The cross sections for π±, K±, p, and p production in pp collisions have been measured at transverse momenta from 0.48 up to 2.21 GeV/c at 70 GeV. The data are compared with results obtained at lower and higher proton energies and also with the quantum chromodynamics parton model (QPM) calculations. Common behaviour of the cross sections of the form g(p)?(x) in the energy range above 200 GeV does not take place at lower energies. Qualitatively QPM fits the data and the best agreement is for π+/π? and K+/π+ ratios.  相似文献

J/ψ production at 40 GeV/c by π±, K±, p and p incident on hydrogen has been studied and results compared with those obtained on tungsten in the same experiment. On hydrogen, J/ψ cross-section ratios relative to π? have been measured to be (for xF > 0) σ(π?) : σ(π+) : σ(p) : σ(p) = 1 : (0.78 ± 0.09) : (0.83 ± 0.35) : (0.07 ± 0.04). The suppression of the proton induced cross sections shows the importance of calence quark-antiquark fusiin J/ψ production at this energy (i.e. MJ2/ψ/s=0.13).  相似文献

A study is presented of the inclusive production cross sections of K(892) vector mesons in pp interactions at 12 and 24 GeV/c and in π+p interactions at 16 GeV/c. The K inclusive cross section is ~0.9 mb for both pp at 24 GeV/c and π+p interactions at 16 GeV/c. For pp interactions, σ(K1+) and σ(K1?) are seen to rise with energy, showing a threshold behaviour. In both pp and π+p interactions, σ(K1+) largely exceeds σ(K1?) at these energies and this excess is interpreted as K1+ production by beam and target fragmentations. The decays of K1±0 yield ~30% of the K0 observed in the final states. The pT2 dependence of both K1+ and K1? cross sections is described by an exponential with slope of ~3.3 (GeV/c)?2. The longitudinal momentum spectra for K1+ in 16 GeV/cπ+p and 24 GeV/c pp interactions are similar in shape in the target hemisphere. The K1? spectra are similar over the whole kinematic region when viewed in the quark c.m.s. and point to a central production mechanism. Comparing K1+ and ρ0 production, striking similarities are found.  相似文献

Four low-mass “diffractive like” reactions π±p → π±(pπ0) and π±p → π±(nπ+) have been studied at 3.9 GeV/c incident pion momentum. These channels have been studied in the framework of a two-component model and we have proposed a definition of the diffraction dissociation amplitude. The following three features of the data are discussed: (1) an apparent violation of the predictions of isospin invariance for the cross section ratios, (2) the marked anisotropy of the s-channel helicity distributions and (3) the absence of the cross-over effect in the differential cross sections. The predictions of a two-component model previously used to explain the low mass I = 12(Nπ) enhancement [1] and s- and t-channel helicity non-conservation [2] are seen to be in agreement with these observations. Predictions are also made for higher energy incident pions and incident K, p, and p projectiles. These predictions are compared with available data including recent results at Fermilab and ISR energies.  相似文献

The reaction pppπ?π+p has been studied at 25 and 40 GeV/c at the Serpukhov proton synchroton using the CERN-IHEP spectrometer. The differential cross section has been determined as a function of four-momentum transfer to the proton (0.05–0.30 (GeV/c)2) and pππ mass (up to 2.2 and 2.6 GeV/c2). At both energies there is a broad low-mass maximum with an enhancement at 1.6–1.8 GeV/c2. The cross section in a given mass band falls rapidly with |t|, with an exponential slope that decreases with increasing mass. In both the background and the 1.7 GeV/c2 peak there is a strong Δ??π+ component. Possible spin-parity (JP) contributions to it are discussed. Throughout the range 1.5–2.2 GeV there is at least one state of J ? 32 and there is interference between states of opposite P, |ΔJ| ? 1. At the peak there is a J ? 52 component. There are striking parallels between this reaction and the boson reactions π?p→π?π?π+p and K? → K?π?π+p.  相似文献

Measurements have been made of relative production cross sections of the Jψ by π±, K±, p and p? at 39.5 GeV/c incident on copper. Jψ production rates from π?, K? and p? are similar. The Jψ relative particle/anti-particle production cross sections for x>0 are σ(π+)σ(π?)=(0.87±0.14), σ(K+)/σ(K?)=(0.85±0.5) and σ(p)σ(p?)=(0.15 ±0.08). The small p/p? cross section ratio disagrees with models of J/ψ production by gluon amalgamation.  相似文献

We have observed a radiative transition from the ψ to a state decaying into KSK±π?, with mass M = 1.44?0.015+0.01 GeV/c2 and width Γ = 0.05?0.02+0.03 GeV/c2. We tentatively identify this state as the E(1420). Assuming that this state is an isospin singlet, we have determined the branching fraction product B(ψ → γE) × B(E × KKπ) = (3.6 ± 1.4) × 10?3.  相似文献

In a search for resonances coupled to the p? system, we have studied π?p interactions at 16 GeV/c giving a forward antiproton, using the Omega spectrometer at CERN. In the final states involving a p, p and π? we observe a 5.6 (6.3) standard deviation enhancement in the p? mass spectrum at (2.95 ± 0.01) GeV with a width consistent with the resolution (σ = 15 MeV). The production cross section × branching ratio is estimated to be of the order 1 μb. The data are consistent with a resonance decaying partly via intermediate pp final states.  相似文献

Results on charged particle yields in proton-proton collisions at 14.2, 19.2 and 24.0 GeV/c for secondary momenta above 4 GeV/c and lab angles between 10 and 150 mrad are reported. Cross sections for inclusive reactions involving the production of π± K±, p and p are presented. The general features of the dependence of the data on transverse and longitudinal momentum, missing mass, and four-momentum transfer are described and the approach to limiting distributions in the 10 to 30 GeV energy range is discussed.  相似文献

We present the results of a search for a resonance at 2.6 GeV decaying into KS0π±π+π? in the six-prong plus KS0 final state in 14.75 GeV/cpp interactions. We do not find confirming evidence, and with 95% confidence we quote an upper limit of σ·BR < 21 ub.  相似文献

The reaction pp → π?π+ has been studied at 10.1 GeV/c in the ?t interval from 0.15 to 1.5 (GeV/c)2. A line-reversal comparison with backward elastic scattering π+p → pπ+ shows good agreement for ?t > 0.3 (GeV/c)2.  相似文献

We have performed an isospin analysis of single-pion production processes in antiproton-nucleon scattering from threshold to 2.90 GeV/c. Reactions used are ppppπ0, npπ?and ppppπ?. Results show that σ1, the total I=1 cross section, rises rapidly from threshold to reach a broad maximum around 2.5 GeV/c and σ0, the I=0 cross section, rises from threshold and continues on a linearly rising trend at least up to 2.90 GeV/c. In the region of 2.9 GeV/c, σ1 and σ0 have comparable values, thus suggesting that considerable amount of I=12Nπ and Nπ states is produced even in this low momentum region. We further determine that single pion production processes are not the source of the π0 (2375,190) enhancement observed in the pp and pd total cross sections and may account for as much as 25±8% of the π1 (2350,140) enhancement.  相似文献

The differential cross sections for K?p and pp elastic scattering have been measured over the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.18<?t<3.3 (GeV/c)2. The K?p data decrease smoothly as a function of ?t, whereas, the pp data shows a break at ?t = 0.6 (GeV/c)2 followed by a fast drop to ?t ? 1.6 (GeV/c)2 where the differential cross section levels off and stays constant out to ?t = 3 (GeV/c)2.  相似文献

A search for long-lived particles (τ ? 10?8 sec), with changes ±23, ± 1, ±43and ± 2, produced in 200 GeV pN collisions was performed at the CERN-SPS in a secondary beam equipped with superconducting r.f. separators. Upper limits were obtained for the production of long-lived hadrons and leptons. For charge - 1 particles the limits are at the level of 10?7 of the pions at a mass m = 0.2 GeV and reach the 10?11 level from 3to 8 GeV. The production of light antinuclei was measured. The cross sections for 3He production are (1.3 ± 0.3) and (1.9 ± 0.3) × 10?34 cm2/sr · GeV/c at 21 and 47.4 GeV/c respectively; for t the cross section is (7.6 ± 0.9) × 10?34 cm2/sr · GeV/c at 23.7 GeV/c.  相似文献

We observe the reaction dp → pspec (pπ?)p in a bubble chamber exposure at 25 GeV/c incident deuteron momentum. The (pπ?) system with invariant mass below 2.0 GeV is interpreted as neutron diffraction dissociation. The (pπ?) mass spectra show little if any direct evidence of N1 production. The decay angular distributions and the momentum transfer distributions of the (pπ?) system suggest a smooth increase in contributions from higher partial waves (J ? 32) with increased mass or momentum transfer. A simple partial-wave analysis shows a P11 contribution below 1.3 GeV for small ?t′ and a dominant D13 contribution elsewhere. Both the P11 and D13 amplitudes peak far below the N1(1470) and N1(1520) resonances. We also find evidence for the charge-exchange reaction np → p(pπ?). In this process the (pπ?) system shows evidence for Δo(1236) and N1(1520) production.  相似文献

Data are presented on a high mass I 32Δ resonance produced in 10 GeV/c K+p interactions. The mass and width of the resonance, determined by a maximum likelihood fit to the pπ+ spectrum in the final state K+pπ+π?, are 1895±15 MeV/c2230±50 MeV/c2 respectively. The differential cross sections, dσ/dt, for the quasi two-body final states K1(890)Δ(1236) and K1(890)Δ(1900) are well described by the one pion exchange model. In addition the moments of the Gottfried-Jackson angular distribution of the pπ+ system agree with those computed from on-shell π+p elastic scattering data. We conclude that the two final states are produced mainly by π exchange and associate the structure observed in the moments up to NH(6,0) in the 1900 MeV region with the 72+ Regge recurrence of the Δ(1236). The dominant decay mode of the resonance is Δ++(1900)→pπ+ but decays to pπ+π0 and nπ+π+ are also observed. Cross sections are determined for the production of the quasi two-body final states K1(890)Δ(1236), K1(890) Δ(1900), K1(1420)Δ(1236) and K1(1420)Δ(1900).  相似文献

Based on 4085 pn→Xπ? events, X denoting a neutral NN or N system, we present evidence for 5.1 and 3.1 standard deviation enhancements at the X mass of 2.85 and 3.05 GeV/c2, respectively. The lower mass bump has a width of Λ ? 39 GeV/c2 while the 3.05 GeV/c2 is seen as a one bin accumulation (20 GeV/c2 width). The relevance of these peaks is discussed.  相似文献

Using 20.5 GeV electrons on protons, we measured inclusive π0's (of transverse momentum, pT, from 0 to 1.4 GeV/c) produced by virtual photons of energy, ν, from 4 to 16.5 GeV and four-momentum squared, q2, from ?1.8 to ?8.5 (GeV/c)2. Comparing with charged pion data, we find σπ0 = 12π++ σπ?), supporting the quark model. Photon knockout of a quark is favored as the interpretation of these data because of scaling in z = Eπ/ν and similarity in z-dependence of other pion production data. Consistent with this interpretation are the dependence of 〈pT〉 on q2, the azimuthal dependence, and fits to the constituent interchange model. We also observe a possible pT?4 dependence at large |q2| over a limited pT range.  相似文献
