In the QCD sum rule approach we predict the Λ (1405) mass by choosing the π0Σ0 multiquark interpolating field. It is found that the mass is about 1.419 GeV from Π1 (q
2) sum rule which is more reliable than Πq (q
2) sum rule, where Πq (q
2) and Π1 (q
2) are two invariant functions of the correlator Π (q
2). We also present the sum rules for the K
+
p and the π+Σ+ multiquark states, and compare to those for the π0Σ0 multiquark state. The mass of the Λ (1600) can be also reproduced in our approach.

Electronic spectra of uracil in its diketo (lactam) form and five enol (lactim) tautomeric forms have been investigated by
means of combined density functional and configuration interaction methods. We have simulated the effects of hydrogen bonding
with a protic solvent by recomputing the spectrum of uracil in the presence of two, four, or six water molecules. Geometries
of the electronic ground state and several low-lying excited states have been optimized. Spin-orbit coupling has been determined
for correlated wavefunctions employing a non-empirical spin-orbit mean-field approach. In accord with experiment, we find
the diketo tautomer to be the most stable one. The calculations confirm that the first absorption band arises from the 1( π↦π*) S
0↦S
2 excitation. The experimentally observed vibrational structure in this band originates from a breathing mode of the six ring.
Complexation with water molecules is seen to cause a significant blue shift of n↦π* excitations while leaving π↦π* excitations nearly uninfluenced. Computed radiative lifetimes are presented for the experimentally known weak phosphorescence
from the π↦π* excited T1 state. Among the uracil lactim tautomers, one is particularly interesting from a spectroscopic point of view. In this tautomer,
the π↦π* excitation gives rise to the S1 state.

We compute the dynamical structure factor S(q,τ) of an elastic medium where force dipoles appear at random in space and in time, due to “micro-collapses” of the structure.
Various regimes are found, depending on the wave vector q and the collapse time θ. In an early time regime, the logarithm of the structure factor behaves as (qτ)3/2, as predicted in (L. Cipelletti et al., Phys. Rev Lett. 84, 2275 (2000)) using heuristic arguments. However, in an intermediate-time regime we rather obtain a (qτ)5/4 behaviour. Finally, the asymptotic long-time regime is found to behave as q
3/2τ. We also give a plausible scenario for aging, in terms of a strain-dependent energy barrier for micro-collapses. The relaxation
time is found to grow with the age tw, quasi-exponentially at first, and then as t
w
4/5 with logarithmic corrections.

Spin-coated thin films of about 100nm of low-molecular-weight hydrogenated poly(butadiene-b- ethyleneoxide) (PBh-PEO) diblock copolymers have been crystallized at various constant temperatures. Crystallization has been observed in real
time by light microscopy. Detailed structural information was obtained by atomic force microscopy, mainly enabled by the large
viscoelastic contrast between amorphous and crystalline regions. The behavior in thin films is compared to the bulk properties
of the polymer. Crystallization started from an annealed microphase separated melt where optical microscopy indicated a lamellar
orientation parallel to the substrate. A small difference in the length of the crystallizable block produced significantly
different crystallization behavior, both in the bulk and in thin films. For thin films of the shortest diblock copolymer (45%
PEO content) and for an undercooling larger than about 10 degrees, crystallization created vertically oriented lamellae. These
vertical lamellae could be preferentially aligned over several micrometers when crystallization occurred close to a three-phase
contact line. Annealing at temperatures closer to the melting point or keeping the sample at room temperature for several
months allowed the formation of a lamellar structure parallel to the substrate. A tentative interpretation based on kinetically
caused chain folding and relaxation within the crystalline state, with implications on general aspects of polymer crystallization,
is presented.

We present the results of the current analysis of the partial wave IJ
PC = 00+ + based on the available data for meson spectra ( ππ, KˉK,ηη,η,ππππ). In the framework of the K-matrix approach, the analytical amplitude has been reconstructed in the mass region 280 MeV < < 1900 MeV. The following scalar-isoscalar states are seen: comparatively narrow resonances f
0(980), f
0(1300), f
0(1500), f
0(1750) and the broad state f0(1200-1600). The positions of the amplitude poles (masses and total widths of the resonances) are determined as well as pole
residues (partial widths to meson channels ππ, KˉK,ηη,η,ππππ). The fitted amplitude gives us the positions of the K-matrix poles (bare states) and the values of bare-state couplings to meson channels thus allowing the quark-antiquark nonet
classification of bare states. On the basis of the obtained partial widths to the channels ππ, KˉK,ηη,η, we estimate the quark/gluonium content of f
0(980), f
0(1300), f
0(1500), f
0(1750), f0(1200-1600). For f
0(980), f
0(1300), f
0(1500) and f
0(1750), their partial widths testify the qˉq origin of these mesons though being unable to provide precise evaluation of the possible admixture of the gluonium component
in these resonances. The ratios of the decay coupling constants for the f0(1200-1600) support the idea about the gluonium nature of this broad state.

Assuming that ρ-mesons exist in a quark-gluon plasma at temperatures close to the QCD phase transition, we calculate the
dilepton production rate from q-ˉq annihilation via a ρ-meson state using Vector Meson Dominance. The result is compared to the rates from direct q-ˉq annihilation and from π+-π− annihilation. Furthermore we discuss the suppression of low mass dileptons if the quarks assume an effective mass in the
quark-gluon plasma.

Simulations based on a coupled-channel transport model have been performed to analyze the feasibility to study the in-medium
ω mass exploiting the process γ + A→π0γ + X for C, Ca and Nb nuclei. The distortions due to final-state interactions of the π0 and background contributions from the reaction γ + A→π0π0 + X are found to be small in the mass range of interest ( 0.6 < M
π0γ < 0.8 GeV). Furthermore, the effect of the detector resolution on the π0γ mass determination is discussed.

The Compton scattering on a charged pion and the process γγ→π0π0 are studied using the dispersion relations. Unknown parameters of the S-wave ππ interaction and a sum and a difference of the π0 meson polarizabilities are found from a fit to the experimental data for the γγ→π0π0 process. The found parameters of the ππ interaction are used for the calculation of the cross section of the elastic γπ± scattering. The analysis of the obtained results shows that the experimental data for the elastic γπ± scattering in the energy region up to 1 GeV together with the data for the γγ→π0π0 process could be used both for a determination of the pion polarizability values and for study of the S-wave ππ interaction.

An exotic meson, the π1(1400) with J
PC = 1- +, has been seen to decay into a p-wave ηπ system. If this decay conserves flavor SU(3), then it can be shown that this exotic meson must be a four-quark state ( qˉq + qˉq) belonging to a flavor ˉ10 representation of SU(3). In contrast, the π1(1600) with a substantial decay mode into π is likely to be a member of a flavor octet.

0 these maximum relieved strains are φ0/2, φ0, 3φ0/2 and 2φ0 respectively, at the end of each of stages I–IV. Films relaxed in each stage are characterized by a specific set of macroscopic
crystallographic features that can be observed experimentally, including lattice rotation, lattice tilt, and the presence
of more than one variant in some cases. For example, complete untwisting is predicted for stage IV relaxation, resulting in
the disappearance of the initial twist angle between the two lattices. To relax the elastic misfit strain, extensive plastic
deformation
of the substrate film is involved, thus making it compliant to the hetero-epitaxial film. This thin film substrate may be
called the plastically compliant substrate (PCS).

Differential cross-sections for the reactions d (γ,π0)d and d (γ,π0)pn have been measured at MAMI with the TAPS detector setup in the energy range 140 MeV < E
γ < 306 MeV. By use of the Glasgow tagging spectrometer an 0.8 MeV energy resolution for photons incident on the target was
achieved. The π0 missing energy resolution was sufficient for a reliable separation of coherent and incoherent channels. The data for the
break-up channel exhibit very strong final state interaction effects, whereas the observed angular dependence of the inclusive
process d (γ,π0)X is in quantitative agreement with predictions for a quasi-free process. The observed absolute d (γ,π0)X cross-sections, on the other hand, are significantly smaller than predicted by the quasi-free process for E
γ >∼ 250 MeV. Associating this failure with the π0 photoproduction on the neutron would suggest that its cross-section is up to 25% below the presently believed value.

We present the results of extensive molecular dynamics computer simulations in which the high frequency dynamics of silica,
i.e. for frequencies ν > 0.5 THz, is investigated in the viscous liquid state as well as in the glass state. We characterize the
properties of high frequency sound modes by analyzing J
l(q,ν) and J
t(q,ν), the longitudinal and transverse current correlation function, respectively. For wave-vectors q > 0.4 ?-1 the spectra are sitting on top of a flat background. The dynamic structure factor S(q,ν) exhibits for q > 0.23 ?-1 a boson peak which is located nearly independent of q around 1.7 THz and for which the intensity scales approximately linearly with temperature. We show that the low frequency
part of the boson peak is mainly due to the elastic scattering of transverse acoustic modes with frequencies around 1 THz.
The strength of this scattering depends on q and is largest around q = 1.7 ?-1, the location of the first sharp diffraction peak in the static structure factor. By studying S(q,ν) for different system sizes we show that strong finite size effects are present in the low frequency part of the boson
peak in that for small systems part of its intensity is missing. We discuss the consequences of these finite size effects
for the structural relaxation.

Proton-π0 coincidences have been measured at the beam energy of 180A MeV in the reaction Ar+Ca studied by TAPS at SIS/GSI. In the proton-π0 invariant mass spectrum we observe a significant excess of strength above the background obtained by event mixing. We attribute
this signal to the strength distribution N
Δ of the Δ baryonic resonance. No correlation is observed in the case of deuteron-π0 coincidences. Assuming isotropic emission of π0 and Δ+ from a midrapidity thermal source and isospin symmetry, we determined the global N
Δ/N
πratio of 0.79 ±0.30(stat) ±0.2(syst). This value indicates that most pions produced at subthreshold energy in heavy-ion reaction
are mediated by the Δ-resonance.

Within the conventional QCD sum rules, we calculate the πNN coupling constant, g
πN, beyond the chiral limit using two-point correlation function with a pion. For this purpose, we consider the Dirac structure,
iγ5, at m
π
2 order in the expansion of the correlator in terms of the pion momentum. For a consistent treatment of the sum rule, we include
the linear terms in quark mass as they constitute the same chiral order as m
π
2. In this sum rule, we obtain g
πN= 13.3 ± 1.2, which is very close to the empirical πNN coupling. This demonstrates that going beyond the chiral limit is crucial in determining the coupling.

We calculate target fragmentation in pp→nX and γp→nX reactions in the meson cloud picture of the nucleon. The pp→nX reaction is used to fix the pnπ+ form factor for three different models. We take into account the possible destruction of the residual neutron by the projectile.
Using the form factor from the hadronic reaction we calculate photoproduction and small x
Bj electroproduction of forward neutrons at HERA. Here the qˉq dipoles in the photon can rescatter on the residual neutron. In photoproduction we observe slightly less absorption than
in the hadronic reaction. For deep inelastic events (Q
2 > 10 GeV2) screening is weaker but still present at large Q
2. The signature for this absorptive rescattering is a shift of the dσ/dEn distribution to higher neutron energies for photofragmentation.

We investigate the statics and dynamics of spatial phase segregation process of a mixture of fermion atoms in a harmonic trap
using the density functional theory. The kinetic energy of the fermion gas is written in terms of the density and its gradients.
Several cases have been studied by neglecting the gradient terms (the Thomas-Fermi limit) which are then compared with the
Monte-Carlo results using the full gradient corrected kinetic energy. A linear instability analysis has been performed using
the random-phase approximation. Near the onset of instability, the fastest unstable mode for spinodal decomposition is found
to occur at q = 0. However, in the strong coupling limit, many more modes with q ≈ K
F decay with comparable time scales.
