The optical spin Hall effect appears when elastically scattered exciton polaritons couple to an effective magnetic field inside of quantum wells in semiconductor microcavities. Theory predicts an oscillation of the pseudospin of the exciton polaritons in time. Here, we present a detailed analysis of momentum space dynamics of the exciton polariton pseudospin. Compared to what is predicted by theory, we find a higher modulation of the temporal oscillations of the pseudospin. We attribute the higher modulation to additional components of the effective magnetic field which have been neglected in the foundational theory of the optical spin Hall effect. Adjusting the model by adding non-linear polariton-polariton interactions, we find a good agreement in between the experimental results and simulations.  相似文献

We summarize in the present work exact results obtained for Tonks-Girardeau gases on one-dimensional optical lattices both for the ground state and nonequilibrium dynamics. On the theoretical side, impenetrable bosons offer the opportunity to study strongly interacting systems in one-dimensional lattices exactly, by means of the Jordan-Wigner transformation, and hence contribute to the topic of strong correlations at the center of interest in both condensed matter physics and quantum gases. This motivation is further enhanced by recent experimental realizations of such systems with ultracold atoms. After having shown their universal properties in equilibrium, we concentrate on their nonequilibrium dynamics. It will be shown that, starting from a pure Fock state, quasi-long-range correlations develop dynamically and lead to the formation of quasicondensates with a momentum determined by the underlying lattice. We expect this effect to be relevant for atom lasers with full control of the wavelength. Then, we will show that the free evolution of an initially confined Tonks-Girardeau gas leads to a momentum distribution that approaches at long times that of the equivalent fermionic system, giving rise to a bosonic gas with a Fermi edge, and hence a fermionization that can only be obtained out of equilibrium. Remarkably, although the momentum distribution function of the Tonks-Girardeau gas becomes equal to the one of the fermions, no loss in coherence is observed in the system, as reflected by a large occupation of eigenstates of the one-particle density matrix.  相似文献

The temporal dynamics of a spinor exciton-polariton condensate in a high-quality anisotropic GaAs microcavity under pulsed resonant excitation with light possessing a nonzero orbital angular momentum is investigated. The phenomenon of spatial separation of the spin components of the polariton condensate upon pumping with a coherent superposition of two beams with opposite circular polarizations and orbital angular momenta is observed. The key factors for the observation of this effect are the lateral anisotropy of the microcavity that causes a splitting between the linear components of the polariton ground state and the occurrence of opposite orbital angular momenta for the two spin components of the condensate. The experimental results are in qualitative agreement with the theoretical model of the phenomenon developed in JETP Lett. 104, 827 (2016).  相似文献

We extend our recent results [O.A. Egorov et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 153904 (2009)] on half-light–half-matter polariton solitons in planar semiconductor microcavities operating in the strong coupling regime. We initiate discussion on the structure of the solitons in the momentum space and its link to the instability of the upper branch of the polariton bistability loop. Numerical results showing the soliton excitation by a seed pulse are presented.  相似文献

We present novel experimental results demonstrating the coherence properties of the nonlinear emission from semiconductor microcavities in the strong coupling regime, recently interpreted by parametric polariton four-wave mixing. We use a geometry corresponding to degenerate four-wave mixing. In addition to the predicted threshold dependence of the emission on the pump power and spectral blueshift, we observe a phase dependence of the amplification which is a signature of a coherent polariton wave mixing process.  相似文献

We consider the propagation of quantized polarized light in a magneto-optically-manipulated atomic ensemble with a tripod configuration. A polariton formalism is applied when the medium is subjected to a washboard magnetic field under electromagnetically-induced transparency. The dark-state polariton with multiple components is achieved. We analyze the quantum dynamics of the dark-state polariton using experimental data from the rubidium D1-line. It is found that one component propagates freely, however the wave packet trajectory of the other component performs Bloch oscillations.  相似文献

We study quasiparticle dynamics in a Bose-Einstein condensate with a vortex by following the center of mass motion of a Bogoliubov wave packet, and find important Berry-phase effects due to the background flow. We show that the Berry phase invalidates the usual canonical relation between the mechanical momentum and position variables, leading to important modifications of quasiparticle statistics and thermodynamic properties of the condensates. Applying these results to a vortex in an infinite uniform superfluid, we find that the total transverse force acting on the vortex is proportional to the superfluid density. We propose an experimental setup to directly observe Berry phase effects through measuring local thermal atoms' momentum distribution around a vortex.  相似文献

We present the exact solution for the time evolution of the electron and phonon momentum distribution for a one-dimensional polaron model with alinear electronic energy dispersion. The electron momentum distribution is shown to obey aMarkovian quantum kinetic equation. Numerical results for the polaron model are compared to the corresponding exact results, when the negative momentum states are filled in the initial state. The presence of this Fermi sea modifies the dynamics except in the short time regime. The different, long time dynamics might show up in comparison of hot electron relaxation of undoped and doped semiconductors.  相似文献

We develop a time-dependent mean-field theory to investigate the released momentum distribution and the released energy of an ultracold Fermi gas in the BCS-BEC crossover after the scattering length has been set to zero by a fast magnetic-field ramp. For a homogeneous gas we analyze the nonequilibrium dynamics of the system as a function of the interaction strength and of the ramp speed. For a trapped gas the theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of disorder in the laser intensity on the dynamics of dark-state polaritons in an array of 20 cavities, each containing an ensemble of four-level atoms that is described by a Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian. We examine the evolution of the polariton number in the cavities starting from a state with either one or two polaritons in one of the cavities. For the case of a single polariton without disorder in the laser intensity, we calculate the wavefunction of the polariton and find that it disperses away from the initial cavity with time. The addition of disorder results in minimal suppression of the dispersal of the wavefunction. In the case of two polaritons with an on-site repulsion to hopping strength ratio of 20, we find that the polaritons form a repulsively bound state or dimer. Without disorder the dimer wavefunction disperses similarly to the single polariton wavefunction but over a longer time period. The addition of sufficiently strong disorder results in localization of the polariton dimer. The localization length is found to be described by a power law with exponent ? 1.31. We also find that we can localise the dimer at any given time by switching on the disorder.  相似文献

We have studied the polariton relaxation dynamics in a CdTe microcavity at low temperatures after resonant excitation into the upper polariton branch (UPB). Initially, we have set a negative exciton–cavity detuning, such that the energy difference between the two polariton branches coincides with that of an LO phonon. Our experimental results reveal a sublinear dependence of the integrated emission from the lower polariton branch (LPB) with excitation power. This evidences not only an inefficient LO phonon mediated relaxation from the UPB to the LPB but also a substantial inhibition of polariton relaxation along the LPB. After that, we have progressively reduced the negative detuning, approaching the exciton–cavity resonance. Under these conditions it is possible to observe a nonlinear emission arising from K0 LPB-states similar to that observed after nonresonant excitation. Marked oscillations are present in the time evolution traces, with a period that does not depend on excitation power or detuning.  相似文献

We present a novel time-domain experimental approach to the study of the dynamics of surface electromagnetic wave propagation in a two-dimensional photonic crystal. A surface plasmon polariton is launched by ultrafast laser pulses and propagates into a photonic crystal, the dynamics of which are measured by an interferometric cross-correlation method. Plasmon photonic stopgaps are characterized by a single measurement. The dispersion around the stopgaps is determined with a series of angle-resolved measurements.  相似文献

The yield of neutral excited atoms and low-energy photoelectrons generated by the electron dynamics in the combined Coulomb and laser field after tunneling is investigated. We present results of Monte-Carlo simulations built on the two-step semiclassical model, as well as analytic estimates and scaling relations for the population trapping into the Rydberg states. It is shown that mainly those electrons are captured into bound states of the neutral atom that due to their initial conditions (i) have moderate drift momentum imparted by the laser field and (ii) avoid strong interaction (“hard” collision) with the ion. In addition, it is demonstrated that the channel of capture, when accounted for in semiclassical calculations, has a pronounced effect on the momentum distribution of electrons with small positive energy. For the parameters that we investigated its presence leads to a dip at zero momentum in the longitudinal momentum distribution of the ionized electrons.  相似文献

We solve using the similarity transformation method a one-dimensionless driven-dissipative nonlinear Schrödinger equation to explore the dynamics of the rogue wave solitons generated in a polariton fluid. Under resonant excitation, we predict the existence of the bright and the dark-rogue waves solitons by varying the external pump source parameter. By considering, a time periodic polariton–polariton interaction and adjusting its frequency, the rogue wave soliton trains occur in a polariton fluid. In addition we observe that, the amplitude of the pump power is responsible to the formation of a the train of the bright and the dark rogue waves solitons.  相似文献

For a spatial finite nuclear density distribution a binding energy formula is developed. A modified Thomas-Fermi method which deduces the mixed density by taking into account an anisotropic local momentum space occupation is used. This method presents the binding energy as a functional of the proton and neutron density distributions. It was possible within this framework to derive in a consistent way the energy correction terms due to density inhomogeneities. The structure of these energy correction terms is shown and an estimate is given for the adjustable parameters of this model to fit the experimental nuclear masses.  相似文献

We have investigated the correlated momentum distribution of both electrons from nonsequential double ionization of helium in a 800 nm, 4.5 x 10(14 W/cm2 laser field. Using very high resolution coincidence techniques, we find a so-far unobserved fingerlike structure in the correlated electron momentum distribution. The structure can be interpreted as a signature of the microscopic dynamics in the recollision process. We identify features corresponding to the binary and recoil lobe in field-free (e,2e) collisions. This interpretation is supported by analyzing ab initio solutions of a fully correlated three-dimensional helium model.  相似文献

We studied the pump coherent dynamics in a II-VI microcavity parametric amplifier, using angle-resolved four-wave mixing. The polariton parametric amplification is found to result in a strong quenching and saturation of the pump coherence lifetime above the threshold. For the polariton scattering processes that remain below the amplification threshold, we find an angle-dependent collision broadening associated with the efficiency of the polariton scattering towards the excitonic reservoir.  相似文献
