Chern–Simons (CS) gauge theories in three dimensions and the Poisson sigma model (PSM) in two dimensions are examples of the same theory, if their field equations are interpreted as morphisms of Lie algebroids and their symmetries (on-shell) as homotopies of such morphisms. We point out that the (off-shell) gauge symmetries of the PSM in the literature are not globally well defined for non-parallelizable Poisson manifolds and propose a covariant definition of the off-shell gauge symmetries as left action of some finite-dimensional Lie algebroid.

Our approach allows us to avoid complications arising in the infinite-dimensional super-geometry of the BV- and AKSZ-formalism. This preprint is a starting point in a series of papers meant to introduce Yang–Mills type gauge theories of Lie algebroids, which include the standard YM theory, gerbes, and the PSM.  相似文献

We discuss ooff-shell states guided by an analogue model approach. This leads us to a more complete understanding of a model proposed recently by Schwarz with critical dimension 16. We are led, by algebraic considerations, to off-shell states in the Neveu- Schwarz-Ramond model, which obey the gauge conditions in the same critical dimension as the on-shell theory, the amplitudes factorizing on the usual positive definite states in 10 dimensions. Brief calculations reveal that some of the divergences present in the orbital model disappear in the fermion theory.  相似文献

The two-Hilbert-space theory of scattering is reviewed with particular reference to its application to nonrelativistic multichannel quantum- mechanical scattering theory. In Part I the abstract assumptions of the theory are collected, transition operators (both on- and off-energy-shell) are defined, the dynamical equations that determine the off-shell transition operators are presented and their real-energy limits examined, and the convergence of sequences of approximate transition operators is established. A section on how to incorporate group symmetries into the formalism reports new work. The material of Part I is relevant to a variety of both classical and quantum scattering systems. In Part II attention is directed specifically to N-body nonrelativistic quantum scattering systems in which the particles interact via short-range pair potentials. A method of constructing approximate transition operators is presented and shown to satisfy all the abstract assumptions of Part I. The dynamical equations that determine the half-on-shell approximate transition operators are shown to be coupled one-dimensional integral equations that have compact kernels and unique solutions when considered as operators on a Hilbert space of H?lder continuous functions. Moreover, the on-shell parts of those approximate transition amplitudes are shown to converge to the exact on-shell amplitudes as the order of the approximation increases. Detailed formulas for the kernels of the integral equations are written down for systems of particles that are distinguishable and for systems containing identical particles. Finally, some important open problems are described. Received July 2, 1999; accepted in final form October 27, 1999  相似文献

The fragmentation functions and scattering amplitudes are investigated in the framework of light-front perturbation theory. It is demonstrated that, the factorization property of the fragmentation functions implies the recursion relations for the off-shell scattering amplitudes which are light-front analogs of the Berends–Giele relations. These recursion relations on the light-front can be solved exactly by induction and it is shown that the expressions for the off-shell light-front amplitudes are represented as a linear combinations of the on-shell amplitudes. By putting external particles on-shell we recover the scattering amplitudes previously derived in the literature.  相似文献

By solving the consistency condition in Wess-Zumino gauge, we derive explicit expressions for chiral anomalies inN=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories. In dimensions 2, 4, and 6 we present a unified formula for the on-shell anomalies, in 6 dimensions also the off-shell version and in 10 dimensions the complete on-shell result.  相似文献

We present the complete off-shell structure of conformal supergravity in ten dimensions. It is based on 128 + 128 degrees of freedom and its formulation requires differential constraints. We study how these constraints are resolved in four and five dimensions. Covariant conditions are given that restrict conformal supergravity to its on-shell Poincaré counterpart. In ten dimensions the relationship between the two theories has new and unusual aspects, which we explore in a variety of ways. We rewrite on-shell Poincaré supergravity in a superconformally invariant form, from which we deduce that its off-shell version must contain at least a scalar (chiral) multiplet. We analyze some aspects of the non-linear structure of the field representation based on the conformal fields combined with one scalar multiplet.  相似文献

It is shown that the scattering amplitudes of some degenerate massive string states can be expressed in terms of that of higher spin states at the same mass level. This phenomenon is discussed from σ-model point of view and demonstrated explicitly by using massive Ward identities generated by zero-norm states atD=26. The subtlety of the scalar propagating state is briefly pointed out. We also compare our on-shell gauge symmetry derived from σ-model with off-shell gauge symmetry of covariant string field theory.  相似文献

We present a general method of constructing unfactorizable on-shell amplitudes (amplitude basis) and build up their one-to-one correspondence to the independent and complete operator basis in effective field theory (EFT). We apply our method to the Standard Model EFT and identify the amplitude basis in dimensions 5 and 6, which correspond to the Weinberg operator and operators in the Warsaw basis, except for some linear combinations.  相似文献

The geometrical approach to the functional integral over Faddeev-Popov ghost fields is developed and applied to construct the BRST extension of the off-shell closed string amplitudes in the constant curvature gauge. In this gauge the overlap path integral for off-shell amplitudes is evaluated. It leads to the nonlocal sewing procedure generating all off-shell amplitudes from the cubic interaction vertex. The general scheme of the reconstruction of a covariant closed string field theory from the off-shell amplitudes is discussed within the path integral framework.  相似文献

We study higher level Regge resonances of open superstrings, focusing on the universal part of the Neveu-Schwarz sector common to all D-brane realizations of the standard model. For Regge states with masses far above the fundamental string scale, we discuss the spin-dependence of their decay rates into massless gauge bosons. Extending our previous work on lowest level string excitations, we study the second mass level at which spins range from 0 to 3. We construct the respective vertex operators and compute the amplitudes involving one massive particle and two or three gauge bosons. To illustrate the use of Britto-Cachazo-Feng-Witten (BCFW) recursion relations in superstring theory, we build the four-gluon amplitude from on-shell amplitudes involving string resonances and gauge bosons.  相似文献

A new approach to the construction of off-shell dual amplitudes and hadronic currents is presented. The guiding principle in this work is the manifest incorporation of the Virasoro gauge conditions. This requirement is so stringent that we are only able to find a solution for a particular dimension of spacetime: 16 in the case of an off-shell scalar in the Veneziano model. Furthermore, the amplitude for one off-shell state and an arbitrary number of on-shell states turns out to be given by a logarithmically divergent integral, although it is quite well-behaved in all other respects. It is suggested that the divergence problem might not occur for a ghost-free model with α(0) < 1, and that suitable modification of the model can bring the dimension selected by the currents into coincidence with the critical dimension. These requirements could lead a long way toward determining a unique model.  相似文献

The off-shell pion-nucleon transition matrix is a basic ingredient in theories of pion-nuclear interactions which, in the absence of fundamental theory of πN dynamics, must be obtained by a phenomenological extrapolation from the available on-shell data. As one means of performing such an extrapolation, we explore a multichannel separable potential model with the property that the off-shell elastic scattering amplitude is generated directly from the measured elastic-channel phase shifts. The off-shell πN partial-wave transition amplitudes determined by this procedure are compared with those calculated by Landau and Tabakin using a one-channel absorptive separable potential. We find that the absorptive separable potential approach provides a physically unreasonable off-shell extrapolation at energies where the on-shell amplitude is highly inelastic, and show that the difficulty is a direct consequence of the one-channel nature of that method. The multichannel extrapolation is free of these difficulties.  相似文献

We wish to describe the coupling of a local current to the dual string as the amplitude for the string to collapse to a point. At the quantum level we note that states which are localized in the transverse directions are forced by the gauge constraints to have longitudinal extension. The best we can do in the conventional model is, therefore, to construct off-shell states which have zero helicity (but no unique spin). We calculate the propagator for such states and compare it with the model of Schwarz. In their respective critical dimensions (26 for the string and 16 for the off-shell model of Schwarz) the two results become identical. We also calculate the Green functions for the coupling of one of our off-shell states to any number of on-shell particles by means of the functional formalism. Our results have a close connection with the previous models of Schwarz and Wu and of Corrigan and Fairlie.  相似文献

Using the Ward-Takahashi identity, on-shell condition, bound Dirac equation and off-shell expansion, a reduced version of half off-shell virtual photon nucleon vertex has been suggested. The vertex are decomposed into several different order terms: the on-shell terms, first and second off-shell terms. The off-shell behaviour of the form factors is discussed in the one meson loop model. Using the reduced vertex and parametrized off-shell form factors the quasielastic response functions are calculated for several nuclei at ¦q¦–kf and for56Fe at large ¦q¦ up to 1.14 GeV/c and at ?q2=0.9 (GeV/c)2. The Coulomb sums are evaluated and a comparison of the theoretical prediction with data is given. The off-shell electron nucleon cross section is calculated and compared with the “cc1” off-shell extrapolation.  相似文献

We test the operator form of the Fourier transform of the Argonne V18 potential by computing selected scattering observables and all Wolfenstein parameters for a variety of energies. These are compared to the GW-DAC database and to partial wave calculations. We represent the interaction and transition operators as expansions in a spin-momentum basis. In this representation the Lippmann–Schwinger equation becomes a six channel integral equation in two variables. Our calculations use different numbers of spin-momentum basis elements to represent the on- and off-shell transition operators. This is because different numbers of independent spin-momentum basis elements are required to expand the on- and off-shell transition operators. The choice of on and off-shell spin-momentum basis elements is made so that the coefficients of the on-shell spin-momentum basis vectors are simply related to the corresponding off-shell coefficients.  相似文献

The problem of maintaining gauge invariance when truncating the two-particle irreducible (2PI) effective action has been studied recently by several authors. Here we give a simple and very general derivation of the gauge dependence identities for the off-shell 2PI effective action. We consider the case where the gauge is fixed by an arbitrary function of the quantum gauge field, subject only to the restriction that the Faddeev-Popov matrix is invertible. We also study the background field gauge. We address the role that these identities play in solving gauge invariance problems associated with physical quantities calculated using a truncated on-shell 2PI effective action.Received: 14 January 2005, Revised: 15 April 2005, Published online: 8 June 2005  相似文献

This article provides an introduction to on-shell recursion relations for calculations of tree-level amplitudes. Starting with the basics, such as spinor notations and color decompositions, we expose analytic properties of gauge-boson amplitudes, BCFW-deformations, the large z-behavior of amplitudes, and on-shell recursion relations of gluons. We discuss further developments of on-shell recursion relations, including generalization to other quantum field theories, supersymmetric theories in particular, recursion relations for off-shell currents, recursion relation with nonzero boundary contributions, bonus relations, relations for rational parts of one-loop amplitudes, recursion relations in 3D and a proof of CSW rules. Finally, we present samples of applications, including solutions of split helicity amplitudes and of N = 4 SYM theories, consequences of consistent conditions under recursion relation, Kleiss-Kuijf (KK) and Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) relations for color-ordered gluon tree amplitudes, Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) relations.  相似文献
