Abstract

The rate constant for BaP decomposition induced by exposure to UV rays and rate constants for BaP1,6; 3,6; 6,12 diones formation were determined. Experiments were conducted by depositing the BaP on clean glass fiber-filter and on airborne paniculate collected by filter. The BaP half-life appears to be positively correlated with filter loading and airborne particulates protect BaP from UV degradation. Our results suggest that BaP1,6dione, BaP3,6dione, BaP6,12dione are not the main by-products of BaP photodegradation induced by UV.  相似文献

Results of chemical kinetics modeling in methane subjected to the microwave plasma at atmospheric pressure are presented in this paper. The reaction mechanism is based on the methane oxidation model without reactions involving nitrogen and oxygen. For the numerical calculations 0D and 1D models were created. 0D model uses Calorimetric Bomb Reactor whereas 1D model is constructed either as Plug Flow Reactor or as a chain of Plug Flow Reactor and Calorimetric Bomb Reactor. Both models explain experimental results and show the most important reactions responsible for the methane conversion and production of H2, C2H2, C2H4 and C2H6 detected in the experiment. Main conclusion is that the chemical reactions in our experiment proceed by a thermal process and the products can be defined by considering thermodynamic equilibrium. Temperature characterizing the methane pyrolysis is 1,500–2,000 K, but plasma temperature is in the range of 4,000–5,700 K, which means that methane pyrolysis process is occurring outside the plasma region in the swirl gas flowing around the plasma.  相似文献

Despite the extensive research into the catalytic uses of zeolite-based catalysts, these catalysts have a limited useful lifetime because of the deactivating effect of coke production. This study looks at the use of Cerium (Ce) loaded HZSM-5 zeolite catalysts in the hydrocarbon and oxygenated chemical conversion from Chlorella Vulgaris microalgae crude oil. Characterization of structure, morphology, and crystallinity was performed after the catalysts were manufactured using the impregnation technique. Soxhlet extraction was carried out to extract the crude oil of microalgae. Transesterification reaction was used to produce algal hydrolyzed oil (HO), and the resulting HO was put to use in a batch reactor at 300 °C, 1000 rpm, 7 bars of nitrogen pressure, a catalyst to the algal HO ratio of 15% (wt. %), and a retention time of 6 h. To determine which Ce-loaded HZSM-5 catalysts would be most effective in converting algal HO into non-oxygenated molecules (hydrocarbons), we conducted a series of tests. Liquid product characteristics were analyzed for elemental composition, higher heating value (HHV), atomic ratios of O/C and H/C, and degree of deoxygenation (DOD%). Results were categorized into three groups: product yield, chemical composition, and carbon number distribution. When Cerium was added to HZSM-5 zeolite at varying loading percentages, the zeolite’s acid sites became more effective in facilitating the algal HO conversion. The results showed that 10%Ce/HZSM-5 had the greatest conversion of the algal HO, the yield of hydrocarbons, HHV, and DOD% (98.2%, 30%, 34.05 MJ/Kg, and 51.44%, respectively) among all the synthesized catalysts in this research. In conclusion, the physical changes seen in the textural characteristics may be attributed to Cerium-loading on the parent HZSM-5; nevertheless, there is no direct association between the physical features and the hydrocarbons yield (%). The primary impact of Cerium alteration of the parent HZSM-5 zeolite was to change the acidic sites required to boost the conversion (%) of the algal HO in the catalytic deoxygenation process, which in turn increased the hydrocarbons yield (%), which in turn increased the HHV and DOD%.  相似文献

Germacranolides, secondary metabolites produced by plants, have garnered academic and industrial interest due to their diverse and complex topology as well as a wide array of pharmacological activities. Molephantin, a highly oxygenated germacranolide isolated from medicinal plants, Elephantopus mollis and Elephantopus tomentosus, has exhibited antitumor, inflammatory, and leishmanicidal activities. Its chemical structure is based on a highly strained ten-membered macrocyclic backbone with an (E,Z)-dienone moiety, which is fused with an α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone and adorned with four successive stereogenic centers. Herein, we report the first synthesis of molephantin in 12 steps starting from readily available building blocks. The synthesis features the highly diastereoselective intermolecular Barbier allylation of the β,γ-unsaturated aldehyde with optically active 3-bromomethyl-5H-furan-2-one intermediate and ensuing Nozaki–Hiyama–Kishi (NHK) macrocyclization for the construction of the highly oxygenated ten-membered macrocyclic framework. This synthetic route enabled access to another germacranolide congener, tomenphantopin F. Furthermore, cycloisomerization of molephantin into 2-deethoxy-2β-hydroxyphantomolin could be facilitated by irradiation with ultraviolet A light (λmax=370 nm), which opened a versatile and concise access to the related furanogermacranolides such as EM-2, phantomolin, 2-O-demethyltomenphantopin C, and tomenphantopin C.  相似文献

Arsenic (As)-laden wastewater may pose a threat to biodiversity when released into soil and water bodies without treatment. The current study investigated the sorption properties of both As(III, V) oxyanions onto iron hydroxide (FHO) by chemical coagulation. The potential mechanisms were identified using the adsorption models, ζ-potential, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FT-IR) analysis. The results indicate that the sorption kinetics of pentavalent and trivalent As species closely followed the pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption rates of both toxicants were remarkably governed by pH as well as the quantity of FHO in suspension. Notably, the FHO formation was directly related to the amount of ferric chloride (FC) coagulant added in the solution. The sorption isotherm results show a better maximum sorption capacity for pentavalent As ions than trivalent species, with the same amount of FHO in the suspensions. The thermodynamic study suggests that the sorption process was spontaneously exothermic with increased randomness. The ζ-potential, FT-IR and XRD analyses confirm that a strong Fe-O bond with As(V) and the closeness of the surface potential of the bonded complex to the point of zero charge (pHzpc) resulted in the higher adsorption affinity of pentavalent As species than trivalent ions in most aquatic conditions. Moreover, the presence of sulfates, phosphates, and humic and salicylic acid significantly affected the As(III, V) sorption performance by altering the surface properties of Fe precipitates. The combined effect of charge neutralization, complexation, oxidation and multilayer chemisorption was identified as a major removal mechanism. These findings may provide some understanding regarding the fate, transport and adsorption properties onto FHO of As oxyanions in a complex water environment.  相似文献

When protein in various liquids containing aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene, naphthalene, and phenanthrene, is irradiated by γ-rays from a 60Co source the changes in the internal relationships of the atoms in the protein molecule vary with the irradiation liquids containing aromatic hydrocarbons. An empirical equation for the optical rotation was obtained, and the phenomena were explained on the basis of the molecular mechanism. Protein irradiated by γ-rays from a 60Co source in air showed the effect of pH on the changes in the internal relationships of the atoms in the protein molecule. In the current study, eco-structured and efficient removal of the veterinary fluoroquinolone antibiotic sarafloxacin (SARA) from wastewater has been explored. The adsorptive power of four agro-wastes (AWs) derived from pistachio nutshells (PNS) and Aloe vera leaves (AV) as well as the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) has been assessed. Adsorbent derived from raw pistachio nutshells (RPNS) was the most efficient among the four tested AWs (%removal ‘%R’ = 82.39%), while MWCNTs showed the best adsorptive power amongst the five adsorbents (%R = 96.20%). Plackett-Burman design (PBD) was used to optimize the adsorption process. Two responses (‘%R’ and adsorption capacity ‘qe’) were optimized as a function of four variables (pH, adsorbent dose ‘AD’ (dose of RPNS and MWCNTs), adsorbate concentration [SARA] and contact time ‘CT’). The effect of pH was similar for both RPNS and MWCNTs. Morphological and textural characterization of the tested adsorbents was carried out using FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM and BET analyses. Conversion of waste-derived materials into carbonaceous material was investigated by Raman spectroscopy. Equilibrium studies showed that Freundlich isotherm is the most suitable isotherm to describe the adsorption of SARA onto RPNS. Kinetics’ investigation shows that the adsorption of SARA onto RPNS follows a pseudo-second order (PSO) model.  相似文献

Uptake and release processes of various fluorescent rhodamine dyes and antitumor drugs to/from an ordered mesoporous silica film are investigated by means of UV/Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies. The pores in the 160 nm‐thick silica film strongly withdraw the dyes from water, thus allowing the storage of several micrograms of guest molecules per square centimeter of film. The binding equilibrium of the dyes follows a Langmuir‐type adsorption. The dissociation constant, Kd, and the maximum binding amount to the film, , are determined by fitting the binding curves. The release kinetics of the guests from the film to a simulated body fluid (SBF) solution follows a bimodal first‐order exponential behavior. The release kinetics from the mesoporous thin film is remarkably retarded relative to that from mesoporous powders. Among all the studied dyes, rhodamine 101 is released most slowly, which implies that the release rate depends not only on the interactions between the guests and the silica surface, but also on intermolecular interactions between the guest molecules. Comparison of the release kinetics of different antitumor drugs, such as actinomycin D and mitoxantrone, into an SBF solution shows that mitoxantrone is released much slowly. This slower release is attributed to the positive molecular charge and the formation of dimers in the pores.  相似文献

This paper presents an unstructured laboratory in which students determine the rate law for a reaction. We have selected for this investigation the reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid. The general goal of the proposal is threefold: (1) to increase students interest in science during first-year chemistry; (2) to create a more active learning environment where students can learn and do science as scientists; and (3) to develop and promote critical thinking, analytical reasoning, collaboration, and interactive discussion based on a scientific problem. This laboratory has proven to be effective because the students, with some guidance from the instructor, were able to (1) state one or more hypotheses related to the problem under study (chemical kinetics); (2) design procedures and strategies to answer specific questions; and (3) establish methods to manipulate and interpret the data. Finally, the students were required to write a report. In this way, the laboratory promotes creativity and improves students critical thinking in an introductory course of university general chemistry.  相似文献
