 40, 70.77, 99.13, 125.74, 151.13 mm). The discharge rates of differently shaped particles in different beds are consistent with Beverloo’s relation. Moreover, the flow fields are computed and evaluated to study the effects of Ra, Ns, and Di on particle discharge. The characteristics of particle–particle connections in the discharge process are evaluated according to the temporal evolution and spatial distribution of the contact points. Additionally, the effect of the initial packing on the discharge profile is investigated. The findings help clarify the discharge of noncircular particles.  相似文献

In this paper, interlaminar crack initiation and propagation under mode-I with static and fatigue loading of a composite material are experimentally assessed for different test temperatures. The material under study is made of a 3501-6 epoxy matrix reinforced with AS4 unidirectional carbon fibres, with a symmetric laminate configuration [0°]16/S. In the experimental programme, DCB specimens were tested under static and fatigue loading. Based on the results obtained from static tests, fatigue tests were programmed to analyse the mode-I fatigue behaviour, so the necessary number of cycles was calculated for initiation and propagation of the crack at the different temperatures. GN curves were determined under fatigue loading, N being the number of cycles at which delamination begins for a given energy release rate. GICmaxa, aN and da/dNa curves were also determined for different Gcr rates (90%, 85%, 75%, etc.) and different test temperatures: 90 °C, 50 °C, 20 °C, 0 °C, ?30 °C and ?60 °C.  相似文献

Coalescence of sessile droplets is studied experimentally with water–glycerin mixtures of different viscosities. Effects of viscosity on the dimensionless spreading length (Ψ) and the center-to-center distance (L) are investigated for two droplets; the first droplet (Ds) is stationary on a substrate and the second droplet (D0) landing at a center-to-center distance L from the first droplet. For a low viscosity fluid, Ψ is maximum when L approaches zero (or λ  1, where λ = 1  L/Ds), which represents a head-on collision. For a high viscosity fluid, Ψ is minimum when λ  0.6. The effect of λ on line printing for various viscosities is also examined by printing multiple droplets. We found that the larger the viscosity, the less the breakup between droplets; viscosities smaller than 60 wt% glycerin yielded line breakup. The overlap ratio of λ > 0.3 produced not a line, but a bigger droplet or puddle because of coalescence. Data obtained in this work can provide insights for the fabrication of conductive microtracks or microinterconnects in printed-electronics applications where a line breakup between droplets would lead to an electrical circuit short.  相似文献

The velocity field and the adequate shear stress corresponding to the flow of a generalized Burgers’ fluid model, between two infinite co-axial cylinders, are determined by means of Laplace and finite Hankel transforms. The motion is due to the inner cylinder that applies a time dependent torsional shear to the fluid. The solutions that have been obtained, presented in series form in terms of usual Bessel functions J1( ? ), J2( ? ), Y1( ? ) and Y2( ? ), satisfy all imposed initial and boundary conditions. Moreover, the corresponding solutions for Burgers’, Oldroyd-B, Maxwell, second grade, Newtonian fluids and large-time transient solutions for generalized Burgers’ fluid are also obtained as special cases of the present general solutions. The effect of various parameters on large-time and transient solutions of generalized Burgers’ fluid is also discussed. Furthermore, for small values of the material parameters, λ2 and λ4 or λ1, λ2, λ3 and λ4, the general solutions corresponding to generalized Burgers’ fluids are going to those for Oldroyd-B and Newtonian fluids, respectively. Finally, the influence of the pertinent parameters on the fluid motion, as well as a comparison between models, is shown by graphical illustrations.  相似文献

In the present paper, static bending problem of the electroelasticity for an inhomogeneous cylinder of finite length with sliding fixed end-supports is investigated. The given boundary value problem is reduced to a system of 12 k (k = 1, 2, …) integro-differential equations. Expressions for the components characterizing the state of stress for the inhomogeneous cylinder are presented. Based on the developed analytical algorithm, extensive numerical investigations associated with the stress analysis of an inhomogeneous piezoceramic cylinder have been conducted. The results of these investigations are illustrated graphically, demonstrating the stress distributions in piezoceramic circular and elliptical cylinders with inclusions of various geometries.  相似文献

The present paper, describes our experimental results on the viscosity of the nanofluid prepared by dispersing alumina nanoparticles (<50 nm) in commercial car coolant. The nanofluid prepared with calculated amount of oleic acid (surfactant) was tested to be stable for more than 80 days. The viscosity of the nanofluids is measured both as a function of alumina volume fraction and temperature between 10 and 50 °C. While the pure base fluid display Newtonian behavior over the measured temperature, it transforms to a non-Newtonian fluid with addition of a small amount of alumina nanoparticles. Our results show that viscosity of the nanofluid increases with increasing nanoparticle concentration and decreases with increase in temperature. Most of the frequently used classical models severely under predict the measured viscosity. Volume fraction dependence of the nanofluid viscosity, however, is predicted fairly well on the basis of a recently reported theoretical model for nanofluids that takes into account the effect of Brownian motion of nanoparticles in the nanofluid. The temperature dependence of the viscosity of engine coolant based alumina nanofluids obeys the empirical correlation of the type: log (μnf) = A exp(BT), proposed earlier by Namburu et al.  相似文献

Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of spatially developing turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) over sparsely-spaced two-dimensional (2D) rod-roughened walls were performed. The rod elements were periodically arranged along the streamwise direction with pitches of px/k = 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128, where px is the streamwise spacing of the rods, and k is the roughness height. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness was varied from Reθ = 300–1400, and the height of the roughness element was k = 1.5θin, where θin is the momentum thickness at the inlet. The characteristics of the TBLs, such as the friction velocity, mean velocity, and Reynolds stresses over the rod-roughened walls, were examined by varying the spacing of the roughness features (8  px/k  128). The outer-layer similarity between the rough and smooth walls was established for the sparsely-distributed rough walls (px/k  32) based on the profiles of the Reynolds stresses, whereas those are not for px/k = 8 and 16. Inspection of the interaction between outer-layer large-scale motions and near-wall small-scale motions using two-point amplitude modulation (AM) covariance showed that modulation effect of large-scale motions on near-wall small-scale motions was strongly disturbed over the rough wall for px/k = 8 and 16. For px/k  32, the flow that passed through the upstream roughness element transitioned to a smooth wall flow between the consecutive rods. The strong influence of the surface roughness in the outer layer for px/k = 8 and 16 was attributed to large-scale erupting motions by the surface roughness, creating both upward shift of the near-wall turbulent energy and active energy production in the outer layer with little influence on the near-wall region.  相似文献
